Royal Varuna Yacht Club celebrates 60 years of sailing history and tradition

His Majesty the late King Bhumipol Adulyadej was a regular visitor and sailor at the club during its formative years.

Thailand’s famed Royal Varuna Yacht Club held a celebration for its 60th anniversary on Saturday, November 18 with over 200 members joining the gala dinner event held at the club’s ocean-side premises in South Pattaya.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, then the Crown Prince, places a garland on a Laser sailing boat presented to him during the grand opening of the new Royal Varuna clubhouse in 2004.

The main dining terrace was resplendent in a 1950’s theme to reflect the period of the club’s inception.  Jazz and classical style music was provided by the Royal Thai Navy band and a unique puppet performance brought additional entertainment for those in attendance.

“The Club is not merely the buildings, the land, the staff and its members.  It is a true case where the sum is greater than the constituent parts,” said the Commodore.  “I would like to mention a few members who have stood the test of time and have made very significant contributions to the heart of the Club almost since its inception and there are of course many others who have made significant contributions, these deserve recognition.”

He continued, “Angelo Gaultieri, who became Commodore 45 years ago, is a regular contributor on the committee and with the Phuket King’s Cup; Richard Van Den Heuvel is still a valuable member of the committee; Peter Cummins played a big part of putting RVYC on the map, both with his relationship with His Majesty the late King Bhumipol Adulyadej, but also his prolific writings about the Club in various media.  Al Chandler has also been a very proactive supporter of junior sailing from being a president of International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) in the 1970s onwards to active and generous support throughout the years, including the latest IODA Optimist’s World Championships.”

Commodore Mark Hamill-Stewart address the club members and guests at the 60th Anniversary party, November 18.

The event was a memorable occasion, bringing members together in celebration of this milestone, which culminated with a spectacular fireworks show.

The Royal Varuna Yacht Club was founded in 1957 by HSH Bhisadej Rajani and Walter J. Meyer and other members at a time when Pattaya was little more than a sleepy little coastal village.  A two-story wooden seaside house with a beach ideal for sail-boats was located as the site of the first Varuna clubhouse, now a restaurant close to Bali Hai pier.

Flag-Commodore Mark Hamill-Stewart (centre-rear) poses with staff members who have all contributed to the Club’s success over the past 20 years.

As Pattaya began to develop and the concrete closed in, the Fourth Commodore, Rachot Kanjanavanit (l967-l970), secured the present site – one of the best on the Eastern Seaboard – designed the clubhouse and, in October, l967, led the move “over the hill” to Pratumnak.  The modern new clubhouse is a more recent affair and was opened by His Majesty the current King, then the Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn in 2004.

His Majesty the Late King Bhumibhol Adulyadej and HRH Princess Ubolratana, both keen sailors, regularly sailed at Royal Varuna Yacht Club.  His Majesty became an enthusiastic and skilful helmsman, tutored by Prince Bhisadej who assisted the King in building his own enterprise craft, the “Rajpatan”.  One of the memorable outings was in March of l965 and consisted of a race from Varuna to Koh Larn, with the British Royal Consort Prince Phillip also participating as a guest sailor.

The unique puppet performance brought fun and enjoyment to all.

On September 14, 1968, His Majesty the late King, accompanied by HM the Queen, the Crown Prince and the Princesses, officially opened the Royal Varuna Yacht Club at its current location at Kasetsin Beach in South Pattaya.

During the following decades, a quantum leap in enthusiasm for yacht racing took place, with the original – mostly wooden – Fireballs and Enterprise sailing boats being replaced by the sleek Hobie Cats, single-handed Lasers and an assortment of other fiberglass catamarans.  These craft require much less maintenance than the original classes, an important factor in the busy lifestyles evolving among the Thai and expat communities, reflecting a faster-moving world-at-large.

From left: Capital TV’s Les Nyerges, Royal Varuna Yacht Club General Manager Baz Osborne, Pattaya Mail Media MD, Peter Malhotra and former RVYC Commodore and sailing author Peter Cummins enjoy the atmosphere at the party.

