The best yachts of 2018? These are the 5 European Yacht of the Year 2018 winners
- Toby Hodges
- January 20, 2018
If you want to know which are the best new production yachts on the market at the moment, the European Yacht of the Year is the best place to start. Toby Hodges sailed the 15 nominees and gives his verdict on the five winners
European Yacht of the Year 2018 Winners
What is the yacht of the year, or the best yachts to look out for in 2018? Which are the most interesting, entertaining, innovative, well built and best value for money yachts on the market?
The reason we can answer such questions with confidence is that, as well as conducting our own independent tests, Yachting World also sits on the panel of judges for the European Yacht of the Year awards. This involves shortlisting the best annual prospects into five categories before testing them all to elect the winners.
Take a look at last year’s winners here and the European Yacht of the Year 2016 here
Now in its 15th year, the European Yacht of the Year is the most thorough and unbiased awards programme for new production yachts. All 12 judges, comprising the boat testers and editors from sailing magazines across Europe, tested all the nominated yachts in La Rochelle and Barcelona last autumn.
The five 2018 European Yacht of the Year winners were announced on the first evening of the Dusseldorf Boatshow, on 20 January. Look out for our March 2018 issue, which has a feature combining our reviews on all the winners in more detail.
FAMILY CRUISER
Nominees: Beneteau Oceanis 51, Hanse 548, Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440
Winner: Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440
Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 European Yacht of the Year 2018
Credit to the large-scale production yards for the innovation going into their latest models. Nevertheless, the new Jeanneau Sun Odyssey range is hands-down the most impressive for its forward thinking in terms of hull shape, cockpit design and interior layout.
The realisation of the volume gained from a full bow is shrewd, while the sloping side decks that make for a walkaround cockpit is one of those game-changing ideas that you can expect to see copied by others in the future.
Price ex VAT: €184,400
See our full test of the very similar larger sister, the SO490 in the October 2017 issue.
LUXURY CRUISER
Nominees: Amel 50, Hallberg-Rassy 44, Ice 60
Winner: Amel 50
Amel 50 European Yacht of the Year 2018
That this is such a popular new model is unsurprising. It is both a manageable size of yacht for a couple to handle and a lot of exceedingly comfortable and quality built boat for the price. It is a modern-looking design that sails surprisingly well from a yard with decades of experience with building bluewater cruisers
This is a yacht that could appeal to those seeking luxury weekend cruising as well as those wanting to live aboard and sail long-distance. It’s a yacht to dream about sailing away on and one that may well hasten your sabbatical or retirement from work.
Look out for our full test on the Amel 50, following a two day seatrial, in our April 2018 issue.
Price ex VAT: €750,000
PERFORMANCE CRUISER
Nominees: ClubSwan 50, Grand Soleil Performance 34, JPK 45
Winner: ClubSwan 50
European Yacht of the Year 2018 Seatrials in Port Ginesta Castellfels
The ClubSwan 50 is the most extreme-looking production yacht to date and one with versatile appeal as its design strikes that balance between performance cruiser and grand-prix racing yacht.
See our full test report here
Its race yacht side is paired with an international circuit for owners to enjoy strictly controlled one-design competition. It’s a deliciously appealing plaything for short cruises and day sailing as well. Above all, it is outrageously, award-winningly cool.
ClubSwan 50 European Yacht of the Year 2018
This is perhaps just the start… with news that two new Juan K-designed 100ft+ ClubSwan models are on the drawing board, Nautor’s Swan is entering a new era of luxurious race craft.
Price ex VAT: €1.1m
SPECIAL YACHT
Nominees: Beneteau Figaro 3, Flaar M37, TF10 Trimaran
Winner: Beneteau Figaro 3
Beneteau Figaro 3 European Yacht of the Year 20182017/2018
This startling VPLP design looks half modern offshore race boat, half crazed contraption from a Star Wars film. Learn more about the design here – plus expert sailors’ reactions to it
Reliability will be key to the Figaro 3’s success – Beneteau’s first two Figaro models have proved almost invincible and have done more miles than any Vendée Globe yachts.
But all credit to Beneteau for not playing too safe this time. The modern hull shape, stiff build technique, deck layout and, of course, eye-catching foils are the result of contemporary thinking.
Beneteau Figaro 3 European Yacht of the Year 2018
This is an offshore one-design sportsboat with global appeal. Time will tell whether the foils are more gimmick than game-changer, but I was impressed with how well the boat is set-up for solo and short-handed racing.
Price ex VAT: €149,404
Nominees: Fountaine Pajot Saona 47, Leopard 45, Neel 51
Winner: Neel 51
Neel 51 European Yacht of the Year 2018
First reactions to the Neel 51 are fairly consistent : your jaw drops at the sheer size of the boat (in terms of height, beam and particularly volume) – then you sail it and are even more surprised at how slippery it is.
Here is a yacht that genuinely has the potential to shock. The Neel 51 offers the space of a cruising cat of similar length (and for the same price), yet will easily outperform it under sail and, crucially, provide a rewarding helming experience.
The vast cockpit and adjoining saloon on the Neel 51, European Yacht of the Year 2018
With this model Neel may well show that trimarans are not only for tearing up ocean speed records but could be the way to go for multihull cruisers too.

Yachts of the Year: 2018’s Biggest & Best
By Rose-Hannah Lishman
Now 2018 is nearly a distant memory, we’re taking a look back at the year in retrospect. With 9 launches entering the Top 100 (our forecast of the largest yachts in the world) in just 12 short months, the bar was set high for any yacht hitting the water. To celebrate the success of all those involved in the build process of each masterpiece, we’re taking a look at the yachts of the year for 2018.
The Biggest With the Top 100 forecast from back in January causing much excitement and anticipation, it was only a matter of time before the latest and largest began to exit the yard and enter the water in all their gigantic splendour.
None other than Lurssen lead the way with the official launch of 136m SHU ; the largest launch of the year, entering into the Top 100 at number 15. Unsurprisingly, Lurssen also launched a second superyacht - 111m TIS - which entered the ranks at an impressive number 33 and marked the dominating success of the largest yachts market by the German builders.
Further superyachts in this category came from additional yards known for their pedigree. Two from Oceanco; 90m DAR and 109m BRAVO (which entered in positions 79 and 39 respectively) and three form Feadship; 110m ANNA , 93m LADY S and 87m LONION which took slots 34, 60 and 87. Each in a build-class of it’s own, it has been another year in the Netherlands.
There were also some unexpected entries into 2018’s listings with Pride Mega Yachts delivering the largest Asian yacht to ever be built, 79m ILLUSION PLUS which entered our Top 100 as a respectable position 77.
The Rest Nearly missing out on a Top 100 spot by just a few centimetres was another surprising yet remarkable launch from Golden Yachts. At 84.5m, O’PTASIA graced Greece’s coastline, marking a great milestone for the Greek shipyard; their largest yet.
Following suit in the European build class, M/Y SOLO built by Tankoa launched back in August, bringing another example of fantastic Italian build flair to the water. At 71m she made her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September and picked up the RINA Award for the most eco-friendly superyacht.
Nevertheless, it was only a matter of time until Abeking & Rasmussen launched another showstopper and this year was no exception. Launched in May and admired by many as the stand-out superyacht of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, 74m ELANDASS follows the likes of AVIVA and into the shipyard’s impressive portfolio.
Last but by no means least is a superyacht that the industry had been patiently waiting for. When experienced owner John Staluppi commissioned Benetti to build his next vessel, it was clear this would be an unforgettable launch and bond-themed SPECTRE did not disappoint. At 69m in length, she took over 750,000 working hours to build and is sure to mark the close of a year in superyacht launches that won’t be forgotten.

