Bali 5.4 Sailing Catamaran

A Grand Vision at Sea

Olivier Poncin and the CATANA design team have reached new heights with the Bali 5.4 Open Space , the grand and innovative 54-foot vessel that tops out their extensive line of leisure cruising catamarans. Ergonomic living spaces and an easy flow grace her decks from bow to stern. Aboard the 5.4, you’ll find many of the same features that Bali fans have come to know and love, including an even more expansive flybridge area and an integral forward deck replacing the trampoline. Like other catamarans in the Bali lineup, her CATANA build assures excellent durability and seakeeping qualities . And in spite of her size, she remains easy to sail and manage , even when short-handed.

Beyond the Expected

Among the varied living and lounging spaces aboard the Bali 5.4, you’ll be hard-pressed to choose a favorite. The flybridge remains a crowd-pleaser with cushioned wrap-around seating and large sunbed that together can easily accommodate up to 12 guests . The flow and guest safety throughout is enhanced by wide side decks , both forward and aft doors to access the saloon , and a stairway on either side for access to the flybridge . For the skipper, a comfortable well-equipped helm station provides excellent visibility, and the self-tacking jib and large electric winches assist with handling.

bali 51 catamaran

Incomparable Comforts

Bali’s signature tilting-opening door opens the entire back of the yacht to the aft deck , for an entirely open-air experience at the push of a button. The main dining table offers comfortable seating for 12 , with additional bench seating in the saloon and aft cockpit . The saloon is rounded out with an exceptionally well-equipped U-shaped galley , complete with full-sized refrigerator, opening front window for access to the forward cockpit , and a corner navigation station. The outstanding Bali 5.4 catamaran is available in 4-, 5- and 6-cabin ensuite configurations to suit your live-aboard cruising style.

Lagoon vs Bali catamarans

Heard of both brands, but wish you knew more about them? With Lagoon and Bali present on the market as two of the most renowned catamaran brands, we invite you to read the comparative review of Lagoon and Bali catamarans below.

Bali catamarans: Overview

When we say Bali, we do not mean the beautiful island everyone knows about in Indonesia. Even the pronunciation is different. Put an accent on the ‘i’ and make it longer. When you read it out loud, you will hear that you are not talking about the island. Now that we got this cleared up, let’s get down to business.

Bali Catamarans are a part of the Catana Group and have been on the market for less than 10 years. In 2014 the first models of cruising catamarans were presented and have been accepted exceptionally well in a short period of time.

One of the first things you will notice when seeing a Bali catamaran is its elegant, beautiful and sleek design . Bali catamarans are one of the most beautifully designed catamarans, with innovative design solutions. Bali catamarans have sharper edges compared to Lagoon catamarans. They really do leave you breathless.

Another thing is the solid foredeck . There is no trampoline which you might see on other catamarans. A solid foredeck provides more space for entertainment on cushions and large sunbeds. Many experienced sailors say that the solid construction makes the Bali catamarans stronger compared to others without the solid foredeck, even though it does not significantly add to the overall weight.

Loving the outdoor/indoor feel ? Bali catamarans offer you exactly this! One of its main features which separate them from others is the main deck saloon. For example, on the Bali 4.3 you can easily open up your closed saloon with the garage door (tilting swing door). If there is too much wind or bad weather is just around the corner, easily close the saloon to create a closed indoor lounge in just a few seconds.

If you do not like the ‘feels like a hotel’ boat and the open space main deck, then Bali catamarans might not be the boats for you. There is hardly any outdoor ‘privacy’ as everything is really well connected and open and everyone is constantly together unless you pick some of the bigger models like the Bali 4.8 or Bali 5.4 .

If you have kids and want to give them additional entertainment such as a trampoline, the trampoline foredeck is missing on a Bali catamaran. You will never find the nets on any Bali catamaran model so this might make your choice easier.

Going into more technical details and compared to other catamarans, the booms are slightly higher which can occasionally cause problems to skippers if the mainsail needs to be manually handled. Cabins are not so high compared to Lagoon models so, for taller guests, this could be a slight issue.

Luxury Bali Catamaran models

Bali has several models ranging from 11.8m such as the Bali 4.0 , all the way to Bali 5.4 which is 16.2m long. The larger charter models are growing into true luxury catamarans. Even with the tiniest details, Bali catamarans are doing their best to bring the luxury feel even closer to you.

