I am now looking at a 1994 Hunter 26 W B boat to buy... I would like to hear your thoughts on this sailboat. I also have spent about an hour trying to find out its weight with the trailer so I can tow the thing... My Jeep Cherokee has a 5000 lb rating with a 4.o Liter 6 cylinder. I sail rivers, the NJ coast and the Chesapeake. I currently own a Macgregor 25 with a swing keel. I like the shallow draft these type of boats will provide. All the good and bad about comments are welcomed. I was also looking at a Mac 26x and a Catalina 25 WB. My friend suggests a shallow draft too. I want to trailer it and a keel boat up on a trailer must be a problem to launch and retrieve. I like to sail and not run aground or be limited to where I can go. Beaching a keel boat? Unless it's a Hake or Southerly or another swing keel boat beaching is impossible. I know that a lot of mono hull owners do not like the water ballasted boats but I haven't heard any real complaints that have a valid reason to avoid a w b boat. Thanks in advance for your reply...

Bruce, I don't know the 26 Hunter you are looking at but I have owned a Mac26S and a Hunter 260, both water ballasted boats. I liked both of them and found they sailed very well. I trailered them all over, as much as 1800 miles one way. I lived on the Hunter for over 2 months while cruising down the Florida east coast and Keys. I liked the Hunter very much it was 2005. It was heavy to tow and I used a full sized 4x4 pickup truck, and was glad I did not have anything smaller. If you pose questions on the trailer sailors forums you may get more reply's from those with experience with these boats. good luck, Bob

Bruce... I would highly recommend reading George's site cover to cover at: http://kobernus.com/hunter260/index.html Although it is dedicated to the H260, there are several comments on the H26 directly and almost everything within the pages applies. I had an H26 for 5 years and was extremely happy with it. Sailed very well and, with the proper mods and upgrades, was very comfortable at anchor. Our longest journey was 17 days through Desolation Sound in BC and she served us well. The soundness of that boat led us to our present H340. I would think that your GVWR of 5000 pounds will be a little light. George's site will show you a trailer/boat weight of nearly 6000 pounds dry. Good luck in your search.

I tow my fully loaded H260 with a Jeep Cherokee. My marina is about 60 miles of country road away. Never had a problem.

I previously owned a Mac 25, and moved up to a Hunter 26, also a 1994. First, I will say the Hunter 26 is the most wonderful boat I have owned, and probablly the best I will ever own. It sailed very nicely, had lots of cabin space, a real enclosed head with sink, a workable galley, a nice queen size bed for the captain and first mate, and enough sleeping space for out 3 grandchildren. It is a great boat. I towed it with a Jeep Liberty, also rated for 5000 lb, and it was not great, but adequate. It probably is no harder to rig to sail, or get back on the Trailer, than the Mac 25. I felt the Mac 25 and the Hunter 26 were about equally tender, or stiff, if anything I thought the Hunter might be a biit stiffer than the Mac 25. If you can afford it, I would easily choose the Hunter over the Mac, you won't regret it.

I will also say that shallow draft is very important to me. If I had deep water I would go with a keelboat. All boats are a compromise, the H26 is a great shallow draft, trailer boat.

Towing questions We towed our H26 with a succession of Full Size SUVs - Expedition, Suburban, Avalanche. None of those vehicles ever felt challenged by towing the boat, in fact it trailers pretty well. The full load displacement was supposed to be 5100 lbs., with ballast drained it is lighter. I honestly think you might be pushing it with the Cherokee. We towed our H23.5 with a 2 door 95 Blazer with a 4.3 V6. The Blazer didn't lack for power, but the short wheelbase and brakes seemed challenged.