TOP 5 Yachts of 2018
By Lisa Overing January 24, 2019
While the task to name only five 'Top' yachts of the year, Maritime Reporter & Engineering News' Lisa Overing gives it her best shot in the January 2019 edition.
M/Y TIS: “Size Matters” The age-old question of whether or not size matters is typically directed at men. However, since a ship is called she, Maritime Reporter’s top spot for greatest yacht of 2018 is the class of 2018’s largest launch, M/Y TIS, a 111-meter, six-deck superyacht by Lürssen with exterior styling and interior design by Winch Design.
In spite of her massive size, steel-hulled TIS is sleek, graceful and well proportioned, a testament to her long and well-balanced sheer line. She boasts tremendous volume with her beam at 16.85 meters.
Intriguing combinations of fluid, motion-oriented curvilinear architecture span her striking blue hull with a white boot stripe, achieving a dynamic but symmetrical profile with dozens of rectilinear windows and the straight deck lines.
With expansive interior and exterior areas onboard and generous ceiling height, TIS is ideal for entertaining in luxury. Featuring a massive, private owner’s deck, she accommodates 22 guests in 11 luxurious staterooms. Standout features include not one but two helicopter pads, a 12-meter swimming pool, a resort-inspired spa aft, and a magnificent, sweeping double staircase normally reserved for a palace at her transom, creating a grand entrance onboard.
Her tender garage accommodates two 13-meter tenders and two 10-meter tenders, plus a submarine and a fleet of other water toys. Dubbed Project Palo Alto during her build, Moran Yacht & Ship’s new construction team wrote the technical specifications for this sophisticated superyacht, negotiated the build contract and managed the complete construction of the vessel in Germany from concept through her delivery at the end of this year. She was launched only 11 months after her keel-laying.
With modern exterior styling by Luiz DeBasto, her profile is long, sporty and lean. DAR reflects the latest advances in glass technology with her superstructure completely finished in reflective glass. The upper deck salon yields panoramic floor-to-ceiling views port and starboard. The sophisticated interior by Nuvolari Lenard accommodates 14 guests and 31 crew.
A dedicated to owners deck was designed with privacy in mind. The owners’ private balconies offer a cozy indoor/outdoor living feature as well as incredible views. The owner’s deck also includes a private, forward-facing Jacuzzi.
During the build period, DAR was dubbed Project Shark because the aerial view of her wing stations resembles a hammerhead shark. The mast in profile is shaped like a fin, contrasting with the flowing rhythm of the hull.
“The profile has a unique sense of contrast and homogeneity between the dark glass and the white balconies, providing a constant exchange in shape and lines between the two elements,” said Luiz DeBasto.
The prevailing theme on DAR is nature, with blossom cascades, feathers, fish and waves expressed by tasteful combination of details and finishes.
The interior woods include different shades of sycamore fiddleback, small details in tinted Brazilian carballo wood and maple bleached gray. Other accents include bas-reliefs; metallic surfaces and 3D-cut leather panels.
She is the first yacht built in the Netherlands to achieve the official Lloyd’s Register Integrated Bridge System (IBS) notation and designation
With a beam of 15.4 meters and a draft of 4 meters, Illusion Plus has a unique plumb bow, steel hull and aluminum superstructure with a six deck arrangement.
With an intended build time of 3.5 years, she was conceived in 2007 on the precipice of the recession by Timothy Saunders and his team, then partner of Rainsford Saunders Design. The interior design was ultimately completed by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design.
Saunders’ industrial and automotive design background is evident in her exterior styling and propulsion, fitted with a powerful, cutting edge Diesel Electric Rolls Royce power plant and Azipull Pod Drives.
“This hybrid vessel is capable of great speed, efficiency and accurate maneuvering - not to mention a DP0 Dynamic Positioning System - all of which may be precisely controlled at the touch of a joystick” said Saunders.
Some 11 years after developing her original lines, Saunders is pleased to see his creation launched as an iconic, timeless megayacht. Illusion Plus is listed for sale, asking $145 million. M/Y Spectre: “Ode to 007” Consummate yacht owners John and Jeannette Staluppi named their latest superyacht Spectre after yet another James Bond spy film, just as their 18 other superyachts were monikered, including Benetti’s Quantum of Solace and Diamonds Are Forever. M/Y Spectre exudes sportiness as a 69-meter superyacht with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure arranged on five decks. Benetti’s interior design is reminiscent of a French, art deco theme. The sole in the main saloon resembles Liberty-style flooring in a Paris resort, with symmetrical forms and clean-cut geometrical patterns enriched with Armani fabrics and modern touches. Dark woodwork, sideboards and closets, with glass mirrors, white marble and white leather matching the deckheads for a strikingly, elegant contrast. Featuring a swimming pool and a touch and go helipad, Spectre accommodates 12 guests in unparalleled comfort. The layout features two owner’s cabins - one with a private terrace, a sun lounging area and hydromassage tub. The epitome of ultimate luxury, Spectre features a swimming pool, touch and go helipad, elevator to all decks, beach club, spa and gym. Giorgio M. Cassetta designed the flowing, contemporary exterior contours with a long bow and extended superstructure. The lines of the Hi Speed Cruising Hull by Mulder Design deliver maximum navigational efficiency, with a range of 6,500 nautical miles at 12 knots and a top speed of 21.2 knots, 30-percent more than a traditional displacement hull with an anticipated 30-percent lower fuel burn on crossings. Mulder fitted Spectre with the new Ride Control technology by Naiad Dynamics, significantly increasing stability during navigation and comfort on board with the help of four stabilizing fins and three vertically-adjustable blades. Spectre is listed for sale at $73.9m.