Ruchai Kanjanavanit, brother of Fourth Commodore Rachot, actually introduced the Optimist dinghy into Thailand in the early 1970s with the little dinghy carrying the auspicious number THA 1.  It was shortly afterwards, however, that Al Chandler realized the potential of the Optimist craft for the training of juniors – and for helping ensure that a pool of young sailors was ready to move into adult classes.  Al placed his time, his formidable drive and personal resources behind the development of the Optimist in Thailand.

Royal Varuna Yacht Club has given much time and effort to the development of youth sailing and will no doubt continue to do so.  The Club has consistently co-operated with the Royal Thai Navy and the Junior Sailing Squadron of Thailand (JSST) and, makes RVYC facilities available for training, practice and racing.

The Royal Thai Navy band played 50s & 60s period music at the party to bring back memories of yesteryear.

With 450 members, Royal Varuna is a family oriented club for sailors of all abilities, from the uninitiated to serious racers.  The Club offers a year-round sailing program with cruising and racing and also sailing tuition for adults in its extensive sailing program under RYA accreditation from the UK.

Visit Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Thailand

the royal varuna yacht club

March 14, 2019

If you are travelling to Thailand – take the time to visit the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Chonburi – Founded in 1957, the history of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club is, virtually, the history of yacht racing, sailing and cruising in Thailand. The club was originally located next to the only restaurant, at the southern end of Pattaya strip. The first race recorded was around an uncluttered Pattaya Bay of sparkling waters, where a motley fleet of Enterprises, Ospreys, a “prawn dinghy”, a 7-metre ‘folksboat’ and even a sailing canoe raced for the “Varuna Marine Trophy”. The first national championship recorded in the Kingdom was the Enterprise Nationals, held at the Varuna Marine Club in 1962.

Sit at their open air bar and enjoy a  selection of cold beers, cocktails or soft drinks while watching the sailboats or a stunning sunset over Koh Larn. On site accommodation is also available – www.varuna.org

Royal Varuna Yacht Club to host ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 Masters World Championships in 2023

the royal varuna yacht club

The Royal Varuna Yacht Club (RVYC) has secured the rights to hold ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 Masters Worlds in Pattaya, Thailand, in February 2023 - and that's only 8 months away.

ILCA 6 and 7 are the classes which were previously called Laser Radial and Laser Standard. It is expected that between 150-200 sailors will attend each event, so it will be huge, even by the lofty standards of past RVYC events. Having these numbers of competitors in Thailand will, of course, bring benefits to the area and potentially the country, as many will undoubtably take the opportunity to see other parts of Thailand when they are here to race.

ILCA 6 Masters Worlds starts on Wednesday February 8, 2023, with ILCA 7 following suit on Saturday February 18. Full details will be posted at sailing.laserinternational.org/site/events-list when available.

The Master sailors from RVYC are stepping up to the challenge by organizing 2/3 day training weekends on the third or fourth weekend of each month for the remainder of 2022. The sailors have been promised Masters-specific coaching from Veerasit Puangnak (Lim) who represented Thailand in the Laser class at the Sydney Olympics 2000, supplemented by guest coaches. So far the maximum number of participants is 22, but numbers are expected to grow from September onwards, now that it is easy to travel to Thailand again. For those not quite up to date - since 01 May, international travellers are welcome in Thailand as long as they are fully vaccinated. There are no other pre-conditions for entry to The Land of Smiles.

the royal varuna yacht club

These weekends are open for all Masters ILCA sailors (age 30+), for the modest fee of 1,200 baht (USD 35) for a two-day weekend or 1,800 baht (USD 52) on a three-day weekend. Charter boats are available, either for the weekends, or for the entire training period, with or without the Masters Worlds events.

A typical weekend could consist of longer courses/exercises (Friday); working on starts and specific skills (Saturday, two sessions), and racing/individual coaching (Sunday). Over the 13 months the programme is running, training has already started with particular focus on boat handling and skills development, and will move towards starts, speed, and race craft closer to the Worlds. It will also be feasible to participate in two or three major Thai races throughout the year, not to mention the Thailand Nationals which will be scheduled immediately prior to the Masters Worlds in order to encourage more international competitors to participate.

Highly convenient accommodation is available at RVYC at very reasonable rates, and - most importantly - there will be free refreshments at the RVYC Beach Bar after each Saturday's de-brief.