If you have decided that it is finally time to experience something ‘wow’, Yacht4Less recommends the luxury models such as the Bali 5.4. Bali 5.4 is available with 4, 5 or 6 cabins for up to 10-14 people. Find the perfect 5 cabin Bali 5.4 in Croatia .

Bali 5.4 not only offers you a stunningly comfortable catamaran with a lot of space for relaxation, an enormous flybridge large enough for a home-made cinema area, and a newly designed forward cockpit entertainment area which can be accessed from the galley directly, but you can also access the aft cabins directly from the aft deck. If you are an early bird, this is the perfect boat as you will not wake up others on board.

Lagoon Catamarans: Overview

When someone says the word catamaran, people will first think of a Lagoon, no doubt about it. Lagoon is the most known catamaran brand as they are the world leader in producing cruising catamarans. Being a part of the Beneteau Group, they have evolved and worked on making top-of-the-line catamarans for charters since 1984, which is almost 40 years now.

The interior and cabins are very spacious and high, which is very convenient for taller guests. Cabins have plenty of storage for everyone’s belongings so don’t worry about bringing too many summer dresses. You can enjoy the panoramic views from the galley and indoor seating area. The windows stretch from one side to the other, giving full 360’ views when indoors.

Exterior : the famous trampoline! The best way to recognize a Lagoon is by two trampoline nets up front. You can suntan, chill and read while enjoying the sound and breeze of the sea below you. There is no better feeling! On top of that, there is plenty of outside space for entertaining. Even if you do not want to dine all together every time, kids can be at one table, adults at another. The feel of the terrace-on-water is unique to the Lagoon as everything is very open.

Something to keep in mind is that Lagoons have been around for a very long time so they have also been tested and reviewed by many sailors, making the Lagoon catamarans a ‘safe’ choice compared to others.

Even though the Lagoon catamarans are very spacious and big, when compared to other catamaran brands, they are the bulkiest of all. This, of course, will not affect your holiday in any way, however, they are not the most luxurious-looking models out there - alghough, this is subjective -. As the Lagoons are very heavy, they are also not the best in performance if you're looking for an active sailing trip.

In comparison to other catamaran models, Lagoons usually have smaller water tanks. We advise that you check the size of water tanks and ask your Yacht4Less charter consultant to source one equipped with a watermaker if you are sailing with a lot of people, especially when chartering in the Caribbean or Exotics where there are fewer available stops to re-fill.

As Lagoon is a well-astonished brand, the prices of Lagoon catamarans might be higher in comparison to other brands with the same features and cabin numbers. Don't forget to check in with your Yacht4Less yacht charter consultant for the market's best rates on the dates and boat you pref er.

Luxury Lagoon Catamaran models

Expanding its portfolio of catamaran models, Lagoon has introduced several luxurious models in the past years. The Seventy7 and Sixty5 catamarans are some of the most luxurious sailing yachts. Due to their size, these catamarans are usually only offered on a crewed basis. If these are slightly out of your budget, Yacht4Less recommends the Lagoon 52F and the brand new Lagoon 51.

The Lagoon 52F is one of the most accepted models yet as it is the result of customer feedback and suggestions which have been collected over the years. There is no other catamaran which has applied so much constructive feedback. Architects remained true to the Lagoon key features while making every other change for the better!

Due to this and the upgrade in materials and style, the Lagoon 52F is a model you should not ignore. The Lagoon 52 review has already been published in detail . The difference now is that the flybridge has been added. Not only can the helm be reached from two sides (from the cockpit and the starboard side), the flybridge adds another wonderful entertaining area.

If you are one of those people who always look at the new models of things in life, the Lagoon 51 should be on your radar. This new model became available in the summer of 2022, so you might be one of the first to experience it.

Its best and hottest feature is the large flybridge where the skipper and the guests can be together at all times. The flybridge has 2 large sun pads and a C-shaped seating area with the helm station in the centre. Even the central table can be lowered into a huge sunbathing area. Isn’t that cool for a flybridge?

The indoor saloon has been lifted, making the panoramic views even better. The transoms are extended making it easy to get on board from the dock, and also giving you an additional platform to stay closer to the water when anchored.

