47 Molokai Power Catamaran

Is the Aquila 47 Molokai Power Catamaran a luxury catamaran with serious fishing chops? Or is it a serious fishing catamaran with luxurious appointments and accommodations? That’s for you to decide.

One thing that is certain is that the Aquila 47 Molokai is the first catamaran of its kind. Until now, if you wanted a center console catamaran with the speed, ride and fishability required for overnight runs to the canyons, banks or islands, your sleeping accommodations were going to consist of a beanbag on deck or, at best, an airbed on the console floor.

The Aquila 47 Molokai, though, combines real offshore fishing chops with not only a head and shower but also a spacious, air-conditioned stateroom with a queen-sized island berth. Two entry doors provide easy access, while large overhead and side windows flood the cabin with natural light during the day and let you stargaze from your bed at night.

Powered by twin 600 hp or quad 400 hp Mercury Verado outboards, the Aquila 47 Molokai delivers thrilling performance and a smooth, predictable ride, thanks to her aggressive twin-step hull design and strong, lightweight vacuum-infused construction. Joystick piloting makes close-quarters maneuvering a breeze, while a 1,048-gallon (3,967 Liter) fuel capacity brings any horizon within reach.

Underway, seven protected helm seats in two air-conditioned rows keep your crew safe and comfortable, while state-of-the-art Raymarine electronics, C-Zone digital switching and a custom-tuned Fusion audio system put information and entertainment at your fingertips.

On the fishing grounds, pressurized livewells fed by a Hooker sea chest keep your bait lively, while cavernous fish boxes accommodate the largest fish and longest trips. Electric reel outlets provide power for deep-dropping, and the carbon fiber hardtop is factory reinforced for outriggers and custom towers.

So, where will you go with your Aquila 47 Molokai?

Archipelago 47

THE ULTIMATE EXPLORER CATAMARAN

is the 47 foot (14.5m) ocean-capable Archipelago 47. Bridging the gap between performance, range and luxury accommodation, the Archipelago 47 offers the ultimate adventure. Born from the highest quality design and engineering, the Archipelago forty-seven offers ultimate performance, functionality and comfort.

From the outset we wanted the Archipelago 47 to feel like home. Many yachts with a high-level of sea-keeping ability are basic and functional, and lack the luxury feel of a family cruiser; the Archipelago 47 changes this. The yacht perfectly marries the functionality of an offshore cruiser – with easily accessible and serviceable systems – with the homely feel of a family cruiser. As we employed this philosophy from the start we are able to offer features that allow you to cruise for longer, whilst still maintaining the comfort for your family and friends.

Boating shouldn’t just be for the summer

Most family cruisers are totally impractical in the winter because they have not thought through this simple issue: light. You cannot safely navigate from a brightly-lit helmstation. When conditions demand, the Archipelago 47 features a unique saloon divide which allows the helm to safely navigate the boat from a dark, well-equipped wheelhouse, whilst family and friends can enjoy a warm lounge environment with underfloor heating, AV and galley, to keep them entertained and cosy on the coldest winter nights.

Saona 47 catamaran.

The Saona 47 is a luxury cruising catamaran, a product of Berret Racoupeau Yacht Design. Marking its 40 years in production, Fountaine Pajot launched the Saona 47 with all the distinguishing features of the shipyard in April 2017.

Table of Contents

DESIGN – INTERIOR & EXTERIOR

The Saona 47 is particularly known for its characteristic multi-decks, offering three different levels starting from the flybridge lounge or sunbathing area and ending on the aft cockpit with an elevated helm station on the level in between.

The upper deck lounge of the Saona 47 offers great views of the sea and the sky along with the comfort of lounge mattresses and cushions. It is large and spacious and ideal for a family to relax at the end of a tough day.

