How do I book a charter?

To book a charter, simply select the charter that interests you and fill out our form, providing us with details about your preferred dates and the size of your party. We will contact you to finalize the details and send an invoice that can be conveniently paid through our processing system.

What should we bring?

When joining our charter, remember to bring essentials such as sunscreen, towels, any special food or drinks you prefer, your favorite music playlist (if you'd like), and a camera to capture memorable moments. It's worth noting that we provide USB chargers and house-style outlets on board to keep your electronics powered.

Are life jackets provided for all passengers?

Yes! Your safety is our top priority. We provide life jackets and other necessary safety equipment on board.

Can I bring my own snorkeling gear?

Absolutely, feel free to bring your own snorkel gear.

When is the best time to snorkel?

The best time to snorkel depends on your personal preference. Our islands boast beautiful waters that resemble postcard images throughout the day, so there is no bad time to indulge in this activity.

Do you need to be a good swimmer to snorkel?

While safety is our top priority and all activities are undertaken at your own risk, we ensure that all our guests are kept in waters suitable for snorkeling and enjoying the ocean life. 

Additionally, we provide lifejackets and snorkel vests on board to help conserve energy while snorkeling.

Are children required to wear life jackets?

For children under the age of 5, we recommend wearing jackets while moving around on the vessel.

What happens if it rains?

As The Bahama Islands have a tropical climate, weather conditions can vary and change rapidly. While your hotel or villa may experience rain and storms, other parts of the island may remain sunny with blue skies. Our captains will assess weather concerns on the day of the cruise. 

Typically, rain showers are followed by beautiful sunshine and pleasant weather. In the rare event that we cancel a charter due to inclement weather or sea conditions, a representative will contact you to reschedule.

Is gratuity included in the charter price?

Kindly note that gratuity is not included in the Charter price but is greatly appreciated.

When is lobster season, and can I request it on my charter?

Lobster season in the Bahamas runs from August 1st to March 31st. If available on the island, we will do our best to accommodate your request. Please inquire about pricing for the upgraded lobster lunch option, which can be served as a platter or lobster salad.

Can I bring my pet on board?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your pet on board.

Can I bring my own alcohol?

YES! You can BYOB  we provide a selection of beverages on board, including Rum Punch, Bahama Mama Beer (local and imported),  and upon request we can provide….. at additional cost.  white wine, and French champagne for toasting. While we do allow you to bring your own alcohol, we kindly request that you speak to our staff beforehand for guidance.

Is there a restroom onboard?

Yes, our 34ft Corsa, 34ft Rinker & 33ft Sea Ray Sundancer are all equipped with a restroom and a full shower facility for your convenience.

Can I bring my baby on board?

Absolutely! Infants are allowed on board our vessels. Our cabin cruiser provides a comfortable environment with a full kitchen, stateroom, and air conditioning for napping.

However, we kindly ask that children under 7 years old are not left unattended inside the cabin cruiser as a safety precaution. We also provide infant life jackets suitable for babies aged 12 months and up.

What kind of payment do you accept?

We accept cash and all major credit cards. For your security, we also offer payment processing through Cash App, Venmo, and Zelle. We encourage online payments, as they give you greater control over your data. In the event of weather-related cancellations or refunds, please note that it may take us 1-3 days to process the refund.

What is the cancellation policy?

We understand that plans can change, and we strive to accommodate your needs. If you need to cancel or reschedule your trip, please inform us as soon as possible.

Do your boats have music?

Certainly! Our vessels are equipped with a JBL sound system that can be accessed via Bluetooth. Additionally, we offer XM and local radio options to enhance your boating experience.

What is included with all packages?

Customize your island party! With all our packages, you can expect a team of dedicated captains, mates, bartenders, and operations and support staff who possess extensive backgrounds in hospitality. They are experts in the boating, watersports, and tour business, ensuring that you have a fantastic experience.

