Venture to this impressive fortress city and discover the gorgeous green islands in the adriatic sea.

Dubrovnik is undoubtedly one of the most impressive cities in South Dalmatia. Make sure to also pay a visit to the small, green islands in southern Dalmatia. These stunning islands are full of lush green nature and excellent little konobas (small Croatian restaurants).

The perfect holiday destination for lovers of nature and culture

Dubrovnik is a veritable cornucopia of Mediterranean beauty and cultural heritage. There are also plenty of different areas that are easily accessible during a sailing trip. You can also take a trip to Montenegro.

Must-see locations during your catamaran rental in Southern Dalmatia

Dubrovnik and the surrounding area.

The ACI Marina Dubrovnik, which is a great starting point for your trip, is located at Komolac, at the end of the Rijeka Dubrovacka fjord, which is about two nautical miles from the city. The marina has a wide range of services, including a supermarket, a wonderful restaurant, a café, a beer bar, clean sanitary facilities, a laundrette, a swimming pool, tennis courts and playgrounds, a hairdressing salon, a massage parlour and an internet café. The old town is about six kilometres from the marina and is easily reached by local buses.

The impressive Lovrijenac Fortress sits on a steep 37-metre-high cliff and is located at the city’s western entrance. Numerous legends are associated with this impregnable fortress' history. It is said to have been built within three months and, from the 11th century onwards, has provided protection for the city of Dubrovnik against the repeated attacks of the Venetians.

This fortress was the greatest defender of freedom for centuries. Carved in stone above the front door are the words "NON BENE PRO TOTO LIBERTAS VENDITUR AURO" (Freedom will not be sold for all the gold in the world).

Explore the city during your catamaran rental in Dubrovnik

The city of Dubrovnik offers a spectacular cable car ride up Mount Srđ (405 m). The ride starts in the old town and takes just under 5 minutes. From the top of the hill, you will have an incomparable view of the old town and the island of Lokrum. Food and drink are readily available. There are two panoramic terraces and a snack bar. Price for the round trip is approximately €10.00.

This is the most beautiful and important street in the heart of the old town, and is also sometimes known as Placa Luža. The name Stradun comes from the Venetians and means "Big Street".

Today, this street is lined with a great number of small shops, galleries and souvenir shops. There is a wide variety of restaurants and cafés along the narrow streets that branch off of Stradun. In the evening, the Stradun becomes an open-air stage and promenade. Sit back in one of the many street cafés and look out over the hustle and bustle of the street whilst sipping wine or an espresso.

Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Every year on July 10th, the Libertas flag is raised on the Roland Column, which marks the start of Dubrovnik's oldest music and theatre festival. In order to prepare for the festival, the city's squares, streets and churches are transformed into stages every summer.

Synagogues and churches

The Sv. Gospa Cathedral (Assumption) is diagonally opposite the Dean's Palace. According to historical sources, this Romanesque cathedral was a richly decorated basilica whose dome was adorned with magnificent sculptures. According to legend, Richard Lionheart was stranded on the island of Lokrum in 1192 on the way home from his third crusade. Out of gratitude for his rescue, he provided the church with an endowment. Above the main altar you can admire a painting by the Venetian artist Titian from 1552.

St. Blasius has been the patron saint of Dubrovnik since 972. According to legend, he saved the city from the Venetians. Relics of the patron saint are kept in the treasury of Dubrovnik Cathedral and are shown to the faithful every year on the 3rd of February during the procession on the streets of the city.

The city wall and towers

The city walls measure approximately 2 kilometres long and consist of the main wall, 16 towers, three forts, six bastions, two corner forts, three outer walls, three moats, two outer forts and two drawbridges.

Most of the wall still looks exactly as it did between the 12th and 17th centuries, when it was designed and built.

Restaurants, food and wine

Dubrovnik's restaurants and konobas offer their guests a wide variety of culinary delights. During your catamaran rental in Dubrovnik, be sure to taste the fresh fish specialities prepared with homemade olive oil. You also cannot miss out on Dubrovnik's legendary orange cake. Other culinary highlights include the marmalade made from pungent oranges and other tasty delicacies made from fruit and aromatic liqueurs.

