Guide to the Rolex GMT-Master II Batman

The Watch Club by SwissWatchExpo

The Rolex GMT-Master II Batman is one of the most well-loved sports watches, not just within the Rolex catalog, but in the watch industry. The Oystersteel construction and now iconic black and blue ceramic bezel proved to be versatile and enduring – and with recent upgrades, it garnered even more appreciation within the watch community.

Let’s take a closer look at the history of the Rolex Batman, and the different editions available. <> <>

Introducing the Rolex Batman

The split-color bezel of the Rolex GMT-Master series has been its signature trait since it launched in 1954. Created to aid pilots, the GMT-Master’s bezel helps indicate a second timezone and daytime and nighttime hours through its bi-colored bezel.

The famous bezel has been crafted in Bakelite and anodized aluminum since then, and with the introduction of the Cerachrom ceramic insert in 2005, it was inevitable for the GMT-Master II to follow. However, Rolex admitted that it would be challenging to use a single Cerachrom block for their bi-colored bezel. For the next eight years, Rolex worked on perfecting the method of using a single piece of Cerachrom with two different but crisp colors.

In 2013, Rolex was finally ready to introduce it to the public, and it came in the form of reference 116710 BLNR – now known as the Rolex Batman .

It sent the watch world abuzz. Not only was it the first ceramic bezel watch to be made in clean, two-tone colorway, it also came in a handsome black and blue combination. At the time, it was also the only bi-color GMT-Master II model available in stainless steel. The guests at Baselworld 2013 knew that Rolex had just launched a classic.

What’s in name?

Rolex watches are famous for having nicknames, and anyone who’s into watches would certainly know what a Pepsi, Root Beer, or Kermit is. While none of these are in the official Rolex literature, they are used fondly by collectors and they certainly make it easier to discuss watches.

The “BLNR” in the Batman’s official name is a suffix for bleu / noir or blue / black in English . Rolex uses suffixes for their watches in order to help identify the watch from its name alone. These come from French words because as a Geneva-based company, it is the official language of Rolex.

It’s also these bold colors that gave it it’s “Batman” nickname. Batman, of course, is a DC Comics superhero who is famous for being vigilante by night. The Rolex Batman is also sometimes called “Bruiser” or “The Dark Knight” by some fans as a homage to the character.

Now let’s go to the different generations of Rolex Batman watches that have been released, and what they each offer.

First Edition: Rolex GMT-Master II Batman 116710 BLNR (2013 – 2018)

The original Rolex Batman 116710BLNR is most easily distinguished by its blue-black bezel, but it has other defining elements.

It follows the modern GMT-Master II 116710 introduced in 2007, which equipped the watches with features like the then new Caliber 3186 movement with a smoother operating hand, 50-hour power reserve, instant date and COSC certification. The watches still measure 40mm, and have 100m water resistance like previous GMT-Master II models, but it’s improved Triplock screw-down crown offers a more robust shield versus water damage and dust.

Rolex GMT-Master II Batman 116710BLNR

It also featured a “Maxi Dial” with larger hands and markers than the aluminum bezel editions. The Rolex Batman had the distinction of featuring a blue GMT hand, while other GMT-Master II models had a red hand.

Finally, the Rolex Batman came with a three-link Oyster bracelet with satin outer links and polished center links. The Oyster completes the sporty, ruggedly handsome look of the Batman.

The original Rolex Batman 116710BLNR had a short but remarkable five-year run, and in 2019 Rolex decided that it was time for an upgrade.

Second Edition: Rolex GMT-Master II Batman 126710 BLNR Jubilee ( 2019 – present)

In 2018, Rolex re-introduced the Jubilee bracelet to the GMT-Master II line with the reference 126710BLRO Pepsi. It marked the first appearance of the Jubilee in the collection since the 1980s. A five-link Oystersteel Jubilee bracelet was especially designed for this generation of GMT-Master II watches, complete with an Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening.

Fans suspected that the Rolex Batman might soon follow, and they were proven correct in 2019. The original ref 116710BLNR was discontinued to make way for the current edition, the ref 126710BLNR. The most obvious change is the Jubilee bracelet which gives the Batman a dressier feel.

A bevy of Rolex Batman and Rolex Pepsi watches

The Rolex Batman Jubilee Bracelet edition also comes with a more svelte profile on the wrist. While the case diameter remains 40mm, the lugs were made thinner and less angled, to make way for a more fluid appearance.

Beyond these aesthetic changes, the most remarkable improvement is the new Caliber 3285 movement that powers the timepiece. Equipped with the brand’s proprietary Chronergy escapement, the Caliber 3285 conforms to the brand’s Superlative Chronometer accuracy standard of just -/+ 2 seconds per day, and offers an improved power reserve of 70 hours.

While the ref 126710BLNR was well-loved, many fans of the original Rolex Batman also voiced out their preference for the Oyster bracelet. It is said that the sporty look of the Batman is best enhanced with the robust three-link design.

Third Edition: Rolex GMT-Master II Batman 126710 BLNR Oyster ( 2021 – present)

In 2021, Rolex silently brought back the Oyster bracelet to the current editions of the Rolex GMT-Master Pepsi and Batman. Since its hiatus in 2018, the classic three-link stainless steel bracelet was added as an option along with the Jubilee bracelet.

This also means that for the first time ever, the Rolex Batman comes with both the Oyster bracelet and the new generation Caliber 3285 beating inside. All in all, it brings together the iconic aesthetic of the original Rolex Batman with fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, and resistance to shocks.

<> Rolex Batman vs Rolex Batgirl

When examining the Rolex GMT-Master II models colloquially known as the “Batman” and the “Batgirl,” you’ll find an intriguing comparison of two luxury timepieces that, while similar at a glance, reveal certain distinctions.

Each model is named affectionately after iconic DC characters for their distinctive black and blue bezels and their iconic GMT function with the arrow-tipped hand. Both watches are protected by 904L Oystersteel and a sapphire crystal. Similar looks and similar appeal when the largest differences are around the wrist and under the hood. Don’t let the name “Batgirl” fool you, both watches are perfect for men or women. <>

Rolex GMT-Master II Batgirl 126710 vs Batman 116710

Case Profile

The Rolex GMT-Master II series has seen various case designs over the years, each subtly tweaked to fit the brand’s evolving aesthetic and ergonomic standards. The Batman and Batgirl models, while both featuring a 40mm Oystersteel case, encapsulate these design philosophies through their execution of the case profile.

The Batman ref 116710, with its “Super Case,” is noted for its more pronounced, angular lugs and a generally more robust presence on the wrist. This design choice aligns with Rolex’s trend towards making watches that, while not larger in diameter, appear more substantial due to the broader lugs and case sides.

Conversely, the Batgirl ref 126710 introduced a return to more traditional Rolex proportions, with tapered lugs that slenderize the case profile, making it appear less bulky and more in line with the classic Rolex silhouette. This change reflects a subtlety in design evolution, offering an alternative for those who prefer a sleeker aesthetic without compromising on the iconic 40mm size.

It’s important to note that the Oyster bracelet was reintroduced with the new Batman ref 126710 in 2021, so fans can enjoy both the tapered case profile with the sporty Oyster bracelet. <> <>

Rolex GMT-Master II Batgirl 126710 vs Batman 116710

Rolex dials are a study in meticulous craftsmanship and design continuity. A seemingly minor but significant update between the Batman and Batgirl models is found in the text at the 6 o’clock position on the dial. Initially, Rolex watches bore the “Swiss Made” mark, a testament to their quality and origin. However, with the Batgirl model, Rolex introduced a small, yet distinctive coronet symbol nestled between “Swiss” and “Made.”

This subtle addition marks a delineation in production timelines, distinguishing newer models like the Batgirl with an updated brand signature. It reflects Rolex’s attention to detail and its commitment to evolving its watches’ aesthetic, albeit subtly, to incorporate modern branding elements. <> <>

Bracelet and Clasp

A significant differentiator between the Batman and Batgirl models lies in their bracelets. The Batman was initially presented with Rolex’s Oyster bracelet, known for its durability and a sportier look that aligns with the tool-watch heritage of the GMT-Master II line.

The Batgirl marked a departure by featuring the Jubilee bracelet, which was traditionally associated with more dress-oriented models like the Datejust. This choice endowed the Batgirl with a more refined appearance, blending the robust functionality of the GMT-Master II with a touch of elegance. The Jubilee bracelet is celebrated for its comfort and sophisticated design, featuring five-piece links that offer a more flexible fit on the wrist.