The helm station of the Saona 47 is unlike many other catamarans as its methodically placed winches and lines allow two to three people to work simultaneously in peace without getting in the way of each other.  The helm seat is generously wide and comfortable so the helmsperson does not necessarily have to be alone. The station is also integrated with the lower part of the saloon which means that anyone working the lines or steering the boat is not completely isolated and communication is still possible. The helm station is large enough for all the instruments to be placed neatly with everything also being in reach. The view from the station is good as all corners of the boat can be seen with the exception of the aft port and the sails are also visible through the window in the bimini.

Owing to its large size, the cockpit of the Saona 47 can be termed as the main living area on the boat. It is spacious and comfortable, offering multiple sitting and lounging options. With the L-shaped settee surrounding a large cockpit table and a fridge for storage of replenishments, the cockpit can also serve as the primary dining area. Although protected by a hard-top bimini, the cockpit is airy and bright and comes with a built-in BBQ which is smartly positioned to blow the smoke away from the main area.

Lastly, the foredeck of the Saona 47 is spacious and boasts a long trampoline but it does not have a dedicated sitting area or lounge. The anchor locker in the foredeck is large enough to store not only the anchor but also other equipment and, along with the water tank, is placed in a way to ensure that all the weight is pulled back and centralized.

The Saona 47 integrates the saloon with the cockpit so well as to give an impression of one large, unobstructed area. Despite the cockpit stealing the spotlight in terms of lounging and seating area, the saloon is modern, neat and cozy. The light wood finishing on the furniture helps in achieving an open yet inviting ambiance. It offers spectacular views of the outside with windows all around and multiple, forward opening hatches.

The galley, located between the saloon and the cockpit, is large and L-shaped with easy and simple access to both the living areas. It comes fully equipped with a double sink, a microwave oven, a large gas oven, and a four-burner gas stove along with a two-tier drawer fridge and a multi-drawer freezer. The galley has plenty of storage space in the form of lockers but also underneath the floor, not to mention the island which also serves as an additional countertop.

The saloon itself has a comfortable, L-shaped settee wrapped around a table that can easily seat up to 8 people. The table can be converted into a cocktail table and can also be lowered further down to turn into a bed for additional guests staying over.

The navigation station is angled and its seat is integrated with the settee. The station is fully functional and takes advantage of the full-forward view offered by the windows for a peaceful, indoor night watch.

ACCOMMODATIONS

The Saona 47 is available in two layouts. The Owner’s version has 3-cabins with the entire port hull dedicated to the master suite while the charter version offers 5-cabins with en-suite for each of the four double guest cabins too. The master suite can be termed as the key feature of the Saona 47 as the space that it offers is unlike any other on a catamaran its size.

In the owner’s version, the master suite has a big double bed with access all around. The windows filter a lot of sunlight and the opening hatches ensure ventilation. There is plenty of storage space in the form of cupboards and drawers and the area between the head and the bedroom can also be used as a space for office work. The bathroom is unusually large with a separate toilet and shower. Although there is no door separating the head form the cabin, the shower glass and the toilet door do not let the need for one to be felt. The other two guest cabins offer a queen-sized bed and en-suite facilities each, making the catamaran a particularly habitable one with considerable freedom to have guests staying over.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

The overall length of Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 is 13.94 meters and it has a maximum beam of 7.70 meters. The unloaded displacement of the vessel is approximately 14.7 tonnes. It has a total sail area of 77 sq. meters and a genoa area of 52 sq. meters. The Saona 47 has a total freshwater capacity of 700 liters and a total fuel capacity of 940 liters, and is powered by two 40 HP diesel engines.

PRICE RANGE

The price of the Saona 47 varies from $850,000 to $900,000.

In conclusion, the Saona 47 is an exceedingly livable boat ideal for families who want to experience offshore cruising while also entertaining guests and living an upbeat family life. Its spacious offerings, especially the owner’s version, are quite popular amongst those who value leisure over speed and plan on spending most of their time on anchorage.

47 foot catamaran

Catana is based in the Catalan region of southern France and is one of the pioneers of the performance cruising catamaran market. You could say that the Catana 47 is regarded as a something of a classic.

