More importantly, for you aficionados, these are the songs you’ve been looking for. Finally, we are posting the hilarious list that really helped turn us on to the best in the YR genre. Unbelievably, the commentary on these songs and the pure genius of which songs made the list energized our thirst for the genre. In fact, literally every song we play made the list and certainly some go to the level of yacht-adjacent but we highly recommend perusing this article. Speaking of articles, check out our Florida adventure here.
To top it off, this list provides some videos and the classic moments that go with the song. The comedy is real and the power of those songs is tangible. You won’t find another list of yacht rock songs like out there. The author certainly crafted it with care and accuracy and we really appreciate weaving the music and life together. Honestly, you can’t read through the list without complete amusement, excitement and laughter. It feels so good to walk through these smooth cuts and see the music’s influence on our culture and what interesting stories are told. It’s meaningful. These songs reverberate with the joy that we as a band play these classic vinyl cuts.
Furthermore, click on this link to find a website that rates the top 100 yacht rock songs of all time. In addition, the commentary is brilliant! Lastly, consider it Anchors AWEIGH and you can thank us later!!!!! In fact, I’m sure many of these amazing tunes will make your new yachty playlist. Interestingly, we discovered this article back in 2014 and clung to the magic of these tunes that make smooth music really tick. Once you begin reading the list, it’ll be hard to put it down. These guys are dead on and the comedy and facts and background make it priceless.
Do yourself a favor and sit down for a deep dive into the genre. Certainly, check out 70’s soft rock and 80’s soft rock as much as they are covered in the list as well. Inasmuch, even if you start at number 100, you’ll surely make it to 50 and 30 and more. Ultimately, you can click the big link or The Hello Loser website to get to numbers 21 through 30 on the TOP 100 SONG LIST.

In fact, yacht rock has a distinct criteria that makes it float. In fact, they have a website you can check for the ultimate authority on what’s Yacht or Nyacht. Thus, it is aptly titled, YachtorNyacht.com. More importantly, there are elements that guide the selection of what makes the cut. The originators JD Ryznar, Hollywood Steve, Hunter Stair, and Dave Lyons generally say it’s polished jazzy, R&B music from 1976 to 1984. But let’s dive into the elements that the fellas use to vote on whether a song makes their list of authentic smooth songs.
Additionally, it’s that well produced complicated chord arrangement played by mainly the best session musicians of the time. Moreover, the songs contain crafty and intricate chord changes buoyed by lush harmonies and plenty of electric piano and saxophone. The yacht behind the rock derives from the ubiquitous nautical references in the lyrics and even the album covers. For example, Loggins and Messina at the helm of a sailboat for the album Full Sail. Or, simply the flamingo on the cover of Christopher Cross’ self titled album.
Now, in recent times, we’ve made much about the fact that as a live band, the music still has to groove. In fact, yacht rock songs can be quite mellow so the band does have to keep it poppin for our audiences. Ultimately, Yachty by Nature has found a great balance of those upbeat and mellow songs to keep the party rockin’. Of course, we’ve been so fortunate as a band to have so much with these songs and the great venues and crowds we play to! For your listening pleasure, we always recommend finding a great playlist on Spotify or some Yacht Rock Radio on Sirius/XM. Additionally, our friend Eddie Ganz at YR Radio brings the smooth like none other.
Yachty by Nature is always adding new tunes. In fact, it’s tough to pick the right song to put in the set, but we’re always experimenting. Additionally, we rely on our crowd to guide the choices and we LOVE to hear those thoughts. As you can see, we have a lot of music to cover and every shade of the rainbow within the genre of smooth music. Like captains going from port to port, we dabble into all kinds of waters.
Yachty songs occupy these certain elements but it certainly isn’t so linear. First, from soft rock to folk rock, the yacht genre encompasses some of those mellower hits. For example, the song Brandy is accepted by our followers but rejected by the Yacht Rock youtube series guys. But it represents something with yachty references and somewhere in the softer and folksy earlier 70’s. The line is drawn tight that Bread is too soft and Summer Breeze by Seals and Croft may be too early as well. But those songs are certainly adjacent and close to the heart of what we like to do. In fact, some of those artists emerge on the yacht like Jackson Browne, Carly Simon, and Rupert Holmes.