Moreover, the introduction of the Batgirl model coincided with the debut of the updated Rolex clasp, which includes the Easylink comfort extension system. This system allows the wearer to quickly adjust the bracelet size by approximately 5mm, catering to comfort during varying conditions, such as temperature fluctuations that can cause the wrist to expand or contract. <> <>

Rolex Caliber 3285 Movement

Movement and Power Reserve

At the heart of the distinction between the Batman and Batgirl models is the advancement in movement technology. The Batman is powered by the Calibre 3186, a movement revered for its reliability and precision. It features a 48-hour power reserve, a hallmark of its era, providing ample autonomy for the wearer.

The Batgirl, on the other hand, showcases Rolex’s continued innovation in watchmaking with the introduction of the Calibre 3285. This newer movement not only offers an improved power reserve of up to 70 hours but also incorporates Rolex’s Chronergy escapement. The Chronergy escapement enhances the movement’s efficiency and reliability, representing Rolex’s forward-thinking approach to its mechanical prowess.

The transition from the Calibre 3186 to the 3285 underscores Rolex’s dedication to improving the functional aspects of its watches, ensuring that models like the Batgirl not only keep pace with aesthetic and ergonomic expectations but set new benchmarks in mechanical performance.

To date, Rolex has made three versions of the Rolex GMT-Master II Batman :

GMT-Master II ref 116710BLNR with Oyster Bracelet, powered by Caliber 3186

GMT-Master II ref 126710BLNR with Jubilee Bracelet, powered by Caliber 3285

GMT-Master II ref 126710BLNR with Oyster Bracelet, powered by Caliber 3186

The Rolex GMT-Master II Batman turned a decade old in 2023. While it has a relatively short history, it has definitely made its mark in the industry and reserved itself a place in every watch collector’s wish list. Explore our collection of Rolex Batman watches at SwissWatchExpo.com . <>

Rolex GMT-Master II Batman Watch Review

By Nina Scally Updated February 22, 2024

Check out my review of the famous Rolex GMT-Master II Batman!

rolex yacht master 2 batman

The Rolex GMT Master II has a legendary status in the watch-collecting world. It’s also a solid investment. But these weren’t the only reasons why I chose to bring the Rolex Batman into my collection.

Sure, the watch has a striking aesthetic and a catchy name, but there is far more to this GMT watch than meets the eye.

Here’s my review of the GMT-Master II Batman and why I love it so much.

Table of Contents

Let’s Talk About Rolex Nicknames

When it comes to nicknames for Rolex watches , there are a lot more of them than you think. Only the most collectible of Rolex watches deserve a nickname.

You may have heard of monikers like “The Paul Newman Daytona” and the “Pepsi GMT”. These names, however, exist nowhere in the brand’s official catalog. They are names that beloved Rolex fans have given them over time.

It was the Submariner ref 6538 that gave Rolex’s iconic dive watch the “ James Bond ” nickname. Likewise, the Submariner 5523 model from the 1960s is responsible for the “Bart Simpson” name.

There are also a couple of green interpretations that have acquired their term of affection from avid collectors.

Take the Rolex “Hulk”, for example, adorned with a striking green ceramic bezel. Its instantly recognizable green hue is understandably reminiscent of the fictional Marvel character.

The Submariner Kermit depicts the all-green Jim Henson puppet through a 50th-anniversary Submariner special. The watch was lovingly given its name after the popular green Sesame Street character thanks to its green ceramic bezel insert.

(Below: Rolex Kermit)

rolex yacht master 2 batman

My Rolex’s nickname, however, takes the name of the courageous and stealth-like Marvel character Batman. It adopts the same blue and black colors as the superhero with its Cerachrom bezel. Rolex has flirted with the color blue on several occasions.

The inconspicuous “Blueberry” is an example of such, as well as the “Bluesy” model. The former was fitted with an all-blue bezel, while the latter features a blue dial with a matching blue bezel.

There’s also the “Pepsi” GMT-Master and Master II models. Vintage and modern models alike have been acquitted with this name thanks to their blue and red bezels.

A Bit of Background on the Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman”

Gotham City’s most famous vigilante is represented in the alluring black and blue bezel of the GMT-Master II 126710BLNR watch . It makes for a particularly attractive version of the travel companion.

Any Rolex fan would agree that its unmistakable aesthetic is highly sought-after on the pre-owned market. Devoted collectors will pay a high price to add a Batman to their collection, and you can’t blame them.

The original Batman reference 116710BLNR was first introduced in 2014 and ran in production for five years. As is usually the case for a Rolex watch, once production ceased, prices shot through the roof.

Almost immediately after its retirement, the GMT-Master II ref 126710BLNR was launched. It was nearly identical to its predecessor aside from its modified movement and Jubilee bracelet.

rolex yacht master 2 batman

Swapping the original Oyster bracelet for the dressier five-link Jubilee bracelet gave the watch its lesser-known ‘Batgirl” name. It would seem that fans can’t resist a befitting pet name for their beloved Rolex timepieces.

Both the original 116710BLNR and the 126710BLNR fetch good prices on the pre-owned market. These are considered good value propositions.

rolex yacht master 2 batman

As recently as 2022, the original GMT-Master was fetching prices of around $22k. The Jubilee bracelet version has demanded an investment price of $26.5k in the past.

How the value of the Batman will fluctuate from year to year remains to be seen. That said, the watch is set to hold its value well, at the very least.

The Evolution of the Batman Watch

If you’re a bit of a Rolex nerd like me, you’ll already know that the GMT-Master has been around for some time. The watch was first created in 1955 at the request of Pan Am Airlines.

Designed to stave off the undesirable effects of jet lag experienced by pilots, it proved a great success. To do so, the brand borrowed the rotating bezel from its Turn-O-Graph design.

Rolex added a 24-hour scale to the rotating bezel, along with an additional hour hand.

Unfortunately, the two-hour hands were connected, meaning that they couldn’t be set separately.

Then, in 1983, Rolex remedied this with the GMT-Master II. Its thicker and wider case gained it the less flattering nickname, the “Fat Lady”. The uncoupled hands, however, were a bonus.

What Drew Me to the Rolex GMT-Master “Batman”?

I travel a lot. When I pack for a trip, I never forget my GMT-Master II.

In most cases, the items I take with me on my trips are either chosen for practicality or style alone. The Rolex Batman, however, is just about the only thing I do pack that covers both.

rolex yacht master 2 batman

It’s stylish, comfortable and practical. Plus, it can go from business class to the boardroom seamlessly. It’s all down to a spec list packed with go-anywhere, do-anything features.

A Versatile Design

Initially, when I went in search of adding a Rolex GMT watch to my collection, I considered the “ Pepsi ”. Albeit a more expensive alternative, it’s also a touch flashier.

Choosing between the two is a personal preference, but for me, the “Batman” swayed me. Why? Because the modest blue and black color scheme is more to my taste.

The two-tone bezel surrounding a rich black dial is a match made in heaven. It also lends itself to a very versatile design. I can dress this watch with pretty much every outfit in my wardrobe. It never looks out of place.

I tend to wear black jeans a lot, and for this, the Rolex Batman is the perfect accompaniment. A blue or black jacket also pairs well with the watch.

Likewise, professional attire seems to look awesome with the GMT-Master II. In part, this is down to the bracelet. It’s another winning feature for me.

The Jubilee Bracelet

Originally fitted on the Oyster bracelet until 2019, the Batman shared this same feature with the Submariner. That said, the central links were polished, unlike the Submariner’s satin-brushed middle links. It made the GMT-Master feel dressier.

Then, when the GMT-Master II came along, the decision to fit it with the Jubilee bracelet elevated it even further. The bracelet also benefits from the brand’s patented Easylink comfort extension feature.

I find the feature particularly handy during times when my wrist has swollen under warm temperatures or after heavy meals. I can make a seamless adjustment to the bracelet length in these situations and get an instant snug fit.

rolex yacht master 2 batman

If, like me, you find the clasp is constantly in contact with hard surfaces, there are ways to preserve it. Having researched the market, I have found several trustworthy aftermarket sellers that produce clear plastic protectors.

Simply fit one of these to your clasp, and you don’t need to worry about it scratching up.

A Unisex Fit

Attire-wise, I’m pleased to say there are a couple of things my wife and I share. The GMT-Master II Batman is one of those few.

It looks so good on her that it almost feels a little unfair. Despite the appeal it has on a male audience, a respectable 40mm size serves it well on a woman’s wrist, too. I’m pretty sure this is yet another reason why the watch appeals to the masses on such a universal level.