If you want to take part in the coaching, contact the Varuna sailors on

History of Moscow Oblast

The territory of the Moscow region was inhabited more than 20 thousand years ago. In the first millennium AD, this land was inhabited mostly by the Finno-Ugric peoples (Meryane and Meshchera). In the 9th-10th centuries, the Slavs began active development of the region. The population was engaged in hunting, fisheries, agriculture, and cattle breeding.

In the middle of the 12th century, the territory of the present Moscow region became part of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality, the first towns were founded (Volokolamsk in 1135, Moscow in 1147, Zvenigorod in 1152, Dmitrov in 1154). In the first half of the 13th century, the Vladimir-Suzdal principality was conquered by the Mongols.

In the 14th-16th centuries, Moscow principality became the center of unification of Russian lands. The history of the Moscow region is inextricably linked to military events of the Time of Troubles - the siege of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery by the troops of False Dmitry II, the first and second militias.

More historical facts…

In 1708, by decree of Peter the Great, Moskovskaya gubernia (province) was established. It included most of the territory of present Moscow oblast. In 1712, St. Petersburg became the capital of the Russian Empire and the significance of the Moscow region as the country’s economic center began to decrease.

In 1812, the Battle of Borodino took place near Moscow. It was the biggest battle of the Russian-French War of 1812. In the second half of the 19th century, especially after the peasant reform of 1861, the Moscow province experienced economic growth. In 1851, the first railway connected Moscow and St. Petersburg; in 1862 - Nizhny Novgorod.

The population of the Moscow region increased significantly (in 1847 - 1.13 million people, in 1905 - 2.65 million). On the eve of the First World War, Moscow was a city with a population of more than one million people.

In November, 1917, the Soviet power was established in the region. In 1918, the country’s capital was moved from St. Petersburg to Moscow that contributed to economic recovery of the province. In the 1920s-1930s, a lot of churches located near Moscow were closed, a large number of cultural monuments were destroyed. On January 14, 1929, Moscow Oblast was formed.

In 1941-1942, one of the most important battles of the Second World War took place on the territory of the region - the Battle for Moscow. In the postwar years, the growth of economic potential of the region continued; several science cities were founded (Dubna, Troitsk, Pushchino, Chernogolovka).

In the 1990s, the economy of Moscow Oblast experienced a deep crisis. Since the 1990s, due to the motorization of the population and commuting, road traffic situation in the Moscow region significantly deteriorated. Traffic jams have become commonplace.

Moscow Oblast - Features

Moscow Oblast is located in the central part of the East European Plain, in the basin of the rivers of Volga, Oka, Klyazma, Moskva. The region stretches from north to south for 310 km, from west to east - 340 km. It was named after the city of Moscow, which however is not part of the region. Part of the administrative authorities of the region is located in Krasnogorsk.

On the territory of the Moscow region, there are 77 cities and towns, 19 of them have a population of more than 100 thousand people. The largest cities are Balashikha (518,300), Podolsk (309,600), Mytishchi (262,700), Khimky (256,300), Korolyov (225,300), Lubertsy (209,600), Krasnogorsk (174,900), Elektrostal (149,000), Odintsovo (138,900), Kolomna (136,800), Domodedovo (136,100).

The climate is temperate continental. Summers are warm, winters are moderately cold. The average temperature in January is minus 10 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 19 degrees Celsius.

One of the most important features of the local economy is its proximity to Moscow. Some of the cities (Odintsovo, Krasnogorsk, Mytishchi) have become in fact the “sleeping districts” of Moscow. The region is in second place in terms of industrial production among the regions of Russia (after Moscow).

The leading industries are food processing, engineering, chemical, metallurgy, construction. Moscow oblast has one of the largest in Russia scientific and technological complexes. Handicrafts are well developed (Gzhel ceramics, Zhostov trays, Fedoskino lacquered miniatures, toy-making).

Moscow railway hub is the largest in Russia (11 radial directions, 2,700 km of railways, the density of railways is the highest in Russia). There are two large international airports - Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo. Vnukovo airport is used for the flights within the country.

Attractions of Moscow Oblast

Moscow Oblast has more than 6,400 objects of cultural heritage:

  • famous estate complexes,
  • ancient towns with architectural monuments (Vereya, Volokolamsk, Dmitrov, Zaraysk, Zvenigorod, Istra, Kolomna, Sergiev Posad, Serpukhov),
  • churches and monasteries-museums (the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, Joseph-Volokolamsk monastery, Pokrovsky Khotkov monastery, Savvino Storozhevsky monastery, Nikolo Ugresha monastery).