Now, there’s what we call Yacht Funk or R&B where we dip into some George Benson, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and even perform Warren G’s Regulate. The Yacht Prog can be seen in Toto, Ambrosia, Alan Parsons and even narrowly Crosby, Stills, and Nash. In fact, Yacht Country makes a splash from time to time. Certainly Islands in the Stream and the crossover country album of Lionel Richie gives you an idea of where it’s at. Jazz makes an appearance or two with George Benson’s Breezin’ and Smooth Operator by Sade which is one saxy mutha.
As you can see, there’s too much to say. One angle begets another and there’s simply a lot to cover. Perhaps we can dive into each of these levels of smooth rock sometime. But for now, check out the Top 100 website, listen to more tunes, and even check out new smooth! And, if you want to focus on the Top 8 yachty songs that Yachty by Nature plays, check out this article Captain Carl published. Until then, Keep it Yachty!

Shaggy feathered hair? Check. Mustache? Check. High-pitched male vocals? Check. Perfect for the sailboat? Check. Then it must be yacht rock. And here’s BYRT’s Ultimate Yacht Rock Playlist (scroll to the bottom to hear the tracks)!
My first acknowledgment of the term “yacht rock” occurred in the short-lived Plymouth record store Mars Records, as there was a yacht rock category. Since then this genre of soft rock mainly from the mid to late 70s to early 80s has gained traction.
Typically heralded as just plain corny, artists such as Christopher Cross, Stephen Bishop, and Bernie Higgins have gone through a resurgence of late. During the summertime, there is even a seasonal yacht rock channel on Sirius satellite radio.
Often at work, my friends and I fall deep down rabbit holes. A recent such rabbit hole was compiling the ultimate yacht rock playlist. A big shout out to Mike Landolfi for all of his input on this essential piece (although he needs to grow his hair longer and feather it).
Instead of pairing yacht rock with a six-pack of beer, we’re heading for a canned cocktail, an easy sipper for those warm summer boating days. The Litchfielder, a bourbon-based cocktail with lemon juice by Litchfield Distillery, is a good choice for those fall yachting days. Let your mullet and mustache blow in the wind, crack open the canned cocktail, and listen to the following playlist on your favorite listening device, whether through a streaming service or 8 track.
Starting the playlist is the ultimate yacht rockstar–Christopher Cross, whose “Sailing” gives the genre an identity. Next follows Rupert Holmes with “Escape,” better known as the “Pina Colada Song,” which is my least favorite song, quite terrible, but certainly exemplifies this genre. Steely Dan is a tough inclusion since I really like them and musically they are far more intricate than most on the list. I chose “Deacon Blues” which is one of my favorite Steely Dan tracks. The theme from the Greatest American Hero is known more for this rendition . Ace’s “How Long” is another track that I genuinely enjoy but still fits the bill.
America walks that fine line between yacht rock and breezy folk-rock but ultimately belongs on this list. The Captain and Tennille feature elusive female vocals in this male-dominated genre. (and provides the antithesis to Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart”). Next up is the crown prince of yacht rock, Michael McDonald. Before I knew they sang “Kiss You All Over,” I thought this band had to be a hair metal band by their name, Exile. Starship finishes out at number 10 with another one of my least favorite songs, “We Built This City.”
The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with “American Dream” is also pretty bad, leaning toward the “Pina Colada Song” or Jimmy Buffet by way of light country music. Kenny Loggins and Stevie Nicks are truly forgettable on the track “Whenever I Call You ‘Friend.’” A great yacht rock one-hit-wonder, Player, with “Baby Come Back” is a perfect soundtrack to grocery shopping. Ambrosia, not only a dessert but “Biggest Part of Me” is another genre-defining track. “I’d Really Love to See You Tonight” is simply one of those songs you know, but don’t know who sings it. Well, guess what, it’s England Dan and John Ford Coley!
Just like the last track, Robbie Dupree’s “Steal Away” I can promise you know, although I have never heard of the artist. Toto is a funny band, part mullet rock of “Hold the Line,” part pop of “Africa” and pure yacht rock with “Rosanna,” the tribute to a young Roseanne Barr . The Doobie Brothers start as a southern rock type group but head straight to the ocean with the addition of Michael McDonald, best exemplified by “What a Fool Believes.” Hall & Oates part blue-eyed soul, part yacht rock plays the part with “Kiss On My List.” Orleans’s “Still the One” is the theme song to every reelected candidate since the song came out and is still pretty terrible.