Final thoughts: Which is better?

bali 51 catamaran

It might sound crazy but if one of the most important things to you about a catamaran is the trampoline up front, then Lagoon is the answer. Kids love this feature. It offers a truly unique experience while sailing and anchored.

Both brands are great for a relaxing holiday and have won many awards, so whichever you choose, you will not have any regrets. We could not tell you which is better as there honestly is no correct answer.

To describe the shared living area aboard the Bali 5.4 catamaran —a tilt-and-lift door between cockpit and saloon all but eliminates the distinction between indoors and out—a builder’s representative said that the open space created by the lack of interior bulkheads means the boat will be enjoyed “no matter the weather.”

I was, in fact, able to test that theory a few days after the close of the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, when our Boat of the Year judges and I returned to the Bali for sea trials in monsoon-like conditions. After a thorough dousing (but very enjoyable trick at the wheel) atop the flybridge, I headed below, where, covered by the Bimini, all was as dry as a bone. And yes, the surroundings were indeed enjoyable. The ride was smooth and comfy, like a big old American Buick on a cobblestone street, but with Euro styling and bunks to sleep in.

At 55 feet LOA, the 5.4 is Bali’s flagship. The boats are built in France by the Catana Group, which also produces performance-oriented Catana catamarans. The Bali brand was launched in 2014 both to serve the charter market and for private owners as well. Catana CEO Olivier Poncin is responsible for the concept, and naval architect Xavier Fay, the engineering.

Built using essentially the same production methods as the Catanas (if not the same exotic Kevlar and carbon fibers), the Balis’ fiberglass hulls, decks, and Biminis are infused and foam-cored. The Balis do without the daggerboards that are trademarks of their sportier cousins; instead, short keels on either hull prevent leeway and provide protection in case of a beaching.

Because of its size, a number of options are offered on the 5.4. An owner can have four, five or six en suite guest cabins; forepeak accommodations for captain and mate are also available. The six-cabin boat we sailed carries a price tag of right around $1.2 million.

I liked the layout of the guest cabins. The aft ones are entered through their own companionways in the cockpit. I found them both to be a bit tight sizewise, but then again, you’re going to be in them only to sleep. Stairs forward in the saloon lead to the midship and forward cabins. Besides hatches overhead, each cabin has a port in the hull, and the double berths are laid out athwartships, so everyone gets a view of the great outdoors.

With the potential for 12 charter guests, plus crew, the 5.4 offers numerous places to congregate. Let’s start at the bow, and take a little walking tour. A feature introduced on this model is a forward door in the saloon that opens onto the foredeck and its forward cockpit and table. Rather than trampoline netting between the bows, the Balis have fiberglass from hull to hull, with lots of cushions for sitting, napping and sunning.

Strolling aft, stairs on either side of the cabin lead to the flybridge, where the helm and sail controls are located to starboard under a soft top. Winches are close at hand for taming the two mainsheets led to blocks set aft on either side of the Bimini, the single self-tacking jib sheet and the sheets for the screecher that’s set and flown on a sprit. The large expanse to port and behind the wheel awaits those along for ride, with a pair of tables surrounded by seats, a sink and fridge, and a large cushioned area aft for lounging.

In the cockpit below, there is yet more space to congregate before heading back into the saloon, where a long table with a bench and folding chairs occupies two-thirds of the port side; a well-stocked U-shaped galley is tucked in up forward. Opposite is a nav station/control center, more seating aft, and a home-style fridge and freezer in between. As I said, there are lots of places to congregate.

To be honest, though, it was the Bali’s sailing performance that got my attention. As I mentioned, the breeze was snarly—in the mid to high teens, with gusts above that. We started out with a reef in the main and the self-tacking jib, and saw speeds in 6.3-knot range. Yes, we were probably undercanvased, but still, the helm was lively and I was able to feather up and still maintain a decent pace with the wind closer to 35 to 40 degrees apparent—not always a productive point of sail for a big cruising cat. Later, reaching with the screecher flying, the speedo jumped to 8 knots, and I saw a 9 in one or two of the puffs.

In my notes, I had one other thing underlined: party. Yes, the Bali is well-suited for that too.