They built the 47 for many years- so this is a well proven boat, designed by Multihull specialist Christophe Barreau to replace the 471, and this catamaran has been tested many times on circumnavigations. The design benefited from continuous improvement over the years: the last version has more carbon fiber than older examples and they are produced from updated molds for the hulls and deck- the boats still have a familiar profile (the latest iteration is a bit more angular and “muscly”), with tall twin daggerboards, open helm stations aft (a Catana trademark) and a powerful rig and sail plan.

There are plenty of options in this length of boat like the Knysna 500 SE and the Nautitechs, but if you like a bit of speed the Catana 47 should be on your radar.

The boats were built for strength with the emphasis on keeping the weight down to maximise speed through the water as opposed to boats like the Elba 45 catamaran from Fountaine Pajot which is positioned more on the comfort side of things. Carbon fiber and other composites are used in high loaded areas to beef up the vinylester/polyester laminate. The structure is vacuum-bagged during construction, with the hull and deck are both cored with closed-cell foam.

The joinery inside is also built using cored laminates to keep the weight down. All in all, Catana has managed to shave off around 700 kg off the 47’s predecessor. But it´s still a comfy boat, although you are not going to get as much room on her as you would on a Fountaine Pajot or a Lagoon. But you´ll get to your destination faster.

47 foot catamaran

One benefit of those aft helms is the deck and cockpit space you get on a Catana 47. The twin aft helm stations move the sailing away from  the living area, and the trademark central winches handle most of the sail lines.

The Bridle System. There is no traveller- the main is controlled via a bridle with two sheets, which you trim on the twin winches aft that sit amidships. This takes some getting used to, but it’s a system that Catana owners swear by – it’s an excellent way to tweak your trim and the force from any accidental gybes is minimised with this set up.

High Quality Gear The blocks, cleats, stoppers, winches are all high quality and oversized if anything. This boat gives the impression that it has been built with plenty of safety margin up its sleeves. One great feature of the 47 is that all sails can be managed from the cockpit: you don’t need to go to the mast foot for reefing.

Visibility can be a problem in the marina as the throttles are on the starboard helm only. This is similar to the Nautitechs (although this manufacturer does include throttles on both helms as an expensive option)- the solution is to come along the starboard side when docking or post someone to watch the port side.

Sailing Feel Another advantage of those aft helms is the direct response you get and this catamaran feels quick. She accelerates fast, especially if you keep the weight off her, and she hits top speeds in the high teens. If you are the type of sailor who enjoys trimming the sails, then you will enjoy this boat, as she rewards you with bursts of speed when she’s well set up. With those dagger-boards you’ll be able to make good headway into the wind as well, with the speed up and the leeway down.

So what´s the secret? Why is she so nippy? Well, weight saving of course, but also a square-topped main and 145-percent genoa that both get the boat slipping through the water in light to moderate breezes, and a sail plan that provides plenty of reefing options for windier conditions. The Tulip-shaped bows cut nicely through the chop when you are heading upwind and they have plenty of buoyancy forward when you are heading off it. The dagger-boards give you up to 8 feet of draft, which means less leeway on a close reach. Pull them up for a 3.5-foot boards up draft and you have less drag for when you are heading on a broad reach.

Under Power

The Catana 47 comes with twin 40HP engines and you should easily hit 7 knots at 2,200 rpm. Many owners alternate the engines to save fuel- you will still be motoring along at around 6 knots with one engine at 2400 rpm, so not much less speed over ground for a big saving in fuel consumption. If you really need to get somewhere fast under power, you’ll get 9 knots out of her with both engines purring along at 3000 rpm. As with most catamarans, she’s very manoeuvrable in the marina, but as we mentioned earlier, you just need to remember the reduced visibility of those aft helms. Coming in stern first is a breeze of course.

The saloon is well proportioned with a big sofa area wrapped around a table, a forward facing nav station to port and an aft facing galley with a “sink and a half” tucked into the port corner of the saloon. Visibility is good and the overall feel is light, bright and spacious. Compared to other more “open designs” like the Nautitech, you get relatively more room in the saloon than the cockpit. The saloon and cockpit are on different levels which, if you are used to more modern designs, takes some getting used to. Watch your head!