It’s a Talking Point

Wherever I go, people notice this watch. I can see why even the most socially awkward of people will take a chance on the GMT-Master II. It’s a bold statement, but it’s also a great ice-breaker.

Whether I match this watch with casual weekend attire or pair it with a suit, the compliments pour in. I like compliments.

The Key Features of the Rolex GMT-Master II Watch

There is a lot to be said for a functional tool that looks as timeless as the Rolex Batman. Here are a few key features I love about how the watch looks and feels.

The dial is beautifully proportioned and well-balanced. It works for me when traveling from one meeting to the next. The hour markers are legible and practical, thanks to being treated with plenty of Chromalight for evening wear.

I can track the passing days of the month in the white date window at 4 o’clock. The date aperture is also dressed under a Cyclops lens for added viability. It’s a signature feature you’ll see across Rolex’s catalog of tool watches.

The Cerachrom material used for the bezel that frames this dial is highly scratch-resistant and keeps its color.

For me, this was an important feature. While many vintage watch collectors prefer a faded bezel for added character, Cerachrom preserves a youthful look.

The bezel turns crisply and cleanly under the fingertips. A satisfying click indicates that it has been aligned with one of the 24-hour locations. It also features the emblematic knurled edge to assist with an easy grip.

The Bracelet

The bracelet of the Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman” is beautifully crafted. It exudes a refined and opulent feel against the wrist.

Although it originally debuted in the Rolex Datejust, it looks more than at home on the GMT-Master II. If I want to dress up, I can rely on the bracelet element to take my outfit to new heights.

The Movement

Housed inside a strong steel case is the Caliber 3285, which replaces the 3186. As a result, it promises an abundance of improvements.

These include better shock resistance, a better power reserve, and better accuracy. Its larger diameter affords a bigger barrel, offering a 70-hour power reserve.

It also comprises the Chronergy escapement and is labeled a Superlative Chronometer. That means that twice the precision of a chronometer-certified movement is guaranteed. With an accuracy of -2 / +2 seconds per day, I know it won’t let me down while I’m on the go.

How To Use the Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman”?

All the hands of the Rolex Batman watch are adjusted using the winding crown. When not setting the time, this feature is screwed in (position 0). For manual winding, it’s a simple job of pulling out to position 1.

Position 2 gives control over the main hour hand. It moves the hand backward and forward in one-hour increments. It doesn’t have a Quickset function, however. Instead, the date needs to be changed by passing the hour hand over the 12 o’clock position.

rolex yacht master 2 batman

Position 3 affords control over both hour hands and the minute hand while the second hand is stopped.

When I’m away from home, I use my home time in the 24-hour bezel and the local time on the main dial. When I’m away, and I want to track another time zone for a few hours, I can do this too.

I simply move the bidirectional bezel forward or backward, the correct number of hours difference according to my own home time.

rolex yacht master 2 batman

Although it can’t track three time zones at once, it does serve a handy purpose. It’s a great feature to have if I want to switch between two time zones in addition to local time.

Closing Thoughts: You’d Be Hard-Pressed to Find a More Versatile Watch

The Rolex GMT-Master II is a solid-looking, solid-feeling, well-built watch. It’s a daily beater with the added functionality of a GMT complication. For me, it doesn’t matter whether I travel with this watch or not.

Its classic aesthetic and manageable 40mm size are perfect for carrying that bold black and blue bezel. The Rolex “Batman” has an instantly recognizable aesthetic. It will get noticed in a crowded room and makes for a great talking point.

I love the watch’s ability to track an additional time zone by switching from home time on the bezel. Personally, the comfort and charismatic charm of the Jubilee bracelet is a winning feature.

Its micro-adjustment clasp is adaptable to changing environments but always looks classy.

Furthermore, the watch is a great value proposition. In my opinion, if you’re thinking of investing in the Rolex GMT-Master II watch , you’re not making a bad choice with the “Batman”.

Rolex Batman vs Batgirl - Difference between popular GMT Master II models

Rolex Batman got its nickname from the DC character due to the use of black and blue colors on its Cerachrom bezel. Over the years, there is another nickname that has got associated with the GMT Master II line, and that is the Batgirl. There has been a long-standing debate about Rolex Batman vs Batgirl. Which is the better one, and what is the difference to begin with? Let’s find out.

Rolex Batman vs Batgirl – What’s the difference?

Rolex GMT-Master II with a black and blue bezel is referred to as Batman or Batgirl. While the Oyster bracelet model is known as Batman, the Jubilee one is referred to as Batgirl. Yes, this means that the only difference between a Batman and a Batgirl is the type of bracelet used.

If they both have the same bezel color combination, why are both not called Batman ? This is because these nicknames are not official, and they are given by Rolex fans.

Here’s why the Rolex community decided to give them different names:

GMT Master II Batgirl

After the discontinuation of the reference 116710BLNR in 2019, Rolex introduced the ref. 126710BLNR but this time only in the Jubilee bracelet. In order to easily differentiate between the two different models, the community gave the newer version the nickname Batgirl.

At that time, Batman and Batgirl were used to differentiate between the 116710BLNR and the 126710BLNR models. Compared to the 116710BLNR, the 126710BLNR brought an upgraded 3285 movement, offering a power reserve of up to 70 hours. The new movement is also more shock resistant and resistant to magnetic-field.

While you cannot see the movement unless you open the case back, what you can see is the dial. The dial on the two models is slightly different, where the 126710BLNR got a very tiny change. The dial on the older model said “Swiss Made” below the 6 o’clock hour marker, whereas the one on the newer model featured a Rolex crown in the middle of the words Swiss and Made. This crown helped people differentiate between a 116710BLNR with a Jubilee and a 126710BLNR with a Jubilee.

Although the 126710BLNR was initially launched only on a Jubilee bracelet, Rolex later released a 126710BLNR with an Oyster bracelet as well.

Since then, any Rolex GMT Master II with a blue and black bezel and an Oyster bracelet is called the Batman . The Batgirl is referred to any blue/black bezel GMT Master II sitting on a 5-link Jubilee bracelet.

Rolex Batman – Still a fan favorite

Rolex GMT Master II Batman is a highly coveted timepiece that was introduced back in 2013. It was the first GMT Master II watch to feature a bi-color ceramic bezel . The watch was showcased to the watch community at the Baselword 2013. The two-tone design and the unique black and blue color combination were immediately appreciated by watch enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Rolex Batman GMT Master

While the Rolex Pepsi gives more of a classy look, the Batman GMT Master II gives a sporty vibe. This is why fans always prefer Batman in an Oyster bracelet. Thus, this gives Batman a slight edge over Batgirl in the watch community.

GMT Master II Batman or Batgirl – What do the celebrities prefer?

One should wear watches based on their own taste but not on the basis of what others wear. Nevertheless, the Rolex GMT Master II Batman seems to be a more popular choice among celebrities when compared to Batgirl. The Rolex Batman has been spotted on the wrists of Roger Federer , Rob Lowe and Christian Benteke.

Rolex Batgirl, on the other hand, seems to be a choice of the rapper AJ Tracey.

Price difference between the two models

Today, at the Rolex Authorized Dealer showroom, you can only buy the 126710BLNR. Though, the model is now available on both Oyster and Jubilee bracelets. In case you are looking for the 116710BLNR, you will have to check the secondary market. For your convenience, we have listed rough prices for both retail as well as the second-hand market as per the date of publishing this article.

Model Market Price
126710BLNR – Oyster Retail €10050
126710BLNR – Jubilee Retail €10250
126710BLNR – Oyster Secondary €17500
126710BLNR – Jubilee Secondary €18500
116710BLNR – Oyster Secondary €16000

Batman vs Batgirl Rolex – Why give different nicknames to two watches that are essentially the same

After reading the aforementioned information, I am sure this question must have popped into your head. All of a sudden, this has got us thinking, why is a GMT Master II Pepsi always called a Pepsi no matter what bracelet it is on? Even though you can get a slightly different shade of red and blue due to the different material used on the bezel. To recall, the GMT Master II was available with Bakelite or aluminum bezels before the ceramic one came out. But all of those models are still called Pepsi.

While the Rolex GMT Master II Batman gives a more sporty look, the Batgirl offers a more dressier look.

This has everything to do with the fact that when the 116710BLNR was discontinued, Rolex made the 126710BLNR available only in Jubilee. If the 126710BLNR was launched in both Oyster and Jubilee models, we might have never seen the nickname Batgirl.

Is Batgirl a women’s watch?

Since the watch has a feminine nickname, many think Batgirl is tuned towards women. But that is not the case. Rolex watches are designed to be unisex, and the GMT Master II has been classified as a men’s watch. The GMT Master II has a 40mm dial and both men and women can wear it.