The most famous estate complexes:

  • Arkhangelskoye - a large museum with a rich collection of Western European and Russian art of the 17th-19th centuries,
  • Abramtsevo - a literary and artistic center,
  • Melikhovo - an estate owned by A.P. Chekhov at the end of the 19th century,
  • Zakharovo and Bolshiye Vyazyomy included in the History and Literature Museum-Reserve of Alexander Pushkin,
  • House-Museum of the composer P.I. Tchaikovsky in Klin,
  • Muranovo that belonged to the poet F.I. Tyutchev,
  • Shakhmatovo - the estate of the poet Alexander Blok.

The architectural ensemble of the Trinity Sergius Lavra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The largest museum of the Moscow region is located in Serpukhov - Serpukhov Historical and Art Museum.

The places of traditional arts and crafts are the basis of the souvenir industry of Russia:

  • Fedoskino - lacquer miniature painting,
  • Bogorodskoe - traditional manufacture of wooden toys,
  • Gzhel - unique tradition of creating ceramics,
  • Zhostovo - painted metal crafts,
  • Pavlovsky Posad - fabrics with traditional printed pattern.

Some of these settlements have museums dedicated to traditional crafts (for example, a toy museum in Bogorodskoe), as well as centers of learning arts and crafts.

On arrival at the speedy check in Deer or 1 of his multi lingual attentive staff will welcome you personally, you are treated like a VIP throughout your stay and that feeling starts at check in. Once checked in get in the lift and press P making sure you look out of the curved window and as you reach P your jaw will drop at the site of the infinity pool and the views. The pool boys are straight over to you arranging beds, sun umbrellas & laying your towels out for you. The 2 restaurants and coffee shop are well staffed and a good selection of international food is available. The staff take the time to get to know you and are always courteous and polite without being invasive. There are too many staff to name them all individually although I would dearly love to but during my stay the stars for me were Deer the most caring front of house manager I have met in any country in any hotel assisted by all his front of house team, in the Oceana restaurant at breakfast and dinner Oscar and Henry are always available as F and B managers and nothing is to much trouble for them they are also assisted by a willing team with Karl always there to lend a hand and watch over the seamless service. In Ruffino and the pool Louis and Thip (pool boys) are amazing and Aum and Nina take great pride in their work upstairs and the Lovely Amy who always seems to be there smiling and welcoming you every time she sees you. i wish I could remember more names of the staff to praise them all but be assured you will get to know them and have your own favourites. The breakfast is exceptional and that's when you are likely to meet Dominique the general manager who thinks nothing of walking round saying good morning and offering you chocolates. This new hotel is 5* service, staff, property with little touches of class from all levels of staff that also make you feel like your staying with friends.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport, we took a tourist shuttle bus to Pattaya (about 2 hrs) and stopped at a terminal to transfer to a shuttle van that would transport us to our hotel. we passed by a string of small to good sized hotels, uncertain how our Royal Cliff choice would relate from beautiful pictures to the actual thing. When we reached Royal Cliff, away from all the bustle of busy Pattaya, my first impression was "paradise!". our well appointed mini-suite was as promised in the pictures; Agoda has made everything easy for us. Checking in was a breeze. all the amenities provided nothing but tranquil relaxation for our family, giving us every opportunity to bond and have fun together. since its quite a distance from the town proper, taxi cab is the mode of transport often used to get to night markets, outlets and the thousands of restaurants. It is best to know though beforehand of any special events or holidays because some roads are closed to traffic. in our case, the Sonkran Festival made us miss the opportunity to visit the Sanctuary of Truth,eg. but we were able to go to Buddha Hill near our hotel amd it was such a great experience. Thais are quite as hospitable as Filipinos and that is just great!

The hotel is nice and spacious, rooms are clean, quite, and with very good view @ 17 floor. You can enjoy many of the pools in nearby hotels under the same brand. The cons are the transportation, it's a bit far from the Pattaya center area, cost 200B+ to go Walking Street or beach road. So recommend this hotel to those who prefer a quite and relaxing stay in Pattaya and only enjoy the hotel service.