There’s plenty of room down below, and it´s light and well ventilated with good headroom. Your options are to go for a 3 cabin owner’s version with a full double berth and table aft, lots of stowage space amidships and a comfortable head with a separate shower forward. Close the curved sliding door for privacy.

The port hull has a single queen berth forward and either a double or twin berths aft (convertible twin berths). There are no showers in the port hull which might not go down so well with your guests.

Polar Diagram

47 foot catamaran

There’s no great revolution in the last Catana 47 design- this is a well proven performance catamaran that has evolved over the years and remains a very attractive boat in this category. The Catana Group seem to be focusing on their Bali brand in terms of development which is where the volume is.

I’d love to see an evolved 47 design that takes cues from the newer Catana 53 which has a more open feeling between the cockpit and saloon. For the moment, however, the only new boats in the Catana range are the Catana 53 and the Ocean Class which is another 50 footer with a bulkhead steering position

If you are shopping around for alternatives, you might also want to take a look at the ITA 14.99 or the Outremer 45 – there´s plenty of choice in this market niche. And if you want some serious speed in this size and have deep pockets, then read our Gunboat 48 review – it´s one of our all time favourite catamarans. Let’s just hope that Catana rediscover their roots in the performance market.

Saona 47, ultimate bliss at helm

Performance and speed on board the saona 47.

Let's start with facts: The Saona 47 can perform at 17kn with a 20 knots true wind speed.

Fountaine Pajot really optimized the weight to volume ratio on this awesome catamaran in order to enhance speed. And because the Saona 47 is balanced, she will provide you a thrilling sailing experience on every point of sail .

You will enjoy sailing her, as all is designed to feel intuitive at helm .

Conveniently completing the range between a 45' and a 50' catamaran, the Saona 47 offers great performance, generous space and allows short handed sailing.  We have to say Caribbean Multihulls' team has a bit of a crush on her since she was launched.

You'll spot the Saona 47 at first sight

You can't miss her! The design of the Fountaine Pajot Saona 47 is easily recognizable and her strong lines and overall design provide her an elegant look . You will appreciate that same feeling once on board, whether inside or outside.

While the outside lines are assertive, the interior atmosphere is soft . There is plenty of natural light inside thanks to the saloon panoramic windows and skylights, whereas cabins benefit from large windows and hatches.

Fun and relaxation everywhere outside

'Wow!'  That's certainly the most common effect amongst visitors stepping on board the Saona 47. She was the first of Fountaine Pajot sailing catamarans to offer such optimized relaxation areas , and has inspired the very latest models.

The surprising feature on this model is the large platform at aft , which is awesome for watersports activities, to sit or lay in just above water level, or even to lift the tender on or put it back in the water. You can even get the crew on board your dinghy before you splash it, making things much easier for many. No need to get the outboard off as the platform can bear the weight.

With a large sofa and two sunbeds, the flybridge is very spacious . Perfect for chilling and enjoying the view, accompanying the skipper, enjoying some reading while soaking up sun, having drinks or a snack, etc.

That's not all! Allowing three large sunbeds, the front deck is also a very convivial area.

Pleasant all day long, the cockpit is really friendly and practical. Opening seamlessly onto the galley, it is also equipped for great moments around the dinner table which can receive up to 10 guests and is sourrounded by large comfortable sofas. On the starboard side, you may fit a cockpit fridge, and at aft an optional integrated barbecue.

How is it to live aboard this Fountaine Pajot 47'?

Saona 47 cosy and practical saloon.

The whole of the catamaran interior bathes in with natural light and benefits from great ventilation throughout.

The galley communicates directly with the cockpit with a large sliding window. This corner also features an kitchen island bench which offers great counterspace and valuable storage.

Opposite the galley is a very large L-shaped settee area , which can be customized either with a coffee table or a dinner table, also convertible into a double berth. Facing the ocean, the chart table seat is on the end of the settee.