Our popular boat parties in the Bahamas come with complimentary dry snacks and beverages, and we also offer the option of an island barbecue. Moreover, you have the flexibility to customize your island party by bringing your own food and beverage, which our staff can serve. We can even arrange for private caterers to cater your event, providing you with a truly personalized and unforgettable experience.

Do you offer transportation to and from the boat?

We offer transportation to and from the boat at an additional cost. Please contact us with the number of persons in your group.

Is there a minimum age requirement for jet ski rentals?

Children aged five and above can participate in the JetSki ride. Youth aged 12 years and over can drive with an accompanying adult.

Are fishing licenses included in the adventure fishing package?

Fishing licenses are not required for fishing charters, and you are welcome to keep what you catch.

What happens in case of a medical emergency?

In the event of a medical emergency, we will promptly contact the United States Coast Guard or Royal Bahamas Defense Force, adhering to maritime safety protocols.

Spanish Wells Deep Sea Fishing

Captain Bentley, specializes in world-class bonefishing around Spanish Wells, home of some of the best flats in the world! If you're looking to catch bonefish on the fly, there is no better place than the Bahamas. Happy and "uneducated" bonefish swim around everywhere and infest the local flats and chanels. Included in your trip are snacks, water, ice, and all the necessary fishing gear. If you'd like to bring your own gear, Captain Brentley encourages you to do so! When you head out with Captain Bentley, you'll be stalking the endless gin-clear flats aboard his 18-foot Action Craft flats boat. The boat can carry up to three anglers per trip but 2 will fish much more comfortably and is preferable since added wait can make it harder for your captain to pole the boat around. Positioned on the front of the bow, fly rod in one hand, shrimp imitation fly in the other, Captain Bentley will pole you around looking for mud clouds and light grey torpedos. Cruising fish (torpedos) can be tough to catch, especially since there often on high alert. But if you can make a cast past--and infront of--the fish, you can strip it back by them to intersect their path and entice a bite! Muds can be easy to spot and are a sign of happy fish milling around looking for a meal. You don't even need to see the fish sometimes: after your Captain poles you within striking distance of the cloud of mud, you can make a delicate cast just beyond it, and twitch your fly through for an epic bite! Give it a big strip to set the hook (Don't raise the rod tip), and get ready for one of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean (pound for pound). Captain Bentley is based out of Spanish Wells, and will happily come pick you up if you're staying in Spanish Wells or Eleuthera. If you're staying on Harbour Island, he asks that you please ferry back over to the dock in Eleuthra and he will meet you there! Exotica Charters Announces Availability of New Yacht Charter Locations Due To a Wide Adoption and Innovative Use of This Technology

Exotica Charters is a premier yacht charter company owned by DMA Yachting, a renowned international yacht charter group, focusing on charters in exotic locations. New areas have become available due to total adoption and leveraging of a new technology.

United States - September 19, 2024 —

The availability of yacht charters was long dependent upon available marinas that allow for resupply after every charter. As the average size of a crewed charter vessel increased from 45 feet to 90+ feet, they could hold much more supplies. Nowadays, there are only 2 items that need to be restocked frequently - fresh produce and water. Since most charter locations burst with fresh fruit and fish, only water needed to be solved.

myBVIcharter is the leading US yacht charter company offering a robust fleet of catamarans and motor yachts in the British Virgin Islands. The classic weekly itinerary sees all the yachts depart on Saturday in a counterclockwise direction towards Virgin Gorda and Anegada, looping on Tortola on the way back, with the last leg from Jost Van Dyke.

Depending on the day, yachts used to move like the “Spanish Armada”. As yachts started to adopt the water maker, they suddenly had more options to start from almost anywhere, as guests could be picked up on a tender. This means that travelers can start their charter on day 3, staying ahead of the main fleet while on the same itinerary.

In Greece, the effect is twofold as explained by Mo, the Charter Guru at myGreekcharter . Firstly, there are new ways to discover classic locations. Since the first yachts started allowing Santorini pickup/dropoff, other yachts chose to follow suit. Santorini does not have a marina, and the pickup with a tender was a game changer. The amount of water needed for 15 people made daily stocking impractical and the yachts chose to start and finish in Athens.