All is there, you can relax with your spouse and enjoying the beach, swim at the beach whole day, hv breakfast lunch and dinner in one place with so many different choices, heard they have 11 restaurant. We only tried 3 of them and we love it! Love the room, bed is very comfortable -not too soft and not too hard, just right. Love the bathroom. I stayed in 10103 Royal Grand Hotel. The sunset view from our balcony is very beautiful. Staff is very friendly and helpful, they help me to arrange tour to Nong Nooch and car to go back to Bangkok. The pool is amazing, you can access 3 different pool in one place with 3 different view. 4 pools if you stay in Royal Wing Suites. Tried Rossini, Lan Throng and Panorama restaurant. For this hotel class, I can say the price is reasonable. Buffet breakfast at panorama is 715 Baht per person, if buffet is too much for you, I suggest to buy their Doughnut or sandwiches, is only 30-50 Baht each and you can enjoy your breakfast at the beach. For the beach, suggest you walk a bit to the beach beside royal cliff private beach.

Was offered an upgrade but without the seaview which i booked but had to turn it down as it wasn’t much of an upgrade either. Staff were very friendly though. The housecleaning staff forgot the hand and face towels the first day, probably due to the rush to cleanup the room. Lightings in the room cannot be switched on and off individually as they run on a programme. Bathroom floor is slippery when wet, very common in thai hotels i noticed. Pillows were a tad too soft. Breakfast spread was good. Plenty of charging ports in the room. Don’t really have space for luggage. Key card somehow cannot be used after the second day and had to be reset.

There are 2 excellent restaurants, great SPA, playroom for small kids with many activities and great club. The staff are super friendly and will assist you with anything you need. The price is a bit higher than other resorts you will find nearby, but since this is InterContinental it well worth the extra money. Go for it. You will not regret!

The stay with them was amazing as the staff there really caters to your needs and the hotel room was very clean and comfortable that therefore I felt really pampered during the whole trip. The experience with the royal wing was just amazing and I will definitely come back to visit again. The great thing about this hotel is that it is very quiet as no other guests can come to visit but we, the guest of royal wing are able to visit the other hotel's pool therefore if anybody is looking for a nice and quiet place for relaxing, this is the place I would highly recommend. Furthermore, the manager and staff was so friendly that they are fast on getting our rooms ready as quick as they can to prevent us from waiting as well as telling us more on the new renovation of double rooms that are connected but was a pity that we can't take a tour because of the renovation. Last but not least, breakfast is amazing too as there are varieties to choose from which are mostly international food. I will definitely go back and visit again which in fact I am planning to on around October.

Breakfast had a great variety. The hotel itself is lovely. The pool area is a good size and very very relaxing. I eat everyday at the pool(Thai food is excellent and so cheap!)also had a couple beers everyday around dinner time. Once I settled up the bill at the end of the trip I was amazed how excellent value for money this hotel is. I would say the very best part of this lovely place is the STAFF!!! Every member of the staff at this hotel a genuinely lovely and happy to get to know you without being to "in your face". I got to know "CHOK" very well and couldn't be more helpful if you needed anything. Also little "L" the bartender. I was very sorry leaving Citrus Park at the end of my trip but I will most definitely be back to Citrus Park.

Staff are super friendly here and I love this hotel. Deluxe room perfect and this is my go to hotel now in Pattaya. One in the best massage shops within the hotel their restaurant serves excellent food. You will not be disappointed😄.

It is on the headland beyond the south of the main Pattaya Beach and commands a magnificient view over the ocean. It has a very laid-back atmosphere with relaxing gardens, pool and private beach, but still has easy access to excellent shopping and unique nightlife. Within 5-10 years it will be bought and ripped down to rebuild an exclusive 5 star hotel charging four times the price. Part of history will be lost.

We had a great stay at Royal Beach. Free wifi in the room, super clean, spectacular views! It's located on a quiet road facing the beach so you don't have all the noise of walking street. The hotel did their best to speak English and cater to us in any way possible. We had breakfast at the hotel twice, it's catered more towards the European crowd and wasn't really our taste. Overall we had an amazing sty and would return! (We stayed as a couple with no children)

Great Pool..the best restuarant I have eaten at in a long time..French and the meat A++ quality. And I have been in Thailand for over 3 months now. The best in all cases. Best for the value. They could improve on their small TV (all french channels) But who wants to spend the time watching. OK internet..works. But I will stay here again and again when I go to Pattaya.

