Fox Valley native Alex Propson went from boating Lake Winnebago to landing on Bravo's 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht'

Life on the water isn’t what it once was for Alex Propson.

Not only is the boat bigger, so are the waves he’s making.

The Fox Valley native grew up boating on Lake Winnebago and the Chain O’ Lakes. Sometimes he would go fishing on the Wolf River, where his parents had a cottage, and take the boat down to Lake Poygan.

“Beyond that, I never even made it to the vast seas of Lake Michigan,” said Propson, who was born in Neenah and spent most of his youth in Kaukauna.

These days, you’ll find him every Monday night on board the 177-foot Parsifal III in the waters off Sardinia, Italy, on Bravo’s “Below Deck Sailing Yacht.”

He’s a deckhand on Season 4 of the reality TV show that follows Captain Glenn Shephard as he oversees a crew that works hard — and plays hard. Charter guests sip espresso martinis, dine on eel fillets, leave $19,000 tips and break into tears when their cabin doesn’t have ample toilet paper. “Boatmances,” hookups and copious amounts of Champagne are a given. (This is Bravo, remember, the network home to “The Real Housewives” series, “Vanderpump Rules” and the original “Below Deck” and its spinoffs.)

The current "Sailing Yacht" season premiered April 10. New episodes air at 7 p.m. Mondays on Bravo and are available to stream the next day on Peacock.

“It’s been a ride, I’ll tell you that,” said Propson who filmed last summer but had to keep it under wraps until the cast was announced in March. “It’s been a year of angst, not really knowing what’s going to happen once the show does come out and how that’s going to affect my life.”

He left Appleton, got into yachting in Marina del Rey during pandemic

He didn’t exactly chart a course to an oceanic lifestyle or prime time television. It found him.

After graduating from Freedom High School and the former University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley, he was living in Appleton and working in sales when he moved to Los Angeles about five years ago. He got into yachting during the pandemic and met a couple from Minneapolis looking for a crew for their boat in Marina del Rey, California. They taught him everything he needed to know, and he later got his captain’s license through the U.S. Coast Guard.

He was cast on “Below Deck Sailing Yacht” after someone saw his social media. His Capt. Alex Propson Instagram is drenched in shots of him on, in or by water, from Greece to Montana to South Africa. After he and a group of friends from the Fox Valley toured Europe in 2018, he spent four months doing volunteer work in Thailand and embraced scuba diving when his travels took him all over Southeast Asia.

“Ever since then I’ve kind of just had this travel bug, this kind of spontaneous, adventurous part of me that sometimes needs attention,” he said.

He flexed his Wisconsin beer-chugging muscle for the cameras

Signing on to “Below Deck Sailing Yacht” felt like a well-timed opportunity to broaden his knowledge and his comfort zone.

“When I got started in Marina del Rey, it was a pretty new world. I had spent a lot of time on boats via scuba diving and other activities that I had abroad, but as far as captaining or crewing a larger yacht, it was starting from scratch,” he said. “Not a whole lot of open coastline in Wisconsin.”

Even with his captain’s license, he didn't have a lot of sailing in his background, so he approached the show as a learning experience. The same went for getting comfortable in front of TV cameras, which, as it turned out, took care of itself.

“You have to be so focused on the work that you’re doing, because it is very important and sometimes dangerous work ... the safety of other people is involved ... that the television part of it kind of isn’t even there,” he said.

"You kind of forget sometimes that you’re doing it for television so a lot of what you see is very, very candid in regards to interactions with the crew and with the guests. Our crew nights out for sure we forget that we’re on camera.”

Those party nights are where the drinks flow and the hot tub flirting gets a little steamy. In an early episode, Propson made easy work of chugging a beer with a fellow member of the crew. Credit his roots.

“That’s definitely a muscle I have worked out before in Wisconsin,” he said, laughing. “Lots of time on the practice field.”

The dynamic of interacting with his crew mates in the close confines of a sailing yacht for reality TV was interesting.

“All I can really say is that you get close really fast. You get to know these folks really, really quickly, which is both a blessing and a curse. It’s tight quarters. It’s intense, hard work so you see the best side of people and you definitely see the worst side of people at times as well," he said. "But what’s really I think pretty beautiful about the whole process is that you all have the same goal.”

It's Shephard’s patience and cool demeanor that keep things humming on Parsifal III, Propson said, even when serious situations like engine failures pop up. He and the captain were bunkmates, so he got to know him well and appreciate his many stories from sailing around the world.

"Just an incredible man," Propson said.