Crazy Dave Condon

Bruce; The dry wieght of the boat only is appx. 3000 pounds. with the wieght of the trailer and motor and gear, it can be anywhere from 4500 to 5000 but again motor and gear will make the final determination. You probably have brakes on one axle. Before towing, make sure the brakes and lights work properly. After 20 miles, pull over and check the tie downs. The 260 is basically the 26 except the design of the cockpit allows for installation of wheel steering and easier axcess ont the boat. In addition, the forward hatch is different. Otherwise pretty much the same. One other thing on the tie down strap on the back. get the 2inch width and twist the strap a few times on the side to keep it from slapping against the hull. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me at [email protected] as I know the boats too well. Crazy Dave Condon

Charisma

Crazy Dave, that is a great idea about twisting the tie down straps. Always learning something new here. Thanks Chris

You are welcom Chris. I even have a better one. Launching a Hunter 33 with the mast up off a trailer behind my dooley and pulling it out or better yet, launching a Hunter 320 with mast up with a crane over a bridge 40 feet down into a lake. feel free to contact me anytime my friend. crazy dave condon

It is good to see that Crazy Dave has returned to the forums and is sharing his expertise. He served us well when we had a 260 and continues to keep in touch after we got 12foot-itis and we bought "Carolina" from him in 2005.

The Top 15 Most Unforgettable Airbnbs in Miami

We’ve done the research to lay out the very best Airbnbs in Miami. On this list, you’ll find everything from a charming cottage to a stylish condo.

hunter 26 sailboat airbnb

Miami, Florida is famous worldwide for its gorgeous beaches, high-rise condos, and superhot nightlife. As a full-time traveler, whenever I tell someone I am from the United States, their next remark is often, “Oh, I want to go to Miami.” It blows my mind how many times I have heard this statement across the world. Miami draws ‘em in. She’s an attention grabber! The Magic City has a vibrant culture, with a distinctly Latin flair, awesome eats, and some pretty incredible vacation rentals too!

In this travel guide, we have gathered all the most unique and unforgettable Airbnbs in Miami for you and your crew. Whether you want a condo with a beachfront address or a cottage in Little Havana, we have lined up the best of them. Airbnb has had an upgrade recently, let’s take a look at the new platform and how we chose our favorites!

Explore the Magic City with Let’s Roam!

We might have a little crush on the place, seeing as we have developed several scavenger hunts in Miami and the surrounding area. Whether you want to explore the Latin Culture in Brickell , peruse urban art downtown , or prance through Miami Beach , we have you covered with an interactive and competitive tour. Download our app and get to exploring!

Why We Love Airbnb

Airbnb provides travelers with almost unlimited choices. What started as a company that rented our air mattresses in someone’s living room has grown into a platform featuring millions of vacation rentals, of every type, in almost every country in the world. Private hosts offer thoughtful personal touches, homey spaces, and local travel advice for the same (or lower) price than a typical hotel. Some of these touches can save you major bucks! If you have a dedicated workspace, then you don’t need to spend time and money hunting for the perfect coffee shop or communal workspace. When your vacation rental comes with a full kitchen, then you save big money on restaurant bills. If they offer free bikes, you save on Uber fees. You get the gist!

Pro Tip: Know yourself and your needs! If you are an adventure lover with a packed vacation itinerary, then don’t get lured into the most beautiful suite on the platform, you aren’t going to spend time there. If vacation means momma isn’t cooking, then don’t spend extra on an apartment with a full kitchen. It’s a waste, and your money will be better spent at the local cantina.

Airbnb Has Gotten a Makeover

Airbnb has a brand-spanking-new look! The new platform is user-friendly, and they have added categories and filters to help you find the perfect property—without searching hundreds of places that don’t fit the bill. Just click on one of the new category buttons on the home page, such as OMG!, tiny homes, treehouses, or yurts. Then, open the “filters” section and narrow down your choices by amenities that matter to you. For instance, search only homes with three bedrooms, a swimming pool, a hot tub, high-speed WiFi, or just about anything else on your wishlist.

The new platform has added three quality categories as well:

Airbnb Plus

This category includes only homes that have been inspected in person and are verified to have the highest quality and design standards.

Airbnb Luxe

According to Airbnb, their Luxury Retreats include “A selection of pristine, expertly designed homes with high-end amenities, services, and dedicated trip designers.” These come with a big price tag, but they are equal in quality and service to the best all-inclusive resorts.

The host of your Airbnb is important! You want someone who is trustworthy! Superhosts are verified every three months to have excellent ratings, low cancellation rates, high response rates, and more than ten stays.

