A sophisticated design

Aboard Lagoon’s next generation sailing catamaran , the award-winning Lagoon 46 , luxury takes the form of space through enlightened design that pushes the boundaries of traditional liveaboard cruising. Naval architects VPLP Design and Patrick le Quément make strides in creating a perfect harmony between pleasurable onboard living and efficient sailing . Modular front and aft cockpits , s weeping flybridge , and an unparalleled interior volume for a mid-size catamaran, make this yacht feel much larger than her 46-foot length. Lagoon 46 designers put to work their year of expertise to achieve world-class seaworthiness, ease of sailing, and performance. And the larger sailing plan, shorter boom and a self-tacking jib come together to make sailing the Lagoon 46 a great joy.

Comfort at Sea

Those that relish open air, sun and wind will immediately gravitate to the Lagoon 46’s sweeping flybridge. Access the flybridge via built-in steps on either side . Once atop the bridge, visibility, handling and comfort underway are optimized by the centered rigging and helm. There is plenty of room for passengers to enjoy the view with plush cushioned seating and double sunbeds.

Both fore and aft, there is no shortage of generous living spaces for socializing or finding your own spot under the sun. The foredeck features cushioned seating and sunbeds , which also houses 3 large storage lockers. Aft, the beamy cockpit allows for large gatherings, and owners can choose between traditional davits, or an electric hydraulic dinghy platform. 

Open-Air Ambience

Inside the saloon , Nauta Design takes maximum advantage of the generous volume by creating a refined and functional living space. Large windows provide natural light throughout, and sliding windows to the fore and aft cockpits provide ventilation and a breezy, open-air ambience. 

The aft-facing galley is large and well-equipped with the conveniences of home. And fine finishes and cabinet work grace the interior spaces throughout.

The large interior volume carries through to the below deck cabins, where layout options include a 3-cabin/3-bath version with an impressive owner’s suite, or a 4-cabin/4-bath version .

Robertson and Caine knew they a winner on their hands when this model was first introduced in late 2006. Over 160 of this model have been built since. Equally comfortable for coastal cruising yet capable of crossing oceans at remarkable speed. Built by Robertson & Caine in South Africa, these popular vessels are notable for their strength, durability and attention to detail. The Leopard 46 is a true transoceanic catamaran, offering comfort, space and unmatched reliability. The Leopard 46 model is widely reknown as the most robust and enduring model to come out of the Robertson and Caine yard. The hulls are of GRP construction with balsa core for strength, stiffness and insulation using high quality materials. An exceptional shallow draft of 4 ft 5in/ 1.35 metres allows for access to shallow waterways and quiet anchorages. The wide aft platform allows easy access to the boat and connects both swim platforms. A large opening allows walk through access from the aft platform into the cockpit. A feature of the Leopard 46 is the great connectivity between the helm station, the cockpit and the saloon, allowing all of the family to enjoy and share the cruising life.

Clients often debate about which of the production catamaran brands to purchase. Is there a significant difference between a Fountain-Pajot, Lagoon, and Leopard? After an 11 day delivery of a Leopard 46 from Fort Lauderdale to Cartagena, Colombia and a delivery of a Lagoon 440 in March from Fort Lauderdale to Annapolis , in many respects the Leopard out classed the Lagoon including performance, durability, and comfort. When designing the Lagoon 46, the VPLP design bureau embarked on the ambitious journey of fitting all the innovations of the model range into a more compact volume. In the fight against weight and volume, the designers won, lightening the weight of the catamaran by 5 tons compared to the Lagoon 50 with high driving capacity and maximum comfort.

Notable innovations:

• the large stainless steel handrails were removed, instead the handrails were molded in the cabin roof, providing the model with even greater streamlining;
• removal of lighting control on the panel in front of the helm: now there is no need to go down to the saloon to turn on the running lights;
• displacement of the helm to the left, as a result of which the mast does not block the view;
• automatic staysail allows one person to control the catamaran;
• Harken's electric winch helps to adjust the main sheet.

Yanmar diesel engines allow for a speed of 8.5 knots, while a more comfortable cruising speed is 7 knots.

The reliability and safety of the hulls is ensured by the new and already proven vacuum diffusion technology that prevents osmosis.

Comfort for guests is guaranteed thanks to a convenient layout and accessibility of all areas without any effort, since the cockpit, saloon and galley are located on the same level and form a single space due to sliding door partitions.

Lagoon 46 for sale is carried out in versions for 3 or 4 cabins. Traditionally, the right hull is the property of the owner of the catamaran with all the necessary amenities. The guest cabins also take into account all the needs of people traveling by sea.

New on the Docks: Leopard 46

Leopard Catamarans has unveiled the Leopard 46 sailing cat.

“The Leopard 46 is a testament to Leopard Catamarans and Robertson and Caine’s commitment to engineering excellence and elevated onboard living,” Franck Bauguil, global sales manager at Leopard Catamarans, stated in a press release. “We have meticulously designed and built a vessel that not only delivers exceptional performance but also provides an unparalleled level of luxury and comfort.”

The Leopard 46 has an exterior design inspired by powercats. Its wraparound coachroof windows allow for panoramic views and lots of natural light inside. The companionway sliding door fully retracts abaft the helm station, connecting the saloon and cockpit as a single area for relaxation and entertainment.

Other key features include a hybrid electric drive option and integrated solar panels, both of which have the potential to make cruising more sustainable and efficient.

Leopard allows owners to personalize the 46 by ordering one of several layouts. Options include three staterooms plus a utility room; or four- and five-stateroom variations. Owners also can choose the configuration of tables and furniture in the saloon and cockpit.

There’s an optional performance-sail package, as well as an optional lifting tender platform.

Where to see the Leopard 46: The boat is expected to be at the Annapolis Sailboat Show in October, where it will be a nominee for Cruising World ’s 2025 Boat of the Year. It will also be available for charter through The Moorings and Sunsail.