He lives a low-key life in Florida, but 'new opportunities' are ahead

Propson, who lives in south Florida, has made friends from the show he expects will last a lifetime. It has been fun to reconnect with people back in Wisconsin he hasn’t talked with in years who were surprised to see him turn up on TV.

“Sometimes you forget how cool it is what you’re doing, and it’s nice that I have tethers to Wisconsin and to the ground that kind of remind me of just how amazing these opportunities really are and remind you to stay present in what you’re doing.”

Being on the show has landed him some “new opportunities” he’s excited about but has not yet revealed. So far, with exception of a few more flights, life hasn’t changed much since his newfound fame. 

“I live a pretty low-key lifestyle, and I think it’s going to stay that way, or at least I hope so.”

Who is Alex Propson?

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4 premiered on Monday night (April 10). Alex Propson turned heads with his tall height and good looks. It’s likely that he will get attention from the female crew members. He’s already caught the viewers’ attention who wanted to learn more about him.

Per BravoTV.com, Alex is the captain of his own boat, the Nauti Man. He currently resides in South Florida, where he also works most of the time. Alex is also a male model. He often posts pictures of himself on Instagram. Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans would be treated to his shirtless photos as well.

The producers showed plenty of his modeling shots during the season premiere. However, Alex’s main job is in the yachting industry. He first started working in the industry while living in Los Angeles, where he also works as a model. He then moved to Florida, where he worked as a deckhand and became a captain.

Alex is now a USCG 100T Captain. He received his captain’s license from the U.S. Coast Guard after he worked on a 100-ton boat. Aside from yachting, Alex goes diving in the waters, plays basketball, and practices yoga. He shares his travels on Instagram, as many of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht yachties do.

This won’t be Alex’s first and only time on a Bravo show. He’s also reported to join the new cast of Winter House. The fellow Bravo stars have already shared their thoughts. Fan account Bravo By Gays reported that Alex would join Season 3 of Winter House.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans already checked out his good looks on the premiere. Now, the other Bravo stars took notice. The Instagram account shared three shirtless shots of Alex in a rocking chair with his hair down. He smoldered at the camera as he held his glasses and rocked a pair of black shorts.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4 newbie Alex Propson has fans buzzing after only one episode.

The deckhand’s good looks and chill vibe have made him in demand in the Bravoverse.

However, before that hits Bravo airwaves, Alex heats things up on Below Deck Sailing Yacht in more ways than one.

In the trailer, Alex reveals he’s ready for hot European boy summer, and he meant it.

As Below Deck Sailing Yacht viewers heard him say, Alex does day charters, but he also enjoys working as a deckhand on larger boats. Parsifal III is his first venture into the world of sailing yachts.

According to his Bravo bio, before yachting, Alex worked in corporate sales. However, the pandemic forced him to shift gears, and he has never looked back.

Alex’s Instagram bio has him listed as a “Semi-picture taker” and “Part-time picture subject.” The yachty certainly knows how to strike a pose, and his IG feed is proof of that.

The social media platform also has Alex sharing all of his traveling ventures with his followers.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Alex Propson films Winter House

As mentioned above, Alex recently filmed Winter House, which should premiere sometime this fall on Bravo. The show initially combined Southern Charm and Summer House stars for a winter experience of staying a few weeks at a ski resort.

For Season 3 of Winter House, the show was taken in a different direction. Bravo stars from other shows being thrown into the mix. Vanderpmp Rules star Tom Schwartz was thrown into the mix, as was Family Karma’s Brian Benni.

Alex has yet to comment on his upcoming Winter House appearance, which makes sense since Bravo wants the focus on him and Below Deck Sailing Yacht right.

Something clearly happens this season that has Bravo doubling down on Alex for another show. Below Deck Sailing Yacht viewers are simply going to have to watch to find out the deal with hunky Alex Propson.

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Is Returning for Season 5 After Gary King’s Sexual Misconduct Scandal

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is coming back for season 5 after Gary King’s sexual misconduct scandal.

Bravo announced on Monday, September 16, that the next season reunites Captain Glenn Shephard , chief stew Daisy Kelliher and Gary as they spend their charter season in Ibiza. The rest of the cast includes chef Cloyce Martin , chef engineer Davide Morosi , stews Diana Cruz , Danni Warren and deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch .

The upcoming installment comes more than one year after Below Deck Sailing Yacht wrapped up its fourth season on Bravo in July 2023.

Gary’s future as a cast member has been up in the air, however, since a production assistant from the show accused him of making unwanted advances while filming season 4.