Great dining options

Make sure to stop by these restaurants during your catamaran rental in Dubrovnik:

  • Restaurant Zoë, Kardinala Stepinca 31, Dubrovnik Tel. +385-20 44 04 84
  • Restaurant Mediterraneo, Kardinala Stepinca 31, 20000, Croatia, Tel. +385 20 440 100

Nightlife in Dubrovnik

If you want to immerse yourself in the nightlife, visit Club EastWest which is located on the Banje beach directly by the sea. The clubbing scene also includes Club Lazareti. This popular hub has an interactive stage and an outdoor terrace with a view of the city harbour

The Elaphiti Islands and the region’s larger islands

The island of Lokrum, a historical goldmine, is a protected nature park with tropical and subtropical vegetation. Benedictine monks founded a monastery on the island in the 11th century and planted a large exotic garden. The monks had to leave Lokrum when the island was sold in 1798. They proceeded to curse all future owners of the island.

In 1839, Habsburg Archduke Maximilian Ferdinand bought the entire island and made it his summer residence. Empress Elisabeth was also a guest on the island during the Habsburg period. According to legend, she threw her lacklustre pearls into the sea, wanting to restore them to their original state, but the empress fell victim to an assassination attempt and never returned to the island. The pearls have not been found to this day.

Today, the former monastery houses a restaurant.

On the east coast of the evergreen island is the small port of Portoc. From here, there is a path leading to the remains of a fortress. From the fortress you are greeted with a magical view of Lokrum and Dubrovnik. Another attraction is the small "Mrtvo more" saltwater lake, located in the south of the island.

The Elaphite archipelago is located a few nautical miles northwest of Dubrovnik and consists of 13 islands. Only the three largest islands of Kolocep, Lopud and Sipan are inhabited.

Lopud is covered in many different types of vegetation and is the second largest of the Elaphite Islands. Sunj Bay is normally a beautiful anchorage, but it is important to be aware of winds coming from the south. In the case of Jugo/Sirocco winds, the northwest bay of the island is recommended as a safe anchorage.

From here, you will have a beautiful view of the island of Šipan. On the north side of the bay is a small harbour protected by two piers. A full range of utilities are available in the village of Lopud and the island also has its own freshwater springs.

Šipan is the largest island in the archipelago. The Romans built two towns on the island that still exist today: Šipanska Luka and Sudurad. The harbours in Sudurad and Sipanska Luka (the two coastal towns) are famous for the sheer number mega yachts that anchor there during the season. This is where the jet set and high society find peace and relaxation. In addition to numerous other musicians, actors and politicians, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are among the island’s most prominent visitors.

There is a Renaissance castle high above the village of Šipanska Luka. From there you will have a magnificent view of the island and the bay.

Mljet’s most renowned site is its national park, with is home to a myriad of fauna and flora as well as extensive holm oak forests. The centre of the national park has two natural saltwater lakes. Benedictine monks from Apulia built a monastery there in the 12th century. In order to operate their mills, they dug a branch canal that connects the lakes with the sea.

In Pomena, you can dock your catamaran rental for free at the pier of the Konoba Barba Ive restaurant, provided you reserve a table for dinner. From here, you can visit the national park and the two saltwater lakes on foot.

Luka Polace is a bay sheltered on all sides, surrounded by forested mountains. Numerous catamarans anchor in this sheltered bay during the season.

According to Greek mythology, Odysseus is said to have been stranded on Mljet on a voyage that went astray. The beautiful sea nymph Calypso fell in love with him and held him captive there with her spell for seven years.

The town of Korcula with its ACI Marina is located on the eastern side of the island. To get a berth in season, you will have to arrive early.

Vela Luka, the largest town on the island, is located on the west side of Korcula in a deeply cut bay. Provided you can get a spot on the town pier, you will be safe from bow anchors and protected from all winds.

Most of the sights, such as the Cathedral of St. Mark, the Bishop's Palace and its treasury, along with Marco Polo's house, are in Korcula, the island’s capital. According to legend, Marco Polo was born in Korcula in 1254. The world traveller's house is located near the cathedral. You can see old maps and documents in his house.

Restaurants and bars in the old town

Korcula has a variety of good restaurants. The "Konoba Adio Mare" is located in the centre of the old town, right next to Marco Polo's house. This where you can be pampered with national dishes and local wines. The restaurant "Kanavelic" serves a rich selection of seafood, and the "Konoba Marinero" offers homemade regional specialities.

