  1. Things that work: Granny Bars - Sail Magazine

Things that work: Granny Bars. Anyone who has stood working at the mainmast aboard a sailboat underway in heavy weather knows how awkward, even dangerous, it can be, juggling a halyard, reef cringle and lines, and a winch handle while simultaneously hanging on for dear life...

  2. Adding Mast Pulpits - Sail Magazine

Somewhere along the way I discovered the wonders of mast pulpits, which are often known as “granny bars.” Not only did a granny bar let me stand upright, it let me lean back and gaze up the mast. And I could do this with both hands free.

  3. Granny Bars - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

We recently installed a granny bar. But that's because all of our lines are at the mast, and it makes a very convenient place to hang the tails for 4 halyards, the outhaul , three reefing lines, and two lazy jacks.

Mast Pulpits (aka: Granny Bars) – Oct. 2013. This was my first major welding project and I chose to do it first because it is (or I thought at the time) to be pretty straightforward. I began by calling Thumper at PSC to see if I could order a new set. Turns out I can – for $2000. Ouch.

  7. Six Things We Love About Our Norseman 447 | Sailing ...

Granny Bars help you do that. But they need to be stout. On our Norseman 447, we’ve got a three legged 2” OD granny bar with a slight curve to hold you in tight even when the bucking bronco gets-a-buckin’. We lean on them, we stand on them, and we secure our tethers to them.

  8. Granny Bars? - Page 3 - Cruisers & Sailing Forums

Granny bars are the bars you rest your bum on when you're doing stuff at the mast? I have them and think they are fantastic. Three points of contact right? Two feet and bum! Leaves two hands to work. Mine also provide some protection for my chimney and vents. Coincidentally they also prevent me from increasing my flue height. Which is annoying.

I have a set of newer granny bars. These are ready to be installed. They are approximately 30 inches tall and approximately 24 inches wide at the base. Asking $1000, plus shipping from Dana Point California.

HR49. A highly maintained and continuously refitted HR49, owned by the same owner for 25 years! If you are looking for a well kept and updated larger Hallberg-Rassy for a good price, and like the classic flush decked “ships” Hallberg-Rassy used to build, this is the boat for you.