I'd say the best part of this hotel was the staff.

Note: This was the first leg of my very first trip to Thailand, so I can't compare to other hotels in Pattaya, only to other hotels I subsequently visited on my trip, or to similarly-priced hotels in Singapore, Taiwan and China. the suite was very affordable. Very clean. I found the staff very unobtrusive, but friendly and helpful when needed. Location: The hotel is about 5' (slow) walking distance from Walking Street and shopping districts. In most ways it's nice be removed from all the activity. On the other hand, the hotel is not on regular tuk-tuk routes, so you may be charged extra (I was quoted twice 150 baht/person from WS) if you would rather not walk back (for example carrying something heavy/bulky). Minor cons: 1. I found that the AC was way too cold and hard blowing, but then I generally have that problem in Asia, so it my be a problem with me :-) 2. Due to 1. above, the lack of tissue paper in the suite was inconvenient. Until then I had never been in a hotel room that did not provide tissues, even in cheap hotels. Apparently this is a Thailand thing [???] because none of the hotels on this trip provided tissues either. 3. The safe was large enough for my 15' MacBook Pro, but will not fit bulkier PC laptops. The hotel has a restaurant that looks (and smells) very good, and is packed every night with couples & groups. As a solo traveler I did not feel that I fit in and did not try the food.

Baan Souy Resort

We booked this hotel by location. It was outside noisy center, next to boxing club and good to to rail waterski. Hotel was new, clean and personal was lovely.

We were here for a friends wedding and definitely recommend it. We booked a deluxe room and it was massive. The shower pressure was amazing and the roof top pool was awesome! I would recommend catching a taxi down to walking street as the trip home is all uphill. There is also an amazing massage place down the road. You turn left out of the hotel and continue down to the first street where family mart is. It's a green building and the lovely ladies only charge 200 baht for an hour massage. We will definitely book this hotel again!

One of the best experiences that I have ever had. The food in Pattaya is not exactly cheap compared to Bangkok, especially for tourists. The in-house restaurant offers a good alternative, so much so that we always made an extra effort to complete our tour before the night falls just to catch up with dinner in the hotel. The management is attentive to details and, to this end, the hotel provides a shuttle service for the guests, often at rates that are not only reasonable, but sufficient to make the songtaew drivers in Pattaya sweat. The location is good for people who are pretty familiar with Pattaya and would want to stay out of the noisy bars and nightclubs. I would suggest that hooks or hangers be installed on the back of doors in the toilet. It's a small detail that they missed, at least for the room that I stayed. Guests should also have the option of locking the room from inside with a door chain for that extra peace of mind at night. The staff are excellent - friendly, courteous, eager to please. Don't take for granted. Staff who are eager to please are hard to come by, not even in 5-star hotels.

Hotel Zing

Very good hotel and easy to go with thai taxi 10 thb , only 10 minutes to Royal garden. The penthouse are very nice and quiet but there is only our room renter on 7 rooms, I will scared if have many people about noise ... and some customers come for drinks on the 7th floor. It will be perfect if you can close this floor after 10pm, only for penthouse customer !

The beach is only a 5 minute walk away, and convenience stores are just across the street. You can walk to the famous walking street in around 30 minutes (although some of it is uphill), but there are Baht buses or taxis available if you dont fancy the walk. The receptionists were really friendly and helpful, they helped us book an excursion which worked out much cheaper than it would have been elsewhere. The swimming pool is nice and clean, too. Our only complaint would be the food in the restaurant. Unfortunately, we found that breakfast wasn't of great quality or quantity. As our flight got in late, we were both hungry on our first night so decided just to eat in the hotel restaurant which we were not impressed with, either. Food seemed of a low standard and wasnt too nice. Still, that is our only complaint, in an otherwise lovely and comfortable hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

