A New Generation of Yacht Building
Crescent Custom Yachts is located in the magnificent setting of the Canadian Pacific Northwest, a part of the world renowned for spectacular boating along its breath-taking coast.
With a six-bay fully enclosed shipbuilding facility, Crescent is able to have multiple projects underway at all times. The 330 Ton Marine Travelift assures easy and dependable access to the docks located on the protected waterway of the Fraser River, minutes away from open ocean.
A specialized team of craftspeople with hundreds of years of experience, a management team with international yacht building experience from Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Turkey, and England, and a favourable Canadian dollar, make Crescent well positioned to build outstanding yachts that will meet the needs of owners wanting a custom-built yacht.
The Crescent brand was acquired in 2015 by Tim Charles, the grandson of Crescent’s founder, Jack Charles (1923-2018).
The company was started in 1985 by Jack Charles in Crescent Beach, a small oceanside community in British Columbia, Canada. A busy order book facilitated a move to a new state-of-the-art shipbuilding facility in Richmond, a suburb of Vancouver, BC. At this facility, Crescent produced numerous world-renowned vessels over 100′ that can be found in ports around the world.
In the early 2000’s the Crescent brand was sold to a group of investors. After that time the company languished and no vessels were launched under the Crescent name.
After Crescent was sold to investors, Tim Charles started his own company Platinum Marine and took over the former Crescent shipbuilding facility. Platinum specializes in yacht refits and transformational overhauls with a workforce of over 100 skilled employees. Platinum retains a core of the original craftspeople who worked at Crescent Custom Yachts before it was sold.
An opportunity presented itself for Tim to acquire the Crescent brand. He added the Crescent brand to Platinum’s family of marine companies.
With the relaunch of the Crescent marque, the new company’s goal is to again achieve the world status of an elite custom yacht builder with an emphasis on the meticulous craftsmanship that the name is known for. The award winning Crescent 145 Muchos Mas was launched in late 2016 with a debut at the Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show in 2017. Current vessels under active construction and available for sale are the Crescent 117 and Crescent 130. The Crescent 164 is under construction and sold. It is the largest private yacht to be built in Canada. In design stage are the 110, 115, and 155.
Crescent Custom Yachts is a private company with sole ownership by Tim Charles. Platinum Marine is also located at the same location with the added benefit of collaboration and sharing of resources. Sister companies include Tactical Custom Boats , a line of high performance aluminum boats for the recreational and commercial markets, CCY Marine , a boat house building construction company, Milltown Marine Services , a full-service recreational boat repair company located at Milltown Marina in Vancouver, and WrapBoats.ca , a marine vinyl wrap exterior/interior service for boats and yachts.

Rather than waiting for a new-build, it is possible to take an older yacht with ‘good bones’ and create your dream yacht. Updating a 20-year-old Lady Diane to become Northern Dream was a major project.
NUTMEG – 63’ NORDHAVN
It was time for more than the usual ‘shave and a haircut’ – Nutmeg was hauled out into our climate-controlled facility to have the hull fully stripped of exsisting antifouling coatings. Followed by the application of Interprotect coatings and antifouling. The main, wing, and thruster propellers were prepped and treated with Propspeed.
WHITECAP Refit (2021-22)
The decision to do one upgrade sometimes demands planning another.
In the case of Whitecap, fuel tanks are located outboard of the engines, so the obvious time to replace them was as older engines were to be removed. To facilitate engine removal, the galley was dismantled to access the engine room via the salon sole.

 HOWARD CHEN Read the Interview of Howard Chen, Founder of Selene Yachts WHAT SELENE OWNERS SAY…We wanted a compact yacht because we will load her on a cargo ship to explore new playing grounds like the Pacific Northwest or Northern European seas… It’s easily doable with a 42′ boat, and at a reasonable price. We want to see our new boat like a life enhancer and not as a financial or technical burden. This is why sizing the project, refining the specifications and a sound cooperation with the shipyard is essential, and Selene’s teams were ready to help from day one. We have found our perfect yacht… I spent ten years as a full time vessel master and live-aboard owner. After obtaining my United States Coast Guard Master’s license, I spent countless hours cruising the waters of the San Juan Islands and the Canadian Gulf Islands. Our constant, and the place we call “home” is M.V. Ellipsis, a Selene 60 Ocean Yacht delivered in 2007. We boat now without boundaries and enjoy navigating the rugged open waters off the west coast as much as we do the Inside Passage. Summer and fall 2018, we will explore the Columbia and Snake Rivers, getting some experience with the locks on the river. 2019 should find us heading south in the Pacific, spending time cruising Mexico. Even though my Selene 38 is the smallest in the range we’ve covered more than 20,000 miles in SE Asia; starting in Hong Kong, down to Vietnam and Borneo, then across to Thailand, later south to Malaysia and Singapore. Everywhere I looked I was impressed with the quality. These are not production boats, but customized, handcrafted, solid vessels. Thank you for building us a beautiful and well founded boat! CS Yachts (Canadian Sailcraft)Founded by Paul Tennyson who began building the CORNICE dinghy as part of his reinforced plastics business. In 1971 CS dropped dinghy production and began building keelboats under a new name, CS Yachts. In its best year, 1986, CS built 175 30s, 33s, and 36s and the company moved to an expanded 100,000 sq. ft. facility the following year. Costantino argues — pretty bluntly, we have to say — that the crew and passengers should've anticipated the stormy conditions. "The passengers reported an absurd thing, namely that the storm came unexpected, suddenly," he said in the interview, per People . "It's not true. Everything was predictable. I have the weather charts in front of me here. Nothing came suddenly." "Ask yourself, why was no fisherman from Porticello out that night?" he added. "A fisherman reads the weather conditions and a ship doesn't? The disturbance was fully readable in all the weather charts." Batten DownTheir errors didn't end there, according to Costantino, who said in the interview that there would've been "zero risk" had the right maneuvers been made. The captain and crew, he further explained to the New York Times , should've turned on the engine, lifted anchor, steered the boat into the wind, and lowered the keel for extra stability, while the passengers should've been gathered in the deck's main hall. Another precaution would be shutting all the doors and hatches on the ship's side and stern. Costantino claimed that the Bayesian could list, or tilt to one side, to 75 degrees without capsizing, and shouldn't have sunk. But if some of those doors and hatches were left open, he told NYT , the ship could've taken on water too quickly. As it stands, it's unclear how many of these procedures were executed. The ship's captain, James Cutfield, survived the ordeal and was questioned by authorities, but has not spoken to the media. It's worth noting that Costantino's arguments could be seen as trying to exonerate his company of any wrongdoing. That being said, the speed at which a vessel of Bayesian's size and reputation sank has stunned sailors and investigators , who are trying to understand why most of the crew survived while six passengers perished.