The sailing theme is in full swing with Bertie Higgins’s “Key Largo.” For those summer nights, “Reminiscing” by Little River Band does the trick. I only knew Stephen Bishop from the soundtrack of the truly essential “ Care Bears Movie II .” The Atlanta Rhythm Section hits off with mundane soft rock, but Gerry Rafferty brings it back powerfully with “Baker Street” with the best sax riff this side of “Careless Whisper.”
Boz Scaggs keeps the party grooving with the truly wonderful “Lido Shuffle.” Jackson Browne, all though another borderline yacht rocker, plays true to the genre with “Somebody’s Baby.” The Grass Roots also straddle the line of yacht rock but let’s include them with “Sooner or Later.” We reprise Christopher Cross with “Arthur’s Theme.” “Peg” by Steely Dan is one of their truer yacht rock takes.
For the final seven, we start out with “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts. This song fits in somewhere between yacht rock, folk rock, and breezy light hits but would sound just fine by the sea. The only yacht rock instrumental is George Benson’s “Breezin.” Feel the breeze through your feathered hair and mustache as the yacht smoothly glides over the water. Even yacht-rockers celebrate the holidays! Ray Parker Jr’s “Christmas Time is Here” is pretty boring but definitely fits the theme. Daft Punk checks off the yacht rock boxes with “Fragments of Time” from their masterpiece Random Access Memories. Michael McDonald spreads holiday cheer with “Every Time Christmas Comes Around.” Luther Vandross steps out of the bedroom and onto the yacht with the upbeat “Never Too Much.” Michael (we’re on a first-name basis) then closes the show with his superb guest vocals on Christopher Cross’s “Ride Like the Wind.”
These 37 yacht rock “classics” will make any outboard motor run. From the kayak to the cruise ship, crack open a canned cocktail, put on this playlist, and drift away on the open water. And after all was said and done, I keep coming back for more Yacht Rock as I am an official convert!
For further reading, check out BYRT’s Ultimate Hip Hop Playlist !
Take that wretched “Escape” song off there, add some more Steely Dan and I’d listen to this playlist!
Ha! Yeah that’s pretty bad but is defining of the genre.

Boating songs really bring out the best in everyone. There is nothing like having some relaxing music in the background or even blasting from the speakers of your boat rental . Some songs on this list are true classics, while others might be new to your ears. We’re pretty sure your crew will learn the lyrics fast. Here are 25 of the best songs for your boat party playlist.
Let’s crank the volume up and dive into these songs together.
Find unique boat rentals and on the water experiences near you
You don’t really have to be anywhere near the Florida Keys to enjoy this tune, but it sure helps if you are. Listen to the enticing Caribbean steel drums and lie under the clear sky on your comfortable deck . Forget all your problems and simply enjoy some afternoon delights, cocktails, and the waterview.
“And if the wind is right you can sail away and find serenity… oh, the canvas can do miracles/Just you wait and see/Believe me.” This popular and peaceful song from 1980 will certainly take you away from all of your worries and really set the scene for your next sailing vacation.
Country star Alan Jackson and living legend Jimmy Buffett give you all kinds of reasons to start an early day of drinking. We think you will find that on a boat, it is so much harder to feel any kind of guilt about pouring “something tall and strong”, whenever in the day the mood strikes you.
Another cracking tune by Buffett, this is the song that inspired his massive empire and an entire lifestyle of beach-related fun. Sailors young and old will forever be glad to spend time searching for that lost shaker of salt.
Following in the sandy footsteps of Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney is a newer country artist with a lot of summery songs that can go well with boats, including this really relaxing tune about “vessels of freedom.”
Way back in 1956, famous Jamaican-American singer Harry Belafonte put out this well-known song about the lives of dockworkers, and by now, almost everyone knows how to sing “day-o!”
This one was originally a traditional West Indies folk song called “The John B. Sails” that the Beach Boys revised in 1966. The song is about John B., an old sponger boat whose crew often got drunk when they came into port . Not surprisingly, the boat crashed and sunk off the coast of the Bahamas in about 1900.
This 1974 disco hit “Rock The Boat” is sometimes considered the first disco song to top the Billboard Top 100 charts. The catchy song compares some of the ups and downs of being in a relationship to time spent on a boat.
Recorded in 1968, this classic dedicated to the dock is ideal for a sunset sailing cruise. Listen closely to the song, and you’ll hear the soothing waves in the background while you are “wasting time.”

Chesney’s clever play on the popular “no shirt, no shoes, no service” saying might become one of the anthems of your next boat trip. Just don’t take his advice when you pull into port, or you may not get served after all.