If you want to get into the nightlife, visit the "Tramonto Cocktail Bar". From the terrace you will have a wonderful view of the harbour and the vessels. "Dos Locos" is a great hangout site for young people, and "Dnodna" bar is a meeting place for locals and sailors.

Lastovo is about 24 nautical miles south of Korčula and 22 nautical miles west of Mljet.  The island was a restricted military area during the Yugoslavian era. The Yugoslav army ran an important base here. Numerous bunkers are silent witnesses to that today.  In 2006, the island of Lastovo and the surrounding islands were declared a nature park. The island is known for its blue lagoons and for having the best freshly caught lobster in the entire Adriatic.

The Peljesac peninsula

The Peljesac peninsula stretches from Ston to Cape Lovište. It is about 71 km long and 6 km wide and is connected to the mainland by a narrow land bridge.  A large variety of produce grows here, for example: olive groves, fig trees, grapes, almonds, oranges, pomegranates and mandarins. The peninsula is known for the Dingac wine region, which is one of the most important wine-growing areas in Croatia. This is where premium-quality wines are made from the Plavac Mali grape.

Beautiful anchorages and moorings for your catamaran rental in Dubrovnik can be found in Loviste, Trpanj, Drace, Brijesta, Luka, Mali-Ston, Tjpanje, Trstenik, Orebić and Zuzljana.

An unforgettable holiday: experience dubrovnik with a catamaran rental.

At the very southern tip of the Dalmatian Coast, you’ll find a city unlike any other: Dubrovnik. Fans of the series “Game of Thrones” will be familiar with many of the sites in this Croatian city which is nestled between the Adriatic and the Dinaric Alps. Entering the massive stone walls of the Old Town you’ll discover why this part of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll down the limestone streets and feast your eyes on the beautiful baroque buildings complemented by the deep blue sea. Discover Dubrovnik, the “Pearl of the Adriatic” the best way, by boat. With a catamaran rental in Dubrovnik, you can sail smoothly, with a double-hulled structure that protects you from the ebb and flow of the sea. Go sailing in Dubrovnik and experience the holiday of a lifetime.

What do I have to pay to charter a catamaran in Dubrovnik?

The cost of a catamaran rental in Dubrovnik is subject to change depending on a number of factors such as time of year, the number of passengers on board, and the size and model of the catamaran you choose.

Generally speaking, a catamaran rental in Dubrovnik costs about €7,042/week in high season and €1,390/week in low season for 10 people on board.

What is the best time of year for a catamaran rental in Dubrovnik?

The high season in Dubrovnik typically runs throughout the summer from July to August. During this time there are various festivals and events you can attend throughout your stay. The weather will be at its best with highs of 28°C in August and little to no precipitation. The water will also be very warm which is ideal for swimming. While it's true that travelling in high season ensures you’ll have the best weather possible, the city will be quite crowded and prices for catamaran rentals in Dubrovnik will be at their most expensive.

For good weather and slightly lower prices on catamarans, consider a charter anytime between May and October excluding the summer months.

Should I rent a catamaran in Dubrovnik with or without a skipper?

At Océans Évasion we have a variety of catamarans rentals in Dubrovnik with or without a skipper. If you’re a more experienced sailor and you are comfortable out on the water, having a skipper on board might not be necessary however, there are always benefits to having a skipper for experienced and novice sailors alike. A catamaran with a skipper gives you a more luxurious sailing experience with an all-inclusive feel. Skippers handle sailing logistics and sometimes, even take care of the cooking and cleaning on board so you don’t have to worry about a thing. The best part about a skipper is the fact that they are usually locals of Dubrovnik who can give you recommendations for where to go and what to eat. They can also take you to see the city’s hidden gems that you won’t find on travel websites!

What can I do and see on a Dubrovnik catamaran charter?

If you’re considering a catamaran charter in Dubrovnik you’re in luck as there’s no shortage of things to do! You’ll never be bored marveling at the spectacular architecture and wandering through the city to the seaside. To help you get started with your Dubrovnik itinerary, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite things to do on a boat trip in Dubrovnik.

