Satori, the 50-metre semi-displacement motoryacht delivered by heesen yachts last may, was the recipient of not one but two world yacht trophies in cannes, and the prestigious prix du design in monaco. the awards are testament to her owner’s conviction, her designers’ creativity and the belief of her builders that the customer is (almost) always right.….

The rapturous media reception that Satori has enjoyed is somewhat ironic when you consider that her owner was not initially in the market for a motoryacht at all.

When Benson eventually entered into a contract with Heesen, he took over a build that had been started by another owner.

Benson has not shelved his plans for a sailboat entirely and hinted that one might be in the pipeline.

Satori combines the comforts of a 5-star boutique hotel with a traditional hand-built wooden schooner to create the ultimate classic sailing experience.

Concept & Design

Inspired by the understated elegance of the 1920s and ‘30s era with exquisite wood detailing and expansive window views, Satori features state-of-the-art living, dining, and leisure facilities in a seamless design that amplifies the feeling of space and privacy on board, with various areas for guests to retreat to in intimate seclusion.

Satori features five luxury cabins, including a master suite, and accommodates up to 10 guests. One of the guest rooms can even be converted into a private spa facility with a steam room and be used for therapeutic treatments. Before sailing, guests can choose how they would like to utilise the space and arrange to have a personal therapist on board.

We have eight wonderful and highly capable crew members to take care of all our guests’ needs and oversee the smooth sailing of Satori. Each member brings considerable experience in the field of high-end dining and hospitality on-board luxury yachts, and have all received further extensive training at Borgo Santo Pietro.

Experiences on board

Satori is not just about her design, but how she is experienced. Designers Claus and Jeanette Thottrup have drawn together decades of design and sailing know-how to refine the onboard experience to the utmost detail and create entirely new sailing experiences, from exquisite dining to the outdoor cinema under the stars, onboard spa facilities that offer steam therapy en voyage to action-packed water sport gadgets .

Destinations

Whether navigating the jewel-like coves of the Mediterranean coast or sailing directly out towards the vast blue horizon, each of Satori's itineraries are tailor-made to clients' desires. Guests are invited to plan their ideal holiday in collaboration with Satori's captain and our 5-star concierge services at Borgo Santo Pietro by customising the sailing route and organising various activities. My Life in Boats: On board 28m Satori with Ira Levenshon

An adoptive Miamian shares the good life on Satori with Grace Trofa

I grew up in Chicago. When I was 12, I sold newspapers not far from Montrose Harbor. I’d watch the boats and think, “One day I want one of those.” Fortuitously, I ended up in Miami where I finished undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Miami.

At 24, I bought my first boat – a five-metre open boat that looked more like a bathtub. I sat on the gas tank and it had a little bench across the bow. I managed to take that boat to Bimini twice – it was either courageous or stupid. For the next 20 years I had a Sea Ray, which I took along the Florida coast and to the Bahamas.

In 2004, I fell in love with an 18 metre Horizon. It was my first “yacht-ish” boat and my introduction to the company. Satori , my third Horizon, is an E88 model, which is 28 metres overall. But the 18 metre was my favourite because I met and fell in love with my wife, Wendy, on that boat. The person who fixed us up told me Wendy knew everything about boats. She certainly knew the verbiage, but that’s because she read Power Boating for Dummies the night before we met. We got married barefoot on the boat in Ocean Reef and then left for a 100-day honeymoon, travelling to Chesapeake Bay and all the ports in between. We have been together 24 hours a day, seven days a week ever since.

Our home port is Miami, and our dock is below our condominium on Biscayne Bay.  We go away for a week or two on Satori every month during the winter. We also tow a 25ft Intrepid.  We go to the Fort Lauderdale, Miami and Palm Beach boat shows; they’re major social scenes for us because we have so many boating friends. We saw our current boat at Fort Lauderdale in 2016. A friend bought it before we did, but it was fine because, 18 months later, we bought it from him after he purchased a larger boat. He did all the hard work!

I love living in Miami; it’s like being an expat in your own country and we both speak Spanish. In 2017 we took our previous 23 metre Horizon, along with 150 of our closest friends, from Ocean Reef to Cuba. It was fabulous. There were 17 boats in total and we left at 1am so that we would arrive in time for sunrise over Havana. Wendy and I stayed for two weeks. The commodore of the Hemingway International Yacht Club gave us the best slip, right in front of the clubhouse.

This is our 13th year travelling up to Maine for the summer. We stop along the way since we have friends in every port, and it is nice to get to know their families. It’s all about family, friends and lobster. The last boat I had before my parents passed was a 12 metre Sea Ray. One day my mom, who was cooking lunch below, complained that it was so cramped. I said, “Mom, it’s bigger than the apartment I was born in.” We both laughed. I wish they could see this – it is a fabulous life.

Shakhty, Rostov Oblast, Russia

Shakhty is a city located in the Rostov Oblast in southwestern Russia. As of the most recent census in 2020, the population of the city was approximately 230,000 people, making it one of the largest cities in the region.

While Shakhty is generally a safe city, like any other city, it is not completely immune to crime. In recent years, the city has experienced an increase in crime, particularly in the areas of theft and burglary. According to the Rostov Oblast Department of Internal Affairs, the crime rate in Shakhty has increased by approximately 10% in the last year. However, it is worth noting that crime rates in Shakhty remain lower than in many other large cities in Russia.

Historically, Shakhty has been known for several high-profile crimes. One of the most notable incidents occurred in 1928 when a group of young Communists were accused of murdering a group of members of the Orthodox Church. The incident, known as the "Shakhty Trial," became a major political scandal in the Soviet Union and resulted in a wave of political purges.

While there are no areas of Shakhty that are considered completely unsafe, there are certain neighborhoods that are more prone to crime than others.