This soothing and relaxing melody will leave you with long-lasting memories of the blue sky, the water, and a bunch of white sails flapping away in the distance “on a summer breeze”.
When this song comes on the playlist, you’ll probably think all about the barefoot ladies and people getting crazy on the boulevard. Just pull out your colas and ice-cold beers for a big boat party on the water .
A popular throwback song that every American can get behind when they can’t wait till June, this famous hit has been the very epitome of summer since the Beach Boys released it in 1963. If you’re going on a boat trip in California , put this tune on while you sail around Alcatraz, beneath the Golden Gate Bridge , and go about.
Another thing to soak up is some sun. When there is not a cloud in the sky, just rub on some tropical sunscreen and turn up the volume on this hit from 2002. And if the boating lifestyle doesn’t get everyone in your crew to lay back and relax, sing louder when Sheryl Crow tells “everyone to lighten up.”
Boating skills are often passed down from generation to generation, and Jimmy Buffett sings about that in this catchy song from 1978. Some of the best lines are at the end of the song, with “the sea’s in my veins, my tradition remains.”
This is about two young guys on their way to the county fair. It starts raining, but it doesn’t bother them. They wait it out happily but don’t want it to rain all day. They hitch a ride to the creek for some fishing and swimming, then head home and meet their neighbor for some moonshine.
If you are taking a trip to a “little lake across the Alabama line ”, put on Alan Jackson’s 2002 story of a boat “built out of love.” For Jackson, the boat is a “piece of my childhood that’ll never be forgotten.”
According to Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1982, their many years of sailing under the Southern Cross became a really helpful way to get over some of their most difficult relationship problems.
Simply listen to Van Morrison’s amazing melodies and evocative lyrics to feel like you’re in a movie about boating . Lie back, smell the sea, feel the sky, and let your soul and spirit fly into the mystic.
If you are looking to learn a bit of history while enjoying your music, this song might be just perfect for you on the water. It recounts the sinking of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald freighter, a large ship that came to a watery end during a powerful storm in November 1975.
This famous song does not actually try to tell a specific story, and some of the lyrics are hard to understand, but the blue skies, a sea of green, and a yellow submarine make this tune the closest thing to a Beatles boating song there is.
Styx band member Dennis DeYoung wrote the song feeling a little depressed about lower than expected album sales. Over the years, it has reached immense popularity, getting featured on adult cartoons like South Park and Family Guy!

There is no such thing as a boat day that is silent unless fishing is involved, and back in the day we had to curate lists and prepare endlessly for a boat trip. Today, we have Spotify and Pandora, so we can always get the right vibes and set the right tone for a perfect day on the lake.
Music is extremely personal and is the fastest way to set a mood, on or off the water. Party boat songs are in their own class though, and most listeners’ tastes can be categorized into four groups: bangers, country, classic, or yacht rock.
We combed through hundreds of Spotify playlists to share our favorite party boat songs, and the most requested lists from our excursions.
Behold the top 1,659 boat songs to rock out to:
This year’s easiest to grab party boat playlist, these songs are what’s hot this year.
If you plan on hitting up Devil’s Cove and getting loud, this is THE list for that.
From Journey and Diana Ross to Steely Dan, this list has it all and is perfect for a multi-generational outing.
While it’s the shortest playlist on our list, it’s pretty fricken’ good and just sounds like boating – Jimmy Buffett, Katy Perry, The Beach Boys, and Van Morrison? Yessir.
Okay look, we’ve invested in our sound systems more than any other fleet on the lake, so we absolutely love bass-heavy music – most systems fall flat, but we can bump so hard your sunglasses fall off.
From old to new, this list has it all: Johnny Cash to Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line, it invokes the feeling of a hot summer day on the water.
If country music is what you’re looking for while floating on Lake Travis, this is the ultimate list. It’s diverse and classic, and they keep adding songs to it. We love it!
For some of us, a day in the sun isn’t complete without some Nsync and Britney or Ludacris yellin’ about Southern Hospitality (throw them ‘bows!!), so this is where we head on those days.
And for others, the 80s and 90s are the sweet spot for a fun day, so this list is ready to scratch that itch!
One of the more creative ways to enjoy music on the lake is with a list of remixes and mashups to keep it unexpected yet still familiar.
These are all Spotify playlists, but we also have Pandora on all of our boats, so you can tell us an artist and we can take it from there. But we find that today, most folks have a playlist ready, and we’re equipped for that.