  • Sail to Lokrum Island, one of the filming sights of “Game of Thrones” at the Benedictine Monastery. While on the island you can swim at the beach and see giant rabbits and colourful peacocks roaming the land.
  • Sunbathe and sample the handsome array of local beaches. Visit Banje Beach, the main beach in the city which is very popular with tourists, or go where the locals go and set sail for Sveti Jakov, a part shingle part pebble beach.
  • Go sea kayaking on the sparkling Adriatic, Dubrovnik’s signature outdoor activity. Start in the calm waters of Pile Gate and kayak all the way to Lokrum Island.
  • Unearth the secrets of the hidden cave beach which is only accessible by sea. In Betina špilja, you’ll see the large entrance of the cave and the blanket of white pebbles meeting the crystal clear water.
  • Hop around the Elaphiti Islands and discover the Blue Caves in Koločep illuminated with an electric, aqua light.

Sailing on a catamaran in Dubrovnik

Sailing on a catamaran in Dubrovnik is a fantastic way to explore the beauty of the Croatian coastline and its surrounding islands. With a catamaran rental in Dubrovnik , you can glide through the waters comfortably while enjoying the convenience and spaciousness of the boat. The crystal-clear waters, picturesque coves, and charming fishing villages along the coast offer a variety of opportunities for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxation. The pros of renting a catamaran in Dubrovnik

Catamarans are known for their ample deck space and interior accommodations. With multiple cabins, lounges, and open areas, you and your fellow passengers will have plenty of room to relax and enjoy the journey. A catamaran charter in Dubrovnik is allowing you to take full advantage of all the space and will ensure that your vacation can be enjoyed to the fullest.

Catamarans have two hulls, which provide excellent stability on the water. This stability ensures a smoother sailing experience, even in rougher seas, making it ideal for those prone to seasickness or looking for a more comfortable voyage. A catamaran rental in Dubrovnik will simply feel less shaky.

Renting a catamaran in Dubrovnik gives you the freedom to customise your itinerary and explore secluded bays and hidden beaches. You can anchor in private spots, enjoy peaceful surroundings, and escape the crowds. As catamarans have a shallow draft, even more secluded places are accessible when sailing there.

The cons of renting a catamaran in Dubrovnik

Catamarans in Dubrovnik generally come with higher rental costs compared to monohull sailboats or other types of water vessels. The larger size, wonderful amenities, and added stability of catamarans contribute to the higher price point. It is definitely not a boat that is great to rent when travelling on a budget, but if you have the necessary funds available, you should definitely make the most of it.

Charter a private luxury catamaran in Dubrovnik

If you're looking to elevate your sailing experience in Dubrovnik, chartering a private luxury catamaran in Dubrovnik is an excellent choice. Luxury catamarans in Dubrovnik offer ample space and comfortable living quarters. They often feature multiple cabins with en-suite bathrooms, a well-equipped galley, spacious saloon, and outdoor areas for relaxation and entertainment. You can enjoy the privacy and comfort of a high-end floating villa.

How many people can go on a catamaran in Dubrovnik?

Most catamarans in Dubrovnik have enough space on board to host 10-12 people, but there are even catamarans where up to 14 people can comfortably stay. However, keep in mind that most beds are double-beds, so a catamaran charter in Dubrovnik will be perfect for a group of close friends or couple friends.

When is the best time to sail on a catamaran in Dubrovnik?

Sailing season in Dubrovnik generally lasts from May until October and this part of Croatia also offers great conditions for catamarans. There are plenty of beautiful beaches worth discovering, the days are sunny and warm and you can sunbathe as much as you want.

Keep in mind that June, July and August are the most popular months amongst tourists to visit this part of Croatia. The marinas will be busy and it might not always be the easiest undertaking to find a spot for mooring. You might be better off trying to find a quiet anchoring spot during the night - especially since catamarans are quite spacious.

How much does it cost to rent a catamaran in Dubrovnik?

Catamarans are definitely the most expensive types of boats you can rent in Dubrovnik - not surprisingly. On average a catamaran rental in Dubrovnik will cost 460 EUR per person per day, but don’t worry - most catamarans here feel like little luxury hotels on water. As this is only an average price, you will certainly find more affordable options too - particularly when booking a catamaran in Dubrovnik off-season.