Secondly, new charter areas in Greece have become available. As new yachts continued to arrive, the Athens’ marinas were full around 2022. The new yachts needed to find new marinas. A fundamental question - “why do we need a marina?”, led to yachts operating in areas previously not touched by the crewed yachts - Sporades and Dodecanese islands.

As Daniel, the owner of DMA Yachting, explains, ”We’re seeing first 3-4 crewed yachts permanently stationed in the Sporades and 8-10 yachts in the Dodecanese. Previously, you had to charter from Athens and ideally take a 2-week charter. This is no longer the case - you can start almost anywhere.”

The situation with the motor yacht Bahamas is similar. The previously Nassau-centric model, where all yachts started in Nassau and went for a weekly “milk run” charter to the Exumas, is challenged. “People don’t want to charter in the same spot twice”, explains Mo. “With 2,400 Cays, why not start in Eleuthera or even Long Island? And if the charterer wants to start in Staniel Cay, why get there from Nassau? Start the charter there!”

The water maker is not a new technology. It’s been around for a long time. It’s the innovative use, wide adoption, and necessity to spend less or no time in the marina that made the yachts offered by myBVIcharter behave differently. 

According to Daniel, owner of the DMA Yachting group comprised of myBVIcharter, Exotic Charters, Bahamas Motor Yachts & myGreekcharter, the adoption of water makers skyrocketed from a humble 30% to a whopping 100% in the last five years. 

Due to over-tourism and overcrowding in mainstream locations, people seeking intimate retreats are becoming increasingly more interested in exotic spots like Thailand, Raja Ampat, Galapagos or Antarctica. A water maker onboard is the key technological change that made these new locations feasible.

Exotica Charters , a yacht charter specialist in emerging and remote locations owned by DMA Yachting, has also observed increasing deployment of water makers in its fleet. “We’re suddenly able to create completely new itineraries, as we can do a route ABCD instead of A to A. You can get picked up in B and dropped off at C a week later. We’re seeing multiweek charters covering huge distances, especially in the Med: Sardina/Corsica, France to Italy to Malta, Ionian to Turkey in Greece.”

Yacht charter VAT woe ‘definitely news to me’

A senior tax official yesterday said complaints that visiting yachts are struggling to pay VAT on charter contracts is “definitely news to me”.

Dexter Fernander, the Department of Inland Revenue’s operations chief, told Tribune Business he is “baffled” at assertions by Peter Maury, the Association of Bahamas Marinas (ABM) president, that yacht and boat charters are facing significant delays in obtaining Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs) because there is a “fast track process” for their issuance.

Calling on the ABM chief to provide evidence to support his concerns, he added that the Department of Inland Revenue typically issues TIN numbers within “30 minutes” of the Port Department sending it a copy of the charter contract because it knows this is “easy money” for the cash-strapped Public Treasury to collect.

Mr Fernander spoke out after Mr Maury complained to this newspaper that yacht charters are now facing delays of up to six to eight weeks to obtain a TIN number from the tax authorities. Besides creating an obstacle to obtaining a charter licence, which requires a valid TIN, the ABM president asserted that this is also holding up tax payments that are badly needed by the Government.

Mr Maury said that, in some cases, Bahamas-based yacht agents and brokers are holding the VAT monies due from their boating clients and paying these on the latter’s behalf when the TIN number comes through. But, if the quarterly VAT filing deadline for payment is missed, he added that local companies were returning the tax payment to their clients and telling them to submit this sum in the next filing period.

Explaining that local agents feared being stuck with liabilities if they held the VAT payment, either to the Government or the client, Mr Maury told Tribune Business: “We can’t get TIN numbers to file for those boats. We have the VAT payments, but without the TIN numbers we don’t have a way to submit the payments when the boats are here.