MrMac has been around for many many years. It must have been almost 10 years since I stayed there first time, even though this was the first booking I made with them via agoda (same rate). This means, this is not a new hotel. But I can not remember any hotel of such a category in Thailand (and I see 30-40 hotels every year) that is so well-maintained still after many years. they have been constantly renovating and upgrading their rooms and premises, so you will get a neat, clean room with all facilities you can expect. For such little money you will even have things as a safe, coffee-maker, free and decent-speed Wifi, plus a good mattress. they have a parking space too, in case you bring a car. I like the location half-way between Jomtien and Pattaya Central, so - unlike in heavy traffic - both Centers are just a 5-minute baht-Bus ride (at ten Baht) away. The staff is friendly and will respect your privacy. The hotel is guest-friendly too, if that is important to you. For the price I paid, it is absolutely top-value for money, and even their high-season rates are very reasonable for what you get. just make sure to get a room away from the quite noisy main road (Thap Phraya Road) in case you are a light sleeper (and I am). Oh, and there is no elevator, so if you don't like to climb a staircase after a long night out, get a room on the second floor. Overall, highly recommended

Abricole Pattaya

A bit difficult to find because apparently the building of the hotels name is different, under Pattaya Hill Resort. I stay at 9th floor, quite and my room was very cheap yet comfortable, and VERY wide room. Daily clean up and friendly staff as bonus. Taxi and motorbike rental, easy access, not major problem.

The hotel is extremely low profile and you would be forgiven for mistaking the building for an art gallery. It must have been constructed at a time when space was not a premium in Pattaya. The room space is generous compared to most modern chained-brand hotels and the design, though traditional, is far from being outdated. They just need to make sure that every bulb works and not have to wait for guests to inform the maintenance staff. There are not many hotels that offer buffet breakfast for the kind of room price. The rooms and corridor are squeaky clean and the kitchen staff seem to love their work when buffet breakfast is served. Apart from the convenience of Family Mart that is adjacent to the hotel, you know you are in safe hands with the best pharmacy just beside the hotel. After a while, you wonder why would anyone need to see a doctor when a pharmacist in Thailand can apparently do a better job? And cheaper too !

Excellent Hotel. Great staff. Nice pool, well maintained. It's a bit far from all the action, up the Phra tamnak hill, but you always have a lot of motorbikes plying around, so no issues with that. Would definitely stay again.

I have nothing bad to say about this place. I just wish they kept the price the same when it first opened. They used to price it at $19-21, now it fluctuates between $27-30 dollars... which is still a very good price. I give this place a score of 9.8 out of 10. The score can be a 10 if they keep the price around $19-21 dollars a night.

Well what do I say about this place It is located on the left hand side of Soi 5 as you go down the hill & not as shown on google maps. I’ll start with our arrival. Arrived around 8pm & met by a friendly member of staff who booked us into room 7 on the second floor. By the way, there is no lift in this place. Everything looked OK so nothing more to report. The second day started OK but we noticed a bad smell coming from the bathroom. Drains seemed to be the problem, so off to reception to complain about it. Not a problem they moved us to room 8. Great No smell. ( I noticed that room 7 was available the following day with no work done on the drain smell) I thought the new room OK but my girlfriend didn’t think it was that clean. She pointed out hair behind the sink in the bathroom & a little dust under the bed. The only thing I didn’t like was that the bathroom floor remained wet after taking a shower, The bathroom is a wet room with the floor having little or no drop to the drain. The location is just fine. About 200mts from the beach. It has its own Bars & Restaurant which seemed very popular. There are many more bars on both sides of the road. Staff where very friendly & helpful. I would say, it’s good value for money but just needs a few things sorting out. It is listed as a Guest house and not a Hotel. I think its a guest house trying to be a hotel. But I think standards should be just as high, no matter what it’s called. So would I use this place again. Yes is the answer. All I can say is give it a try & make up your own mind. It’s not that bad. It’s a lot better than some hotels in the area.

We booked on thee Beach Terrace but due to too many mosquitos, we paid some extra amount and upgrade to Seaview plus at Royal Cliff Grand Hotel, it's the tallest building around.

Stayed there 3 nights for babymoon, and it's not enough. I love this hotel and its facilities.

First of all, this hotel accepts chinese tourist by bus loads, so if you can’t take that then this hotel is not for you. Reached the hotel around 3pm and was told my room was not ready due to late checkout of previous customers.

If you are looking for your location for Pattaya vacation, your search ends here. The resort is located next to the beach and have 3 different swimming pool. The rooms are specious and super-clean.