2018 Yacht Preview: The Best Yachts and Yacht Concepts
We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. There is simply no greater status symbol purchase than a massive vessel perfect for you and a few dozen friends to explore the most beautiful and exotic parts of the globe. So for those in this elite club (or those ready and eager to join), we have prepared a prime selection of the most exceptional yachts for sale and yacht concepts for 2018. Fresh from the big boat shows (Fort Lauderdale, Monaco), here are our most illustrious finds.
Sinot: Nature
Pushing Boundaries of Contemporary Yacht Design
Unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show in September, the 120-meter (394-foot) Nature is one of the most striking boat concepts we have ever seen. As the name might imply, the design works to seamlessly blend natural elements like abundant wood and an onboard garden with modern, geometrical design touches. Everything about Nature is designed to feel organic and harmonious with the environment, and the result is something that feels like the perfect synthesis of nature and design. If built, it has the potential to be one of the greatest superyachts on earth.
“The name of the yacht has duality in purpose,” says superyacht designer and Sinot founder, Sander Sinot. The entire vessel is designed to use as much natural light as possible, and at the bow of the ship, you’ll find an upper deck observatory with floor-to-ceiling windows that give an almost “infinity pool” effect, blurring the lines between where the vessel meets the water. Nature features eight luxurious state and VIP suites, a complete spa deck, massive sea-level swimming pool, and observatory. The aforementioned garden is climate controlled, while the master suite is connected by a circular staircase to a private, 9,688-square-foot, panoramic deck.
Heesen Yachts: Home
50-meter FDHF Hybrid
This 48.8-meter hybrid yacht was one of the standouts from the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show where it debuted in October. Italian designer Cristiano Gatto personalized the interiors of this all-aluminum beauty to have an extremely modern and stylish feel. This is reflected in the linear styling, glass-sided veranda, use of matte finishes, and freestanding Paola Lenti furniture. Home accommodates up to 12 guests in six staterooms and implements two main engines and a diesel-electric propulsion system.
Dynamiq: GTT 115
Forward Thinking Design by Studio Porsche
When Porsche designs a yacht, you know it’s going to be special. Upon its debut in Monaco, Dynamiq CEO Sergei Dobroserdov hailed the 35-meter GTT 115 as “the culmination of a long process of design and development to introduce a new kind of superyacht to the market.” The GTT 115 certainly looks like no yacht we’ve ever seen. With its sleek design, lavish interior, and all-aluminum frame, it apparently takes its styling cues from the iconic sports car brand.
Lürssen: TV
Sophisticated Design & Engineering
Although technically not “new” — it was built in ’08 and was a finalist at the ’09 World Superyacht Awards — the 78.4-meter TV is currently on the market and was the biggest yacht on display at the FLIBS. We’ve always been in love with this behemoth, as its Alberto Pinto interior is stunning, its design is borderline brilliant, and it has ample room for 16 guests in nine staterooms plus 25 crew members. TV was practically made to throw epic celebrations.
MESD 100 : Superyacht Concept
By Norwegian Yacht Designer Marius Skjolde
Another concept? We just couldn’t resist including this 100-meter vision from Norwegian designer Marius Skjolde. Everything about this baby screams “dream yacht.” It has an elegant profile, stately appearance, and ingenious design. On the upper deck, you’ll find a panoramic overhang with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the main aft deck and beach club below. It offers several individual social areas with a bar, sea-view lounges, a fully equipped gym, spa, sauna, and more. Someone, please build this.
Arcadia Sherpa: Panta Rei III
Haute Couture Inside & Out
The 60-foot Sherpa is one of the most elegant and efficient small yachts around. Already renowned for its intelligent and beautiful space-saving design, Arcadia’s smallest yacht recently received a one-of-a-kind makeover. At the behest of its owner, the Arcadia spent over two months meticulously recreating the aesthetics of a “silver sand” Rolls-Royce to make the Panta Rei III , unlike anything we’ve seen before, with hull paint laboriously engineered to both precisely match that from Rolls and withstand nautical travel.
Baglietto 43m: FAST
An Iconic Model Restyled
Baglietto recently restyled their iconic 43-meter yacht, and the results are spectacular. With sleek, streamlined lines, oversized windows, two terraces, and a beach club, it offers both style and functionality in a compact package. She sleeps 12 guests – all below deck — in five cabins including a spacious master suite. Interiors are both lavish and contemporary with beige and brown tones and stylish modern furnishings. The FAST also lives up to her name, with a very formidable cruising speed of 28 knots.
Ferretti Group: Custom Line 120
High Standards in Contemporary Concepts
The latest superyacht from the Italian yard makes landfall in the form of the Custom Line 120 , a 38.36-meter bespoke vessel developed with the help of renowned designer Francesco Paszkowski. A reimagining of life at sea, the Custom Line 120 caters to any individual yacht owner’s desires while applying many of today’s modern architectural elements to complete its sleek appearance and innovative hull structure. Stunning design with ample room for hosting makes the Custom Line 120 one yacht you’ll definitely want docked at your slip.

Boat of the Year 2018
From an eclectic fleet of 22 boats, the 2018 Boat of the Year contest produced a roster of eight winners in dedicated size- and purpose-related categories.
There were big boats (the Oyster 745) and small boats (the Malbec 18) and everything in between. Now in its 23rd year of competition, this latest edition of our annual Boat of the Year contest had a little something for everyone. It was also a year that defied easy categorization. In fact, in the entire history of the event, it may well have been our most eclectic fleet ever.
Continuing a trend that has been on the rise in recent years, the lion’s share of entries were from overseas, with boats from China, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain and even Slovenia among the nominees. And there was a handful of U.S. entrants as well, including the aforementioned Malbec, a pocket monohull, and a pair of catamarans, the Maine Cat 38 and the Stiletto Xc.
Overall, however, there were fewer cats in the 2018 field, just a year after half of the overall entry list sported two hulls. But what they lacked in quantity was offset by the quality of the nominees, which included two otherworldly cats from China, the Morrelli & Melvin-designed HH 55 and HH 66; the wholesome Fountaine Pajot Saona 47; and the two U.S. boats previously noted.
The big production builders were aptly represented. Jeanneau led the pack with two offerings: a 51-footer that was an extension of its line and the truly innovative Sun Odyssey 440, with a deck layout that just may be revolutionary. Beneteau’s Oceanis 51 was a natural rival to the bigger Jeanneau, as was yet a third boat built in France, the Dufour 520. A slightly larger entrant came from Germany: the impressive Hanse 588.
There were lots of dedicated cruising boats, particularly in the midsize range. These included the rugged Hallberg-Rassy 412, from the Swedish builder that consistently enters a leading contender. The Elan GT5, from the Slovenian builder that’s making continuous strides in the U.S. marketplace, also scored high marks from the independent judging team. So too did a pair of metal boats from France, the Allures 45.9 and the Boreal 47, both of which drew big crowds at the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, where they made their debuts.
The full-size class was particularly stacked, and represented the most competitive division in the entire field. Along with the Hanse already mentioned, the roster included the Discovery 58 and the Southerly 540, both from England; the Moody 54 DS, now built in Germany under the Hanse umbrella; and the Swan 54, from the highly regarded Finnish yard.
As always, the judging consisted of separate dockside inspections and sea trials, and took place during and after the U.S. Sailboat Show last fall. Over the next 14 pages, we’ll delve deep into the individual classes, announce the winners and list what separated them from their competition. Then, on pages 84 and 85, you’ll find specs and stats on the entire fleet, contact information for the respective manufacturers, judges’ credentials and more.
Like every Boat of the Year competition, the 2018 edition took on a life of its own. And while the fleet defied easy characterizations, when all was said and done, a worthy group of winners emerged that represented a diverse collection of well-found cruising boats. Check them out below.