“In some cases, three months ago, I had applied for it and can’t even get TIN numbers. I don’t know what it is. I know in my company, and heard from other companies, that they’re waiting for TINs. It takes forever to get a TIN number, and then you have to file the VAT and you can’t get a charter licence until you get the TIN number.”

Mr Maury, arguing that the delays in obtaining TIN numbers represented a further deterrent to visiting boats and charters coming to The Bahamas, added: “It just makes it difficult for the yachts to be compliant. The biggest thing is the yachts are owned by wealthy people. The last thing they want to do is do something wrong in the country and have a tax liability or anything else. They will choose other destinations.”

Confirming that yacht and charter agents/brokers are reluctant to hold on to VAT payments on behalf of clients, the ABM president said that if a filing period was missed the funds are being returned to the boats because “nobody wants that liability”. They then have to file and pay in the following quarterly reporting period.

“The Bahamas agents don’t want to have the funds in their account because the boats are going to say: ‘Where’s the receipt from the Government to cover their end?’ I’m not going to hold on to it. It’s money that has to be submitted. The Government is going to say where’s my money? It puts Bahamian businesses in a precarious position,” Mr Maury said.

After starting out well, he added that yacht charter requests for TIN numbers were now sometimes taking as long as six to eight weeks to come through. He added that the delays appeared to start around March this year, when the Department of Inland Revenue was facing the bulk of Business Licence fee payments, filings and related inquiries.

However, when informed by Tribune Business of Mr Maury’s complaint, Mr Fernander retorted: “That’s definitely news to me. Once the Port [Department] signs off on a copy of the contract we fast track those. We don’t even let 30 minutes go. That’s very interesting. That’s very strange.”

Acknowledging that he was not directly responsible for dealing with yacht charter VAT, he added: “I can’t even see a reason for a delay. Thirty minutes after the Port gets a copy of the charter contract we regularise them. That’s easy money. The fast track process, we do not to my knowledge, we don’t have any delays. We try to get them because it’s easy, quick revenue.”

Mr Fernander then challenged M Maury: “Give us a reference to validate the claims you make so that we can check on this stuff. We don’t have any delay on this stuff. That’s easy turnover revenue for the Government and we have a special fast track process for them. I’m baffled by the comment.”

The Department of Inland Revenue chief said he would reach out to Shunda Strachan, its acting comptroller, and ask her to contact Tribune Business for further comment. No call, though, was received before press time last night.

Mr Maury, meanwhile, said he believed the TIN delays are due to Department of Inland Revenue staff being “swamped with all the work and requests” they have to deal with. He added: “I know we’ve sent in requests for TIN numbers as agents and sometimes don’t get a response.

“In my other businesses we’ve asked questions on the portal and sometimes it takes them two to three weeks to get back because of all the stuff they’re dealing with. The business are so overworked, and I’m sure they’re overworked.”

Do the units work in the same building, attend strategy sessions to look at monthly numbers, have each others contacts? Why does the head of operation not have numbers on operations?

This might be the clue, they started out well, things have deteriorated and the Operations Chief isnt aware of what's happening in Operations.

Anyone, anyone who has ever dealt with a Bahamian government office knows very well we operate under guidelines when typewriters were still in use. Our mentality and operations are still back in last century. Look at each new ONLINE rollout. All done before we have the trained technicians and a uniform procedure. Listening to a government official defend the backwards mentality of our nation is just icing on the cake of these obvious failures. It is always the victims fault.

What typically happens is they automate the interface to the customer, so theres a big fan fare that weve gone digital and it's simply data collection. The backend process is a stream of manual processes. " Starting out ", the system works, but as volume increases, the delays start to build and build exponentially because nobody stopped during the planning phase to hold their hand up and say, we have X amount of staff, it takes Y hours for 50 to be processed and we have 8 hours per day, if we get 100 we can add some overtime, but if we get 1000, like we normally do or one person takes vacation, " this is not scaleable "
