The Hunter 430 is a light sailboat which is a reasonably good performer. It is reasonably stable / stiff and has a good righting capability if capsized. It is best suited as a coastal cruiser. The fuel capacity is average. There is a good water supply range.

Hunter 430 - things to know and look for before purchase, design interior?

Anyone familiar with the 430 that was built until until the year 2000? It has a different cabin set up, and looks appealing, but wondered if anyone who has owned or visited one under sail, found the layout to be open or confining? The galley, easy to get around or a block to the forward berth? Is the table seating easy or difficult to get in and out of? What are must haves on this boat? What are the issues to look for? Areas that leak, plumbing issues, sailing performance, engine issues, instruments to make note of, battens in sail rather than furling,etc. thanks again as always for your advice.  

I am in the bahamas with mine right now....it sails really well and the 5 foot draft is great...there really is not much one could change...because everything is molded and plastic, everyone of your questions are personal preferance or any issues can be fixed.....the layout works well for us and guests, the seating part has proven to be of great value when you have 10 people over....the only thing I am disapionted with is its size...I wish it was 55 feet...give me this exact boat bigger and wider

The Hunter 430 is a recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass. It has a fractional sloop B&R rig, a raked stem, a walk-through reverse transom with a swimming platform and a folding ladder, an internally mounted spade-type rudder controlled by a wheel and a fixed wing keel. It displaces 23,800 lb (10,795 kg) and carries 7,600 lb (3,447 kg) of ballast. The boat has a draft of 4.92 ft (1.50 m) with the standard wing keel fitted.

The boat is fitted with a Japanese Yanmar 4JH2E diesel engine of 50 hp (37 kW). The fuel tank holds 50 U.S. gallons (190 L; 42 imp gal) and the fresh water tank has a capacity of 180 U.S. gallons (680 L; 150 imp gal). There are also two 25 U.S. gallons (95 L; 21 imp gal) waster water holding tanks.

Factory standard equipment included a 110% roller furling genoa, a fiberglass mainsheet arch, three two-speed self tailing winches, marine VHF radio, knotmeter, depth sounder, AM/FM radio and CD player with eight speakers, dual anchor rollers, hot and cold water cockpit shower, two fully enclosed heads with showers, private forward and aft cabins, a dinette table that converts to a berth, microwave oven, refrigerator and separate freezer, dual stainless steel sinks and a three-burner gimbaled propane stove and oven. Factory options included a mainsheet traveler, a double aft cabin, air conditioning, mast furling mainsail, electric anchor winch and a leather interior.

The design has a PHRF racing average handicap of 99 with a high of 111 and low of 96. It has a hull speed of 8.26 kn (15.30 km/h).

Hunter is a popular American shipyard, whose main activity is the creation of luxury cruise sailing yachts .

Created 40 years ago in the state of Florida in the USA, this brand is still on the wave of success, at least within the North American continent. Innovations in design and constructions, continuous improvement and maximum reliability made Hunter yachts quite popular in the world of sailing, and so much so that even in Europe (in England) its branch appeared, where all the same technologies are used in production as on the main shipyards in Florida. The creators of comfortable and practical Hunter sailing yachts have successfully borrowed many technological aspects from the automotive industry, and it is not for nothing that boats of this brand are often called “cadillacs in the open sea”. Such technologies make it easy to release up to 50 models every month on water. The decrease in manual work in the decoration of yachts allowed them to reduce prices. Computer technology is used both in the design of models, and to create directly boat parts. Although it can be said that Hunter yacht production is put on a conveyor belt, their quality and reliability always remain in the first place.

I have a Hunter 170. The rudder bracket failed and came loose from the attachment structure. What are your recommendations for repairing this significant problem? How best to reinforce the assembly and fastening to the hull structure? Thanks for your advice.