We hope this list of playlists suits all of your needs, or gets you inspired to create your ultimate playlist of boat songs for your next outing on the water!

As another week of righteous and rowdy rockin' gets underway, we offer our heartiest congratulations to SKAM, who were so dominant in last week's contest that they scored almost as many votes as the rest of the field put together, smiting them usunder.
So condolences to everyone else, not least the beleaguered runners-up Texas Hippie Coalition, and the even more beleaguered runners-up to the runners-up, Giant Walker.
Here's this week's selection, for the enjoyment of humanity.
The rollicking opener for the surprise new mini-album from Saskatoon’s finest ( Paradise Alone , just out now) is described by frontman Ewan Currie as “a good old fashioned, dumb rock song”. It is that, in the best way possible. Gloriously catchy with a sunny, almost glam 70s stomp, you can practically hear the palm trees in the guitars from Currie’s soul-searching visit to the Florida Keys, before work began on the record. If you’re a fan already, you’ll bloody love this. If you’re new to ‘em, this is a good place to start.
Following the moody, lush stylings of 2022’s Red Alert In The Blue Forest , Finland’s enigmatic sibling trio are back with something shorter and brighter – though no less intriguing. Part alt. pop rock banger, part prog epic in miniature, Starlings pads its soaring, melodic heart with clever Nordic and Eastern-flavoured twists. More to come on In Murmuration , which comes out in October. “Essentially, it’s a song about how there is power and beauty in teamwork,” the band say, “and how the individual elbowing and struggle to succeed is unappealing, ugly and tiring. Of course, we tried to write it in a funny, relatable way."
One of the more tender but still uptempo moments on the British foursome’s debut, Dancing On The Milky Way (yours in full next month), Can You Hear Me Now is a rainbow cloud of glossy harmonies, 80s power-pop and rock feels with a huggable chorus. A band with this many inflatable unicorns (all of them called Neil, apparently), beach balls and bucket hats in their collective mix ought to feel like more of a joke… but with king-sized tunes like this, they really don’t.
These Canadian classic rockers make a deliciously retro racket (not so much flirting with the Rolling Stones as shacking up with them and pledging to ‘go steady’) on the keys-thumping, blues-grooving opening/title track of their new album. Following some ‘almost-made-it’ moments in the music industry, they wound up in a series of life curveballs including a battle with cancer, working as a garbageman, near-fatal car accidents and going back to school. On Moving Along they sound totally fired up to be back in the saddle, like a time machine just landed from the early 70s and ready to rock out.
Hitting notes of Rainbow’s Since You’ve Been Gone , plus a shitload of anthemic 80s vibes, German rockers The New Roses have a recipe for good-time singalongs right here – plus a juicy little minor-ley twist in the chorus that keeps the whole thing ever-so-slightly off-centre. “I just played around with that riff and then imagined us in the middle of a live show,” the band say, of the song’s origins. “I thought, 'what should happen now to put a smile on everybody’s face, but make them wanna rock out at the same time?’ After that, the song kind of wrote itself and I just had to pick it like a flower…”
Aussie punks A&TS pave the way for their next album, Cartoon Darkness , with this woozy, gnarly yet big-sounding new mix of ‘young dumb’ energy and existential darkness. “Surrendering to joy, surrendering to being a vision, in your own power, because making decisions based on emotion rather than logic is liberating,” singer Amy Taylor says of the song, “and despite the external inferno, you walk away unscathed, through flames, burnt but only superficially, unstopped, unaffected, unhuman. Life is work, life is not free, we can never work enough because the end goal doesn't exist, so all we can do is choose to be wrong.”
According to Devid Townsend, a PowerNerd is a) A person of any gender who has, through tenacity and perseverance, turned what society may deem as a ‘weakness’ into a superpower, b) A total fucking badass and c) You. Which is all rather lovely and inclusive. The song, meanwhile, is a blast, with an atmospheric intro giving way to a riff that thunders and races like the best racing and thundering thing ever. It comes from the guitar maestro's upcoming album of the same name, which, we're reliably informed, is "noticeably heavier" than his last release. It's out on October 25.
Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace has a new band, the Mississippi Medicals, in which she's joined by Matt Patton of Drive-By Truckers, Mikey Erg of The Ergs and Paris Campbell Grace. Their debut EP Give An Inch is out early next month, but, confusingly, this song – a cover of Baby, Baby , a 2012 single by now-defunct Ohio alt.rockers The Sidekicks – isn't actually on it. Instead, it comes from 20 Years Of Dreaming And Scheming, a forthcoming compilation from The Sidekicks' old label Red Scare Industries. But enough of the blurb: Baby, Baby is glorious and upbeat and deserves every second of your attention.