2018 Boat of The Year Finalists
- By Boating Staff
- Updated: November 13, 2018
In the same way that the MLB MVP selection process cannot directly compare pitchers and catchers and that the MPAA cannot compare best picture candidates in comedy to those in drama, Boating cannot directly compare watersports boats to offshore fishing boats, or cruising boats to performance boats. The very attributes that make a boat great in one category make it less desirable in other categories. Therefore, we look at the boats that excel in their category. Then it’s a matter of deciding which ones excelled in their respective category more than another candidate excelled in its respective category.
Here are the Boating 2018 Boat of the Year finalists. Look for the Boat of the Year to be announced next month.
Invincible 40 Cat Fishing catamarans are enjoying a resurgence, and this one is leading the pack for a number of reasons. One of these is the asymmetrical design of its hulls, which delivers remarkable efficiency, a super-smooth ride, and a comforting inboard lean during turns (many cats lean outboard). Finish and outfitting proved as good as it gets, with the Invincible 40 delivering a refined boating experience, whether discussing the ergonomic helm layout, the details of rocket-launcher angles, seating comfort, or the way a hatch opens, closes and latches.
Jeanneau NC 1095 The nomination could be justified by the fact that this is the only 35-foot cruiser with the option for three private staterooms (counting the convertible dinette topside, it will sleep eight). But really, it’s the asymmetrical side decks that sealed the deal. By offsetting the deckhouse to port, the starboard side deck is twice as wide, providing super-secure access from bow to stern. This feature also allowed for another wow: a door at the helm leading to the side deck. Docking solo is so much easier when the skipper has immediate access to the side, but few small boats offer this convenience.
Malibu M235 The Malibu M235 is king of the hill in the ultra-competitive world of high-end wakeboats. We know, because we team up with the pros at Wakeboarding (the biggest, most connected media outlet in watersports) to cover tow boats. To create this beast, Malibu left no stone unturned, which means there are bells and whistles galore. Even better, the M235 delivers some of the best wakeboard wakes and wakesurf waves in the market, period. Thanks to Malibu’s exclusive hull design and innovative wake-shaping technologies, these wakes are all easily customizable. Add everything together and it’s easy to see why the M235 leads the watersports pack.
Tiara Sport 38 LS High-performing, luxury center-console dayboats are where much of the recreational boating community’s desire and the industry’s resources are being directed. Tiara Sport leads the pack with its 38 LS thanks to innovations like rotating cockpit seating, which are not intended to solely amaze — though, these do amaze — but to further the mission of providing a boat as useful at sea as at the dock or cove. Coupled to Tiara Sport’s construction values, which exceed that of all standards bodies, it’s easy to see why this boat is a Boat of the Year candidate.
Yamaha FSH 210 A jet boat that one can safely navigate outside the inlet but doesn’t cost two college educations were the initial elements that helped this boat make the short list. Others include a list of standard features that help this boat fulfill myriad boating tasks: The FSH 210 can fish, party or partake in watersports with equal ease. Check out its wide-open transom design for a unique idea that is sure to be copied.

8 of the biggest yachts at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show
- Length: 90m
- Shipyard: Oceanco
- Exterior/interior design: De Basto Designs / Nuvolari Lenard
Sometimes in yacht design, initial concepts can appear futuristic, as Luiz de Basto says his probably did for this 90m Oceanco . But then technology and engineering realities dial down the extremes. In this case, though, the dream has become an extraordinary reality. DAR features the latest advances in glass technology – the superstructure is completely finished in reflective glass, which is offset with white balconies for a distinctive contrast, “providing a constant exchange in shape and lines between the two elements”, says De Basto. Just as exciting is the nature-themed interior by Nuvolari Lenard.

