Centerboard advantages, navigate shallow water.
From the turquoise waters of the Bahamas to the Alaskan ice fields, a lifting keel gives you the peace of mind to navigate in shallow water.
The centerboard doesn’t sacrifice performance or safety, in fact, it can enhance performance when it comes to downwind sailing.
Another advantage of a centerboard is the expanded possibilities to find docking in marinas that would otherwise be too shallow for a fixed keel sailboat.
Without the limitations of fixed keel boats, your cruising opportunities can take you through the maze of Europe’s ancient canals and the historic North American waterways.
The centerboard can be lifted manually or by using a hydraulic system.

Aluminium sailboats
Aluminum offers an excellent safety / longevity / price / performance ratio. These qualities make it the favorite material of many long trips sailors. The boat holding the world record for the single-handed world tour “the wrong way”, (against the prevailing winds and currents) is an aluminum monohull which finished in 2004 the itinerary Ouessant / Antarctic / Ouessant in 122 days 14 hours 3 minutes and 49 seconds skipped by Jean-Luc Van den Heede. In 1991 the current (and only!) owner provided the perimeters to the well known design office "Van de Stadt Design". These were as clear as ambitious, a strong, fast, close to the wind sailing yacht with variable draft and plenty of deckspace, especially in the cockpit area. "Cees van Tongeren" from the design office Van de Stadt design, did indeed a wonderful job, being responsible for the drawings of the "HEIDENSKIP" 65 ft. As the shipyard ALUBOOT from the small town of Hindeloopen in Holland had been the owners favorite builder for many years the contract was given to this yard which is also known for building immensely strong and fast lifeboats. Now after many satisfying miles of sailing, the experienced owner decided to build a larger boat in the same concept and to sell his captain maintained and continiuously upgraded and well cared for "HEIDENSKIP" 65 ft lifting keel aluminium performance sailingyacht. This is your chance to purchase an easy handling and safe "go anywhere globetrotter" well below the replacement cost! Commissioned in 1992 this is a very desirable sailing yacht of great strength and grace. Once you have sailed her we are sure that this boat will live up to your expectations in every way. "Heidenskip" is the ideal boat for the couple that is looking for a yacht ready to go anywhere and still be able to go on anchor in the shallows of the carribean.

Parsifal III: Meet the charter star of Below Deck's sailing yacht spin-offThis week, producers have confirmed season five of hit reality TV show Below Deck Sailing Yacht will return to screens on 7 October for more crew drama and on-the-water antics. Set on the Balearic island of Ibiza, the series will again feature the 54-metre Perini Navi superyacht Parsifal III with Captain Glenn Shephard at the helm. In anticipation of the series' return, BOAT reflects on an interview with her owner Kim Vibe-Petersen , who unpacked the realities of filming a reality TV series on board his boat ahead of season three. Below Deck Sailing Yacht is a spin-off series of the hit superyacht reality TV show Below Deck that follows the lives of the crew and guests across an eight-week charter season. For Danish owner Kim Vibe-Petersen, Parsifal III' s return is yet another opportunity to show off the yacht's charter credentials. Vibe-Petersen was personally approached by Below Deck producers in 2018 after they struggled to find a suitable sailing yacht. Parsifal III fitted the bill as she was already equipped for charter and a number of her existing crew were willing to take part in the show. The Perini Navi sailing yacht first hit the water in 2005 and rose to instant fame scoring a number of prestigious accolades including a coveted Neptune at the World Superyacht Awards . On her launch, she also joined the ranks as one of the fast Perini Navi superyachts on the water with a top speed of 18 knots under full sail granted by two high-tech carbon masts, automated in-boom furling and a winged keel. Vibe-Petersen admitted there were some yacht owners who didn’t want the names of their yachts connected with the drama-filled reality show, but he "didn’t have that concern." Although he had the option to change the yacht’s name for filming, he decided to keep it to maximise the charter appeal of Parsifal III . "It’s free advertising," he said. "The name of the yacht will come to people’s minds, especially to someone who has never chartered a yacht before. They will see that name and know the boat from the show." Vibe-Petersen was also keen to secure a guaranteed packed charter schedule during low season. "I think there were a lot of boats that did not want to be chartered for the show but it's good money in the bank," he said. While admitting he might not be the "specific audience targeted by the series," he said he has sat down to watch the first series, which took place in Corfu. Even in Vibe-Peterson’s home country of Denmark, the US show has gained a big following. "This is the kind of show where they want to make a little drama," he added. "It’s not that wild on board a normal charter." The conveyor belt of colourful guests are chosen by the production team and given a "big discount" for appearing on the show. Vibe-Petersen also explained the complicated logistics of filming Below Deck , each season of which features 16 charters filmed across a period of eight weeks. This means that two groups of guests separately charter the yacht in a single week. Meanwhile, the production team require a time period of at least a week to get Parsifal III rigged up and fit for filming. "There are 30 people on board each day with lots of wires