In a Rolling Stone exposé, which was published in October 2023, Samantha Suarez and other former employees, who asked to remain anonymous, accused Bravo of allegedly helping cover up Gary’s inappropriate behavior.

“It was insane. There were multiple incidents of sexual harassment in front of multiple producers after this person had been given verbal warnings multiple times,” one of the accusers alleged. “I had to promote and make this guy who just assaulted someone look awesome. That was my job, to make this person look cool, capable and exciting.”

Samantha recalled being asked to look after Gary when he allegedly got drunk. Once filming wrapped, Samantha remained with Gary in his hotel room before he tried to stop her from leaving by pressing himself against her. Samantha alleged that Gary refused to let her leave until she started to fight back.

According to Samantha, she alerted producers about the incident , who told Gary to sleep on the boat on days when the crew wasn’t filming as a way to keep him out of the hotel.

Bravo addressed the allegations in a statement to Rolling Stone , saying, “Bravo is committed to maintaining a safe and respectful workplace for cast and crew on our reality shows. We require our third-party production companies to have appropriate workplace policies and trainings in place and a clear process on how to report concerns. The concerns Ms. Suarez raised in July 2022 were investigated at that time and action was taken based on the findings.”

Gary has maintained his innocence since news broke about the claim. “I know [that I did nothing wrong], and I know the truth but it still hurts when people will tell lies to bring you down,” he replied to a fan via Instagram one month later.

In the aftermath, Gary didn’t appear at BravoCon in November 2023 despite initially being announced as a guest. He has since stated that he wasn’t ruling out a Below Deck Sailing Yacht return.

Gary replied to several Instagram users in December 2023 who reminded him there’s a “life after” Below Deck .

“I hope so, will have to see but will definitely be trying to stay on peoples tv screens ☺️,” Gary wrote back. In a separate comment, Gary maintained that he would return to reality TV, adding, “I will do and hopefully be back on your screens, everyday I’m trying to better myself so hopefully if they ask me back you’ll see this.”

Daisy Kelliher Shares the Latest on Her Egg Freezing Journey: "I Have Decided..."

Daisy Kelliher  is taking steps to ensure that she has plenty of options in the future when it comes to possibly having children.

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht cast member, who is returning for Season 5 on October 7 , opened up about freezing her eggs in a series of videos she posted on Instagram.

In her September 6 video , Daisy confirmed that she was doing her second egg retrieval round. "I have done a cycle. I did a cycle last November, and it went well," she said. "It wasn't amazing, it wasn't a bad result. I got 10 eggs... I did decide to do another cycle."

Daisy said she was hopeful that she would, once again, have 10 viable eggs following her second round.

She then shared an update on her Instagram page on September 11. "I'm lucky my scans are going great," she shared in a second Instagram before revealing that she was hoping to complete the actual retrieval just a few days later, on September 13.

In the caption of her post, Daisy noted that she wanted to be open about the egg freezing process because so many people had reached out to her when she went through the experience the first time.

"I have decided to do a second round of egg freezing with [Apricity Fertility]. I had so many questions from friends during my first round I wanted to share my experience with my followers," she wrote. "I think it’s amazing to be able to put steps in place to feel more in control of my fertility. Even if you don’t plan on freezing your eggs or feel you have plenty of time I urge you to go and check your fertility for peace of mind."

Why is Daisy Kelliher freezing her eggs?

As Daisy explained in a video, she decided to freeze her eggs because she wanted to keep her "option[s]" open.

"The reason I decided to freeze my eggs is because I was 36, now I'm 37 and I am still single. I would like the option to have a family," she said in her Instagram video. "At the moment, I would like a family, but if that doesn't happen, that's OK."

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Gary King Returning For Season 5

Season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht is officially moving forward, with several former crew members in tow. But, there’s one returning star in particular that fans did not expect to make a comeback.

Gary King Is Back At Bravo

The trailer for the upcoming season recently released and First Mate Gary King was front and center. But, it also showcased how he might not be there for long.

In the video, there was a moment where we threw an object at someone’s face and it quickly drew blood. Not only did it cause injury but there was a gigantic blood stain on the yacht furniture.

At the end of the trailer Captain Glenn announced that he will be terminating one of the cast members. And based on this incident, it’s a good assumption to say that it’s going to be Gary.

The clip also shared that it doesn’t seem as though he and Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher will continue their romance from the previous season.

In fact, Daisy was seen kissing another crew member. But, based on her love triangle with both Gary and Colin in Season 4, that doesn’t mean she and Gary might not have a moment or two together. Only time will tell.