Rolex Batgirl vs Batman – Which one should you pick?

If you have landed on this article, chances are that you are contemplating between picking a Batman or a Batgirl. The short and simple answer here would be – it depends. It depends on what you prefer. In case you are a person like me who likes a more sporty-looking wristwatch, you are going to love the Batman . But if you are a person who likes their watch to be more elegant, then the Batgirl should be your pick.

Review: Rolex “Batman” GMT-Master II 116710BLNR

rolex gmt master ii batman review

Table of Contents

The Rolex GMT Master II 116710BLNR, affectionately known as the “Batman,” or “Dark Knight,” made a notable entrance into the horology scene in 2013. It was Rolex’s inaugural foray into a two-tone ceramic bezel, presenting a striking black and blue combination that instantly garnered attention and earned its moniker.

This model seamlessly blends sporty functionality with business casual elegance, making it an ideal choice among Rolex Sports watches . Its sturdy design coupled with the GMT feature caters to the dynamic lifestyle of the active professional.

Despite its initial positioning, the Rolex Batman watch has transcended boundaries, now gracing wrists in the most formal of gatherings. Its market performance echoes this versatility, with a second-hand value that underscores the watch’s lasting appeal and enduring prestige.

rolex batman case

The Rolex GMT Master II 116710BLNR is quite the standout piece, and not just for its sleek looks. Rocking a 40mm case with a depth of 12.4mm, it’s crafted from 904L stainless steel, which is the good stuff—super durable and resistant to corrosion. Additionally, it boasts a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, enhancing the durability and longevity that Rolex Sports watches are renowned for.

But the real showstopper is its bezel. This watch boasts the first-ever bi-color ceramic bezel on a Rolex. Launched in 2013, the GMT-Master II Batman wowed everyone with its sleek Cerachrom ceramic black and blue bezel—a single, seamless piece that’s a testament to Rolex’s innovation and craftsmanship.

You might hear some chatter about the ceramic “Pepsi” bezel – a blue and red bezel, being the first dual-tone, but that’s not the case. The Batman Rolex swooped in first as the first GMT Master II with a midnight and twilight hues that are not only eye-catching but also incredibly tough, resisting scratches that would mar other materials.

Rolex’s patented process creates this bezel as a unitary piece, which is no small feat, given how tricky ceramic can be to work with. The Rolex “Batman” is not only stylish but also robust, with a water resistance of up to 100 meters. Its secure screw-down crown is flanked by protectors, safeguarding against water damage.

rolex batman dial

Born as a stunner, The Rolex GMT Master II Batman boasts a dial that’s both sleek and functional. Crafted with a deep black dial background, the dial is punctuated by hour markers made from 18K white gold, giving it that touch of sophistication that Rolex aficionados love. But it’s not just about looks; this timepiece is a traveler’s best friend. Thanks to its GMT feature, the “Batman” sports an arrowhead blue GMT hand, filled with a special luminous material.

When the lights go down, this timepiece truly shines—literally. The hands and hour markers are packed with a luminous material that glows with an intense blue radiance, ensuring the time is just a glance away, no matter how dark it gets, weather during day and night hours.

Let’s not overlook the date feature at 3 o’clock, Rolex developed a sync perfectly local time, always keeping you in the know. And if you’ve ever squinted at a date window, you’ll appreciate the cyclops lens on this one, magnifying the date for easy reading.

The Strap/Bracelet

rolex batman bracelet

Adorning the Rolex GMT Master II 116710BLNR is the iconic Oyster bracelet, 20mm in width, marrying casual sophistication with engineered functionality. The “EasyLink” comfort extension system is a highlight, permitting a 5mm bracelet adjustment for optimal fit—a small but crucial feature for day-long comfort.

Crafted from 904L stainless steel bracelet, the oyster bracelet with anti-corrosive properties are akin to a submarine’s resilience, yet it maintains the finesse expected of a luxury timepiece. The “Triplock” screw-down crown, a Rolex signature, ensures the casing is watertight, reinforcing the watch’s robustness while safeguarding the sophisticated 31-jewel Rolex 3186 caliber movement within.

In the newer model, the new Rolex Batman (AKA Batgirl), Rolex has opted for the Jubilee bracelet , known for its elegance and comfort, adding a fresh twist to the “Batman” while maintaining its legacy of precision and durability. This update provides a refined aesthetic, aligning with the desires of those who appreciate a classic look paired with contemporary innovation. Read to learn more about the differences between a Rolex Batman and Batgirl .

The Movement

rolex caliber 3186 movement

Tucked inside the robust case of the Rolex “Batman” GMT-Master II 116710BLNR is the Rolex 3186 caliber—this isn’t just any movement, it’s a self-winding maestro. Certified by COSC as a Certified Superlative Chronometer, a Swiss-watchmaking at its finest, boasting a precision of -2/+2 seconds per day.

With 31 jewels and a hearty 28,800 vibrations per hour, this movement is the silent powerhouse behind the GMT-Master II performance. And it’s not just about keeping the hands ticking; it manages a 50-hour power reserve, so your watch keeps its cool even when it’s off your wrist for a couple of days.

The Rolex GMT-Master II shines with its dual time zone capability. Whether you’re tracking the stock markets in Tokyo or setting up a conference call in New York, this watch displays two time zones simultaneously with effortless elegance. The local time hands move independently, making it a cinch to set without disturbing your reference time. It’s a timepiece for the suave jet-setter, someone who appreciates a blend of refined aesthetics and mechanical ingenuity.

The Competitive Landscape

The luxury watch market thrives on diversity and distinction, with each brand carving out its niche through signature features and styles.

  • TUDOR Black Bay GMT S&G M79833MN-0001: This watch presents a compelling alternative to the Rolex “Batman” with its two tone bezels – matte brown and black bi-colored bezel. While it doesn’t feature the signature blue of the “Batman,” its bi colour ceramic bezel offers a distinctive aesthetic, and the robust build quality is a hallmark shared with its Rolex cousin.
  • OMEGA’s Seamaster Planet Ocean Ref. 215.92.46.51.01.001:  Although not bi-colored, brings to the table a strong brand reputation and a focus on diving functionality with a sleek, all-black ceramic bezel that speaks to a different but equally discerning audience.
  • GRAND SEIKO Spring Drive GMT Ref. SBGE257: stands out with its Spring Drive movement, offering supreme accuracy. It lacks the bi-colored bezel but compensates with a sophisticated design and a unique movement not found in the Rolex.
  • Hublot Classic Fusion Orlinski Titanium: This watch offers a bold, artistic design with its faceted case and bezel, appealing to those who prefer a more avant-garde look over the classic style of the “Batman.”
  • Breitling SuperOcean Heritage Chronograph 44: This watch combines a retro-inspired design with modern-day watchmaking technology, although uni-colored, which makes it a stylish yet durable contender in the luxury watch market.

Why Should You Invest?

wearing rolex gmt batman

When it comes to smart investment pieces in the horology world, the Rolex “Batman” GMT Master II, affectionately dubbed the “Batman,” is a standout contender. With a market appreciation of +61.3%, it demonstrates remarkable value retention and robust demand, setting it apart as a prime investment piece. This performance is particularly impressive given that most watches depreciate after purchase — the “Batman” is a rare breed that not only maintains its worth but appreciates significantly.

The resilience of the Rolex “Batman” GMT Master II is also evident when stacked against the WatchCharts Overall Market Index, which has dipped by 6.9% over the last six months. In contrast, the “Batman” has seen a mere 4.8% decrease, outstripping the market index by 2.1% and even its own Rolex Market Index by 0.3%. Such figures underline the model’s robust market standing and hint at its potential for continued appreciation.

Endorsements by high-profile personalities like Roger Federer, Kasper Schmeichel, and Karim Benzema, not to mention watch aficionado John Mayer, add a layer of prestige and desirability to the Rolex GMT Batman and other Rolex watches . Their choice to wear this model at significant events speaks volumes about its status as a symbol of triumph and excellence.

Pricing & Availability

The Rolex “Batman” GMT Master II 116710BLNR had a retail price tag of approximately S$12,300 as of January 2020, when bought directly from authorized dealers. However, the market tells a different story; its pre-owned value has soared to an average of S$19,755. This uptick reflects not just the watch’s prestige but also its scarcity and demand.

In the past 12 months, the “Batman” has seen a notable number of transactions, with 1,687 sales recorded, indicating its popularity in the pre-owned market. The selling prices have ranged between S$18,674 and S$20,889, showing a relatively tight market range that underscores its stable allure among collectors.