After Blake Shelton crashed wife Gwen Stefani’s St. Paul show in July, she didn’t return the favor Sunday at the Minnesota State Fair.
By Jon Bream
Where was she? Where was Gwen Stefani? She wasn’t at the Minnesota State Fair grandstand where her hubby Blake Shelton sounded excited to draw 11,156 country music fans on a Sunday night. In July, he crashed her Minnesota Yacht Club gig at Harriet Island in St. Paul. Why didn’t she return the favor?
Instead, grandstand fans witnessed Stefani on a video screen, duetting on the power ballad “Nobody But You” midway through the show. Too bad her voice wasn’t louder in the sound mix. At least dedicated Shelton followers got to experience Stefani’s surprise appearance at his Twin Cities Summer Jam gig in 2022.
But that was then. This is now. “I don’t do that many concerts anymore,” said Shelton, who has headlined only one other show this summer. “I’m honored to be here tonight.”
The scene: With Shelton, it’s always about drinking. Or at least talking about drinking. Concertgoers seemed to have as many fans-on-a-stick in their hands as beers. This was an older crowd, especially compared to masses of sloppy 20-something revelers at Zach Bryan on Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
When Shelton left muggy Oklahoma on Sunday morning, he was hoping for cooler weather in Minnesota, he said. Not so. The husky 6-foot-5 singer was drenched in sweat by his third song.
The music: Even though he’s landed 28 tunes at No. 1 in Nashville, it was really Shelton’s irresistible, 23-season stint on NBC’s “The Voice” that transformed him into a country superstar and household name. He retired from that gig last year and, as he acknowledged Sunday, doesn’t have much new music except for his new Post Malone collab, “Pour Me a Drink,” which landed late in Sunday’s 80-minute set.
Biggest takeaways: BS aren’t just Shelton’s initials. The letters also describe his playful patter. He lays it on thicker than the smoked sauce at the fair’s BBQ Baked Potato booth. But he spreads BS in a good way.
Like him dissing Luke Bryan, his “rival” on “American Idol,” for asking fans to sing choruses at his concert because “he’s so drunk and high he doesn’t remember the words to his own songs.” Shelton is joking, of course.
The 48-year-old is a charmer, who sold himself with a genuine smile, casual sincerity and straightforward romanticism. “My songs aren’t brain surgery,” he explained. He used his glib, self-deprecating tongue to spice up a repertoire that was heavy on ballads and medium-tempo tunes and mostly devoid of rousing party pieces.
Coolest moments: The standout was 2019′s “God’s Country,” a moody southern-rock declaration with a Native American musical undercurrent. And how can you argue with dog songs? Namely, 2017′s sweet “I’ll Name the Dogs” (“you name the babies”) and 2002′s story-song “Ol’ Red,” his swampy treatment of the old George Jones hit.
Low points: “Boys Round Here” is a bro-country styled anthem from 2013 that didn’t arouse and similarly “Pour Me a Drink,” the Post Malone new entry, was upbeat but not rowdy enough for its title.
Best banter: “Deep fried ranch dressing?” he said of a new State Fair food item. “I ate it and it’s awesome. What is wrong with me? I loved it.”
Opening act: Coached by Shelton, Emily Ann Roberts finished second in 2015 on “The Voice,” which she called an “itty bitty TV show.” In 30 minutes Sunday, Roberts, 25, of Knoxville, Tenn., offered a homey presence and an appealingly twangy voice on original material that has yet to make ripples in Nashville.
Jon Bream has been a music critic at the Star Tribune since 1975, making him the longest tenured pop critic at a U.S. daily newspaper. He has attended more than 8,000 concerts and written four books (on Prince, Led Zeppelin, Neil Diamond and Bob Dylan). Thus far, he has ignored readers’ suggestions that he take a music-appreciation class.
The Oklahoma serviceman-turned-countryman had 50,000 fans singing along, even in some of his more downcast newer tunes.
In his first local show since 2017, Chance the Rapper offered several new songs from his overdue sophomore full-length.

The rollicking opener for the surprise new mini-album from Saskatoon's finest (Paradise Alone, just out now) is described by frontman Ewan Currie as "a good old fashioned, dumb rock song".It is that, in the best way possible.
