Catamaran Big Nauti Sleeps 8 Guests 4 Cabins Book her Now! Click here for 3 minute catamaran Video

Captain Dillon’s favorite anchorage is selecting foot-print free beaches, collecting sea shells or watching his guests what the wish to do, be it tubing, snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding or just relaxing on board with a book. I want my guest to see those pastel colored shops under coconut palms, or uninhabited islands. I love Beneuers Bay because it is out-of-the-way, yet close to the pirate caves. The Trunk Bay coconut lined beach is just pe3fecft for adults and children, so close to the famous Baths. Both Amanda and myself love children so bring the kids to enjoy the Virgin Islands as well. Come and have fun on board Big Nauti

Captain Dillon was a scuba dive guide for ther Albeuquerque Aquarium as well as a scuba dive guide in Kona, Hawaii. The love for sailing grabbed his heart, so he got his captains license. He loves being the captain of BIG NAUTI. Chef Amanda has been a traveling lady and Europe was where her heart was until she met Dillon, Samanda is a major in Biology and Anthropo;ogy of Cal State University. Her cooking has always been a very big interest and she excelled in Hawii, this remains her contact with guests, by showing guests her cuisine skills. Expect 5 star serfvice and attention during yoiur vqacation on board BIG NAUTI.

Here are the major reasons why Big Nauti is todays top high-end, well priced luxury catamaran. 1 fold-away wall No more trampoline. A large sky lounge, for sunsets and happy hours. Walk around beds for your comfort.

Amanda majored in Biology of Anthropology at Cal State University where she had the opportunity to travel to India with the Himalayan Health Exchange. Her appreciation for cooking creative and colorful dishes was born from her Himalayan trip cooking alongside the locals.

As a team, Dillon and Amanda deliver the perfect combination of 5-star customer service, the warmth and hospitality of a family member and a wealth of knowledge that both ocean and sailing lovers can appreciate. Lastly, this crew loves children and they enjoy any opportunity that allows them to initiate and join in on playtime. For families bringing kids aboard, look no further than this team to bring the vacation of a lifetime to you and your children!

Catamaran Callista Sleeps 10 Guests 5 Cabins Book her Now! Click here for 3 minute catamaran Video

Captain Rolands’s favorite anchorage is Long Bay Virgin Gorda, he anchors in shallow water then reverses and ties off the rear to a huge round boulder on the beach. The guests' view from here is magnificent, you look across 25 miles down west to St Thomas, United States Virgin Islands and all around you see islands on the horizon. During the day this is gorgeous, early evenings it is better and at night it is calm spectacular, yes now you know “you are” in paradise.

Captain Roland’s favorite snorkeling is around the famous Indians and the Pirate Caves. Snorkeling around the Indians is a unique experience because you are snorkeling around a pinnacle where the seabed is 50-70 feet deep. In a large round push up is this pinnacle of rock covered, from the bottom, in various types of plate coral leading up to various soft colored corals. Rainbow colored fish abound doing their daily work, a flamingo tongue is locked onto a soft purple coral leaf. The water is crystal clear so you can see for at least 70 feet in all directions. This is one snorkel experience that no guest forgets. The Pirates Caves are very different to other snorkeling areas because you can swim into the heart of the caves, turn around and swim from the dark clear shadowed water back into the bright sun light.

Roland & Vanessa

Cap tain Roland and Vanessa have set new standards in our industry. This captain and chef team are what we feel are the top crew in our industry. Our guests are welcomed with Ice cold hand towels to cool down as they board Callista.

Captain Roland and Vanessa are both practiced sommeliers. Guests enjoy the very best attention at all levels while on board. Here is a crew who feel that casual T-shirt does not fit professional service and at the same time they are Charming, friendly, polite and most professional. All of us know well that it is our captain and chef on board our catamaran that sets the tone for your vacation. We rank Captain Roland and chef Vanessa as one of our industry's top captains and crew teams today. While Dillon is serious about his profession, his happy smile does enchant guests. Here is a man who is a consummate professional, who thinks before he speaks. Chef Vanessa is the lady of character and power behind this successful couple, she smiles easily and is bright beyond her years. We are exceptionally proud to represent such a top crew team

Our favourite anchorages are...Tortola, British Virgin Islands: Virgin Gorda, The Baths, Bitter End Yacht Club, Eustatia Sound, Cane Garden Bay, Foxy’s, Jost van Dyke, Soggy Dollar Bar. These are some of the places Captain Jim and his crewed catamaran can take guests to visit. Pastel coloured buildings between coconut palms to do shopping, Peter Island for spa treatments.

I have personally know Captain Jim and Lisa since 1994 and booked them many time. Jim and Lisa have always owned & chartered motor yachts. 2018 is their first sailing catamaran and we know they will do well.

Charming, fun, friendly and smart, these folks are attentive. Your captain Jim sets the standard on board Eclipse. Lisa is one of the top chefs around, so your every request can be answered. Catamaran Sail Away 62 Feet. Sleeps 10 Guests in 5 cabins Book her Now !

Our favorite location is the famous Baths with their 40 foot high round boulders half in half out of the water and stacked on top of each other. A walk to devil's bay is a must.

Then we love White Bay Peter Island, if clients want that out of the way Anchorage. We do find that all guests love the Bitter End Yacht Club as well as Marina Cay.

Leon & Wendy Sail Away

Catamaran SeaHome 62 Feet. Sleeps 10 Guests in 5 cabins Book her Now !

My favorite anchorages are: The bubbling pool, Green Cay and Sandy cay, All three are close to Foxy’s, White Bay and Cane Garden Bay. Marina Cay is a must do anchorage, for the folks who want out-of-the-way. I make an effort to get to Muskmelon Bay on Guana Island. Then one of my favorite spots is 200 yards east of the Bitter End Yacht Club is Coulequan Barrier reef, where 95% of guests snorkely on the inside. My guests are guided by myself to snorkel on the outside of this barrier reef. It is here where you can see 80 feet in all directions, it is here that guests see all the fish, crustaceans, corals, hard and soft, because it is here that the nutrients feeding the reef, come from the deep blue sea. You want a very special charter then call Andrew 954-720-0475.