and cameras – it’s a big, big operation." Season one was filmed in Corfu, Greece, which posed a number of challenges for Parsifal III as the sailing yacht was required to have a specific charter licence. "It’s pretty tough to get that," said Vibe-Petersen. "It’s not something we can do within a short amount of time. It can take 10 to 12 weeks to get a charter licence so it takes time." For her second season, Parsifal III was filmed cruising Croatia's 3,600 miles of coastline. For season three, the show follows Parsifal III as she cruises around the Spanish island of Menorca, carrying a mix of new and old crew. Season five of Below Deck Sailing Yacht will feature returning department heads chief stew Daisy Kelliher and first mate Gary King, while chef Cloyce Martin, chief engineer Davide Morosi, stews Diana Cruz and Danni Warren, and deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch are amongst the new crew members. Parsifal III is managed for charter by Camper & Nicholsons with a weekly charter rate starting from €245,000. Introducing the Exciting New Planing Cruiser, the First 30This innovative model promises to give all sailors the thrill of planing while delivering top-level performance. Updating a LegacyThe First 30 follows in the footsteps of the popular model launched in 1977 , which shaped the history of BENETEAU. The brand worked with Seascape for this new version, assembling a team of world-class designers and engineers: Samuel Manuard for the naval architecture and Lorenzo Argento for the design. This bold new project demonstrates BENETEAU’s commitment to innovation and is particularly meaningful as the brand celebrates its 140th anniversary . Performance and Comfort: Safe, Smooth SailingThe First 30 is 10.33 metres long and has a displacement of 3,150 kg, meaning that even small crews can enjoy quick easy planing . Planing is that magical moment when, at full speed, your yacht’s hull lifts and is in limited contact with the water, minimising friction and creating a smooth, gliding sensation. You feel the thrill of the boat accelerating, and every manoeuvre is smoother and more responsive. It is this adrenalin rush that promises unique unforgettable moments at sea! A clear cockpit and simple rigging make navigation fun and intuitive, even at high speeds. Additional options for racers optimise performance. Designed for effortless sailing, the First 30 is perfect for cruising and for racing. By choosing the layout – cruising or racing – it can be perfectly matched to the needs of each skipper. The cruising version features large winches and ergonomic controls to simplify handling, while the racing version includes a mainsail traveller for more accurate trimming. A Practical, User-Friendly Interior for Worry-Free CruisingBelow deck, the boat has a capacity of 4 people divided between two cabins. The First 30 is the perfect boat for cruising with family or friends. Cruising is truly enjoyable, with a comfortable saloon, fully-fitted galley and smart storage spaces. With the Premium Pack option, you have additional features and the interior is more stylish with top-quality upholstery, extra lounge backrests, a chopping board, choice of colours and materials, and mood lighting. With the new First 30 , BENETEAU once again proves its ability to push back the boundaries of innovation while remaining true to its heritage. Designed to become a true benchmark, the First 30 will make its world premiere at the Düsseldorf 2025 boat show. Sign up now for our newsletter, so you do not miss out on the upcoming launch. ‘If someone had offered me a third of the asking price to buy the boat back, I would have bitten their hand off’ – Monty Halls
New owner Monty Halls tests his sailing skills with his family aboard their Colvic 34 ketch Sobek. A recently qualified Day Skipper, Monty faces a few unexpected challenges I sat back on the saloon roof, leaned against the mast, sipped my beer, and revelled in the moment. Here I was, at long last, perched on my very own vessel – a 34ft ketch named Sobek. It marked the end of a long aspirational journey, the culmination of a dearly held dream, and I couldn’t believe that it had come to fruition. Monty Halls, yachtsman. Monty Halls, skipper. Monty Halls, flinty eyed explorer who will ride the wind towards a curved blue horizon. In short, this was going to be great. Fast forward 24 hours, and I’m trying to manoeuvre the same yacht out of the marina so I can get it home. Problem was, Sobek seemed rather reluctant to leave, and for some reason that my (up to that point) powerboat experience couldn’t fathom, kept pointing her bow in the wrong direction. ‘Wrong’ in this case being towards lots of other yachts in the marina, to whom she had plainly become very attached and wanted to kiss goodbye. This being a Sunday afternoon, said yachts had people on board, who were popping up in their cockpits like meerkats, occasionally offering a few words of advice but mainly just looking at me. And, unequivocally, judging me. They were all, in my eyes, rime-encrusted veterans of numerous circumnavigations, and they knew I was an imposter in their midst. Sobek anchored off Valley Beach in South Devon. Note rubber rings on saloon roof, detracting from Monty’s attempts to appear like a rugged mariner. Photo: Monty Halls There was a certain amount of frantic see-sawing of the throttle, with me bellowing ‘Sorry!’ as my bowsprit scythed inches away from their ashen- faced loved ones. Fortunately I had a mate on board (now bitterly regretting it), who, as a former commando, was running around offering himself as a large, fleshy fender to avoid scratching gleaming gel coats and collecting guardrails. And then – miraculously – we were out of the entrance and into the open sea. One of the folks in the marina even called after me to wish me luck on my travels. I didn’t catch all of what he said, but the last word was definitely ‘….off’. If someone had, at that precise moment, offered me a third of the asking price to buy the boat back, I would have bitten their hand off. And that brings me to the subject of this, my first column for YM. I’m a new skipper, albeit one who now has a bit more experience than the pinball wizard who terrorised Plymouth Yacht Haven last year, and I think there’s an uncomfortable truth that needs to be acknowledged about buying a boat for the first time. Or truths, to be more accurate. Article continues below… Monty Halls on the trials and tribulations of sailingNow, before you horny-palmed ocean conquerors give a rum-laden snort of derision, I’ve just emerged triumphant from my Day Skipper… Imposter syndromeFirst, they’re large, controlled by an engine that’d just about run a sewing machine, are subject to some interesting laws of physics, and operate on a big, wobbly, slippery, moveable conveyor belt that also does its own thing. That’s quite a lot to take in. Second, there’s several bits of string that all have weird names. And most other things on board have weird names as well. It is, without doubt, a discombobulating, alien world. Third, literally everyone else on earth who owns a yacht is better than you, knows more than you, has drunk their own urine whilst becalmed in the doldrums, and can tell on sight that you’re a muppet. In short, the psychology of new boat ownership is one of mild neurosis and skewed perceptions. Owning a boat has been a baptism of fire for Monty and his family. Photo: Monty Halls Eighteen months of experience has actually shown me the reality is, of course, that everyone has been where you are, and will leap to your assistance given half a chance. Just last week a septuagenarian lady sprinted 50 metres to take one of my lines, digging her heels in as Sobek threatened to break free and head back to Plymouth from our mooring in Dartmouth. She took a turn round a cleat, gripped the line with corded forearms, and smiled at me reassuringly in a kind of ‘Take it easy big fella, I’ve got this’ manner. How lovely. It’s also turned out to be one of the most rewarding physical and mental challenges of my life. It’s ironic that something so simply powered by the elements involves so many moving parts – the tide, the angle of the wind, planning, the direction of the swell, and the competence of the crew. And on that very subject, it’s been the ultimate team-building experience for my family. In fact, I’d get my wife Tam to write something on the subject, but she’s in town right now and has been gone for ages. Something about seeing a lawyer… The other, final point, is that this is a never-ending journey. I’m better than I was, but a very long way from being the sailor and skipper I hope to become. And that will be the subject of the columns to come. I do hope you’ll join me on the journey. If anyone has ever asked if it was possible to create a UFO-looking jet boat , craftsman Tran Long Ho has proven it to be more than possible when he produced his very own motorized flying saucer. Built from scratch, and with his own team as seen in the video, the UFO jet boat captures the design of the mysterious flying object—only now it’s right before the viewers’ eyes, so it may no longer be a mystery (except for what’s hidden in the cabin). Motorized flying saucer with wooden partsMr. Tran Long Ho starts building his UFO jet boat using an earthy, sand-textured material and pours cement to harden it. In the video documenting his design process, he and the team mold it to follow the flying saucer’s shape before coating it with purple paint. The steel frame comes next, put together to hold the watercraft’s body in place. Next, the craftsman produces hexagon cutouts from thin slabs of wood and plasters them on the frame as a form of insulation in the cabin. The first layer of coating comes next, and they all wait for it to dry before applying the motors that get the jet boat going. Solar-panel-like plates for the hexagon designsWhen the base is all covered, Mr. Tran Long Ho cuts hexagon shapes around the surface of the UFO jet boat’s top covering. As he shows in the video that documents the making of his motorized flying saucer, a series of solar-panel-like plates mask these holes, staying true to typical UFO depictions. The engine sits in the heart of the watercraft, hidden just below the driver’s seat. This is why the Vietnamese craftsman built the lower body of the jet boat with a hollow, oval shape. First, it’s how a UFO might look, and second, it functions as the housing for the motors. These motors may not work without switches, which come next in the making of the jet boat. For the wiring, Mr. Tran Long Ho hides them behind the fuzzy material that tops the angles and corners of the hexagon cutouts. It’s a smart move to make the interior as wire-free as possible. When it comes to cruising inside the jet boat, the pilot might need to recline as much as they can because of the limited overhead space. That means they have to stretch their arms and reach for the steering wheel, just like the craftsman testing his watercraft on a river. That may not be an inconvenience at all, not when once they’ve revved up the engine, they can zoom through the water, speeding away as fast as a jet ski with occasional hops for a thrilling ride. the making of the UFO jet boat Mr. Tran Long Ho documents his process on his Youtube channel project info: design: Tran Long Ho | @Mr_Ho channel: Mr Ho Tranh Che watercraft (77)Product library. a diverse digital database that acts as a valuable guide in gaining insight and information about a product directly from the manufacturer, and serves as a rich reference point in developing a project or scheme.