What kind of boat licence do I need when renting a catamaran in Dubrovnik?

Anyone who wants to rent a catamaran in Dubrovnik needs to be in possession of a valid boat licence and a VHF radio licence. After all, you don’t just need to be qualified enough to drive or sail a boat, but also need to know how to communicate on a regular basis as well as in emergency situations.

If you don’t have a valid boat licence and don’t plan on getting one in the near future, don’t worry! You can still rent a catamaran in Dubrovnik , but you will need to hire a skipper in addition to your bareboat charter . That way you don’t even have to worry about anything, you simply lean back, relax and enjoy your sailing vacation on a catamaran.

Sailing experience level

Breach Dubrovnik’s mighty walls

One of  Croatia ’s ancient coastal cities, ‘the Pearl of the Adriatic’ is numbered among the best-preserved medieval walled cities on Earth. Croatia presents conditions ideal for those new to coastal sailing, with gentle winds and fine weather promising many pleasant hours on deck. For those with a taste for adventure, occasional mistral winds up the ante and presents more challenging conditions.

Dubrovnik’s historic fortifications surround picturesque white stone buildings, their terracotta roofs standing out in contrast to the rich azure blue of the Adriatic beyond. The Old Town is a taste of Mediterranean life from another era. The harbour is overlooked by Dubrovnik’s ancient citadels and scattered with several spectacular Renaissance palaces leading onto a warren of pedestrian-only streets. Crystal-clear blue waters give way to white-sand beaches and secluded coves, while the thousands of Croatian islands offer endless opportunities for adventure.

Just outside Dubrovnik harbor, you’ll find the first of Croatia’s many isles: densely-wooded Lokrum, home to the ruins of a Benedictine monastery. Sail north and discover Mljet National Park – home to natural harbors, stunning beaches, and tidal island lakes – and the island getaways of Korčula and Lastovo. Beyond are the countless islands of the Dalmatian coast and a wealth of golden beaches, delicious seafood restaurants, and exciting nightlife.

  • Gentle winds and occasional Mistrals
  • A rich history and spectacular scenery
  • Line-of-sight navigation and island hops

Thank you for best week of my life. The boat performed perfectly. Out skipper Josko was just fantastic captain and great fun to have. He really made sure that we had the possibility to enjoy this week to the max. Very professional and good anticipation to weather conditions! I am very happy to have him as a skipper.
We had such a great week, despite two days of rain. This is why Croatia is so unique. There is always something to see and something to do. We couldn’t believe how romantic Croatian small towns are on the rain. The boat behaved very well, the food was exceptionally good in the konobas, and all the locals were friendly and helpful. Our skipper was very proffessional but also friendly, took us to the best places such as see some beautiful caves and bays, sea is so clear and clean.
Josko from Catamaran Charter Croatia was incredible to work with – truly an expert and so well connected in the area. The boats he works with are far superior to the majority we saw on the sea and the staff he has access to are incredible! From the service, the food, the knowledge on best places to avoid crowds and find the perfect cove to swim or the perfect locals restaurant really made the trip special. Croatia is a special place – a cleaner version of Italy with more hospitable people and tremendous food & wine. The towns, scenery, history, architecture were all incredible.

If you miss out on the above, you may choose to rent catamaran in Croatia and visit Central Adriatic with Kornati national park.

Or you can try Istria and Kvarner Gulf . Istria as the largest Croatian peninsula and the islands of Kvarner Gulf are paradise to sea lovers. This area is adorned by old towns, marvelous beaches and numerous small island along the coastline, ideal for catamaran cruises.

From open sailboats for rent, luxury yachts to traditional crewed gulets, we have a lot of yachts for everyone to choose from.

Charter Croatia Bases

With bases in Split , Trogir, Dubrovnik , Pula, Šibenik and Zadar , there is wide range of sailing areas we are covering. So, whether you like to check  Kornati archipelago, Mljet national park or beautiful caves around Vis island, we have catamaran there. Croatia, with its crystal clear blue water, is becoming more and more popular and attractive destination in nautical world, as newer and more luxurious yachts are coming to market.