I booked the Citrus Park Hotel for 1 week in March this year. Then extended another 6 days it was that good. The hotel is very very clean and hygienic. The price was excellent for room and breakfast!

This is one of the old-style smaller hotels, probably the best hotel in Pattaya before the big hotel chains moved in.

There is a 7/11 within 2 minutes walking distance and restaurants, ATMs and taxi stand all within 5 minutes. Walking street and beach road are a 5-7 min taxi ride. The hotel did their best to speak English and cater to us in any way possible. We had breakfast at the hotel twice, it's catered more towards the European crowd and wasn't really our taste. Overall we had an amazing sty and would return! (We stayed as a couple with no children)

Was more than happy with this hotel. Yes, out of the way from Pattaya. But when you think about it, you are right in the middle of Pattaya and Jomiten Beach. Quit, very safe !! More so than Pattaya. They rent motobikes for you to get around. Mostly Euro Guest. The Manager more than helpful. The rooms were amazing, modern and large.

The cleanliness of the toilet could be improved, there was a stench coming out from the toilet and was discomforting but the smell was gone when I was inside the toilet. The toilet looks old and could be improved and please oh please improve the pressure of the shower cause very little water was coming out of it. Overall the price I paid for staying here was worth it and I got a balcony too! Lastly, the service of the staff was great! Very friendly and professional.

The villa is spacious and comfortable. Two queen size bed rooms with private toilet in each room, one jacuzzi. The shared pool is large enough for 5-8 people with kid level pool. I would recommend to other and return again if I have a chance. However, it more suitable for people with a car to travel around, and the car park was limited only 6 cars (but you can park outside on the street in front of villa).

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few days in June 2011. We thought the hotel was lovely and we got the room for a great price.

I have stayed at Sansuk majority of my visits to pattaya ,the owner punya and his friendly attentive staff are very welcoming and always has a smile for customers ,who I must say most of them have worked there for years which in my view points to a good boss and good working conditions for his staff ,the reception staff was very friendly and had very good standard of English ,the rooms are big very clean and comfortable ,the pool ,jacuzzi are set in beautiful surrounds and the flowers and trees are well maintained ,in fact whenever a flower dropped into the pool it was fished out immediately ,I personally would have liked to swim with the white blossoms floating around ,the gym is very adequate and you can watch the handsome young Thais work out from the pool area ,there are several saunas and steam room that are clean ,the massage service is very good with very experienced mashers at good prices ,the location is great halfway between pattaya town and jomtien ,a yuk tuk ride to either is only 10 baht ,Sansuk provides a free tuk tuk service from the main road to Sansuk and back ,otherwise it's depending on your pace takes less than ten minutes to walk down to Sansuk ,if I could rate this accommodation owner and staff myself I give it 10/10 ,

This is a very new and very fresh hotel. Reception staff are great and very friendly. Cleaning staff are very nice and clean the rooms perfectly. Everything is perect.

Really enjoyed staying here, the beach is 1 min walk away, there's a 7 11 around the corner, there are many places to eat (highly recommend the italian place on the same road), the beach cannot be compared to Southern Thailand beaches but is enjoyable enough, short walk to Jomtien beach and about 30 min walk to Pattaya South and Walking street for a night out in that area. Wonderful!

Extremely friendly and helpful staff at this place — you really can't do much better in the Jomtien area. Not a long ride from the beach — located just between South Pattaya and Jomtien on Pra Tumnak. The room is very clean, breakfast is average, but included in a cheap price. Pool is very clean, and if you like sun, there's plenty of sun hitting the pool. Keep your bathroom door closed, because the smell does get pretty strong, but that's a pretty common issue in Thailand — sewer gasses come in from time to time (some days are better than others). Overall, what makes this place amazing is the staff and the owner. Really sweet people. They won me over, and i'll be back! :)

The name of the hotel is actually New Nordic Family residences. Its like a community of several 'New Nordic'. If you book here, be sure to know which one you will go to. We stayed at the Marcus and it was a really nice place. Great value for money, very pleasant staff, free shuttle ride to nearby locations, buffet breakfast, nearby spa and restaurant and I think they even have a tour package. This place caters to mostly caucasians as we have observed. Overall we had a great stay. A special shoutout to Max and Pong for their hospitality and great personality:)

Reached the hotel around 3pm and was told my room was not ready due to late checkout of previous customers.
