We use a handicapping systems that favours learners and we run race series specifically to help those with limited experience to get involved.

You should check your insurance includes club racing ( many boat insurance policies do as standard ).

Also check your onboard safety equipment complies with the BMYC Safety Regulations ( it probably does ).

So what's stopping you..?

Interested in Crewing..? We can Help You

If you're interested in taking part in racing as a member of a boat's crew you are very welcome to join us

We race every Sunday morning throughout the year, and one evening each week between April and August. To gain more from your experience:

  • Read the Notice of Race (NOR) to confirm when, what time, and where
  • The Sailing Instructions (Sis) provides an overview of our competition rules, they might appear daunting but just ask and we can help.
  • As you gain experience you might want to spend a little time brushing up on the Racing Rules of Sailing. The key rules to observe are 'when boats meet', these are not very different to the ' Colregs ' and again just ask

We look forward to seeing you on the water..!

The new home for Brighton Marina Yacht Club (BMYC) was towed into its mooring position following an eight-hour journey from one side of the marina to the other on 30 July.

It is now being fitted out ready to open for members and guests in September, when BMYC is also running a new series of its Club Class introduction to yacht racing sessions.

BMYC had to leave its current premises as redevelopment of the marina accelerates.

Its new home is the result of collaboration between Brunswick Developments (who, as part of the new 850 apartment, Outer Harbour Marina Development, funded the construction and provided the building for the yacht club), Intermarine (who have engineered and built the new clubhouse and its innovative floating platform) and Premier Marinas (who have provided its permanent mooring adjacent the Marina boardwalk).

BMYC Commodore Phil Thomas said: ‘Hot on the heels of the opening Americas Cup weekend, interest in sailing is on a high and we’re her to help anyone who wants to get on the water to do so affordably.

‘Brunswick Developments commitment to bringing this fabulous building to life is commendable, and Intermarine has pulled out all the stops to make it happen technically.’

Peter Green, who is directing the current works at the marina for Brunswick Developments said: ‘The new yacht club shows how large developments such as ours can have community benefits.

‘We went above and beyond our legal obligation to provide space for a new yacht club, and provided a purpose-built unit located in the very heart of the marina. We are also providing a new RNLI station, providing new buildings at the very heart of regeneration enhancing the architecture of the marina and creating new opportunities for both the Club and the Marina itself’.

The wave design of the building was conceived by club member and local architect Stewart Henton. Aided by international interior designer Cary Terlezki, the club is now putting the finishing touches to the facility and it will be ready to welcome new and old members next month.

Phil Thomas, commodore at Brighton Marina Yacht Club, said: “We’re here to help anyone who wants to get on the water to do so affordably.”

The new yacht club was delivered as part of a £250m redevelopment of the marina by Brunswick Developments, which has owned the site since the mid 1990s.

Works on the western end of the marina were held up for several years by planning disputes, financial issues and local protests, but finally got underway last year.

Peter Green, who is directing the current works at the marina for Brunswick Developments said: “The new Yacht Club shows how large developments such as ours can have community benefits.

Brighton Marina Yacht Club

Brighton Marina Yacht Club

Brighton Marina Yacht Club (BMYC) is located on the South coast of England, at the Eastern edge of the vibrant city of Brighton. Founded in 1978, the club has a thriving membership that welcomes sailors, motor cruisers, and other seafarers, as well as those who appreciate the sea in any form.

The club is known for organising yacht races throughout the year. Races take place every Sunday, as well as Wednesday evenings in the Summer. In addition to racing, BMYC also offers regular sail cruising programmes and a variety of lively social events.

Visiting boat people are warmly welcomed at BMYC. The club boasts a comfortable and relaxed bar, where members and visitors can enjoy a meal and a drink while taking in the stunning waterside views.

BMYC is proud to announce its recent successful annual event, the Laying Up Supper. Held on the 4th of November, this event attracted a great turnout, and attendees enjoyed a wonderful evening. The event also saw the presentation of new perpetual trophies for cruising, including the Cruiser of the Year awards in the Sail and Motor categories.

Another recent highlight was the Autumn Regatta, which took place over a weekend in September. Despite the changeable weather, with a range from sunny summer days to autumnal conditions, the regatta was a success. There were six races over the two days, with participation from both Racer-Racing and Cruiser-Racing classes. A BBQ on the terrace and live music added to the festive atmosphere.

BMYC's cruising fleet embarked on a visit to Eastbourne for the airshow. Although the weather was initially challenging, 14 out of 19 boats successfully navigated the conditions. The fleet anchored in a perfect position to witness the airshow, with the planes banking directly overhead.

This year's Solent rally was another highlight for BMYC. A fleet from Brighton visited various destinations, including Yarmouth, Lymington, Cowes, Swanwick, and Chichester. New havens and hostelries were discovered along the way, adding to the sense of adventure and exploration.

Upcoming events at BMYC include the Frostbite Series races, offering a thrilling opportunity for sailors to compete. The club also offers shore-based training for those looking to enhance their skills and knowledge.

For those looking to connect with other sailors and boat enthusiasts, BMYC provides a Crew Finder service. Additionally, there are opportunities for crew members to join boats in need.

Brighton Marina Yacht Club is easily accessible, offering a picturesque location on the coast. With its welcoming atmosphere, exciting events, and beautiful surroundings, BMYC is the perfect social and sailing club for individuals who share a love for the sea.