Captain Brand: has that effervescent personality and he can host the most discreet charter. He does like to interact with guests and has a few secret spots where he can take his guests for sundowners.   Scuba diving, snorkeling, and all water sports is his love, plus he is a patient enthusiastic teacher. Do not be surprised if you find yourself kite surfing, trimming the sails, free diving, Brand inspires confidence which is an in grown natural talent.  Captain Brand aims to make each and everyday remarkable for his guests.

Chef Jayde: This talented lady grew up on a farm in Southern Africa surrounded by animals amidst the tranquil beauty of nature.  Jade has cherished memories of her grand mother in the kitchen, learning cooking tips, tricks and family recipes. Guest enjoy special gourmet touches that make cuisine very special and this is the art Jade excels in. She likes to do special diets.  Both love children and both do not smoke.

Ana Graziosi: is the stewardess on board and a good one, who’s job it is to take the weight off the shoulders of Chef Jayde.

Our favorite anchorages are Marina Cay and Cam Bay , with out of the way anchorages like Muskmelon Bay on Guana Island . Guests are normally the only folks in this entire anchorage, and we have others, such as The Arena off of Fallen Jerusalem. Cooper Island is another magnificent location encrusted with coconut palms on a white beach.

Taylor and Denise

Taylor is  a very special man and Denise also a very special lady both know that top service for their clients is the one and only way to do their job right. Both are well groomed for their positions. Denise and award winning chef was born in Brazil and her cuisine influence is from Brazil, Portugal, Italy and Spain. Catamaran Breanker 57 Feet. Sleeps 8 Guests in 4 equal cabins - Best value for your dollar Book her Now ! Breanker - 3 minute Video

Our favorite anchorage is Little Harbor on Peter Island. This section of Peter Island is uninhabited but guests and crews love Little Harbor because it is possibly the most protected of all the anchorages.

The island is volcanic so it stretches high into the clouds and thus give magnificent protection even on a blistery day. White caps can dance on top of the surface of where all of us normally sail each day but Little harbor will be dead calm with not a whiff of wind touching the glassy surface of this calm anchorage. Many guests have asked to stay here for two days so we do so.

Kristiann anchors Breanker in 4 foot of water and then we reverse very close to the shore and tie the rear to a tree on shore. This means we can clearly see the fish below us, the water is super clear. Sleeping at night means no land based band music is heard, it is exceptionally quiet at night. This anchorage is perfect for Stand up paddle boards, kayaks and all our water sports.

Kristiann and Marianne have been chartering for 23 years now and 60% of their guests are repeating directly with them.

Breanker's Crew

Captain Kristiann is a top professional and charming gentleman who has been a dear friend for many years (21 years). I have a special Breanker reef I like to take my clients to when scuba diving, it is off the anchorage named Little harbor and very few people know of this one.

Marianne is also a longtime friend and again Charming and professional, you can view both on their 3 minute video below. Marianne's favorite meal to serve her guests is her Breanker Pan Seared Tuna, this comes with Couscous, Wasabi and Fried Plantains, yellow red and green peppers add flavor to her special Breanker Tuna. Marianne can do any international dish, she is Danish and spent many years cooking on the other side of the globe.

ANDREW'S detailed NOTES on the Top 10 catamarans.

The list of top ten catamarans is a cross section of high-end luxury catamarans to suit catamaran charter guests in all price ranges (within reason). These top 10 catamarans are head and shoulders above the others and priced the same as all other catamarans in each different class.

This has provided a few problems; take, for instance, Callista abd Breanker. CAllista is brand new with all the lastest features. Breanker is a 1992 model in wonderful condition. Breankers weekly rate is far lower yet she more than comfortable inside and out.

In the past year, 2018, we have also seen some super wonderful BVI catamarans enter our industry with the new fly bridge area on top, first seen on Akasha and her modern design.

Generally, on all catamarans, there is a 3-foot walkway from the back to the front of the catamaran on the deck level. None of this on Zingara; access to the front is done via a staircase in the cockpit area to allow the extra 6 feet of useable space inside the catamaran, creating the now popular fly-bridge featured on almost every new catamaran manufactured over 55 feet today. Some companies have not added this feature.

Your ULTIMATE VACATION awaits you

To appreciate the magnitude of the catamaran yacht charter explosion, enjoy a few figures: In 1990, one term (one week stay aboard) catamaran was working in Tortola, British Virgin Islands (Splendidum-run by Andrew and Gaile Buys); some 20 years later, we count 108 term BVI catamarans based in the Virgin Islands.

What has made these vessels so popular? Women are now keen to enjoy a catamaran sailing vacation; today, half of Barrington-Hall’s inquiries come from women. Why? Comfort, Stability and Space. Our woman and children love catamarans. No catamarans heel over when sailing, they are stable when sailing and at anchorage, so much so it feels as if you are on land at night.

All cabins are equal queen-sized, and all 4 cabins have private toilets, private showers and wash basins. Guest are now demanding walk around beds and Fly-Bridges, m.m.m. how the industry changes. The catamaran sailing market, once 7% of the North American population, has now expanded to 16% of vacationers. WHY? Because for the first time this high-end luxury vacation appeals to the women. No longer a camping trip, the modern catamaran charter offers value never found at top resorts and hotels. These high-end luxury catamarans are now found in Greece, the French Riviera, the Caribbean and a few in the Bahamas.

What is a Caribbean catamaran vacation? The realization of complete freedom. Your ultimate experience, ultimate hospitality, ultimate privacy, ultimate comfort and most important of all is bonding with friends, ultimate family bonding, ultimate corporate bonding with staff, or rewarding top earners; a catamaran sail does this.

Your Luxury Caribbean catamaran vacation awaits you.