- Length: 72m
- Shipyard: Tankoa
- Exterior/interior design: Francesco Paszkowski Design / Francesco Paszkowski, Margherita Casprini
Freshly launched this month, Tankoa's Solo has certainly made a splash. You name it, this yacht’s got it: massage room, hair dressing area, sauna, gym, 6m pool – she even has a baby grand piano and fireplace. From the spacious beach club to the main-deck guest accommodation and the private owner’s deck with direct helipad access, the optimised-for-charter yacht is packed with fun features.
- Length: 77m
- Shipyard: Turquoise Yachts
- Exterior/interior design: H2 Yacht Design
The Turquoise flagship GO has room for more, accommodating 18 guests, including on the owner’s deck, which features a forward-facing cabin overlooking the sea and a private spa pool on deck. Getting around the massive yacht is easy, with a full-size lift running from the central tender garage all the way to the sundeck, which boasts a 5m pool with waterfall. The beach club is also impressive, opening to the sea on two sides.
- Length: 63.7m
- Shipyard: Codecasa
- Exterior/interior design: Vincenzo Ruggiero
Built by Codecasa to a design by Vincenzo Ruggiero and delivered in 1990, Sokar is still regarded as one of the most outstanding superyachts of her era. Accommodation is for up to 18 guests across a master suite and eight double staterooms, all with en suite bathrooms. Sokar is currently for sale for €17,900,000.
- Length: 95.2m
- Shipyard: Lurssen
- Exterior/ interior design: Espen Øino / Reymond Langton Design
Kismet’s recent jaunt around the tabloid pages as the charter yacht of choice for A-listers Beyonce and Jay-Z has made this legendary yacht even more recognisable. But she doesn’t come cheap. One week aboard this yacht, which counts a multi-level swimming pool, basketball court and helipad among its star features, will set you back £1.1 million. Owned by US billionaire and Fulham football club owner Shadid Khan, the Lurssen yacht took a win in the 2015 World Superyacht Awards and features dramatic interior design by Reymond Langton who created a unique colour scheme for each guest suite.
- Length: 74.5m
- Shipyard: Abeking & Rasmussen
- Exterior/interior design: Harrison Eidsgaard
Returning to the German shipyard for their second yacht, Elandess ’s owners asked designer Peder Eidsgaard for a modern and spacious yacht with large lounging areas suitable for both family time and entertaining. This translated into an open-plan interior with flexible living spaces between floor-to-ceiling windows, as well as innovative communal spaces – from the Nemo lounge below the waterline to the vast sundeck up top with huge 8m pool.
Excellence V
- Length: 61m
- Shipyard: Abeking and Rasmussen
- Exterior/ interior design: Reymond Langton
Currently on sale for €75,000,000, Excellence V offers sumptuous accommodation for up to 14 guests across seven cabins. - Length: 67m
- Shipyard: Feadship
- Exterior/ interior design: Michael Leach
With exterior styling and interior design by Michael Leach , the 67 metre motor yacht Anna I was built in steel and aluminium by Dutch yard Feadship to Lloyd's class and MCA coded with delivery in 2007. By Rebecca Bradbury 27 September 2018
As the second day of the Monaco Yacht Show 2018 gets underway, we take a look at the standout moments from the first 24 hours of the prestigious yachting event.
Eagerly awaited superyacht launches, sightings of iconic yachts at anchor and exciting reveals from the world’s best shipyards ensured day one of the Monaco Yacht Show got off to a spectacular start.
YachtCharterFleet was on the ground in Monaco to catch all the action on camera and report back on the main highlights of the show so far...
As always, the star attraction was the world-class fleet of 121 superyachts lined up in Port Hercules. The most excitement, however, was reserved for the unveiling of around 40 brand new vessels.
Creating the biggest buzz on the boardwalks were the following debutants: the 90m/295ft superyacht DAR , the 88m/291ft superyacht ‘Illusion Plus and 72m/236ft charter yacht SOLO .
Port Hercules was certainly a hive of activity both on and off the water. Even the 68m/223ft charter yacht ‘Triple Seven’ was seen making her way out of the busy port as shown in one of the images above. Not an easy task, as you will see from our photos. The Port was rife with tenders and RIBs transporting show-goers across the marina.
Among the berthed superyachts standing out was Oceanco’s newly launched 77m/253ft superyacht GO . There was no missing her turquoise hull, which matched that of her custom limousine tender.
Photos also capture a number of yachts from an up-close perspective, including the 76m/248ft charter yacht BOADICEA . Check out her spacious beach club in the images above.
A number of high-profile superyachts at anchor off the coast of Monaco were also attracting attention. These included the 110m/361ft superyacht JUBILEE from Oceanco, the 85m/279ft Lurssen superyacht ACE and Perini Navi’s 88m/289ft charter yacht ‘Maltese Falcon’ .

Back on land, shipyards such as Amels, Vitters and Feadship were showcasing their products and services while others made some ground-breaking announcements.
Lurssen , a yard renowned for building the world’s biggest superyachts, announced it will start work on the 54m/177ft superyacht ‘Moon Sand’ in collaboration with Bannenberg & Rowell.
In comparison, Sunseeker looks to capitalise on recent demand for larger vessels by partnering with Dutch yard Icon Yachts to produce a new 49m aluminium superyacht, which will launch in 2021.

Three of the best new yachts in 2018

Three of the best new yachts: 2018’s most exciting projects revealed
The shipyards where cutting-edge technology and innovative design continue to raise the bar in yacht design .
A look back at three of the best new yachts 2018 has given us, where innovative designs and cutting-edge technology are setting an industry standard.
As we approach 2019, it’s time to reflect on another incredible 12 months on the water with an array of new launches that continue to evolve the art of superyacht construction. Every year shipyards set new standards for the industry as they combine state-of-the-art technologies with revolutionary designs. Here are three of our favourite new yachts 2018 has introduced us to.
Nobiskrug Artefact
From the German masters who delivered the majestic Sailing Yacht A , Nobiskrug reinforces its position as the shipyard to make the impossible possible with its latest project, Artefact. The distinctive design combines art and science to fulfil the Owner’s desire for environmental responsibility, technological innovation, and guest comfort. When it is completed in 2019, ARTEFACT will live up to its name; an object of cultural or historical interest, crafted by humans.
Nobiskrug Yacht Artefact:
Special features including a DC bus, batteries and a variable speed Electric ABB Pod propulsion system are a first for a hybrid superyacht and, along with increased efficiency, will result in lower emissions and lessen noise and vibrations. Her Advanced Dynamic Positioning System reduces the need to drop anchor while maintaining guest comfort on board and protecting the seabed. Further innovations include the location of the Master stateroom, which has moved from the bow to the aft, and other guest entertaining areas in low-acceleration zones.
Nobiskrug Yacht Artefact – the last word:
Gregory Marshall Studio designed ARTEFACT’s striking exterior and her superstructure blends composite materials with oversized glass windows and curved panels.
Rosetti Superyachts, 52m Supply Vessel
Rosetti Superyachts 52m supply vessel:
Designed in partnership with Giovanni Griggio of Phi Design Lab, Rosetti Superyachts 52m supply vessel concept was unveiled at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show and promises to combine the capabilities of a supply vessel with the luxury features of a superyacht, all while offering a variety of customisable design options. At 142 sqm, the large aft deck can be transformed into a touch-and-go helipad or large beach club, depending on Owner wishes, all while retaining the swimming pool and solarium.
Below, the doors of the aft tender garage open to convert into a full-beam beach club adjacent to the gym and spa area. Despite its supply vessel status, the yacht features a full-beam main deck master stateroom and a further four cabins on the lower deck.
Rosetti Superyachts – the last word:
Elements of both the interior and exterior design draw inspiration from the structure of leaves, a motif which can be seen along the bulwark and in the stainless-steel artwork that separates the living and dining areas.
Fincantieri project Mirage
Another of the best new yachts in 2018, Fincantieri’s latest concept, 106m Mirage, is a result of the Italian shipyard’s collaboration with Dutch designers Pieter van Geest and Tracey- Jayne Canavaggio of Van Geest Designs. As the name suggests, the project draws upon extensive glass innovation that will allow this striking yacht to reflect, and therefore blend into, its surroundings; no mean feat for a vessel of this size.
The very definition of an exclusive retreat, the concept boasts six decks, a maximum beam of 15.2m, and the capacity to accommodate 14 guests in seven staterooms. The sketches promise a chic, minimalist interior, coupled with generous exterior spaces, including a helipad, aft-deck swimming pool, top-deck outdoor cinema and a full-beam beach club.
Fincantieri project Mirage – the last word:
One of the highlights of this impressive concept? A full-beam spa, where privacy is guaranteed thanks to the graduated glass.