Lagoon 55 Vs. Bali 5.4

Catamaran comparison, in this article, we compare the all-new lagoon 55 to the existing mega success of the bali 5.4, multihulls have been growing in popularity for the past years, and there is no sign of catamarans stopping their conquest anytime soon.

Major brands known for their monohull production have now a dedicated line for multihulls. In this article, we compare the all-new Lagoon 55 to the already establish Bali 5.4 that has become a sure bet for the investor looking for crewed charter management catamaran.

The popularity of catamarans can be explained by their stability, manoeuvrability and comfortable and spacious living areas. They are  great for chartering .In case you are unfamiliar about the two brands or the catamaran models in question, here’s a brief introduction.

Bali catamarans is part of the Catana Group , which in turn is part of the Fountaine Holding group which one’s majority share is the largest network of yacht charter businesses in the bareboat market (Dream Yacht Charters). In less than 5 years, Bali Catamarans has succeeded in establishing a new style and imposing technical choices in a market which, although expanding and being boosted by fleet replacements (following Hurricane Irma, among others), is one that is highly competitive. The skill of the designer and the mastery of composite construction has allowed for reducing or even eliminating the objections linked to this nacelle architecture (for this type of program), which has facilitated the scale-up of the Bali family to charter and private owners. Catana Group’s Bali range is incredibly dynamic and several evolutions are currently in the pipeline! The launch of the Bali 5.4, however, is a major step forward that will allow the brand to enter the charter fleets at the right time, at the right level, and at an affordable price

Lagoon is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of cruising catamarans.  The brand values freedom and lifestyle, resulting in elegant and comfortable yachts. Designed by Nauta Design and Patrick le Quément, The Lagoon 55 represents innovation, freedom, and courage – the fundamentals of the Lagoon brand. Nauta Design followed Lagoon’s brief closely in creating this Interior Design concept. The shipyard’s primary objective was to bring the same level of high-quality lifestyle defined by bright and elegant spaces and a sense of peaceful, harmonious lightness as is found on Lagoon’s larger cats, to this new catamaran. An objective we shared with the builder. Nauta worked closely with Lagoon and with Patrick le Quément to open up vistas and sources of natural light, using horizontal lines to give a sense of continuity with the seascape and the horizon and to free up visual space so that guests can really enjoy the sea, the sky, the sun and the beauty of their surroundings.

The global launch has been held back a bit, but we have been promised to see the first hulls launched and handed over to its new owners in spring 2022.

exterior design features and aspects

lagoon55 exterior5

Lagoon 55   Exterior

The Lagoon 55  has a contemporary design with voluminous hulls.

It is the shipyard’s latest model and stands to replace the Lagoon 560. The Lagoon 55 was officially unveiled in early March 2021 and received a huge amount of interest from dealers and buyers alike, with the order availability now opening up. Bearing the signature Lagoon profile – classic, sleek and timeless – this new sailing catamaran reflects a new concept of onboard living and increased connection to the sea.

This boat has no straight line, no flat surface, all lines are stretched, all surfaces are compound. This is done to express strength and quality. Nothing has been left to chance, it is is a boat totally designed in every detail.

The design includes generous spaces allowing guests to find their own private relaxed area in the many different spots onboard. Her multi-function transoms are not just for moving around the boat but also serve as a living space when at anchor, either for cooking outdoors or for direct access to the sea.

A highlight is the transom, which has been designed to be an on-water terrace, equipped with an outdoor galley, that is perfect for socializing. The new concept of access on board and circulation offers a new sensation. The aft skirts are no longer just a space for movement, but a real living space at anchor, for cooking outdoors or simply dreaming at the water’s edge.

The Lagoon 55 provides first-class comfort with a large forward cockpit ideal for sunset aperitifs and a huge flybridge with a dining table, extensive sun pads, and a wet bar.

Docked Bali 5.4 from behind

Bali 5.4   Exterior

The Bali 5.4 is all about lounging space. The decks seem to go on forever, with cushioned surfaces everywhere. Up to 12 vacationers can take in the views on the foredeck, the afterdeck or atop the flybridge. Contrary to the trend of the majority of catamarans of this size, the Bali 5.4 doesn’t offer the traditional cockpit with table, bench seating and lounger, but completely redraws this aft space by merging it with the convertible saloon/gallery (open to the outside with the tilting bay window and side panels). This “revolution” goes against the “cockpit lounge” option chosen by their French or South African competitors by replacing it with a nacelle space and by adding a new living space forward.

