I love mine and it is great for coastal cruising. However, I would not want to cross an ocean in it.

We owned a '95 hunter 430 and cruised it for 3 years from San Diego through the Panama Canal to Florida.Never had any engine or major system problems, but fried our starter in Costa Rica and were stuck for 10 days until a new one arrived from Miami (recommend carrying a spare as that diesel is tough to do a "push-jump start". The boat handled exceptionally well in weather.

Bet You Didn't Know This About Hunters!
Air from the gap from the saw required to cut away the keel joint to drop the keel. Air across 90% of the joint save for the first 3 keel bolt holes. That is all that is holding 4600+ pounds of lead in the air still attached to the boat. All courtesy of Hunter's preferred bedding compound for keels: Epoxy.

Like some of the other posters have said get a good survey. Like the birds say the nice thing with Hunters is they are cheap, cheap, cheap.

Most people who participate actively in forums like this have no shortage of opinion and are biased towards Water boats">blue water boats. I owned an older Hunter 33 and it was great as my first large boat. I stayed coastal and was learning the systems and what I liked and disliked.