Snook on the Hook
The snook is an ambush predator of the saltwater shallows, often hiding among mangroves and attacking prey as it swims by or is swept past by current. Finding spots where snook like to hide is key to catching them, and in this episode we slide in next to an gnarly edge of mangroves and make precise drifts with our baits to pull fish from the cover.
TriStar Cobra III Field Pump Super Compact .410
With a 13-inch length of pull and 18 1/2-inch barrel, the Super Compact version of the Cobra III pump shotgun from TriStar is sized just right for young or small-framed shooters. We spent a few minutes with Eric Renander of TriStar to get a closer look at this new .410 bore and discovered it has many of the features found on full-size shotguns, which hunters of all ages will appreciate.
Federal Premium Freight Train Copper Sabot Slug
One of the most high-tech shotgun slugs to hit the market, the Freight Train is a polymer-tipped copper projectile designed for greater penetration and accuracy. We talked to Adam Moser from Federal Ammunition to get details on not only the slug, but also its wad and sabot, and to find out what the new Freight Train has to offer deer hunters.
Saltwater Setup
Keep things simple when it comes to tackle for the salt by choosing one general-purpose rod and reel combo that will serve for a variety of gamefish and presentations both inshore and offshore. In this episode, Capt. George Gozdz provides tips on how to make that selection, and we put the combo to the test against sailfish, tarpon, snook and more.
Jacks to the Max
The jack crevalle often doesn't get the respect it deserves when compared to species like sailfish and snook, but jacks can provide thrilling action on light tackle—especially when fishing topwater baits. In this episode, we go in pursuit of jacks to show you why these ravenous brawlers are well worth your time and attention.

The Best Mini Yacht Brands for Cruising and Luxury
6th sep 2024 by lenny rudow.
There are many different types of yachts , and there’s no commonly agreed definition of what makes one a mini yacht, but you’ll know one the moment you step aboard. Luxury and comfort are prerequisites, and to be any sort of yacht a boat needs to have all the comforts of home. Most mariners would consider 40 feet of LOA (length overall) to be the minimum for a “regular” yacht, yet there are plenty of luxurious vessels in the 30- to low-40-foot range that, setting aside size, check all the boxes to qualify for yacht status. These, we can safely dub mini yachts. But, which are the best mini yacht brands? How much do mini yachts cost? Is there one out there that might prove ideal for you and your family?
Best Mini Yachts Under $250,000
Best mini yachts $250,000 to $500,000, best luxury mini yachts, best sport mini yachts, best family mini yachts, choosing the best mini yacht for you.
While $250,000 is a lot of money to most of us, it’s an impossibly low figure to purchase a new, full-sized yacht. It’s even tough to find a mini yacht in this category, too. You have to expect minimal size, tight quarters, and a limited number of berths. That said, there are some boats out there that hit this price-point yet still offer reaspmab;e sleeping quarters, full galleys, comfortable saloons, and yacht prerequisites like air conditioning and entertainment centers.
When searching the market for a mini yacht you’ll find that while your options may be limited at this price ceiling, it’s possible to find a wider range of models if you consider looking at used boats for sale . True, we’d all like to buy our boats new. But a wide variety of mini yachts that cost above this budgetary bar when new can be found within this range when they’re just a few years old, including some of the very best yacht brands around.
Top Mini Yacht Brand Picks Under $250,000
As one of the largest boat builders in the world, Beneteau benefits from economies of scale, and they have boats with all the goods of a mini yacht that fall into this budget range. The Antares 11, a 36-footer with all the comforts of home and a swing-down gunwale that transforms into a huge swim platform, is one example. Or if sailing is more your style, check out the Oceanis 34.1, with two private cabins and a full galley, head, and dinette. Beneteau boats for sale

Ranger Tugs
Ranger Tugs offers the R-27, which despite its model designation is 31’7” long. Starting cost is just under our mark, rigged and ready for cruising with a Yamaha F300 outboard that provides sporty performance with a 30-mph cruising speed and a top-end over 40 mph. There’s a forward private stateroom, a dinette that converts into a berth, a full galley, air conditioning, and plenty of little perks like USB charging ports, an electric grill, a multi-zone stereo system, and EVA foam padding on the deck. Doubling the budget opens up a lot more possibilities, particularly among options from the best cabin cruiser boat brands. You can get a bit larger, a bit more opulent, and you’ll have many more options with diesel inboard power versus outboards and stern drives. Of course, not all cabin cruisers can make the grade as a mini yacht, and not all mini yachts are cabin cruisers. As your choices expand, you’ll have a lot more decisions to make.
Top Mini Yacht Brand Picks Under $500,000
The Axopar line includes several models that MSRP in this price range, but the big surprise here is just how large you can get and stay under the $500,000 mark. The 45 Cross Top, for example, pushes the boundary of putting the “mini” in mini yacht, yet still lists for substantially less than half a mil. We should note that these boats are by design more like weekenders than cruisers, with relatively small cabins for their size and lots of open outdoor space, but those who are more concerned with feeling the salty breezes and warm sunshine than they are with sleeping space will love them. Axopar boats for sale

Cutwater is known for building boats that pack a lot of utility into a very small package, and models like the C-30 CB (35’8” LOA) and C-32 CB (37’8” LOA) are great examples of why. They have everything aboard you need to live the yachting lifestyle, a flybridge atop the cabin, and are available with luxury packages but still don’t come close to breaking this price-point. Plus, with the C-30 you get the reliability and long range abilities of cruising with a diesel inboard in the engine room. Cutwater boats for sale
Cutwater C-30 CB. Cutwater photo
Jeanneau, part of the Beneteau Group, has several models that hit the mark. One nifty perk is that some, like the NC 1095 Fly, meet all the parameters for a mini-yacht and fall into this price range but also have a flying bridge. There’s no doubt you’ll feel on top of the world when you’re running your mini yacht from up top. Jeanneau also has several Sun Odyssey sailing yachts that make the grade for those who want to run with the wind. Jeanneau boats for sale
Jeanneau NC 1095 Fly. Jeanneau photo
To some degree luxury, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, but it’s hard to argue with goodies like high-tech entertainment systems, electrically-actuated loungers, solid teak interiors, or all of the above—and then some. In any case you’ll expect perks like high-end fabrics covering uber-comfortable cushions, complete climate control, and heads that have separate showers. It’s tough to fit all that into a mini yacht’s footprint, but these builders make the grade.
Top Luxury Mini Yacht Brand Picks
Back Cove Yachts was among our choices for the 10 Best Downeast Lobster Boat Brands, and this builder pulls a repeat appearance in the mini yacht division. With classic looks, a spectacular fit and finish, straight diesel inboard powerplants, and interiors that literally gleam with varnish, Back Cove’s boats are classics in every sense. Yet they also pamper the occupants with perks like hot and cold cockpit showers, electric-opening engine room hatches, and charging stations throughout. Back Cove boats for sale