With the exception of the comfortable bench seat athwartships, the stern of the boat is more dedicated to the role of an exchange area between inside and outside and for access to the sugarscoops or gangway (when the tender is in the water). The design for moving around the boat unveils new possibilities and allows you to reach the huge forward cockpit directly through a forward door: an unparalleled solution, conquering the usual trampoline, to offer a friendly relaxation/sunbathing/brunch/happy-hour space worthy of a model 10 feet longer!

Considering the extreme optimization and innovative organization of the space on board the 5.4, the flybridge was essential for clearing the technical hardware from the deck and offering a fitting helm station that also serves as a desirable marine terrace (accessible from both sides). The deck layout is simple and efficient with a readable and direct distribution of sail handling maneuvers: the 2 electric winches are obviously essential

interior design features

lagoon55 interior4

Lagoon 55   Interior

The Lagoon 55 has a 360-degree loft-style saloon connected to the cockpit.

As in all of Lagoon’s collaborations, Nauta Design worked jointly with Lagoon to design the interior design of the Lagoon 55. The main objective of the project was to create a high quality of life on board: bright and elegant spaces, as well as a serene and harmonious atmosphere, directly inspired by Lagoon yachts. Nauta design worked  with Patrick le Quément, to offer new perspectives, and to open the interior to natural light sources using horizontal lines, in order to enjoy continuity with the seascape and the horizon. The visual field is freed so that the guests can enjoy the sea, the sky, the sun, and the beauty of the surroundings.

Another stunning feature is the internal overhead windows, which provide a breath-taking vista of star-studded skies. Large windows and two spectacular skylights in the saloon are key features of this new model that further enhance what Lagoon catamarans are famous for spaciousness, comfort, stability, modern design, and plenty of practical solutions on board. There are several layouts available with 3-5 cabin layouts depending on the yacht’s usage. The interiors by Nauta Design  are bathed in an abundance of natural light with a soothing walnut wood finish.

The galley of the Bali 5.4 with elegant design on everything from the windows, sink and stove, to the practical built-in bottle holders

Bali 5.4   Interior

The designers have done an exceptional job of providing for this multitude of guests in only 54ft. Each cabin has a full double berth and ensuite head. The layout plan provides direct access from the outside to the two aft cabins (extra freedom for late nights or early risers!). The other 4 cabins (all equipped with private bathroom and toilet facilities!) are accessible by 2 lateral companionways, on either side of the chart table (which will be better integrated into the hulls on future units to facilitate forward passage) and from the galley.

The individual volumes of our 6 cabin version are only slightly smaller than those of some traditional owner’s versions and meet the primary expectations of the typical client couple: privacy and comfort. A real achievement on a boat of this size! The clean style is effective without being impersonal: the upholstery and the combination of materials create a pleasant and functional atmosphere that lends itself well to personalization through simple decorative contributions and the woodwork is of a high standard.

The two crew cabins are comfortable and practical, and their individual access via deck hatches is coupled with the possibility of entering in bad weather via an internal watertight door: very well thought out!