Charter a yacht in the BVI's

The British Virgin Islands include Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, and more. There’s no better way to experience the waters and beaches of the BVI's than on a private Caribbean charter with a full crew to pamper you. Of all the islands in the Caribbean, the Virgins are furthest north. This makes them very convenient due to the proximity to San Juan and due to their direct flights from the United States. Catamaran sailing vacations and crewed sailing charters are very popular in the islands, and their protected waters make them a favorite spot for guests that are taking their first private Caribbean yacht charter. To learn more about them:

Charter a yacht in the USVI

The U.S. Virgin Islands consist mainly of the three large islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix, and St. John. With lovely bays, long beaches, lush nature preserves, fabulous diving spots, and excellent, onshore evening entertainment, many choose to vacation in the USVI’s. Caribbean charters often visit both the BVI’s and USVI’s during the same week, as they are close to one another and the waters are generally calmer than in other parts of the Caribbean. They in general are also home to the largest fleet of crewed, all-inclusive, luxury catamarans. To find out more about them:

Charter a Caribbean yacht

The Leewards are situated in the middle of the Caribbean Island chain. The major airports are located on St. Maarten and Antigua. Due to the English, Dutch, and French influences everywhere you look, they exhibit the best example of cultural sophistication anywhere within the Caribbean. If you are looking to see where the rich and famous go on vacation, you will want to visit the island of St. Barts; for many this is a must stop for a Caribbean yacht charter. Many mega yachts are available for rental in St. Maarten, as it has become a popular mega yacht Caribbean base for the winter. To learn more about the Leewards:

Grenadines

The Grenadines are also called The Windward Islands. Oftentimes our guests will choose a sailing charter over a motor yacht when in the Grenadines, due to the more constant tropical breezes that occur. The islands are much less developed than the rest of the Caribbean, and the inhabitants live on their own time schedule, which enhances the feeling of getting away. The northern most island accessible by air is ST. Vincent, while the southern tip’s major airport is on Grenada. There are fewer Caribbean charter yachts based here; however, occasionally some charter yachts are happy to relocate in order to offer a vacation that happens a little off the beaten path. To find out more about the Grenadines:

What Type of Charter Yacht?

There are all types of Caribbean yacht charters available, including mega yachts, power yachts, catamarans, and sailboats. We have helped countless clients choose the right charter yacht, learning what features and amenities make a difference on caribbean charter yachts. Learn more about different types of Caribbean yachts.

Where Can You Go?

Typically you’ll choose between the Virgins, Leewards, and the Grenadines to charter your yacht. Beyond the region, it is your Caribbean to explore. It’s important for you to remember that there is no cruise ship itinerary to worry about! Your itinerary will be custom designed specifically for you, with you, and is flexible to changes during your charter. Caribbean Charters - When To Go.

One of the lovely things about the Caribbean is that the temperatures remain consistent throughout the year; however, there are some other weather considerations that you will want to factor in when making your caribbean yachting vacation plans. Read More....

Vacations here are most popular between November and July.

If you are thinking of a megayacht, you will want to keep in mind that many of these private yachts which are Caribbean based in winter leave in the late spring and early summer months. They will return again in early winter; however, this does limit their availability. To charter a mega yacht, you will want to make sure that you do so well in advance.

Motor, sail, or catamaran yachts, on the other hand, often have selections available year round. Holidays like Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter do need to be planned for as early as possible as these are very popular charter times.

The availability for Caribbean charters can also be affected by the weather in other climates, for instance, when the severity of the weather is bad in the United States or Europe, especially between January and February, the charters are often booked. This is due to many clients looking for a break from the cold.

From full day snorkeling excursions to private sunset cruises plus the best crew, food and drink, we provide a remarkable sailing experience.

Sail and Snorkel

Sunset cruise.

Take in the astounding view of the tropical sun melting in the Caribbean Sea’s horizon. Cruise along the gorgeous waterscape and sip on rum punch, ice cold beer or a non-alcoholic beverage with our open bar.

Sunset Cruises

Private charter.

We provide private tours tailored to your special occasion. Whether a couple’s sail, a family fun day, wedding event or a large group event we can use any of our scheduled tours as a base to create your private experience.

Leeward Islands Charters

We were founded in 1980 when St. Kitts and Nevis was still a mostly undiscovered twin island gem in the Northern chain of islands known as the “Leewards”.

Our fleet currently consists of four boats that take 4 Captains, 13 trained crewmen and an office staff of 5 to manage properly. Our first Catamaran was Caona, who was joined later by our 78ft. maxi-catamaran, Spirit of St. Kitts, then the famous race catamaran Eagle, and finally completing our fleet was our power catamaran Infinity.

Our crew and staff are hand-picked and are trained on safety first and of course then in fun, drinks, food and sailing next. (not necessarily in that order!) Our crew is our family, and some have been part of this family for over 20 years- with 2 of our Captains logging in over 27 years.

Our many positive reviews speak often of the friendliness and knowledge of our crew and Captains and their ability to focus on our passengers having a safe, relaxing, fun and memorable time.

5-Star Experiences

Leeward Islands Charters

My family and I had the time of our lives! There were age ranges from 13-82, and everyone enjoyed it. Beautiful catamaran, incredible crew, perfect amount of time to stop and snorkel in a nice location, good dinner on Nevis, delicious drinks, and relaxing yet exciting trip all together! I can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend!

The captain, Alex, and crew were fabulous! We were catered to and engaged throughout the tour; great music, lots of fun and laughs! They knew exactly where to take us for snorkeling; it was like an aquarium... Highly Recommend!

It was an amazing time! The schedule of the excursion is great. I loved the staff on the catamaran. The snorkeling was a great first event and a nice way to see both islands. Loved the lunch and swim in Nevis. It was a truly relaxing activity. It was the first time I felt like I was on vacation.

We've gone on charter with Leeward before and this trip was just as fun. The crew is accommodating without being pushy. The food and beach spot are very nice and right down from Sunshine's, Turtle Time or Four Seasons, which we took advantage of.

Sailoé is a newcomer to Guadeloupe and a very professional charter company that I highly recommend. They have some very beautiful, very recent and well-maintained catamarans on site. Swimming with dolphins at Grande Anse. Adorable crew (skipper Dany and hostess Nadège) who were extremely tactful and always wanted to please us, both in their choice of anchorages and in the way they adapted the cuisine to our tastes. They both contributed to the success of our holiday and we thank them warmly for that.

Unforgettable vacation! Our rental of the Lagoon 42 will leave us with wonderful memories for a long time – breathtaking landscapes, a comfortable boat, and a paddle that the children enjoyed greatly! I recommend Sailoé 100%.