Despite the fluctuations common in luxury goods, the Batman watches maintain a low volatility rate of 5.6%, suggesting that its market price is relatively consistent, a reassuring sign for potential GMT Master II collection investors and enthusiasts alike.

1. What is the most obvious difference between the original Batman and the newer GMT-Master II models?

The most obvious difference is the bracelet design. The original “Batman” comes with the Oyster bracelet, while newer models like the 126710BLNR feature a Jubilee bracelet. Similarly, both the two watches, original and new Rolex Batman had a black and blue bi-color bezel, which was a first watch for Rolex, showcasing two tone bezels in ceramic material.

2. How does the bi-color bezel on the Rolex “Batman” GMT-Master II enhance its functionality for tracking night hours?

The bi-color bezel on the Rolex “Batman” represents day and night hours, with the black portion indicating the night hours. This, along with a 24-hour GMT hand and hour markers, allows wearers to easily distinguish between day and night in a second time zone.

3. Are there any technical specifications that distinguish GMT-Masters with two-tone bezels like the “Batman”?

GMT-Masters like the “Batman” with two-tone bezels feature Rolex’s proprietary Cerachrom material, which is highly scratch-resistant and retains its color over time. They also have an efficient escapement and gear train, contributing to their precise timekeeping.

4. How does the winding crown on the Rolex “Batman” GMT-Master II contribute to its reputation as a precious metal timepiece?

The winding crown on the Rolex “Batman” GMT-Master II is made from precious metal and includes the Triplock waterproof system, ensuring water resistance and enhancing the watch’s value. The crown’s design also contributes to the overall sleek look of the timepiece, complementing its black and blue ceramic bezel.

In the Rolex Batman review, it’s clear that the “Batman” has soared beyond its initial sporty-business casual niche to become a staple at even the most upscale events. Its robust market performance and strong secondary value are testaments to its broad appeal and sustained prestige.

Key Takeaways

  • Its distinctive two-tone ceramic bezel is not only a design triumph but also a functional enhancement for travelers.
  • A strong secondary market positions its price at S$19,839, reflecting its desirability.
  • Its investment potential is bolstered by its popularity among notable figures like Roger Federer, enhancing its cachet.

Batman on Tour: Testing the Rolex GMT-Master II

rolex yacht master 2 batman

Rolex has updated its popular travel watch, the GMT-Master II, in steel with its blue-and-black “Batman” bezel. We tested one of the first pieces available with a Jubilee bracelet and a new movement in this feature from the WatchTime archives (original photos by Marcus Krüger).

The blue-and-black color combination on the bezel of this Rolex GMT-Master II led its fans to call it “Batman.” The current version with a Jubilee bracelet and a new movement was introduced in 2019. Its predecessor with these same colors appeared in 2013, and was the first Rolex model with a two-tone ceramic bezel. This particular color combination did not exist previously. The first GMT-Master II of 1954 sported the blue-and-red 24-hour scale and was later called “Pepsi” because of this color combination. These colors were first selected to more clearly distinguish between the day and night hours in the second time zone. These and other specifications originated from Pan Am Airways, who requested the model. New jet airplanes were making intercontinental flights shorter and more popular, and with the increasing number of flights came a rise in the desire for watches with a dual time zone. The popularity of the GMT-Master grew from its pilots’-watch flair and its colorful and immediately recognizable bezel. Later, there were more reserved versions like the black-and-red “Coke” model.

Today the GMT-Master II in steel is offered in two versions that differ only in the color of their bezels: the Pepsi and the Batman, our test watch. Both feature a new movement and the five-row Jubilee bracelet that was once reserved for Datejust models only. Rolex previously equipped the GMT-Master II with the sportier three-row Oyster bracelet on the gold and Rolesor (steel and gold) GMT-Master II models. Rolex designed the Jubilee bracelet in 1945 for the Datejust; but as early as 1959, the GMT-Master was also available with an optional Jubilee bracelet. Like the Oyster bracelet for the GMT-Master II, the inner links are polished and the outer links have a brushed finish.

The Jubilee bracelet is very comfortable to wear. Its small links lie snugly and do not pull delicate wrist hair. The Oyster bracelet is also comfortable thanks to its curved links. The bracelet and the case are still made of non-corrosive 904L stainless steel, which Rolex has recently begun calling “Oystersteel.”

Secure Lock Rolex does not pair an Oyster clasp with the Jubilee bracelet here as it does with the Datejust watches but instead uses the Oysterlock folding clasp like it does on its sport models. It has an additional safety bar but looks very similar – both have the Easylink extension that can lengthen the bracelet by up to 5 mm. This practical mechanism is helpful when higher temperatures or physical activity may cause wrist size to increase. A half link can be folded out from the clasp to make the bracelet longer with no obvious difference in its appearance.

The high-quality clasp on the Jubilee bracelet is nearly perfect, both in its workmanship and in its ease of operation. The fold-out safety bar blends in when shut. Opening the safety bar by lifting the Rolex crown reveals a lever that is also easy to lift for opening the clasp fully.

The winding crown is also simple to use to wind the watch after unscrewing it from its locked position. In the first pulled position, the normal hour hand can be advanced forward or back in hourly increments to set a new zone time. The date will also follow in either direction. In the second pulled position, the minutes hand can be adjusted (and with it, the 24-hour and the normal hour hand). Thus, the 24-hour hand is best used for the home time and/or for the GMT for pilots, while the normal hour hand shows the local time. The GMT-Master II is well known for this practical travel watch function. Many other watch manufacturers offer only a quick adjustment of the 24-hour hand, which is inconvenient when traveling.

In addition, with the GMT-Master II, it is possible to set another time zone temporarily using the bezel. For example, if you are in the U.S. and are working with a company in Europe, simply turn the bezel so that the GMT-Master II shows the time in the desired time zone to know the availability of your business contact at a glance. All in all, the GMT-Master II offers extremely useful time zone functions.

Rolex Research At its beginning, in 1954, the bezel of the GMT-Master II was made of Plexiglas and the color and the white scale were printed on the underside. From 1959 to 2007, Rolex produced the bezel in aluminum, with the colors applied via an anodizing process. This was followed by a track made of zirconium oxide ceramic and with it, problems with the color. Monochromatic bezels were standard since two-tone tracks appeared to be a technical impossibility. But Rolex persisted in its research and found a solution for the first Batman by 2013. It developed and patented a process for the monobloc bezel that added a metallic salt on one half of the bezel prior to heat treatment in a kiln. The final colors were produced by sintering in a kiln at 1,600 degrees Celsius for more than 24 hours.

A second problem was achieving the desired red color for the blue-and-red Pepsi bezel, since there is no mineral-based pigment that produces a rich red. After years of research, Rolex came to rely on a ceramic based on aluminum oxide and added chromium oxide, magnesium oxide and a rare-earth oxide to produce the red half of the ceramic bezel. For the blue color, one half of the bezel was saturated again with a metallic salt solution prior to sintering.

The bezels of the Batman and the Pepsi are based on different ceramic substances, zirconium oxide and aluminum oxide, which explains why the blue colors on the two bezels look so different. On our test watch, the blue appears much brighter than on the new Pepsi model. However, the incident light plays a major role on our perception of color and as always, there are slight differences among the Pepsi bezels.

Both materials forming the track condense and shrink during the sintering process and must be machined with diamond tools to the exact measurements. To ensure that the numerals remain perfectly legible, the entire ring is coated with platinum using a PVD process and then carefully polished to leave the precious metal behind in the recessed dots and numerals. Both processes have been patented by Rolex. In addition to its scratch resistance, the ceramic bezels have the additional advantage of being UV resistant and do not fade.

Extended Power Reserve As with the Pepsi, the new time-zone Caliber 3285 is used in the updated Batman. With the exception of the chronograph, all Rolex self-winding watches are powered by the Caliber 31xx (the old version) or the new Caliber 32xx with a power reserve of 70 hours rather than 48. Unlike the Caliber 3186, the new movement has a ball bearing for the rotor. The proprietary Paraflex shock absorber is designed for improved performance in the case of impacts. But the greatest benefit for the wearer is the increased power reserve – instead of two days the watch now provides almost three full days of power, due primarily to the more efficient Chronergy escapement. The geometry of the pallet fork and escape wheel were optimized and, with the LIGA galvanic process, Rolex could create much lighter-weight cut-out components. The escapement mechanism is made of a nickel-phosphorous alloy to be impervious to magnetic fields.