Captain: Rob Bentley

*Book your vacation with an award-winning yacht! We're excited to announce that Belinda took home 2nd place in the Culinary Competition at the 2023 VIPCA Show!* Captain Rob Bentley Born in South Africa and growing up on the East coast of Kwa Zulu Natal, Rob has been a “water boy” his whole life. He is an accomplished sailor with over 30,000 sea miles under his belt on a range of vessels. Worthy of mention was the family sailing adventure where Rob, Belinda and their 2 children embarked on a 4-year world cruise on their catamaran, Shayile. They cruised the East Coast of Africa, Indian Ocean, SE Asia, Indonesia, and Australia. Rob has a passion for the ocean and loves water sports. He is a qualified surf life saver, pilot, advanced diver, and avid fisherman. He has a particular passion for salt water flyfishing. He loves to go out and hopefully return with something delicious to toss on the BBQ. Mountaineering is Rob's other passion, and he has hours of adventures on mountains spanning the globe. His epic adventure to Mt. Everest is worth listening to over a cocktail sundowner! When Rob is not out skippering and entertaining, you will see him working in the galley with Belinda. Cocktails and the BBQ are part of Rob’s regime, and he knows the perfect stories to tell while you enjoy them! Chef Belinda Bentley Born and raised on the East Coast of South Africa, Belinda has spent her life close to the sea, camping, swimming, scuba diving and fishing as well as hiking and climbing the inland Drakensberg mountains. She is a ‘people’s person’ and in addition to her culinary training, is also trained as a professional nurse, specializing in maternity. Belinda is a generous and passionate cook who has been influenced by travel and time spent in many different countries. She is particularly fond of Asian cuisine, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, but also enjoys spicy Mexican, Indian and Mediterranean influences. She loves to cook fish and seafood and pair it with local, fresh, seasonal ingredients. She enjoys bright and bold flavours, especially citrus notes which do well to compliment the Caribbean climate. Delicious cool and creamy desserts round off dinner and ensure full and satisfied guests! Waking up to fresh morning coffee and watching the sun set with drinks and appetizers are the absolute essence of life aboard and she can’t wait to welcome you!

  • wpcf_mainimg_description: Book your vacation with an award-winning yacht! Mystic is the 2nd place winner of the Culinary Competition at the 2023 VIPCA Show! The Bali 5.4 is a “Multihull of the Year” award-winning catamaran. The design was new to the market in 2019 and provided a fresh approach to sailing. It is revolutionary in how space is accessed, with deliberate attention to flow and open space and it succeeds in producing a scale that feels less like a boat, and more like an upscale floating condominium. Bali catamarans are known and appreciated for their unparalleled success in blending luxury, space, and performance; producing a sailing experience that is unparalleled. This new design further capitalizes on that reputation with the advent of the “Bali garage door” that is the centerpiece of the yacht. It allows for the aft wall of the yacht to simply disappear, opening up the back of the yacht to an unobstructed view of paradise. This also affords indoor/outdoor dining options and gives the ever-present Caribbean breeze ample opportunity to make its way through the yacht with ease. With her solid foredeck gone are the forward trampolines, replaced by a large relaxing lounge area complete with cushions for sunbathing. A full-sized door provides access directly from the lounge area into the salon, allowing free movement through the yacht. A walk up to the flybridge unveils a seating area perfect for cocktails and taking in sunsets. There is also another area for sunbathing on the flybridge where you can take in the sights of the islands from the highest vantage point on the yacht. The Bali open space design is further complimented by the superior outfit and aftermarket items available on Mystic. No detail has been left unnoticed from the fine linens, pillows and throws to the wine glasses, serving and flatware that make every day feel luxurious. She has been stocked full with every appliance and kitchen accessory to allow the chef to fully showcase the mastery of their art. And the water toys abound, allowing guests to fully experience all the Caribbean has to offer, both in and out of the water. Mystic will accommodate 8 charter guests in 3 spacious queen cabins and 1 sprawling master cabin for those who desire more space. She is a brand new 2023 sailing catamaran with teak on the aft yacht, hydraulic lift, solar panels, air conditioning, water maker, ice maker, full sized refrigerator, a fully customizable menu, Caribbean made ecofriendly and reef safe toiletries, a bar stocked to guest preference, coffee/espresso machine, rendezvous scuba diving, snorkeling gear, underwater scooters, wakeboard, stand up paddle board, 10 ft. floating dock, pool noodles, fishing gear, board and card games, television in the salon, Fusion 3 Bluetooth enabled sound system and Mystic giveaways.