Thank you to the entire Sailoé team who, throughout our holiday, from preparation to our departure from the base, met all our expectations with diligence and courtesy. The boat was in very good condition, clean and Alexandre's advice was pertinent. As a regular boat charterer for several decades, this week's charter was certainly the one where the service provided was of the highest quality. Many thanks to Sailoé, whom I recommend for your next rentals.

Very nice Cruise in all Inclusive of 15 days. I was the only one who liked the boat, my wife and daughter weren't completely on board... They loved it. Skipper and cook very attentive. We discovered sublime places. Continental and Creole food, fish and lobster on the BBQ. I will come back in 2 years, to leave from the Blue Lagoon base in St Vincent, which is 1h30 away from the Grenadines. Very nice memories and an amazing preparation before our cruise. Thanks to the whole team for these 15 days of dream.

Included: Standard boat inventory and equipment, bed linens, shower towels, fins, mask, and snorkels, dinghy with its motor, fishing rod, and charcoal barbecue.

When you book one of our catamaran cruises, we make sure your experience is as enjoyable as possible. To achieve this, we've included various equipment and amenities in your package so you can fully enjoy your trip in the Caribbean.

The standard boat inventory includes everything you need for a comfortable cruise, from kitchen utensils to safety equipment. You don't have to worry about bringing these basic items as we provide them for you.

For your comfort, we also provide bed linens and shower towels, so you don't need to pack your cabin with linens.

If you're eager to explore the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean, we've also included fins, a mask, and snorkels. You can dive and discover the fascinating marine life of the region.

For your transportation between the boat and nearby beaches or islands, our dinghy equipped with its own motor is at your disposal. It will make it easy for you to access the shore and explore the wonders the Caribbean has to offer.

Not included: Cancellation insurance, landing and mooring taxes on the islands, consumables (diesel, gasoline, water).

We want to ensure that your trip goes smoothly, which is why we would like to inform you about what is not included in your package.

Cancellation insurance is not included, but we strongly encourage you to take out travel insurance that meets your needs and provides peace of mind in case of unexpected events.

Additionally, please note that landing and mooring taxes on the islands are not included in the cruise price. These fees are typically collected by local authorities and may vary depending on the islands you visit.

Regarding consumables such as diesel, gasoline, and water, these costs are not included in the cruise rate and will be at your expense.

Payment methods: We accept payments by bank transfer as well as by credit card. We recommend cardholders to prefer this payment method as it may include additional insurance for your trip. This will allow you to benefit from the protection offered by your credit card in case of cancellation or unforeseen issues during your cruise.

We hope this information helps you better understand what is included in your Caribbean cruise package and what is not. If you have additional questions or specific needs, please feel free to contact us, and we will be delighted to assist you in making your trip unforgettable.

Early check-in: If your flight allows you to arrive at the marina no later than 2:00 PM (allow 20 minutes in Guadeloupe), you can opt for the "early boarding at 2:00 PM." This will allow you to leave the marina before sunset and spend your first night at anchor in Gosier (in Guadeloupe). Our insurance does not cover departures from the marina or anchorages after sunset. Therefore, the handover must start between 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM at the latest with the team: €300.

The best time to go sailing in the Caribbean depends on your preferences for weather conditions and crowds. Generally, there are two main seasons for sailing in the Caribbean: the dry season and the wet season.

Dry Season (High Season): The dry season extends from December to April. It is the most popular time for sailing in the Caribbean due to stable weather conditions, pleasant temperatures, and generally sunny skies. However, because of its popularity, prices can be higher, and destinations may be more crowded.

Wet Season (Low Season): The Wet season runs from June to November, with the peak of hurricane activity typically in August and September. This period carries a risk of storms and tropical cyclones, so it is essential to closely monitor weather forecasts. However, the low season offers advantages such as reduced rates, fewer crowds, and lush landscapes.

The choice of the best time to go sailing in the Caribbean will depend on your personal preferences for weather, budget, and tourist crowds.

Damage waiver insurance, also known as deposit insurance, is an option offered by SAILOÉ.

This insurance is designed to reduce the financial liability of the tenant in case of damages or unforeseen expenses related to the rental property.

Rental with skipper

Insurance Subscription: When you rent a SAILOÉ boat with a skipper, bail bond insurance is mandatory, and it costs 6% of the boat rental amount.

SAILOÉ will reduce the amount of the security deposit you need to pay at the time of the rental. For example, if the initial security deposit is 8000 euros, by subscribing to the insurance, you could reduce this deposit to 1500 euros.

Rental without skipper

It is possible to take out independent insurance:

Pantaenius offers REAL Security Deposit Insurance!

While traditional franchise buyback insurance covers only events at sea (collisions, grounding), Pantaenius's Caution Plus product also covers minor incidents that may occur on board. A lost sunbath, a wine stain on the cushions, clogged toilets... All these minor incidents are now insurable with this new solution (starting from 77.86€ for a security deposit insurance of 1,000€).

In addition to the Security Deposit Insurance, Pantaenius offers, through its Charter Packages (starting from 175.72€), insurance solutions that cover:

Skipper's Liability Insurance (up to 3,000,000€ or 5,000,000€) Trip Cancellation Expenses (up to 40,000€ depending on the package, including in the case of Covid-19), including flight tickets. And depending on the chosen package: Unlimited emergency medical expenses abroad. Personal Accident Insurance (disability capital 150,000€ / death 75,000€). Here is a link where you can subscribe to this insurance.

Ouest Assurances

Franchise Buyback Insurance

Regardless of your country of residence, by purchasing franchise buyback insurance from Ouest Assurances Plaisance, you reduce your risk in the event of a claim.

This coverage applies, during reasonable navigation, to material consequences for the tenant, as a result of clearly defined accidents resulting from external impacts on the vessel, with a fixed or moving body affecting the vessel and being recorded in the ship's log.

Cancellation, Assistance, and Repatriation Insurance

If you are a European resident and are considering a cabin rental or cruise, regardless of the destination, you may not think about unforeseen events that could prevent you from going.

