COUPE D’AUTOMNE DU YCF 2024
Designed by
Alfred mylne, william king & son, burnham on crouch, uk, sailing class, vintage marconi, sail number, bermudian cutter.
The Blue Peter was launched in 1930, although the teak used in the construction of her hull was brought from Thailand in 1870. Her first owner Desmond Molins decided in 1938 that he wanted a bigger boat, but he loved The Blue Peter so much that he decided to have her lengthened by nearly 10 feet. She remains true to these plans to this day.
She was named The Blue Peter for luck, after the ‘P’ flag, which is used as the preparatory signal before starting a race. It worked. She won over 50 races in and around the south coast of England over the next 20 years, sailing out of The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club in Burnham-on-Crouch.
The Blue Peter passed into Italian ownership after the war. She had three different Italian owners before her present owner, Mathew Barker, bought her in 1999.

The Blue Peter was launched in 1930 although the teak used in her construction was bought in Thailand in 1870. She was designed by Alfred Mylne in 1929, and built by W.King & Sons of Burnham-on-Crouch.
She was named The Blue Peter after the ‘P’ Flag, which is used as the five minute signal before starting a race. This was intended to bring her luck whilst racing. It worked & she went on to win over 50 races, sailing out of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club in Burnham-on-Crouch.
The present owner bought her in 1999 and took her to Italy where he spent the next 3 years restoring her back to her original splendour. Blue Peter having been regatta racing in the Mediterranean for many years is now located during the summer months in New England and spends her time during the winter in the Caribbean to take part in the Caribbean regattas.

In 2012 she raced in the Panerai Transat race from Cascais to Barbados. She then continued onto the Caribbean for the classic regattas. In Antigua Classics, and in a big swell, her chain plates gave way and her mast came crashing down.
The Blue Peter was out and racing again for the 2013 Mediterranean regattas in August with a new fractional rig.

Description
The History of The Blue Peter begins officially in 1930, although the teak was used for the construction of the hull was imported from Thailand in 1870. The Blue Peter was built in 1930 by King & Sons of Burnham-on-Crouch, designed by the designer Alfred Mylne from the year 1929. The Blue Peter is the name of the regatta flag (Blue Peter) loan, which comes as a signal for the early start to use five minutes before the start of a race. In the years after her launch The Blue Peter won with the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club at Burnham-on-Crouch over 50 races. After six successful years, her owner Desmond Molins decided on a drastic remodeling of the vessel by letting remove the bowsprit and lengthen the torso. In 1938, The Blue Peter underwent a relaunch of their plans they have been preserved to this day in the same form. After this conversion followed Molin for 12 more years successful regatta. In the early 50s, The Blue Peter was sold and taken to Italy. There, she graced Italy's islands and seas for almost 50 years, until her current owner Mathew Barker found in Elba. He brought her to Porto Santo Stefano, in the shipyard Cantiere Navale Dell 'Argentario to let them shine back to its former glory in a complex refit. The entire renovation took nearly 3 years, and The Blue Peter already during this time again denied many of the Mediterranean regattas and with some great results as a victory in her class at the regatta, Trofeo Almirante Conde de Barcelona, or the prestigious price, Most Authentic Yacht 'in Saint Tropez, in 2002.
