In their small way, model sailing boats make the world a better place for all of us.

Our Origin:

Will Lesh is the founder, designer, and owner of Tippecanoe Boats. Will grew up with a classic Jacrim Seaworthy model sailing yacht which he sailed for many summers on Lake Tippecanoe along with his sister who also had a beautiful Keystone pond yacht.

“I have a 100 ton license. I built my own 24 foot sailboat and sailed it across the Atlantic. I own a 34 foot cruising sloop, a laser, two MC Scows, a Hobie 14, a windsurfer, a 420, my 24 foot trans-Atlantic sloop, a 12 foot laminated mahogany sailing dinghy, 5 kayaks and 2 canoes (also two 37 foot steel sailboats in process). I am passionate about sailing boats and human powered boats of all sizes. But I still love sailing the model boats, they are so fun and beautiful and bring the joy of sailing alive in a very special way. In fact, I think I sail and race our model boats more frequently than I use my full sized boats! You can count on every one of our Tippecanoe boats, free-sailing toy boats and sophisticated radio control boats, to sail exceptionally well. I guarantee it!” – Will Lesh, Founder and Designer

Ships have played a crucial role in shaping the course of human history. From battleships to warships , these formidable vessels have navigated through treacherous seas, engaged in fierce battles, and transported goods and people across the globe. Throughout history, there have been numerous historic ships that have left their mark on the world and continue to fascinate us to this day.

One of the most famous historic ships is the HMS Victory , a British warship that played a pivotal role in the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Under the command of Admiral Horatio Nelson, the HMS Victory helped secure a decisive victory for the British Navy against the combined forces of France and Spain. The ship, with its distinctive three masts and over 100 cannons, has been preserved and is now a popular tourist attraction in Portsmouth, UK.

The USS Constitution , also known as ‘Old Ironsides,’ is another iconic historic ship. This wooden frigate was commissioned by the United States in 1797 and played a significant role in the War of 1812. Its impressive firepower and sturdy construction earned it the nickname ‘Old Ironsides’ after withstanding cannon fire from the British Navy. Today, the USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship in the world and is docked in Boston Harbor as a museum ship.

The sinking of the Titanic in 1912 remains one of the most infamous maritime disasters in history. The luxury liner was deemed unsinkable and was equipped with the latest technology and amenities. However, it tragically collided with an iceberg on its maiden voyage and sank, resulting in the loss of over 1,500 lives. The sinking of the Titanic highlighted the need for stricter safety regulations and sparked advancements in ship design and safety measures.

The Mary Rose , a Tudor era warship, is a significant archaeological find that sheds light on the advanced shipbuilding techniques of the 16th century. The ship was the pride of the English Navy and played a crucial role in the battle against the French Navy in 1545. However, it sunk during the battle and was rediscovered in the 1970s off the coast of Portsmouth, UK. The preservation and excavation of the Mary Rose have provided valuable insights into Tudor maritime history.

From ancient wooden boats to modern steel behemoths, historic ships serve as a testament to the advancements in shipbuilding technology and the courage of sailors who sailed them into battles and uncharted waters. • History of the ship: The Atlantic was built in 1903 by Townsend and Downey shipyard, and designed by William Gardner, and Frederick Maxfield Hoyt(yacht designer) for Wilson Marshall. The three-masted schooner was skippered by Charlie Barr who was accompanied by navigator and tactician Frederick Maxfield Hoyt when it set the record for fastest transatlantic passage by a monohull in the 1905 Kaiser's Cup race. The record remained unbroken for nearly 100 years.