While much of the Cruisers lineup extends beyond the size of a mini, their 39 EC is a boat that can’t be overlooked, and there’s also an argument to be made for including their GLS series in the realm of mini yachts. What all of the boats built by this brand share is an enormous amount of comfortable seating and open cockpits with huge settees and lounges. What’s unusual about the GLS series is that they sacrifice some cabin space to gain a bow cockpit. Yes, this does cut down on sleeping quarters, but it gains a tremendous amount of outdoor seating, and Cruisers expands your luxury level by including goodies like hydraulic lowering swim platforms, swing-down gunwale platforms, and shape-shifting seats that convert into sunpads. Another boat with classic looks and downeast lines is Sabre. Only one of their models, the 38 Salon Express, counts as a mini (they have five larger models up to 58’), but it scores so high in the luxury department there’s no doubt it belongs in this roundup. This is a pod-drive boat powered by inboard diesel Volvo D4 or D6 IPS drives, riding on a high-tech resin-infused hull. Of course, what’s inside that hull is what provides the luxury, and from one item to the next you’ll spot cut-above quality. The horn is a chrome Kahlenberg; helm seats are Stidds; the steering wheel is crafted from real teak; and soles are real teak and holly. Sabre boats for sale

Can mini yachts really be sporty? Most aren’t, and they pay far more attention to interior design, comfort features, and accommodations than they do to performance. But there are a few brands out there that employ the latest in hull design and construction then match it up with beefy powerplants. The net result? You can enjoy thrill rides and high-speed chases between the bouts of lounging.
Top Sport Mini Yacht Brand Picks
Boston whaler.
Many people would think of Boston Whaler’s boats as fishing machines rather than mini yachts, but models in their Conquest line have everything it takes to be both. And, on top of that, their performance makes them far sportier than most of the competition. The 365 Conquest, for example, can carry a pair of Mercury’s V12 600-hp outboards—the most powerful outboard engines in production today—and it can hit speeds in excess of 50 mph. You want even more speed? Fine. Move up to the 405 Conquest and you can get three of those 600-hp powerhouses, pushing speeds into the 60s. Boston Whaler boats for sale

Formula has always been known for building performance boats, and their Sun Sport models combine that performance with comfort-laden cabins, wet bars, loungers, and entertainment centers. There’s a wide range of power options but if you rig a 310 SS with twin Mercury 8.2 MAG ECT engines and Bravo III drives, you can look for top-end speeds in the upper-50s. Formula boats for sale

What makes a mini yacht great for the family? Well, truth be told any boat is apt to provide lots of family fun. But some are better for the job than others. If you want to cruise with the entire family aboard, in addition to the usual luxury touches, you’ll probably want to have separate sleeping accommodations for kids and adults, a swim platform with easy access to the water, and a good entertainment system aboard.
Top Family Mini Yacht Brand Picks
Pursuit has a well-deserved reputation for building rather luxurious boats and their Offshore models could have landed in a different category in this roundup, but they get the nod as a great family mini yacht for two reasons: first, because the mid-cabin berth means you get multiple sleeping spaces belowdecks, and second, because of this brand’s fishy attitude. Many kids love to fish and many parents love the bonding time, so angling households will find these boats ideal. Pursuit boats for sale

Regal’s express cruiser lineup has a couple of models that count as mini yachts, and these are eminently family-friendly. Highlights include a folding “UltraLounge” in the cockpit that converts from forward-facing lounger to aft-facing lounger to sunpad, an optional “PowerPlatform” swim step that lowers from the swim platform at the press of a button, and surprisingly spacious cabins with separate mid-cabin and forward berths. Sea Ray boats have always been known for being ideal family fun machines, and while most of their lineup is smaller than we’d designate as a mini yacht, the Sundancer line makes the grade. (The SLX line hits the sizing right, too, but cabin space is much more limited). From a family angle, we love the triple-wide bow seating integrated into a cockpit shallow enough for cabin space underneath but deep enough for kids to safely ride up front; the superior snackability of the wet bar with outdoor grill and refrigerator; and the mid-cabin berths in addition to forward berths so both the kids and the adults have their own space. Choosing among the best mini yacht brands is no small task, and choosing a specific model is even tougher. On top of that, you need to decide which type of mini yacht will make you and your family happiest. Then, there’s the question of cost: how much is a yacht , and is your budget appropriate for the smallest, least expensive options, or for larger ones? There’s only one way to answer these questions (and all the other ones bouncing around in your head right now), and that’s to take your time and check out all your options. Carefully. When you’re ready to make a decision, you’ll know it—from the first moment you step aboard.

The Best Horror Show on Netflix
‘the haunting of hill house’ (2018) - rt: 93% | imdb: 8.5/10, the haunting of hill house.
Horror visionary Mike Flanagan ( Midnight Mass ) creates a time-hopping loose adaptation of the Shirley Jackson novel of the same name that expands the themes of the original while bathing the visuals in the signature Flanagan flare. The story takes a similar approach to Stephen King ’s It , showing a traumatic haunting from the perspective of five siblings as children inter-spliced with the lives of the adults who carry the weight of those events. The series features an unnaturally great ensemble, including Carla Gugino ( Gerald's Game ), Michiel Huisman ( Game of Thrones ), and Kate Siegel ( Hush ). And once you’ve devoured this series, you can enjoy the next in Flanagan’s Haunting anthology, The Haunting of Bly Manor .

The Best Horror Show on Hulu
‘what we do in the shadows’ (2019 - 2024) - rt: 97% | imdb: 8.6/10, what we do in the shadows.
This ghoulishly funny expansion of the world of the What We Do in the Shadows universe is one of the best pieces of vampire media to come out in decades. Establishing a similar dynamic as the cult classic film, the series follows a household of vampires who each represent a different flavor of bloodsucker: Kayvan Novak ( Archer ) as a version of the classic Vlad the Impaler archetype, Matt Berry ( Fallout ) as an Anne Rice -style erotic British noble vampire, and Natasia Demetriou ( Kite Man: Hell Yeah! ) as a Greek-Romani peasant turned undead that leans more into the folkloric aspects of vampirism. Though I would argue the main audience surrogate that drives many a shenanigan is the familiar Guillermo, who is brought to life by the delightfully relatable Harvey Guillén ( Harley Quinn ). With the final season releasing this year, it’s the perfect time to get into this batty comedy.