We're excited to announce that Belinda took home 2nd place in the Culinary Competition at the 2023 VIPCA Show!*<br /> <br /> Captain<br /> Rob Bentley<br /> <br /> Born in South Africa and growing up on the East coast of Kwa Zulu Natal, Rob has been a “water boy” his whole life. He is an accomplished sailor with over 30,000 sea miles under his belt on a range of vessels.<br /> <br /> Worthy of mention was the family sailing adventure where Rob, Belinda and their 2 children embarked on a 4-year world cruise on their catamaran, Shayile. They cruised the East Coast of Africa, Indian Ocean, SE Asia, Indonesia, and Australia. <br /> <br /> Rob has a passion for the ocean and loves water sports. Everest is worth listening to over a cocktail sundowner!<br /> <br /> When Rob is not out skippering and entertaining, you will see him working in the galley with Belinda. Cocktails and the BBQ are part of Rob’s regime, and he knows the perfect stories to tell while you enjoy them!<br /> <br /> Chef<br /> Belinda Bentley<br /> <br /> Born and raised on the East Coast of South Africa, Belinda has spent her life close to the sea, camping, swimming, scuba diving and fishing as well as hiking and climbing the inland Drakensberg mountains.<br /> <br /> She is a ‘people’s person’ and in addition to her culinary training, is also trained as a professional nurse, specializing in maternity. <br /> <br /> Belinda is a generous and passionate cook who has been influenced by travel and time spent in many different countries. We just returned from a week in the BVI with these two, and the experience was<br /> absolutely fabulous!<br /> <br /> B – everything, I mean everything, she made for us was absolutely over the top good. I am<br /> not a big fan of pasta nor of lobster, and she made a lobster fettuccine that may be one of<br /> the best dishes I’ve ever enjoyed in my six plus decades. The care and detail she imbued in<br /> her cooking - from the wafting aromas, vast ingredients, and the stunning plating - left us in<br /> awe three times a day for a week. Her desserts were the most imaginative, creative,<br /> delicious delights that capped off every evening. Our suggestions prior to the voyage were<br /> taken and delivered to us on a higher level than we could’ve imagined. B in the kitchen<br /> always had a smile and was quick to jump in with a running commentary that was pleasant<br /> and with a commitment to satisfy our culinary desires. I’m not sure how I am going to eat<br /> out again after experiencing the quality of food I had on the Mystic.<br /> <br /> Rob might be Jason Bourne – just sayin. He was able to eek out an additional knot here and<br /> there with a rigging here and a trim there. Additionally, he was so accommodating and<br /> always patiently willing to share his rationale for sailing actions and the principles in the<br /> nautical journey. Rob’s four plus years of sailing around the world allayed any hesitations<br /> about our safety on the trip. He has boundless energy and was primarily invested in making<br /> sure that we had the best possible experience. One afternoon we went for a quick fly<br /> fishing expedition off a point just outside our cove – forty five minutes later we are both<br /> trying to pull the 3-4’ and 25-30lb tarpon out of the water ... the fly snapped, and that one<br /> got away. Rob as a snorkeling guide was absolutely phenomenal – always keeping an eye<br /> on us and directing us to the best sights. Ask him about the night snorkeling trip and how<br /> that works! What else about Rob? Think mixologist, Ninja table setter extraordinaire, DJ,<br /> dishwasher, pillow arranger, waiter – the list goes on. <br /> <br /> Truly, B and Rob were all about our experience. The Mystic is a beautiful boat - very<br /> comfortable and fully equipped with everything you would need. Private sailing, crystal blue waters, snorkeling with turtles, and stingrays, and wonderful conversation with my favorite people, what could make it better? I'll tell you what could make it better, "B!!!" Belinda took this vacation to another level. Each meal was part of the adventure. Exquisite in flavor, and designed to our tastes, she made exception after exception in making exceptional cuisine, and plated it like it was the art that it was. Rob was an amazing captain, who brought so much security and comfort to the group knowing that we were in such capable hands. If you are lucky enough to get them to lead your charter, get him to tell you his adventure stories of years of sailing around the world and his famous experience at Everest base camp. Well worth the investment to spend time with not only amazingly talented people in their own rights, but such wonderful people. I can't wait to do another adventure with them!<br /> <br /> We recently returned from a sailing trip with Rob and Belinda on the Mystic. This was our first sailing trip. It could not have been better. Belinda prepared amazing meals for us. We had a former chef in our group and even he was amazed and what Belinda came up with in a small boat kitchen. Rob was terrific. He was always happy to take us where we wanted to go. He had very interesting stories about his life on the sea and other places. It would be hard to imagine a better crew. The boat was also very well appointed. We hope to do another sailing trip in the future and would pretty much find where Rob and Belinda are going and then go with them.