Sailing with the Community
2023 Sailing Club of the Year - (category A)
2023 Male Sailor of the Year - Bruce McCraken
Visitors to our Club will find us right in the heart of Williamstown, perfectly situated close to shops, entertainment, and the vibrant social life, all while enjoying fantastic views of the city and the Westgate Bridge. Just 15 minutes away from the city by car and easily accessible via public transport, our club is a convenient and welcoming destination for all.
At HBYC, we believe in inclusivity and warmly welcome people of all ages and backgrounds from the community around us. Whether you're an experienced sailor or just curious to try, our doors are open to everyone. Sailing offers numerous health benefits, from physical activity to mental well-being, and provides a unique opportunity to connect with nature and get up close with the wildlife on the bay. You don’t need to be wealthy to enjoy sailing. If you're interested in social sailing or crewing, simply contact our club to get started. For your first time out, just bring sunscreen, a hat, and a warm jacket, and you’ll be all set for an unforgettable experience on the water.
Our club boasts an exciting racing, cruising and social calendar, and we are always keen to encourage non-sailors to discover the joy of this sport. The Twilight Series on Wednesday and Thursday evenings runs from October to March, offering a perfect time for the community to join in on the late afternoon social race, which typically lasts 1-2 hours depending on the weather. During the winter months, our very popular Brass Monkeys Series sees around 40 club boats regularly participating, keeping the spirit of sailing alive year-round. The Club also hosts many social events during the years for sailors and social members, including live music events, cruising dinners, and many family-friendly events, such as a Halloween party.
Local community groups often use our amazing club facilities, including a newly renovated hall, meeting rooms, and commercial kitchen open to all.
With a proud history spanning over 135 years, our Club continues to foster a friendly culture and has seen significant development in our clubhouse, yard, marina, and sailing programs.
We invite you to be a part of our thriving community and experience all that sailing has to offer.
privileged to be on the lands of the Yalukit-willam peoples…