The Best Horror Show on Prime Video
‘hannibal’ (2013 - 2015) - rt: 93% | imdb: 8.5/10.
Based on characters from the Thomas Harris novels, Hannibal is a delectably deranged psychological thriller that will make you both hungry and queasy at the same time. The story takes place before the events of The Silence of the Lambs , which is most people’s first introduction to the charismatic cannibal Hannibal Lecter, and follows an eccentric FBI profiler on the hunt for a mysterious serial killer. Hugh Dancy ( Law & Order ) takes on the role of the profiler Will Graham and delivers a stunning performance as his slow descent into madness is only amplified as he executes a complex game of cat-and-mouse with his new friend and psychiatrist Hannibal Lector, played by Mads Mikkelsen ( Doctor Strange ), who brings everything you want from a Lector performance — charisma, ruthlessness, and a healthy amount of homoeroticism. This show is a tantalizing buddy cop horror that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

‘the last of us’ (2023 - present) - rt: 96% | imdb: 8.7/10, the last of us.
Brought to you by Craig Mazin , creator of the award-winning series Chernobyl , and Neil Druckmann , the co-creator of the original hit video game series, The Last of Us is a dystopian horror where the most frightening aspect is the depth to which humans will sink to survive. Set in a world where climate change drives a cordyceps fungus to mutate into an infection that turns humans into zombie-like monsters, a smuggler must courier a young girl with immunity to the fungus across the country. Pedro Pascal ( The Mandalorian ) and Bella Ramsey ( Game of Thrones ) take on the role of the smuggler and the smuggled (Joel and Ellie, respectively), and they give their all to bringing the rich character arc from the game into live-action — an endeavor they more than succeed in accomplishing.

‘goosebumps’ (2023 - present) - rt: 74% | imdb: 6.7/10, goosebumps (2023).
This new Goosebumps series tackles the R. L. Stine children’s horror novels fascinatingly, creating a serialized narrative that weaves together stories and cursed items from the original anthology books to make an original tale. The first season follows a group of five high school students who stumble into being the only one who can stop a supernatural quest for revenge. The main five, played by Zack Morris ( EastEnders ), Isa Briones ( Star Trek: Picard ), Miles McKenna ( Guilty Party ), Ana Yi Puig ( Jade Armor ), and Will Price ( Brave the Dark ), are great together and feel like real kids dealing with tough situations, which is great for selling the horror aspects of the show. Plus, we get a wonderfully menacing performance from Justin Long ( It's a Wonderful Knife ), which is a rare treat from this genuinely sweet comedic actor.

‘calls’ (2021) - rt: 95% | imdb: 7.7/10.
Breakout horror filmmaker Fede Álvarez ( Alien: Romulus ) proves his storytelling prowess isn’t just confined to his magnificent visual style as he adapts the French series of the same name that conveys the unsettling events through a series of found-footage style audio recordings. Lending their voices is a full cast of top-tier talent, including Aubrey Plaza ( Emily the Criminal ), Clancy Brown ( 13 Days of Halloween ), Rosario Dawson ( Haunted Mansion ), and Karen Gillan ( Sleeping Dogs ). This nine-episode miniseries calls back to the golden age of audio drama podcasts when we were treated to bangers like Gimlet’s Homecoming and QCode’s Blackout while enhancing the experience with sensational visualizations of the soundwaves and captions. And though you may be tempted to enjoy the cascade of colorful, swirling images in an “elevated” state, I promise you, this thrill ride will send you on a wild trip.

The Best Horror Show on Peacock
‘chucky’ (2021 - present) - rt: 93% | imdb: 7.3/10.
Brad Dourif ( Deadwood: The Movie ) returns as the voice of the killer doll to further carve into the Child’s Play franchise. The series takes place after the seventh film, Cult of Chucky , but you don’t need to have seen every single film to jump into the show. Plus, the premise is pretty simple: a doll possessed by a serial killer wreaks havoc in a small town, and his teenage owner has to stop him, or he’ll be blamed for the deaths. In addition to being a darkly funny slasher, it’s also a coming-of-age story for the young stars led by Zackary Arthur ( Transparent ) that dives into themes like toxic living situations, bullying, and wrestling with one's sexuality. After 35 years, it’s crazy that the franchise continues to find new and interesting ways to sink that knife of joy into our hearts, but this series proves that Chucky will never die.

The Best Horror Show on Tubi
‘the exorcist’ (2016 - 2018) - rt: 89% | imdb: 7.9/10, the exorcist.
Another series that broadens the lore of a long-running franchise is The Exorcist , starring Alfonso Herrera ( Sense8 ) and Ben Daniels ( Interview with the Vampire ) as two priests investigating a possible demon possession at the house of a small suburban family. The show takes place after the classic hit film , with nods and mentions here and there, but it's a wholly original story that leans into the horror aspects of fighting demons as an odd couple of buddy-cop exorcists. There is an element of spectacle that lends itself well to this thriller series, but it’s not just smoke and mirrors, as the acting is the big selling point that gets you to lean in before a jump scare launches out of your seat — especially from natural leading lady Geena Davis ( Blink Twice ), who keeps you buckled into this roller coaster at every twist and turn.
Watch on Tubi
The Best Horror Show on Paramount+
‘evil’ (2019 - 2024) - rt: 96% | imdb: 7.8/10.
In a similar arena to The Exorcist , Evil takes the premise of demonic investigations and blends it with the supernatural procedural format of The X-Files . The show stars Katja Herbers ( Westworld ), a barely religious and very skeptical forensic psychologist; Mike Colter ( Luke Cage ), a Catholic priest; and Aasif Mandvi ( Million Dollar Arm ), a technical expert and pragmatic atheist, as they team up to confirm or debunk miraculous or dark supernatural events. The series is a fun exploration of the occult that sometimes takes inspiration from headlines and urban legends to discuss the possibility of the unnatural. This trio is at their best when they are bouncing theories off one another from their own perspectives, while the show leaves enough ambiguity to engage the audience by letting them decide what’s real and what isn’t.

The Best Horror Show on Roku
‘the addams family’ (1964 - 1966) - rt: 100% | imdb: 8.0/10, the addams family (1964).
Of course, we gotta wrap this up with the gothic G.O.A.T., The Addams Family , that gave us a banger intro song, a dope aesthetic, and the most loving sitcom couple on television to date. This adaptation of the beloved comic strip follows the supernaturally macabre Addams, who are a deconstruction of the concept of the nuclear family, inverting many of the tropes from family shows of the '50s like Leave it to Beaver and The Honeymooners that present glossy images of turbulent family dynamics and contentious marriages. Though the Addams are presented as a strange and morbid group, they are a tight-knit, loving family that always supports one another. It’s a glorious and heartwarming satire that any fans of that good, good spooky stuff can enjoy.