Luxurious cabins

In any of the configurations, the starboard side offers two double guest cabins, one with an island bed facing the ocean. Both cabins have a large window for a great view, storage, cabinets and en-suite bathroom. The forepeak can be fitted with a crew cabin.

Each cabin offers a great view through large windows and allows to open part of them and hatches for some breeze ventilation.

In Maestro configuration - Owners' configuration

The Owner cabin of the Saona 47 is just fantastic and lays in the whole portside hull. The en-suite bathroom has an italian-style spacious open shower and a separate head.

Quintet version - Perfect for charter

This configuration of the Saona 47 offers two cabins with bathrooms on starboard, and three cabins on port side. In the middle of the port side is an additional cabin for crew or children with en-suite full bathroom. Furthermore, the aft portside cabin has direct access to the cockpit for more privacy.

Yachting - With the Tanna 47, Fountaine-Pajot rejuvenates the Saona 47

July 15 2021

Written by Yachting Art English Edition

The Tanna 47 is a new model that we did not expect from Fountaine-Pajot! On closer inspection, however, the Tanna 47 is not so new, consisting of a large modernization of the Saona 47 launched in 2017, the 46-foot catamaran in the Fountaine-Pajot range, which is admittedly facing strong competition in this strategic segment.

Yachting - With the Tanna 47, Fountaine-Pajot rejuvenates the Saona 47

With the crisis and competitive pressure, the Fountaine-Pajot Group has adopted an original strategy to revitalize the range in recent months, which consists of inserting important vintages, recovering new commercial names, on units considered strategic and located mid-life.

This was the case for the 39-foot catamaran Lucia 4 0, reconditioned as Isla 4 0, then the MY4S motoryacht, an optimized MY37 without flybridge, but also for Dufour Yachts , another brand of the group, with the Dufour 61 , a modernized 63, then the Dufour 3 2, an ex-Dufour 31 0.

Each time, the approach, which is very rational, is the same, which amounts to keeping the hulls to a minimum, in order to update some of the deck plans - but not always - and some of the interior fittings, with some marginal work on the exterior design.

This approach comes directly from the automotive world, with one exception: the commercial names of the cars do not change during these mid-life redesigns.

This strategy allows Fountaine-Pajot to have a renewed offer, without ruining itself in R&D, in order to fight in the multihull and monohull sailing markets, by responding to the constant launches of new competing models.

With the Tanna 47, Fountaine-Pajot wants to strengthen its position in the 46-foot catamaran market, facing the fearsome Lagoon 46 , Bali 4.6 and Nautitech 46.

From its predecessor, the Saona 47, the Tanna 47 is distinguished by a redesigned nacelle, particularly in the galley, by new furniture with rounded lines, very pleasant and less massive, by some modifications to the flybridge, whose lounge space is doubled, and by the integration of an optional XXL solar panel surface.

The mainsail gains 2m2 on the occasion, 77m2 vs 75m2, and the genoa remains unchanged: 52m2.

With a few styling changes, the Saona 47 is significantly updated, and the yachtsman has on board the Tanna 47 , new welcome features. Features that result in a definite weight gain: the Tanna 47 weighs 14.7 tons, vs. 13.8 tons for the Saona 47.

Decoding: The Tanna 47 allows Fountaine-Pajot to improve the attractiveness of its product offer on the 46-foot catamaran market. The fact remains that the acquisition of Dufour Yachts, positioned in a very competitive monohull sailing market, with brands such as Bénéteau, Jeanneau, Bavaria, Hanse, Dehler, etc., consumes precious and costly resources that are no longer allocated to the multihull market, the group's core business. By trying to do too much, we do less well. Was the acquisition of Dufour a good strategic decision?

We booked the 47’ catamaran for 6 hours for 8 of us. Captain Sergio and crew treated us like kings.  The lunch cooked on board was simply spectacular and one empty beverage was replaced before you took your last slip.  Spotlessly clean boat. Warm and friendly crew.  Great day of sailing and sea life spotting. It was perfect!

