The global boat-building market is expected to reach over $47 billion in 2027, at a CAGR of 7.5%, and the increasing demand for recreational boats in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is a significant factor driving growth. Brands in Dubai are responding with their latest designs and innovations, and local manufacturers and suppliers exhibited their latest innovations at the event. Sustainable SolutionsAl Rubban Marine, IMG Boats, Invincible Boats, Ocean Boats, Gulf Craft and Victory Yachts are among the prominent exhibitors that showcased their latest creations at the five-day event, with a focus on incorporating sustainable solutions. As the global movement towards environmental sustainability continues to reshape the maritime sector and the future of yacht architecture, yacht owners and clients are increasingly interested in innovative technologies that can create a greener yacht. Manufacturers such as Gulf Craft are responding to this demand by integrating sustainable solutions into their builds. Abeer Al Shaali, Deputy Managing Director of Gulf Craft, said: “At Gulf Craft, we understand that clients prioritise sustainability and durability, and we are committed to supporting the path towards a sustainable future. We are committed to making our yachts more efficient, lightweight, and practical, always with the user’s perspective in mind. Our latest yacht, the Majesty 111, showcases the latest trends in boat building, bringing the outside inside and creating a natural flow from exterior to interior. We believe that by incorporating nature and light into our designs, we are creating a truly unique and luxurious experience for our clients.” With brands from 60 countries featured at the show, local manufacturers and distributors exhibiting reported increased business from a diverse range of international markets. Paurush Farouk.H, Sales Manager, IMG Boats commented that there is a strong market for Middle Eastern products outside the region: “In previous years, we primarily had interest from across the region, but this year we are receiving more serious leads from international markets, particularly Eastern Europe, and Australia,” he said. Customisation is keyBrands also reported that customisation and personalisation are high on the list of customer demands this year, as buyers are keen to reflect their personality through their purchases. Shahid Ahmed Jiwrak, Sales Manager, Ocean Boats, said: “We observed that visitors were very impressed by the options for customisation that Ocean Boats offer. This is very important because customers today want highly personalised products. These can range from walk-around cabins, forward or backwards-facing seats, centre consoles, a roof on the top of the steering wheel, and even bathrooms on board the vessel. As designers, we listen to all these preferences and incorporate them in the final boat design in the most innovative way possible, so that the customer gets a boat that suits their specific needs.” Proud legacyDubai International Boat Show brought together the latest innovations from a range of the industry’s verticals. Historically playing a key role in the UAE’s maritime sector, the country’s Fish and Seafood Market has witnessed significant growth and development in recent years. Local fishing equipment companies brought the latest advancements in rods, lures, tackles and other fishing gear to the show, and Taha Darwish, Sales & Marketing Manager, Helal Trading, wholesale distributor of Okuma throughout the Middle East said that they observed a lot of interest from regional and international retailers for next-generation reels and drags that can handle larger fish. “New equipment is lighter than before, making it easier to catch big fish like tuna which can go up to 100kg. It was our first time exhibiting at the Dubai International Boat Show, and we had many requests for these and other equipment,” he said. For local boat manufacturers and equipment suppliers that exhibited at Dubai International Boat Show 2023, the event played an essential role in providing a platform for the industry to present its excellence to the international market. Its almost 30-year legacy can be credited with attracting yacht companies to move their headquarters to the UAE or have permanent offices here, added Abdulaziz AlMeraikhi, Owner & Founder of Ultra Marine, a distributor of Invincible Boats. As the Dubai International Boat Show annually continues to champion the UAE’s position as a top destination for marine enthusiasts and professionals, the show undoubtedly remains the premier venue for local players to display and celebrate their innovations and advancements. The emirate is fast becoming a popular sailing destination among those looking to soak up some winter sun. Dubai has become a magnet for global yacht tourism, particularly during the winter season from October to April. Winter is the best time to visit Dubai, when the weather’s just right for lazy days on the beach and outdoor fun. From October to April, the warm temperatures and calm waters in the region make yachting a breeze, promising a smooth and enjoyable journey. Dubai is rapidly emerging as a top winter yachting destination for enthusiasts who would typically favor the Caribbean or South America. They can now explore the Gulf region safely from one of the world’s most glamorous cities. “Dubai’s strategic location, world-class infrastructure, advanced facilities, luxury marinas, award-winning tourism offerings, rich maritime history and picturesque coastline, combined with its popular winter-sun season, have positioned the city as an attractive destination for yacht owners,” says Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, part of Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism. Vibrant Events CalendarDubai’s jam-packed calendar of events is another major draw for visitors. The city hosts a wide range of business, leisure and MICE events all year round, but winter is when it truly comes alive with a multitude of action-packed activities, from golf and rugby tournaments to tennis championships and horse racing . Dubai plays host to many international events, including the Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix, part of the SailSP competition series. The Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix , part of the SailGP competition series, will take place on November 23 and 24, showcasing a fleet of high-performance F50 foiling catamarans battling it out on the iconic Mina Rashid. Meanwhile, the annual Gulf Superyacht Summit , taking place this December, and the Dubai International Boat Show , scheduled for February 2025, both highlight Dubai’s burgeoning yachting industry. These events showcase the latest in yacht design and technology, attracting enthusiasts, manufacturers and experts from around the world. Other significant events like the annual Dubai Watch Week , Dubai Fashion Week and Art Dubai have further elevated Dubai’s position as a global city with a vibrant creative and cultural spirit. Those looking to ring in the new year on a grand scale will not be disappointed. New Year’s celebrations in Dubai are truly epic. Party it up at the trendiest beach clubs, enjoy star-studded performances by international artists or catch the iconic fireworks at Burj Khalifa and various locations along the coast. Dining And WellnessBeyond offering state-of-the-art maintenance and repair facilities, Dubai’s luxury marinas boast stunning waterfront dining options and wellness amenities for the well-heeled crowd. These offerings complement Dubai’s multifaceted appeal among yachting enthusiasts seeking a holistic maritime experience. Kazim says, “We see strong potential for the ‘cruise in, dock and dine’ concept, which allows yacht owners to dock their vessels and enjoy some of Dubai’s world-class waterfront dining options. Another emerging trend is the integration of luxury wellness amenities within Dubai’s marinas, with many featuring health and wellness centers, while owners are also taking advantage of the opportunity to experience world-class sporting, entertainment and business events in the city.” There is a variety of dock and dine options dotted along Dubai’s dazzling coastline that yacht owners and their guests can choose from, including venues set against spectacular backdrops of the city skyline and the Arabian Gulf. For instance, the Bulgari Marina at Bulgari Resort Dubai offers exclusive dock and dine services, including free berthing for four hours for guests. Pick from the one-Michelin-star omakase restaurant Hōseki or the two-Michelin-star Il Ristorante – Niko Romito for perfectly executed Italian cuisine. At The Club , located at Palm West Beach, yachts can dock at the beach and visitors can directly disembark there to enjoy the waterfront dining experience at one of its signature restaurants and beach clubs. Those looking for a relaxing time can unwind at the ultra-luxe Guerlain Spa, located within The One&Only The Palm , with its very own private marina for visitors. Indulge in a pampering massage or a traditional hammam ritual designed to restore, renew and revitalize. Luxury Stays And EntertainmentLuxury hotels and resorts in Dubai offer yachting tourists top-tier accommodations. Strategically located near marinas, these properties offer breathtaking ocean views and convenient access to the waterfront. Many also feature specialized yacht concierge services, including help with bookings, provisioning, and arranging both sea and land activities to enhance guests’ extended itineraries. Dubai boasts world-class attractions, such as the Museum of the Future, one of the city's most famous landmarks. For some heritage and culture, visit the Al Shindagha Museum , located along Dubai Creek. Sign up for curated tours to gain an insight into Dubai’s past and traditions. The Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Centre for Cultural Understanding gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the culture and customs of Dubai and the Emirati people while the Museum of the Future , one of the city’s most famous landmarks, explores next-generation science, technology and innovation. Looking for sun-kissed days on the beach? Jumeirah 1 , a revitalized destination, features three beach clubs and 10 beachfront restaurants, making it the perfect all-day R&R spot. Seamless Entry And ConnectivityAs a premier yachting destination, Dubai offers limitless opportunities for visitors looking to explore the U.A.E.’s stunning coastline and neighboring spots in the region. Visitors on foreign-flagged yachts can expect a seamless arrival experience, capitalizing on Dubai’s modern and advanced facilities. Foreign vessels are allowed to stay in Dubai waters for up to six months. “Strong international air connectivity through both commercial and private aviation makes Dubai ideal for owners looking to arrive or depart separately to their yachts,” says Kazim. “Dubai’s reputation for safety further enhances its appeal to yacht owners and businesses, along with initiatives like the Golden Visa for investors, which align with the objective to make Dubai the best city to visit, live and work in.” With plans underway to further expand its yachting infrastructure and offerings, Dubai is set to strengthen its position as the preferred winter yachting destination and gateway to the Gulf region. - Editorial Standards