Subscribing to cancellation insurance prevents you from losing the deposits paid for your rental in case you need to cancel due to one of the events covered by the contract affecting you or a family member.

Subscribing to assistance and interruption of stay insurance allows you to implement any assistance justified by a medical issue affecting the designated insured during their cruise.

For more information and the option to subscribe online

E merald Cruises' new Emerald Sakara ship brings guests to smaller ports in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, with an onboard marina and the occasional Bravo-lebrity.

With a couple dozen guests looking on, chef Ben Robinson was showing how to slice and dice a fresh red snapper. “You kind of feel him — but you don’t fondle him,” said Robinson, the fan favorite from the Bravo reality show Below Deck, who’s always ready with a quip. As he pulled a perfect filet off the bone, he explained how to salt the fish and that there’s no more important relationship than the one you have with your fishmonger. “My advice is to always be friendly,” he noted. “I like to support my mom-and-pop [businesses]. If you become familiar with them, they’ll say, ‘Hey, I got this in this morning.’”

The cooking demo, which also featured a ceviche how-to and tips on knife sharpening, was one of many “Chef Ben” moments on my trip aboard Emerald Sakara . It’s the newest 100-passenger vessel from Emerald Cruises, which launched in the fall of 2023, a sibling vessel to the Emerald Azzurra .

During an eight-day voyage in March from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, the reality personality was definitely one of the star attractions. Robinson spent several evenings in the galley, creating special dishes such as a panko-crusted veal striploin stuffed with pesto.

He also hosted a well-attended Q&A about his life in the kitchen — and spent plenty of time connecting with fans, many of whom booked the trip specifically to chop it up with Below Deck alum.

“We definitely booked because of Ben,” said Shannon Welnel , a Montana-based travel advisor who had lots of praise for his cuisine — and the yacht-like atmosphere on board the 100-passenger ship. Other guests I spoke with admitted they hadn’t seen much Below Deck, but were intrigued by the chance to chill with a Bravo-lebrity.

Emerald Sakara

  • With a max of just 100 passengers, Emerald Sakara feels at times like a private yacht, with no lines and no crowds, and outstanding service from a highly experienced crew.
  • Minimalist rooms recall the stripped down aesthetic of Miami Beach or Mykonos, Greece, with pops of color from Missoni Home accents and a sleek-yet-functional bathroom with plenty of storage space.
  • While this small ship has but one restaurant and one poolside cafe, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to meals, whether you’re hitting the breakfast or lunch buffet or choosing from the dinner menu.
  • The onboard marina, which is open in favorable weather conditions, offers watersports and swimming off the stern of the ship.
  • Easy to understand and mostly inclusive pricing covers meals, beverages at mealtime, many tours, and surprisingly speedy Wi-Fi.

The intimate-ship vibe was also one reason the chef wanted to hop aboard. “This definitely has more of a yacht vibe than any other [ship] I've been on,” Robinson told me one afternoon. “A hundred passengers is not a lot,” he said. “I've been on boats with 2,500 passengers, and you really do feel like you're anonymous. But here, the service is great, and you really are treated as an individual and someone important. And you kind of lose that on the big boats.”

While Robinson doesn’t have immediate plans to join another Emerald cruise, he told me that there were plenty of parallels between his life on megayachts and what the Sakara offers its guests. “It’s been incredible,” he said.

I had to agree. The Sakara certainly has much to offer, both in spite of its smaller size and because of it. While it’s available to book by the cabin, like any cruise ship, it still manages to feel at times like a private yacht, particularly when it sails to less-commonly visited ports such as Culebra, on Puerto Rico, or St. Bart’s. In the latter, we dropped anchor near Eric Schmidt’s yacht, Whisper , and had the whole day to explore the glitzy island and its capital, Gustavia. (After a drive around in the morning, I managed to catch the beautiful sunset from the lovely little Shell Beach, right in town.)

“The benefit of being on a small cruise ship like this one is that we can enter small ports and areas where others can’t,” said Robert Kuznin, the captain of Sakara , who previously worked with several cruise lines, including Paul Gauguin, Seabourn, and Virgin Voyages. “For example, when we dropped anchor in Esperanza Bay,” he explained about our stop at the island of Vieques, “there were only two meters under the keel — and that was the shallowest I’ve ever been!”

The ability to go places that larger ships can’t was also on display one morning on St. Kitts, one of the final stops of my trip. It was still early in the morning, but already four mega-ships were docked in Basseterre, the island’s capital. Instead of tying up next to them on the busy cruise pier, we dropped anchor just off the beach in South Friar’s Bay, a long sweep of sand in the island’s southern reaches. There were no crowds to contend with, no paperwork hassles, no touts offering dodgy cab rides. A five-minute tender ride to the beach was all it took to meet our local guide. Time from leaving the breakfast buffet to our first stop? About 25 minutes. Even the most efficient mega-ship would struggle to make that happen — and they can’t drop anchor right off the one of the best beaches on the island.

Other moments aboard Sakara felt like something out of Below Deck . One afternoon, I made my way to the yacht’s marina, a platform at the stern stocked with lounge chairs, refreshments, and water toys such as a floating trampoline and inflatable sea kayaks. I jumped off the stern into the Caribbean and then tried out the ship’s Seabob, a floating gadget that’s like a cross between a Jet Ski and an electric scooter.

As I continued my joy ride, I could see another vessel anchored just north of us. Turns out, it was David Geffen’s private yacht , Rising Sun . Of course, we were there first.

Here’s a closer look at all the amenities of the Emerald Sakara , which sails seasonally in coastal waters in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Staterooms

Welcome to your starship: the stripped down, white-and-gray cabins on Sakara feel sci-fi chic, particularly when the accent lighting is switched on. They’re also, thankfully, spacious and super functional, with ample storage space (including a safe), a small minibar, a coffee station, and a clever headboard built-in that’s a great spot for your charging devices and water bottle. Most of the 50 rooms and suites have verandas; ocean-view staterooms are the exception. Bathrooms are just big enough, with plenty of storage, and are stocked with Espa products and a hair dryer. My cabin, 421, was a 300-square-foot balcony suite toward the aft of the ship on deck four: I never once heard noise from the surrounding cabins or in the hallway, though I did occasionally notice sounds and vibrations from the vessel, something that is common on even the largest of ships. A note on power plugs: my stateroom had U.S.-style outlets throughout as well as USB-A charging ports on either side of the bed, a nice touch.