Unchanged are the well-known features of Rolex movements: an extremely sturdy balance bridge (instead of a one-sided balance cock), the free-sprung hairspring with overcoil made of a paramagnetic niobium-zirconium alloy, and its fine regulator with its Microstella weights on the balance wheel. The movement can be regulated using a special tool without removing the movement from the case.

Rolex improved the caliber in the core virtues of accuracy, longevity and robustness. Decorations include a sunburst finish. Hand engraving is not present nor was it expected. The new movement can be easily identified by a small detail on the dial: a tiny Rolex crown is inserted between the two words “Swiss Made.”

As always at Rolex, the official chronometer certificate from the Swiss testing agency COSC confirms the high level of precision at various temperatures and positions. The company’s own in-house standards specify an even stricter adjustment of the daily average between -2 and +2 seconds per day. On the timing machine, our test watch met these higher expectations and showed an average deviation of only -0.5 seconds. All six positions remained between -2 and +2 seconds and the greatest positional deviation was only 4 seconds. There was a manageable drop in amplitude between the vertical and horizontal positions.

The price of the GMT-Master II, $9,250, remains in the mid range. There are more economical manufacture alternatives with a second time zone and also more expensive ones. But hardly any other manufacturer can keep pace with Rolex in terms of value retention. Since May 2019, this new edition has been available in very limited quantities – and in the next several years interested buyers will need to plan on longer wait times for delivery.

Rolex has hit the bull’s eye with the new edition of the black-and-blue GMT-Master II in steel. Even though the design has undergone only minor changes over the last 60 years, the watch has become a classic that appeals in its timelessness rather than seeming dated. The Batman colors are more reserved than the Pepsi with its bright red color and can easily be worn with a suit. The Jubilee bracelet matches the watch well. Rolex has also improved the technology with the new movement that offers the benefit of an extended power reserve.

Functionally Rolex offers more than most other manufacturers – from the bracelet extension to its time-zone adjustment. Also, accuracy, legibility and wearing comfort are at the highest levels. We would prefer to see a transparent caseback – and that Rolex would produce enough timepieces to satisfy demand.

I have 3 of the newer movements in a DJ 36 Two Tone and DJ36 steel + Explorer 1 and all 3 run slow in the -2 range per day. Although it is consistent at -2 it is annoying when I compare it to my Air King from 1997 (14000M) which till today runs bang on time and all other Rolexes in my collection run at around +4 per day…

Hmmm…quite confused I thought batman was that black and blue bezel with a president strap vs jubillee bracelet which is called batgirl!

Excellent article. The only flaw is that the current retail price, as listed on Rolex website is $10,550, not $9,250 as quoted in the article!

I own this watch and it is a favorite in my collection. Comfortable, functional, and can be dressed up or down. The Jubilee bracelet is beautiful and comfortable and wears better with suits than the Oyster bracelet. The Batman colors are more subtle than the Pepsi colors, but still add a pop of color that seems to be plenty for me. Great review of a fantastic watch.

Beautiful!!!!

Great article! But the Rate results seem a bit unscientific, to my understanding, +1 sec can be anything between +0.5 and +1.4 sec. Big difference for such an expensive watch. Btw, I bought such a watch with almost double the listed price last year.

Rolex is a fantastic brand, but it makes no sense for WatchTime to write an article in 2021 on the Batman which is 2 years old, and UNAVAILABLE unless you are willing to pay 2X over the price at the Authorized Dealer. WatchTime’s staff knows watches, and I would love to see you write comparisons with watches that are available. My suggestion is that you write a head-to-head piece with the Batman versus the Breitling Navitimer 8 Unitime. I stopped trying after several years to buy a Batman, and bought the Breitling. My Breitling is not limited to 2 time zones, and I can tell the time in all 24 world time zones by looking at the dial. I look forward to seeing WatchTime write more head-to-head comparisons in upcoming editions.

The lack of availability has spawned an army of people who put their names on waiting lists at every Rolex dealership, then resell the watch at a huge profit. So the real price of this watch is twice the list price. Occasionally someone is lucky enough to buy it at the list price, but this is certainly not my experience. I found many being sold at police auctions, suggesting that criminals are happy to pay double, because, hey, you only need to take a little cash from the stash in the trunk. I am only writing this in the hope that someone from Rolex will take pity on me and sell me one.

BOYCOTT Rolex. They, are running a Ponzi Scheme.

Absolutely,a load of bull cks and people should, duly boycott Rolex,as the same people, are getting watches and then doubling the price.Only, for Rolex to then sell them another.Whilst,a True Watch Enthusiast, will never be able,to get this Watch.Rolex and it’s chosen few,are running a Ponzi Scheme, and are as Good as commiting Fraud and Deception.BOYCOTT ROLEX.

Hi..I would love to have both !!! They are beautiful

What a joke. Never available, wait at least two maybe four (I’ve been waiting 4 years…Singapore) and if you want be prepared to pay double if not more. Why write about a wish!

nothing new, rolex always the same boring watches. the custumers are also the same boring people

Your opinion. Coming from someone with exceptionally poor communication skills.

Good afternoon I sending you this message regarding day Batman Rolex I am very interested

The Batman is a real beauty. I was fortunate enough to acquire the Pepsi just over a year ago and let me tell you “fantastic watch”. Keeps very consistently accurate time, 0.2 secs per day on average. Extremely comfortable to wear and the blue and red bezel looks fantastic in the light. Rolex you’ve hit a home run with the Batman and the Pepsi. I just wish more people could get them from dealers. It is a real shame that great watches like Rolex are so hard to get.

The Rolex GNT Master II is a beautiful watch. I waited patiently for 3 years and decided to buy a more beautiful watch – The Breitling Navitimer 8 Unitime! It is immediately available, shows the time in every city around the world at a glance, 70 hour reserve, and much less expensive. I highly recommend my Breitling as a better and more elegant GMT watch with no wait time! FYI, the price listed in this article is a tease since it is never In stock at the ADs. Watchtime should do an article on the Breitling Unitime.

I’m interested in this watch

Nice if you can ever get one in a lifetime.Seems there are ‘private’ waiting lists so same people get them all the time mostly to sell on.What about people that would like to obtain one for very special events!

This Rolex GMT-Master II with black/blue cerachrome bezel, is an absolutely stunning entry into the Rolex line of sports watches. Given the radical changes Rolex made to this newly-designed GMT, this line of watches should have been re-named, the “GMT-Master III.” What will it take for Rolex to move on from the “II” when it rather easily moved on from the “I?”

Absolutely love the new Batman which I purchased from a authorized Rolex dealer in the Boston area. I was not sure about the jubilee bracelet, but after wearing the watch for a few weeks, it’s extremely comfortable. Great job Rolex and nice overview Watch Time.

Watchtime did an excellent job producing this article. Rolex did a fantastic job improving the Batman with 72 hour power reserve. If only I could go to an authorized dealer and purchase it. I am looking to Jaeger LeCoulture to be my dual time zone watch. Not sure if/when the Rolex supply imbalance will ever improve in 2020.

That’s not a Batman… it’s a Batgirl.

Just got my Pepsi last week. Agree! Robust, comfortable and extremely legible all for $9,300 and reselling for $18,000. Crazy but for retail a beauty!!!

Awesome article, now if only I could find this at any AD in the New York area (or the world) to purchase at the retail price…I’d be there with bells on.

Rolex has hit a few home runs in recent times, correcting some bad decisions like the Short Hand Explorer 1, Datejust 2, and the oversized Day/ Date. The GMT2 needed no such “correction” and was merely improved upon (if that’s even possible with Rolex) with a new movement with longer power reserve and the introduction of the Jubilee bracelet… The GMT2 was always a masterpiece and the global short supply of this watch reflects this… Rolex is one of a few vertically integrated manufacturers and truly leads the industry in Switzerland… I think Grand Seiko from Japan is on par but does not yet have the marketing clout with brand recognition to go head to head with Rolex just yet – albeit the quality of their products and philosophies are very similar… From Gerry Dimatos

I have the previous Batman from 2017 and always wanted to know the difference. Now I know. Thanks.

I own this watch and it is a masterpiece of horology. While it may not showcase the dainty artistry of a Patek or F.P. Journe, it is bold, masculine and I don’t have to baby it. True to your test results, I lose about .5 secs a day. OUTSTANDING.

The Jubilee bracelet is so comfortable, I have to keep looking down to make sure it’s actually on. And the bezel… my God, the blue in that bezel… it could charm a cobra. This watch has probably ruined me for all other watches. Well done, Rolex.

Batman Rolex GMT Master II 126710BLNR & 116710 BLNR Review: The Blue & Black Rolex "Batman"

Why is Rolex Batman so popular? What's the connection with The Dark Knight and the Black & Blue Rolex Batman watch? Find out now!