BBSY Fans Aren’t Happy With His Return

Whether he stays on for just a few charters or not, fans are livid that Gary is returning. Based on the allegations that came to light during the release of Season 4, most don’t think he deserves to come back to the series.

In a Reddit thread , viewers called out Bravo for the decision and some even contemplated boycotting the season. Here are a few of the comments:

• “How is Gary back!? Wasn’t there multiple SA accusations about him? Didn’t he SA a producer???”
• “Even seeing Gary’s face made me feel a bit sick.”
• “Ugh forget it I’m skipping.  Accusations or not he was so disgusting and slimy last season there’s not enough water on earth to shower all the ick off my psyche.”

Gary’s Shocking Allegations

The allegations that were brought against the reality star are nothing to joke about. Season 4 makeup artist Samantha Suarez accused Gary of sexually assaulting her while filming the season.

She also said that she sent emails about the incident to Bravo. And considering that he didn’t get fired and didn’t even receive a temporary suspension, it’s safe to say that no actions were taken.

During the time of Samantha’s claim, an anonymous source also spoke up about their experience working with Gary. According to that person, there were “multiple incidents of sexual harassment in front of multiple producers”.

Jessica "Jess" More was a Below Deck Mediterranean season 5 star, and we're ready to let fans of the nautical reality show know what she's been up to since her season aired. The charter season took place in Spain, on a superyacht called The Wellington. Jess was initially the third stewardess on board, and she worked alongside chief stew Hannah Ferrier and second stew Bugsy Drake. After Hannah was fired, Bugsy was promoted to chief stew, and Aesha Scott was brought in as the second stew. While Jess struggled with her work in the laundry room, it was difficult for her to get along with a few crew members.

During her time on the show, she found herself falling for deckhand Rob Westergaard , who memorably said "I love you" to her. He was one of the deckhands. The pair had an immediate connection, but the relationship was volatile. They had an on-off relationship which created tension between them and also caused friction among the crew. Rob and Jess planned to visit Bali together after the charter season ended. They managed to stay together for the trip. Afterward, they decided to end things.

Jess Dated Rob After Filming Below Deck Med

After leaving The Wellington, Jess headed off to Bali with Rob . The pair had a great time together, even though Rob wasn't sure about the trip at first. In terms of their relationship timeline, six months passed before they chose to go their separate ways. According to BravoTV , Jess and Rob didn't end their romance on the best terms.

" It didn't end on the best note, and we're still not in the best place ," she shared.

Rob was someone Jess " really, truly cared about and loved and thought that [she] was gonna marry ." In the end, Jess felt that Rob wasn't trustworthy . She couldn't build a relationship with someone she didn't completely trust.

Jess Traveled & Worked In Yachting For A Little Bit

Aside from dealing with the split, Jess spent of her time post-show soaking up the sun in Miami. While in the Sunshine State, the former stewardess was seen hanging out with former Below Deck Med castmates. She's also spent time with other franchise crew members.

Aside from seeing friends, Jess has continued her yachting career in Florida in 2021. Judging by her old Instagram highlights, Jess was killing it as a stewardess. She was also open about living with mental health issues that impact many people.

Jess Welcomed A Baby Girl

After a failed relationship with Rob on the show, Jess realizes that having a relationship isn't what's actually important to her. It seems Jess wanted to have a baby all along. In July 2022, Jess revealed on her Instagram page that she was expecting . She received a lot of well wishes from fans, as well as some of her Below Deck Med season 5 costars. Jess gave birth to her daughter , Charli, in October 2022 and released a photo of her at two weeks old on Instagram. Jess has not revealed the identity of her daughter's father.

What Is Jess Up To In 2024?

Jess's life has changed drastically since appearing on Below Deck Med season 5. Not only did she become a mother, but her career path has changed. Jess doesn't seem to be working in the yachting industry since she welcomed her daughter in October 2022. According to Jess's Instagram bio, she does have a link to a website called Charlis Treats . It seems to be a company that created baked goods; however, there is no menu on the website. Jess also seems to be an influencer who focuses on motherhood, travel, yoga, and more.

After Below Deck Med season 5 wrapped filming, Jess was living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where many yachties live as they are close to work. However, she has since moved, and now it seems Jess lives in Charlotte, North Carolina . Several of her Instagram photos are geotagged with the city, so it's likely this is where she lives with her daughter.

Jess was at the center of Below Deck Med season 5 action, thanks to her tumultuous relationship with Rob. Now that the relationship and the season are over, Jess has been focusing on becoming her best self. She also committed to furthering her yachting career. While it is less than likely that Jess will appear in a future Below Deck Mediterranean season, Jess will always be an important part of the franchise.