Bars and Restaurants

Because Sakara is smaller than most cruise ships, it can’t compete on sheer volume of bars and restaurants. Still, the food on board is solid. La Cucina is the only true dining room, with both indoor and outdoor seating; it has somewhat limited hours compared to the round-the-clock dining options on bigger vessels. That being said, I certainly didn’t go hungry: a breakfast buffet is complemented by traditional à la minute options such as omelets and pancakes; lunch is also buffet style with a carving station. Dinner is more restaurant style, with options from an ever-changing daily menu plus always available classics such as Caesar salad, shrimp cocktail, grilled salmon, and spaghetti bolognese on offer. (Many dietary restrictions and preferences can be accommodated.)

On my voyage, chef Robinson put together several special plates, including what might’ve been the best dish of the week: a sesame-crusted seared yellowfin tuna with celeriac puree. The Below Deck star also put together a panko veal striploin roulade one night and, another evening, offered a citrus-cured hamachi with, in a touch of molecular gastronomy, “mango spheres.” Elsewhere on board, a poolside cafe, Aqua Café, has quick bites like burgers and flatbreads, as well as sweets and coffee pulled from a Cimbali espresso machine. The cocktails served in the Amici Lounge and the Sky Bar were consistently excellent, mixed by a talented team of pros who’ve previously worked on Seabourn ships and in some of Dubai’s top hotels. One weaker spot was the selection of wine on board: pours at mealtimes are included, but they didn’t rock my boat. A short list of “chairman’s wines,” available at extra cost, included a couple by-the-bottle finds such as 2013 vintage Cristal ($650) and some mid-tier Bordeaux and Burgundy options.

Where Emerald Sakara Sails

Though small, this ship isn’t an expedition yacht. Rather, it’s specifically designed for warm-weather coastal cruising, meaning it spends the lion’s share of its time in places such as the Caribbean and, in the Northern Hemisphere’s summer months, the Mediterranean. My trip aboard was spent entirely in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean, where passages between ports were short and the seas were often calm. (We did occasionally encounter some swells of up to two meters, or 6.6 feet. I saw many guests wearing medicated patches to prevent motion sickness throughout the trip.) Sakara typically spends a season of several months in a given region, with a variety of cruise lengths offered, ranging from six to 24 days. In 2024, the ship will spend April through November in the Mediterranean. Sakara will return to the Caribbean at the end of the year, through April 2025.

Shore Excursions

Tours off the ship were a strong suit for Emerald, at least on my voyage. Most stops offered a variety of activities, ranging from a simple transfer to a nearby beach to a full-on, multi-hour tour. Usually, I found myself ashore with a very small group of folks — fewer than a dozen — and all the guides Emerald arranged were true pros. Passengers raved about a kayak paddle through the bioluminescent bay on Vieques, something I sadly didn’t try myself. I did, however, enjoy a short guided hike on the island of St. John, to the pristine beach along Salomon Bay, which was all but deserted. The organization of excursions felt flawless to me, thanks no doubt to the crew and shore excursion manager, Pilar Atencio. Worth a mention, too, were Atencio’s detailed briefings on what to expect each day. While these sorts of “port talks'' are common on ships of all sizes, they felt particularly useful on Sakara because of how intimate our groups were; many passengers made a point of attending the pre-dinner talks every night, for info on what to expect about our anchorage, historical background on each island, and detailed info about what each tour offering would entail.

Amenities and Entertainment

Call it small but mighty: Sakara has all the essentials, which is a bit of feat for a ship this size. A cozy spa has wellness and beauty treatments, as well as a small hairstyling and facial studio; morning yoga and stretching are available on deck. The fitness center, with a few cardio machines, a Peloton bike, and a variety of weights and other gear gets the job done. The smallish pool and a top-deck whirlpool were lovely — though I spent most of my time in the ocean: the Sakara ’s marina deck is a key feature, and it was open several afternoons during my trip. It’s like the greatest pool party you’ve ever been to, complete with piña coladas, sea kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and a trampoline, right off the stern of the ship. It is, truly, as much fun as it sounds like, though it is subject to the whims of weather and ocean currents. Also available in some destinations are e-bikes from Gocycle, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis; during my trip, several guests gave them a spin on the island of Vieques. Sakara also carries a ton of snorkeling gear and beach towels, which passengers can borrow whenever they like. In terms of performances, this isn’t the vessel for Broadway-style shows, but guitarist Jamie Ferguson and voyage director Nathalie Millet added plenty of live music to the trip.

Family-friendly Offerings

The youngest passengers I spoke with on my cruise were in their 20s — and they were traveling with their parents. Sakara is perhaps the perfect ship for families traveling with adult children, since it offers such a diverse array of activities to suit different tastes and activity levels, while visiting intriguing destinations. The ship is also intimate enough that everybody can gather easily for meals — or a swim off the stern — without fighting the crowds common on larger vessels. On the other hand, Sakara is probably not the best choice for families with younger children: there’s no kid-specific programming, and you’re likely to be the only ones aboard with little ones. “Emerald Cruises yachts are recommended for people aged 12 and up, and they must be accompanied by and share a cabin with an adult aged 18 or [older],” a spokesperson shared with T+L.

Accessibility

Sakara is probably best described as somewhat accessible: the ship has elevators to all decks and the crew was, on my trip, very accommodating to those with mobility challenges. There are handrails throughout, and bathrooms feature shower grab bars. That being said, several areas of the ship — the outdoor dining terrace, for example — require navigating at least one step even once you’ve reached the deck in question by elevator. “Due to the nature and size of the ships, wheelchairs and scooters are not allowed to be used on board,” a spokesperson told T+L. When the ship is at anchor, it’s only possible to go ashore by tender or Zodiac, both of which could be challenging for those with limited mobility. As Emerald’s FAQ explains: “Guests with limited mobility will require help from a companion, since the crew is limited.” Also of note: many announcements are made only by loudspeaker with no hearing-impaired alternative.