What is a Batman Rolex?

Possibly the most expensive and famous of all Batman watches is the Rolex "Batman".  Of course, we're not talking about any watch that was worn on the wrist of Bruce Wayne. Rather, the Rolex GMT-Master II 126710BLNR (new 2021 model) and 116710BLNR (older 2013 model) with a two-colored black and blue bezel are another one of their watches that got a superhero nickname. Let's find out how and why this Rolex watch is connected to the Dark Knight.

Who wears a Rolex Batman?

Celebrities such as singer John Mayer, Actors Rob Lowe (Parks and Recreation) & Steve Carell (The Office), famous figures and athletes such as tennis champion Roger Federer, and Kasper Schmeichel (the goalkeeper for Leicester), and Karim Benzema (the striker for Real Madrid), Christian Benteke (professional Belgian soccer player) and many more sport stars.

First, we need to begin with what made the difference between the old Rolex GMT series and the new Rolex GMT-Master 2 series ? For starters, Rolex has decided to sell watches that make more use of their new patented "Cerachrom" hardened ceramic bezel inserts which are highly scratch resistant and won't fade with exposure to UV rays. In doing so Rolex had to challenge themselves to find a way to combine two colors with ceramic material. Back when bezels were manufactured using metal, this wasn't such a big deal but doing the same thing with ceramic material takes some serious creative thinking. Good thing that Rolex was never accused of being uncreative when it comes to manufacturing methods. They practically wrote the book on innovation.

Another difference between the two automatic winding sports models is the Oyster bracelet which was used on the previous model with ref 116710BLNR. In 2019, with the release of the next generation of the watch, reference number 126710, the Oyster bracelet was first replaced with the Jubilee bracelet on the newer models with the ref number 126710BLNR, and only in 2021 did they reintroduce the original Oyster bracelet to the newer model 126710 Oyster BATMAN.

The Rolex Batman price  literally shot up over the past few years and it's virtually impossible to buy one for the MSRP anywhere and it doesn't look like it will come down in price any time soon either. So now may be a good time to sell one. The BLNR is one of those exceptional watches where if you bought one a couple of years ago and never wore it, you would be sitting on a few thousand dollars more than you originally paid. With the volatility of Rolex prices lately, there's no saying that it will be dropping in price in the foreseeable future so if you buy one you will likely pay at the very least the full list price.

The BLNR Rolex 116710 is not the first two-tone bezel Rolex. The Rolex GMT collection has always had watches with two-tone bezels…well before the Rolex GMT Batman was introduced. This is a tradition that has lasted for over 50 years. From their "Pepsi" bezel with red and blue tones (which come to think of it, with those colors it would be more catchy if it was called the "Superman") to their "Coke" bezel with red and black (Daredevil or Deadpool?) Rolex two-toned bezels always somehow received a nice nickname. We now have yet another color combination for the bi-colored bezel blue and black which is called the "Batman" or "Dark Night". Some even call it "The Bruiser" because of the black and royal blue hues. Why Batman? Well, black and blue are some of the most common color combinations used in the classic Batman comics and shows, and …it sure sounds catchy!

Rolex has used these duotone bezels for over half a century and the Pepsi and Coke dials had a practical purpose. They were an easy way to distinguish between the AM and PM hours.  The only catch was that the colors and contrast really stuck out like a sore thumb and those that are more conservative in the way they dress would need another choice of colors that would sit well in business attire. While there are many people that still love the red & black Coke bezels and red & blue Pepsi bezels around the dials, the black & blue is pushing its way up in popularity, most likely because of the versatility of the color combination of this black and blue bezel.

Which special features does the Batman Rolex GMT-Master II 116710BLNR have to offer?

The Rolex GMT-Master II "Dark Night" or "Batman" watch has a dual time zone feature and for the second time zone hand, uses a matching blue color on the GMT arrowhead hour hand which has a luminous fill. This GMT time zone complication is very convenient for people who travel or that make frequent calls to a country or state with another time zone.

The 40mm Rolex Batman GMT watch's case and bracelet are crafted of the highly corrosion-resistant 904L Oystersteel and utilizes the patented "Triplock" screw-down crown which locks the case as tight as the hatch of a submarine. This protects the Rolex 3186 caliber automatic movement which is a 31 jewel, COSC certified Superlative Chronometer which has an accuracy of -2/+2 seconds per day and beats at 28,800 VPH for up to a 50-hour power reserve. The dial has a luminous, seconds, minutes, and hour hand with luminous hour markers and a cyclops magnifying lense over the date window.

To people who love luxury watches, Rolex is truly a superhero watchmaker and deserves every hero nickname they get such as the Rolex Batman watch. Another superhero watch you should look at is the Submariner "Hulk" which got its nickname and fame due to its unique color . One of the good things about this watch is that in the dark night, you'll find a very bright legible dial. Index and dot hour markers and hands are filled with luminous material and glow in a bright blue hue.

Is the Rolex Batman discontinued? From the time this article was written, the Rolex model 116710 BLNR discussed here has become more scarce since it's not being produced anymore and can still be found on the pre-owned market if you contact us . On the plus side, you can have a look at the full specs of the  NEW 2019 Rolex GMT Master II "Batman" Jubilee model # 126710BLNR and the even newer 2021 126710BLNR Oyster model side-by-side :

GMT‑Master II

Echoing emotions.

For the first time, the GMT-Master II in Oystersteel is presented with the Cerachrom bezel insert in grey and black ceramic introduced to the range in 2023. Two new versions are offered: one with our Oyster bracelet, the other with our Jubilee bracelet. Their green 24-hour hand displays much more than just an alternative time zone; it points to another location that resonates with the wearer – a reminder of the emotions that accompany each traveller.

Grey and black Cerachrom bezel insert

Subtle harmony

The bidirectional rotatable bezel of the new GMT-Master II watches is equipped with a two-colour, 24-hour graduated Cerachrom insert in grey and black ceramic. This muted colour contrast subtly evokes the alternation of day and night. The moulded, recessed graduations and numerals are coated with platinum via PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition), making them clearly visible.

Oystersteel

A high-performance alloy

The new versions of the GMT-Master II are crafted in Oystersteel. Produced exclusively for Rolex, this alloy is highly resistant to corrosion and shocks. It offers outstanding sheen and retains its lustre even when the watch is exposed to the most extreme conditions. This metal celebrates the identity of the model, which at its launch, was only available in steel.

Launch of the GMT-Master. This watch provided a tool for navigating between journey time points. With its dedicated 24‑hour hand and graduated, rotatable two-colour bezel, it enabled all those who constantly travelled in different time zones – airline pilots, ships’ captains, navigators, international businessmen and members of the Armed Forces – to know the time in two time zones at a glance.

The two-tone bezel insert is made in aluminum instead of Plexiglas for increased resistance to scratches and shocks. The alloy is anodized to create the different colours on the surface and make the insert harder.

New movement. Introduction of a new calibre that allowed the hour hand to be adjusted independently of the minute hand and 24-hour hand. The watch with the new movement was named the GMT-Master II. And the first version of the model bears a burgundy and black bezel insert to mark this change.

First ceramic bezel insert. The GMT-Master II welcomes a bezel insert made of ceramic, a first on a Rolex watch. This high-technology ceramic is extremely hard, virtually scratchproof, and its colour is unaffected by ultraviolet rays. In addition, thanks to its chemical composition, it is inert and cannot corrode.

Winding crown on the left. An unexpected reinterpretation of the GMT-Master II was revealed in 2022. The new version, with a green and black Cerachrom insert, stood apart from others in the range for having its winding crown on the left side of the case. The date window was also uniquely placed at 9 o’clock.

Grey and black insert and Oystersteel. Rolex unveils two new versions of the GMT-Master II, both equipped with a Cerachrom bezel insert in grey and black ceramic. Made of Oystersteel, they offer more discreet colour tones, subtly revealing their personality by way of a green 24‑hour hand.

Rolex Batman GMT Master II Review & Why It’s Fit For World Travel

Rolex batman gmt review.

The Rolex Batman GMT is one of the most popular Rolex watches and one of the most unobtainable as well. This stainless steel sports model provides a 24hr GTM bezel that is half blue and half black, thus representing a dark night, which is why it earned its nickname The Batman.

Stainless steel Rolex sports watches are some of the most sought after in the world and the Rolex Batman GMT Master II is one of the most in-demand. In 2013 the first reference of the Rolex Batman GMT was released, ref. 116710BLNR. At the time of the 2013 release, the Batman Saga was in full swing and the dark night just seemed fitting for a watch of this caliber.