Best time to rent a yacht in Croatia is the summer time, when weather is calm between May and September, which gives an opportunity for easy-going sailing charters. Dalmatian coast is characterized by hot dry summers and mild winters, with average temperatures between 23 and 30C. You can inform yourself on what to pack for different parts of the sailing season here .

Coast of Adriatic is additionally stacked with dreamy coves, wonderful old towns, bays and sunny beaches, where you can enjoy tasty local specialties like grilled fish, lamb on spit, prosciutto and top it with awesome wines. That’s why we are following that trend, and increasingly recommend sailing in Croatia to our returning clients. Choose one of the recommended routes  and enjoy.

If you book a sailboat, power boat or catamaran charter in Croatia for the first time, you obviously need to pay attention on regulations and skipper licenses requirements . To charter a boat, it is required to poses a valid nautical license, on top of navigation and sailing skills. Please contact us for detailed information regarding valid licenses accepted in Croatia. If the license you already have is not accepted, we can arrange a short sailing course where the necessary practical and theoretical skills can be acquired.

Stability and comfort of catamaran

Catamaran has two connected hulls for more stability. Though the principle on which a mono-hull and multihull sail is the same, the latter provides more stability, speed and comfort because of two hulls and two keels. When it comes to beam reach and downwind sailing, it sails faster than a mono-hull. A yacht is your perfect choice for a comfortable and easy going cruise for you, your friends and family. With 4 to 6 cabins that can accommodate 8 to 12 persons and a large main deck outside, catamaran will be the ideal choice.

Why rent a catamaran? If you like to sail, but also would love that extra space on board, catamaran charter Croatia is your best choice. We offer large selection of more than 600 different boats in all Adriatic sailing areas. With brands like Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, Nautitech, Bali and Catana Cats for rent, our fleet consists of brand new catamarans  and well maintained older yachts with a good price.

Although these vessels are easier to maneuver in tight spaces thanks to their two engine setup, they are still much wider than regular monohulls, so they require special attention while in marinas. In general, these yachts are faster and more stable than regular sailboats, which is something that is appreciated by both families and professional sailors alike.

What I have to do to book a catamaran?

So, you need not plan big for a Croatia vacation or when you want to rent a catamaran, as rental prices are not exorbitant as they used to be. You just decide where you want to charter from, departure date, arrival date and your price range. Rest of the planning will be done by the experts at Charter Catamaran Croatia in the most economical and convenient so that you enjoy a perfectly comfortable vacation. They will even let you have the full benefit of their early bird offers, last minute offers and other special offers, as applicable.

What is the right choice for you? We will be glad to assist in finding the right type of yacht, which will suit all your needs for perfect yachting vacation. Just send us an inquiry , and we will guide you through the whole catamaran charter Croatia booking process.

What our guests say about us.

catamaran rental dubrovnik

Set out thinking we would go bareboat but were glad we made the decision to go with a skipper. All the fun of skimming around the coastline without any of the responsibility. Our skipper Tony knew all the best places for swimming/exploring/playing. The islands are beautiful. A very relaxing and enjoyable day. Would definitely go back for more. Well done Dubrovnik Boat Rent!

Thank you Dubrovnik Boat Rent for a fantastic day on the sea. Such a nice and perfect boat for a day out on the sea. Thank you for taking really good care of us!

This trip was so amazing We did it twice – once with family and the second time with my boyfriend. The crew made a point of ensuring we didn’t see the same things twice and each experience was entirely different.

ELAPHITE ISLANDS BOAT TOUR FROM DUBROVNIK

Elaphite islands are our most popular tour! This is a small archipelago of several islands of which 3 are inhabited. While visiting Callamotta, we like to have a  swim and dive in the Blue cave which is, by many, the most interesting attraction on the island. Lopud island is a car-free zone, full of small charming beaches. Most popular is sandy beach Šunj. Also great choice for seafood restaurant where local family will do its best to prepare traditional meals for you. Third island is Šipan, biggest island, there you can find many small churches, few monasteries and amazing restaurants where our boat “drives in”!

How we work?

After you select the boat and tour, we will arrange all details with you and our drivers and skippers. We will come to your accommodation with our car and take you to the boat. There is our skipper waiting for you, who will introduce himself and the tour details. If you wish to change some details and spend more time exploring caves for instance we will tailor this for you since all of our tours are flexible and private.