Divers find 5 bodies during search of yacht wreckage off Sicily

The Associated Press

Italian firefighter divers bring ashore in a green bag the body of one of the victims of the U.K.-flag vessel Bayesian on Wednesday.

PORTICELLO, Sicily — Divers searching the wreck of a superyacht that sank off Sicily found the bodies of five passengers Wednesday and searched for one more as questions intensified about why the vessel sank so quickly when a nearby sailboat remained largely unscathed.

Rescue crews unloaded three body bags from rescue vessels that pulled into port at Porticello. Salvatore Cocina, head of the Sicily civil protection agency, said two other bodies had also been found in the wreckage for a total of five.

Mike Lynch remains missing after a luxury yacht sank off of Sicily's coast. Lynch, who sold his tech firm Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard in 2011, had recently been acquitted of fraud charges related to the sale.

Who are Mike Lynch and the other people missing after a yacht sank in Sicily?

The discovery made clear the operation to search the hull on the seabed 50 meters (164 feet) underwater had quickly turned into a recovery one, not a rescue, given the amount of time that had passed and that no signs of life had emerged over three days of searching, maritime experts said.

The Bayesian, a 56-meter (184-foot) British-flagged yacht, went down in a storm early Monday as it was moored about a kilometer (a half-mile) offshore. Civil protection officials said they believed the ship was struck by a tornado over the water, known as a waterspout, and sank quickly.

Fifteen people escaped in a lifeboat and were rescued by a nearby sailboat. One body was recovered Monday — that of the ship’s chef, Recaldo Thomas, of Antigua.

Thomas was born in Canada, according to his cousin David Isaac, but would visit his parents’ homeland of Antigua as a child, moving permanently to the tiny eastern Caribbean island in his early 20s. Italian officials previously listed Antigua as the nationality of someone on board.

The fate of six missing passengers had driven the search effort, including British tech magnate Mike Lynch , his 18-year-old daughter and associates who had successfully defended him in a recent U.S. federal fraud trial.

Lynch’s spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

What caused the ship to sink so quickly?

Meanwhile, investigators from the Termini Imerese Public Prosecutor’s Office were acquiring evidence for their criminal investigation, which they opened immediately after the tragedy even though no formal suspects have been publicly identified.

Questions abound about what caused the superyacht, built in 2008 by Italian shipyard Perini Navi, to sink so quickly, when the nearby Sir Robert Baden Powell sailboat was largely spared and managed to rescue the survivors.

Was it merely the case of a freak waterspout that knocked the ship to its side and allowed water to pour in through open hatches? What was the position of the keel, which on a large sailboat such as the Bayesian might have been retractable, to allow it to enter shallower ports?

“There’s a lot of uncertainty as to whether it had a lifting keel and whether it might have been up,” said Jean-Baptiste Souppez, a fellow of the Royal Institute of Naval Architects and the editor of the Journal of Sailing Technology. “But if it had, then that would reduce the amount of stability that the vessel had, and therefore made it easier for it to roll over on its side,” he said in an interview.

The captain of the Sir Robert Baden Powell sailboat, which came to the Bayesian’s rescue, said his craft had sustained minimal damage — the frame of a sun awning broke — even with winds that he estimated reached 12 on the Beaufort wind scale, which is the highest, hurricane-strength force on the scale.

He said he had remained anchored with his engines running to try to maintain the ship’s position as the storm, which was forecast, rolled in.

Search teams scour waters along Italy’s southwestern shore, where a luxury yacht sank

“Another possibility is to heave anchor before the storm and to run downwind at open sea,” Karsten Bornersaid in a text message. But he said that might not have been a viable option for the Bayesian, given its trademark 75-meter (246-foot) tall mast.

“If there was a stability problem, caused by the extremely tall mast, it would not have been better at open sea,” he said.

Yachts like the Bayesian are required to have watertight, sub-compartments that are specifically designed to prevent a rapid, catastrophic sinking even when some parts fill with water.

“So for the vessel to sink, especially this fast, you are really looking at taking water on board very quickly, but also in a number of locations along the length of the vessel, which again indicates that it might have been rolled over on its side,” Souppez said.

Italian coast guard and fire rescue divers continued the underwater search in dangerous and time-consuming conditions. Because of the wreck’s depth, which requires special precautions, divers working in tag teams could only spend about 12 minutes at a time searching.

The limited dive time is designed in part to avoid decompression sickness, also known as the “bends,” which can occur when divers stay underwater for long periods and ascend too quickly, allowing nitrogen gas dissolved in the blood to form bubbles.

“The longer you stay, the slower your ascent has to be,” said Simon Rogerson, the editor of SCUBA magazine. He said the tight turnaround time suggests the operation's managers are trying to limit the risks and recovery time after each dive.

“It sounds like they’re operating essentially on no decompression or very tight decompression, or they’re being extremely conservative,” he said.

Additionally, the divers were working in extremely tight spaces, with debris floating around them, limited visibility and oxygen tanks on their backs.

Emergency services at the scene of the search for a missing boat Monday in Porticello Santa Flavia, Italy.

Search resumes for British tech magnate and 5 others after yacht sinks off Sicily

“We are trying to advance in tight spaces, but any single thing slows us down,” said Luca Cari, spokesman for the fire rescue service. “An electric panel could set us back for five hours. These aren’t normal conditions. We’re at the limit of possibility.”

“It’s not a question of entering the cabin to inspect it,” he added. “They’ve arrived at the level of the cabins, but it’s not like you can open the door,” he said.

The Italian coast guard said they had reinforced their dive teams and were using underwater remote-controlled robots, which can stay out for six or seven hours at a time and record the surroundings.

The lack of any signs of life and the recovery of bodies led outside experts to conclude that the search was now a recovery effort and investigation to determine how the tragedy had unfolded.

“I think the fact that there’s been quite a lot of diving presence around the vessel and that they haven’t been able to pick up any signs of life inside the vessel, is, is unfortunately, not a particularly good sign,” said Souppez.

Royal Caribbean reveals details about second Icon Class ship, Star of the Seas

Portrait of Nathan Diller

The world’s biggest cruise ship is about to get a sibling.