We absolutely loved this charter! From the time of booking to the actual experience everything was just perfect! The crew was extremely accommodating, inclusive and fun! We had a group of 13 for my celebration and I highly recommend for any occasion!

I had originally booked the 75ft Hatteras for my 40th birthday. However, I was notified by Nicole 3 days before that the Hatteras was having engine trouble. Instead of waiting to see it would be fixed, Nicole upgraded our group to the 47ft Fountaine Pajot luxury catamaran at no additional cost. It was an amazing experience with an outstanding crew! We had a wonderful lunch prepared by our own private chef and they even surprised me with a birthday cake! Communication was great from day one would most definitely use them again in the future.

We had the 47 foot catamaran with Captain Sergio and his crew this past week, and it was AMAZING.  We loved the tour we had in previous years, but this was a whole different level of both boat and experience overall.  Can’t recommend them enough.

47 foot catamaran

The Catana 47’s design brief is straightforward: The big, powerful French catamaran is intended for the performance-oriented cruising sailor who wishes to circumnavigate or undertake a similar extended voyage. Indeed, once CW ‘s Boat of the Year judging panel took turns trying to peg the speedo, all agreed that this truly is a sailor’s sailboat.

The 47 was designed by Christophe Barreau to replace the 471. Six non-carbon boats were built before Catana began using carbon fiber in its infusion molding to reduce weight by approximately 1,500 pounds from earlier hulls.

The boat we sailed last fall on Chesapeake Bay sped off on a beam reach at nearly 9 knots in just over 12 knots of breeze. With the boat sailing closehauled, the GPS speed over the ground still read in the high 7s, not bad for a cat with plush accommodations and all the gear and accoutrements—owners suite, two guest cabins, lavish galley, genset, watermaker, electric winches—that you’d expect to find on a vessel with a $900,000-plus price tag. And that rack-and-pinion Lewmar steering was smooth as silk.

The 47’s performance is due to a couple of factors. First, the square-topped main and 145-percent genoa provide the requisite sail area to get the boat moving in light to moderate breezes, yet still offer abundant reefing options for more interesting conditions. Tulip-shaped bows achieve a fine entry when you’re sailing on the wind and lots of forward buoyancy when running off it. Twin daggerboards, when lowered, provide up to 8 feet of draft, which translates into lateral resistance and lift for sailing to weather; when fully raised, the 3.5-foot draft creates less drag for downwind work.

The building materials also enhance underway prowess. The laminated hulls are a sandwich of infused Airex closed-cell foam, glass, and polyester and vinylester resin (for osmosis protection), with Twaron forward for collision protection and below the waterline for strength, and carbon fiber at critical points to take chainplate and structural loads. The deck is also an infused foam sandwich, and the inner skin of the bimini top, cabin top and structural bulkheads are built from infused carbon fiber and foam to reduce weight aloft.

While inspecting the boat, CW’s BOTY judges noted an exposed electrical panel and other electrical issues that caused them to pause, and they also felt that engine controls should be present at both of the helm stations, set outboard on either hull, as visibility to port under power was a challenge.

That said, sitting at those helms, with all sail-control lines led aft to a pair of powerful winches amidships and sheet winches near at hand, I couldn’t help but imagine clicking off the miles on a long tropical passage.

In the words of BOTY judge Alvah Simon, “I like sailing the Catana 47 because everything was exactly where it needed to be.” Enough said.

This Speedy 70-Foot Power Catamaran Is Designed to Cut Through Rough Waters

Back in April, Storm Kathleen slammed into the west coast of Ireland as a fearsome Force 10 gale, packing 70 mph winds and 15-foot waves. While locals sandbagged their homes and prepared for the worst, Frank Kowalski decided it was a swell day for a boat ride.

As owner of Safehaven Marine in County Cork, he’d just launched his brand-new, 70-foot T-2000 Voyager all-weather power catamaran. What Kathleen offered was a chance to put the new super-cat through its paces.