How to Choose the Best

There is a tactic to find the best properties on Airbnb. For this guide, we only featured homes listed by Airbnb Superhosts. Superhosts are routinely evaluated by the platform and get excellent reviews about their property and hospitality, so you can be confident in your choice. We also only listed homes with a guest rating of 4.9 out of 5 or higher (save a couple of new listings). Guests often meet the host and develop a personal report on Airbnb. This affects the reviewing process, as guests don’t want to hurt the host‘s feelings or make it personal. So we have taken only the highest reviews.

Pro Tip: When you are searching for properties, make sure that the home has enough reviews for the score to have meaning. A 4.85 with 2,000 reviews may be a better property than a 5-star with 10 reviews. We all know that you just can’t please some people!

Practical Note: Prices on Airbnb often vary by the number of guests, the length of stay, and the day of the week you choose to stay. We have set the parameters for two guests to stay for one week. Most hosts offer substantial discounts for staying a full week. Airbnb also charges a service fee, and some hosts charge cleaning fees. Be sure to double-check the final amount before you finalize your stay!

Being that the Casa Havana Historic House is located in the heart of Miami, there are several restaurants and bars that are within walking distance.

The Current Penthouse boasts amazing amenities and even better views

glass modern staircase ocean views

Hovering over Miami's exclusive North Bay Village, the Current Penthouse is one of the most lavish and luxurious Airbnb options in the entire city. According to the listing on Airbnb , the Current Penthouse is a two-story accommodation that boasts breathtaking ocean views from nearly every part of the property. With more than 5,000 square feet of space, the Current Penthouse can accommodate up to 10 people, making this a wonderful option for a group or special occasion. From the sky-high ceilings to the massive glass windows that allow you to feel connected to the ocean even from the interior of the house, this rental truly is one-of-a-kind.

While the majority of the interior is very modern and contemporary, with an abundance of cool tones and minimalistic décor, there is nothing quite as mind-blowing as the floating staircase. Enjoy uninterrupted views as you ascend upstairs where you'll find access to a large terrace that offers front-row seating for sunset or sunrise. Though amazing restaurants and nightlife are only a short drive away, convincing yourself to leave this rental might be more difficult than you expect.

Indulge in an upscale visit at this luxurious Miami home

green roof and blue-framed door

While staying in a more traditional house might not be the norm when visiting Miami, this two-bedroom home near the city's Design District gives guests a true taste of Miami while still offering them some space and privacy, per the  Airbnb listing . If going out to the bars and clubs is not at the top of your list, this luxurious and upscale home provides a more peaceful and low key-stay in this otherwise busy city. Having been renovated, this mid-century-inspired home has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, making it a great place for a group of four to call home base during their travels.

In addition to a beautiful and inviting interior that has a lot of neutral tones and calming art, this rental also has a huge private patio and garden , meaning you can catch a glimpse of that fresh Miami breeze without even having to venture off the property. Some fun highlights in regards to the décor include a palm tree-shaped lamp, beach-inspired artwork, and velvet blue barstools in the kitchen.

Chill by the pool at this bright Miami bungalow

small white bungalow surrounded by greenery

Plus, you'll most likely want to walk to all of the surrounding restaurants and cafes rather than stay at home for your meals.

One of the most beloved amenities at this rental is definitely the on-site pool that is surrounded by bright green, lush vegetation, creating a tropical and serene setting. Take a dip or lay out on one of the lounge chairs and catch up on a good book while soaking in some sun. The exterior of the house also has some fun and funky lights as well as a quirky "Hotel" sign that adds to the retro aesthetic.

Though the neighborhood is very quiet and low-key, guests are able to simply walk a couple of blocks over to Calle Ocho for some amazing bars, restaurants, and Cuban-inspired cafes. Since it is a studio, the space is definitely limited inside, but it is made to be totally cozy with bright walls and simple décor. In the evenings, enjoy a drink under the twinkling string lights on the patio before heading out for a fun night on the town. Keep in mind that the rental has no TV, meaning you'll want to take advantage of other activities to occupy your time.