Royal Caribbean International revealed new details Tuesday about its second Icon Class vessel, Star of the Seas. The ship will set sail from Florida’s Port Canaveral near Orlando in August 2025.

“Us really bringing the world's best family vacation to one of the world's best family markets felt like a natural synergy,” Jay Schneider, chief product innovation officer and senior vice president for the line's parent company, Royal Caribbean Group , told USA TODAY.

The ship’s onboard offerings will build on what has resonated with guests on Icon of the Seas since it debuted in January – with some twists.

“One thing about this class is the class is coming out very fast, and it doesn't give you a whole lot of time to adjust,” Schneider said. “And so we wanted to learn as much as we could about what is successful on Icon as we kind of look ahead to Star.”

Where will Star of the Seas sail?

The 5,610-guest ship will operate seven-night Caribbean cruises, including destinations like Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis, Cozumel in Mexico and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Every cruise will also stop at the Royal Caribbean’s Bahamas private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay .

What can passengers expect?

The ship, a sister vessel to Icon, will include many of its familiar spaces, from the Category 6 water park to the enclosed glass-and-steel AquaDome and the adults-only Hideaway pool and lounge area. There will also be more than 40 dining and beverage options.

For comparison, Star – like Icon – will have 20 decks and measure 1,196 feet long. Royal Caribbean's newest Oasis Class ship, Utopia of the Seas , has 18 decks and measures 1,188 feet.

But Star will feature new takes on some features that launched on Icon. Empire Supper Club, an intimate space serving multicourse meals with live entertainment, will be reimagined as the 1930s Chicago-inspired Lincoln Park Supper Club. The “eatertainment” venue was always envisioned as an evolving concept, Schneider said.

“So, Icon is New York, Star will be Chicago, and once we get to Icon three, which we haven't released the name of yet, (it) will be Hollywood,” he said. “And so we're following the sun as we create this class.”

The line will make similar adjustments to some family-focused programming, such as its Adventure Ocean kids club . Even as the line has offered increasingly advanced gaming technology, children have also requested more analog options like foosball and pingpong. Icon’s Surfside neighborhood, originally designed with kids 6 and younger in mind, has proven popular with children as old as 10 and will cater to a wider range of ages on Star.

Royal Caribbean is also concept-testing new cuisine types for AquaDome Market, the line’s food hall that serves Mediterranean fare, crepes and more on Icon.

Schneider noted that like Icon’s Chief Dog Officer Rover, a golden retriever who makes appearances to “surprise and delight” guests, Star will have its own resident canine named Sailor (likely of the same breed). “So Rover is excited to have a sibling, who hopefully they'll be able to meet on Perfect Day at CocoCay.”

The line will roll out new technology on board, too. A waterproof bracelet that allows parents to track where their kids are via the cruise line’s app will be available after a pilot on Icon this summer. Schneider said the cruise line has also been working on facial-recognition stateroom doors “for a while” and expects them to be piloted on board Star.

Floating resorts vs yacht-like vessels: How to pick between big and small cruise ships

How much does Star of the Seas cost?

Prices vary by sailing date, room category and other factors, but 2025 cruises now start at $1,654 to $1,705 per person based on double occupancy. Fares include many meals on board, drinks like regular coffee and lemonade and more.

Rome — Divers recovered the body of a fifth victim of the Bayesian superyacht wreck Thursday morning, Sicily Civil Protection Chief Salvo Cocina confirmed to CBS News, and the Reuters news agency cited Italian Interior Ministry official Massimo Mariani as saying it was the body of Mike Lynch, the British tech magnate whose wife owned the vessel.

Italian Coast Guard spokesperson Vincenzo Zagarola told CBS News that teams were still working to recover the body of the sixth and final person left missing when the boat went down. The six bodies had remained stuck inside the 184-foot luxury yacht for days after it sank early Monday morning off the coast of Palermo, Sicily in a severe thunderstorm.

Four bodies were retrieved Wednesday from the Bayesian, which was resting on the seafloor at a 90 degree angle at a depth of over 160 feet. The vessel's position and items that moved around inside the ill-fated yacht made recovery efforts slow and hazardous.

Italian authorities have not officially identified the remains recovered from the Bayesian, which belonged to Lynch's wife Angela Bacares. She was among the 15 people who managed to escape from the boat as it sank quickly on Monday morning, but Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah were among those left missing.

Another victim, the Bayesian superyacht's chef, was found dead soon after the boat capsized.

Along with Lynch and his daughter, the technology mogul's American lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda, and British banker Jonathan Bloomer and his wife, were believed to have been trapped in the yacht when it sank.

Questions as to how the state-of-the-art boat could have gone down so quickly have mounted steadily since the accident.

Italian media were reporting Thursday that, after questioning survivors and witnesses, Italian prosecutors had opened an official investigation into a possible "culpable shipwreck." No individuals had been named as potential suspects.

On Thursday, Giovanni Costantino, head of the Italian Sea Group, which owns the company Perini Navi, which built the Bayesian in 2008, blamed human error.

"A Perini ship resisted Hurricane Katrina, a Category 5 [hurricane]. Does it seem to you that it can't resist a tornado from here?" he remarked to the newspaper Corriere della Sera. "It is good practice when the ship is at anchor to have a guard on the bridge, and if there was one he could not have failed to see the storm coming. Instead, it took on water with the guests still in the cabin. ... They ended up in a trap, those poor people ended up like mice."

One possible factor could have been that the ship's keel — a fin-like structure that sticks out from the bottom of the boat, designed to provide stability and counterweight to the huge mast — was not fully deployed. The yacht had a retractable keel that could be raised for entry into shallow harbors. But a raised keel at sea would have made the ship much more vulnerable to instability in the strong winds that struck early Monday morning.

When asked whether divers had seen the ship's keel in a raised position, a spokesman for the Italian Coast Guard told CBS News that only the prosecutor investigating the incident could confirm such information but that the Coast Guard "was not denying" it.

The ship's captain, 51-year-old New Zealand national James Cutfileld, was questioned for two hours by prosecutors on Thursday, according to Italian media.