<br /> <br /> There are experiences, and there are experiences! We had the time of our lives with Rob and Belinda. I struggle to imagine anyone performing better than they did. Rob was the consummate professional, always supporting any activity we wanted to do. Belinda created meals and eating experiences that were amazing. I still struggle to understand how she pulled it off from a tiny galley. This couple/crew are hospitable, knowledgeable, charming, warm, and funny with a great sense of humour. They complement each other so well as 1st mate and sous chef! They provided tips on and gave historical and nice to know facts of the islands we visited. By the time our charter ended I felt we were one happy family.<br /> <br /> Captain Rob navigated the Mystic with skill and finesse, in and out of marinas and bays like he was eating a piece of his wife’s delicious cake. He ensured our safety on board and in the water. I personally have balance/mobility issues, and he made sure I could confidently access all areas of the Mystic. He and Belinda both used the hydraulic swim platform so I could safely enter and exit the water. He even snorkelled one on one with me so I wouldn’t miss out on that experience. <br /> <br /> Chef Belinda…I can’t say enough about her culinary skills. Her meals were delicious, flavourful and the presentation/plating were indescribably beautiful. Without missing a beat, she was able to adapt her widely varied menus to meet the dietary requirements of all guests. I can’t thank her enough for the lengths she went to decorate the salon and provide a delectable cake for a surprise birthday celebration for 2 guests on the last night of our charter. <br /> <br /> I can say without hesitation, were it not for the crew of Rob and Belinda Bentley on the Mystic 5.4, this sailing adventure would not have been the experience of a lifetime it was. <br /> <br /> Merci infiniment, muchas gracious, gracie mille……I can’t say thank you to Rob and Belinda too many times or in too many ways….you’re The Best!!!<br /> <br /> Valarie <br /> Mystic: 7/15-7/22/2023<br /> <br /> ";s:10:"yachtGC5P1";s:0:"";s:10:"yachtGC5P2";s:0:"";s:10:"yachtGC5P3";s:0:"";s:13:"yachtGC6Title";s:9:"July 2023";s:8:"yachtGC6";s:2379:"What a great adventure! To have such a wonderful and new experience with family made us feel very blessed, and it was topped off with such a fantastic crew of Captain Rob and Chef/First Mate Belinda Bentley on the Mystic 5.4 catamaran. Not only was the catamaran absolutely stunning and accommodating, but the Bentleys also ensured we enjoyed every minute of it!<br /> Captain Rob is an experienced professional, all the while being polite, personable, and dedicated to not only the boat but also the guests. He shared his extensive knowledge of manoeuvring the boat, the sail functions (when and how to use them), and the complex navigation system with the guests interested in the operation of the catamaran.<br /> <br /> Chef Belinda was meticulous in every meal’s preparation and presentation. Every meal was made with love and care while considering the guests’ specific dietary needs. Her incorporation of exotic, local flavours and spices elevated the meals even more! Not only did she prepare three meals a day, but she also provided a snack between meals. Never to disappoint the guests’ tastebuds! Her food is worthy of a James Beard Foundation Award! <br /> <br /> Together Rob and Belinda took excellent care of the guests and the luxurious catamaran. While traveling to various islands, Rob and Belinda briefly described the island’s intriguing history, where the best places to swim/snorkel are, and the attractions, restaurants, and shopping available. Both made sure the guests knew water safety and the use of the equipment provided to ensure the guests had the best experience in the beautiful Caribbean seas. Captain Rob even led a group snorkelling and showed the best place to view the magnificence of the creatures in the water. While guests were off the boat or lounged on one of the decks, Chef Belinda was guaranteed to be in the kitchen preparing the next meal, snack, and dessert.<br /> <br /> They work so well with each other and interact with the guests delightfully and sincerely. Captain Rob and Chef Belinda truly felt like family by the end of the adventure! No words can express how grateful we feel to have been with the Bentleys on our vacation. She is particularly fond of Asian cuisine, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam, but also enjoys spicy Mexican, Indian and Mediterranean influences.<br /> <br /> She loves to cook fish and seafood and pair it with local, fresh, seasonal ingredients. She enjoys bright and bold flavours, especially citrus notes which do well to compliment the Caribbean climate. Delicious cool and creamy desserts round off dinner and ensure full and satisfied guests!<br /> <br /> Waking up to fresh morning coffee and watching the sun set with drinks and appetizers are the absolute essence of life aboard and she can’t wait to welcome you! </p></div> </div> </div> </div>