Jeremy Allen White Says 'The Bear' Season 4 Will Start Filming 'Early Next Year'

“We knew from scale-model tests that she should be able to tackle waves of more than 65 feet high,” Kowalski tells Robb Report . “But you never know until you’re out there. In the height of the storm, she just shrugged off the waves and weather and performed flawlessly.”

Evolved from Safehaven’s 75-foot XVS20 monohull launched in 2018, Kowalski used his expertise in building commercial, work-boat power catamarans to design the twin-hulled T-2000 Voyager to offer speed with stability.

“The stability in beam seas is what’s key here,” he says. “While we were out recently in a Force 8 with 40-plus knot winds and 12-foot seas, we were able to stop and leave the boat to drift while we retrieved a drone. It just took the waves on the beam with ease. In a monohull, it would have been rolling so badly you couldn’t have stood on the deck.”

Then there’s the sheer velocity that comes with twin, scalpel-thin hulls slicing through waves. With the T-2000’s pair of 1,550 hp MAN V12 diesels driving France Helices SD5 surface drives, the Safehaven can hit a top speed of 57 mph.

“It’s just the most amazing sight, standing on the stern, watching these huge roostertails behind,” Kowalski adds. “We’ve also incorporated retracting swim platforms so you can see the props spinning on the surface, plus valved exhausts that switch between silenced and straight-through. The noise from those V12s is sensational.”

While Safehaven has been building its Wildcat range of 40-, 53-, and 60-foot power cats for everything from oil-rig support, crew transfer, and even as a military cruiser for Britain’s Royal Navy, they were always pure, no-frills work boats. With this new T-2000, Kowalski is looking to appeal to private buyers searching for something a little different.

His hull No. 1 demonstrator boat has all-diamond-quilted marine leather, well-finished cabinetry, colored LED lighting, and below-deck accommodations for six in three cabins. Hull No. 2—already sold and due for completion in the next 18 months—will up the luxury factor.

“It’s going to a client in the Middle East who plans to use it for just himself and his wife,” says Kowalski. The client has specified a full-width owner’s suite with a central, king-size bed and oversized his-and-hers bathrooms and closets in each hull. “He also wants to go fast— very fast,” Kowalski continues. “So we’ll install twin 2,000 hp MAN V12s, again with surface drives, and a central hydrofoil to reduce drag. The plan is for it to hit a top speed in excess of 69 mph.”

The new T-2000 is also designed to go the distance. With the 2,900-gallon tanks, it has a range of more than 1,000 nautical miles at 34.5 mph, and 1,700 nautical miles at 18 mph. Throttle back to 12 mph and range increases to 3,000-plus nautical miles.

Much of this is down to the yacht’s symmetrical, semi-wave-piercing hulls, made of a carbon-fiber-composite construction, with inverted lower bow sections and a double-chine arrangement that projects spray clear of the boat. The hydrofoil in mid position also means that, at speed in calmish seas, the T-2000 rides with half its hull length out of the water.

To eliminate waves slamming into the bridge deck windshield, Kowalski moved the pilothouse farther back. It also makes for a sleeker profile, giving the T-2000 the look of a single-hull sportsyacht.

As for creature comforts, the main, open-plan salon features an L-shaped Corian-topped galley, with a U-shaped dinette opposite. To enjoy the action, there are bucket-style, shock-absorbing seats for the captain and copilot, a wraparound sofa on the port side, and a single bucket seat to starboard.

The entire helm area gets flooded with light courtesy of the four-panel, angled windshield and quartet of fixed skylights above. To see the boat’s hydrofoil in action, the bridge has a glass panel in the floor that’s also designed for viewing marine life below at night. Most of the windows have half-inch-thick toughened panels to shrug off cascading water.

In finer weather than typically found on coastal Ireland, the T-2000 has a small flybridge with a helm station and sun-lounge area up top, plus a covered stern cockpit with sofas and table for alfresco dining.

This storm-tested, metallic-red demonstrator is available for around $3.35 million.