This was the first time that Rolex introduced blue and black together. In the past Rolex released blue & red and red & black bezel combination but this was completely new, which some consider a major move from Rolex. Since the Rolex Batman release, it became an instant classic and has become a grail watch for many Rolex collectors. It is a watch that hasn’t been seen in authorized dealer cases in years and one that sells well above retail on the pre-owned market.

As of right now, the new 2021 Rolex GMT Master II Oyster Bracelet commands the highest pre-owned price for a couple reasons. This is the reference that we were fortunate enough to get hands on for this review. The first is that many consider the Oyster bracelet to be the best option for the Batman. Personally, I 100% agree. The second is because the 2021 Batman Oyster Bracelet reference has the improved 70hr power reserve, the 3285 movement . This combination has given enthusiasts the bracelet they want with the improved movement they desire.

Traveling With The Rolex Batman GMT Master II

What makes traveling with the Rolex Batman GMT special is that owners not only can travel in complete style and comfort, they can also travel with the confidence that they have an upper echelon GMT watch on their wrist. Rolex is known for making watches that can be depended on the most and be comfortable at the same time. When you consider the difficulties of traveling, it’s a breath of fresh air to look down and appreciate your watch and have the piece of mind that you can trust your travel companion.

Let’s talk about the GMT function because it’s the main secondary complication. The black and blue 24hr bezel is firm and yet smooth with a 24 position that is bi-directional. When entering a new time zone, Rolex has made it simple to adjust the time. Without stopping to reset the watch, the Rolex 3285 movement allows for the Rolex Batman GMT Master II to jump the hour hand for quick adjustments. Finally the date complication will move forward and backward when quick adjusting the hour hand. All of these features combined with build quality make the Rolex Batman GMT one of the best travel watches.

Rolex GMT Master II Batman

Improved In-House Rolex 3285 Calibre

One of the most favorable features of the Rolex GMT Master II Batman is the upgraded 3285 movement. Not only does the 3285 have an improved power reserve of 70hrs but it also compete against the impressive anti-magnetic Omega calibres .

Read a full review, read our Rolex 3285 Calibre article.

Bracelet Options

The current bracelet options for the Rolex Batman GMT are the Oyster and Jubilee. Both are extremely comfortable and designed to perfection. From our conversation with Rolex authorized dealers, Rolex produces equal amounts of both. Starting in 2021, owners can now buy an additional bracelet for Rolex GMT watches for both current and older Batman references.

2021 Rolex Batman GMT Oyster Bracelet 126710BLNR

The 2021 Rolex Batman GMT Master II on the Oyster bracelet is the perfect mixture of what Rolex collectors are looking for. Many collectors enjoy the Batman on an Oyster bracelet but until recently the upgrade 3285 movement was only available on the Jubilee bracelet. It was exciting to see Rolex release a reference in 2021 that included an Oyster bracelet on a Rolex Batman GMT with the 3285 calibre.

Legibility Of A Rolex Dial

Rolex is known for legibility and that hold true for the GMT Master II collection. The flat black dial on the Rolex Batman GMT is remarkably a deep black and is contrasted with luminous hour markers lined in white gold. After experiencing this watch for awhile, it was apparent why so many Rolex watches share similar dials. It’s because they simply provide one of the best quick look legible experiences.

The Timeless Appeal of The Rolex Batman GMT-Master II

The history of the rolex gmt-master ii .

The origins of this model dates back to the 1950s, when Rolex introduced the GMT-Master model as a tool for pilots and travelers. The GMT-Master was originally developed in collaboration with Pan American Airways. This airline needed a watch that could help pilots cope with the fast-growing global aviation. Having to switch between different time zones, provided the inspiration to create the tool.

Rolex GMT-Master

Rolex developed this watch, referring to the Greenwich Mean Time, equipped with a rotating bezel with a 24-hour scale. This meant that it was possible to read the time in a second-time zone using the bezel and hour hand.

The GMT-Master II

Over the years, the model was constantly updated and improved, resulting in the second version. The GMT-Master II includes an additional 24-hour hand, making it possible to keep track of both local time and home time simultaneously.

The GMT Master II also has a quickset function, which allows the date to be adjusted independently of the hour hand. This makes it easier to change the date when traveling between time zones without interfering with the precision of the time. These features have made the GMT-Master II particularly popular with frequent travelers and professionals working internationally.

The striking design and nickname of the Rolex “Batman”

One of the most striking features of the Rolex “Batman” GMT-Master II is, of course, the rotating bezel, divided into two parts: a black half and a blue half. The contrast between these colors gives the watch a unique look and has earned its nickname, the “Batman,” referring to the colors of Batman’s costume in the Dark Knight movie. The iconic Rolex logo adorns the dial at the usual 12 o’clock position, while the third-hand acts as the GMT hand to indicate the second time zone.

Rolex Batman

The unique features of the Rolex GMT-Master II “Batman”

Durability and aesthetics of the “batman”.

In addition to the details mentioned above, the bezel of the “Batman” features a thin platinum PVD coating, which provides a durable and scratch-resistant surface. This adds to the aesthetic appeal of the watch and ensures that it retains its luster even after years of heavy use.

Patrick Mahomes who signed a 10-year contract deal in July 2020, that was valued at $477 million, with an additional $26 million in bonus potential, possesses a mesmerizing collection of expensive watches. Luxury Swiss watch brands, renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship and heritage, make up the majority of Patrick Mahomes’ collection. Among his favorite brands, Rolex, Omega, and Cartier are the three remarkable ones. These renowned watchmakers are now known for their inventiveness, accuracy, and classic style.

Mahomes’ collection boasts an incredible range of models that perfectly capture the unique characteristics of each brand. The renowned skeletonized version of one of Cartier’s, the sought-after Omega Seamaster, and the iconic Rolex Daytona are among the most recognizable pieces in his collection. Let’s take a deeper look at his collection of watches.

Significant watches in Patrick Mahomes’ collection

The winner of Super Bowl LVIII owns a collection of numerous Rolex watches, including two $520K Daytonas and Yacht Masters. Mahomes also has numerous other items, including a $36,000 solid gold Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watch. His entire watch collection is valued at about $852,000, which is a paltry amount considering his annual pay of $45 million.

1. Patrick Mahomes NFL Draft watch

The Kansas City Chiefs acquired Mahomes from the Buffalo Bills in exchange for the tenth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Before the draft (and even before they signed their first contract), other NFL players would wear timepieces that cost tens of thousands of dollars, but Mahomes opted for something more affordable. It looks to be a rather basic fashion chronograph.

2. Rolex Yacht-Master II

Patrick Mahomes’ impressive collection of timepieces has been enhanced with the addition of the Rolex Yacht-Master II 44mm. This watch captures the essence of maritime exploration with its robust and athletic design. With its robust stainless steel construction and regatta chronograph feature, the Yacht-Master II enables sailors to accurately time important race starts. The watch’s overall look is enlivened by the eye-catching blue ceramic bezel featuring engraved numerals. Reflecting Mahomes’ active personality both on and off the field, the Yacht-Master II’s bigger 44mm case size makes a bold statement on his wrist.

3. Rolex GMT-Master Batman 12670BLNR

The unique black and blue bezel of this venerable timepiece, which is evocative of the superhero’s color scheme, earned it the title of “Batman.” The robust Oystersteel construction of the GMT-Master Batman blends excellent functionality with a stylish design. Because of its dual-time zone capability, which enables Mahomes to simultaneously watch two different time zones, it is a helpful addition to his nomadic lifestyle.

With a sleek black dial with contrasting white hour markers and hands, the Rolex Yacht-Master 4o is an elegant example of how sportiness and beauty can coexist

This gorgeous watch is the perfect example of how sportiness and beauty can coexist. The Yacht-Master 40 exudes luxury and is fashioned in stunning Everose gold. For optimal legibility, it has a sleek black dial with contrasting white hour markers and hands. This clock’s robust Oyster housing and Triplock crown ensure that it will withstand the rigors of the open sea. When Mahomes is not on the field, the Rolex Yacht-Master 40 – 126655 elevates his wrist and perfectly captures his taste in high-end timepieces.

5. Rolex Daytona Rainbow

Still, the crown jewel—a watch that exudes comedy and elegance—is without a doubt the most recent addition to Mahomes’ already exceptional collection. The Rolex Rainbow Daytona is about to arrive. The striking and expertly fitted rainbow-colored bezel of this amazing clock beautifully contrasts with the black lacquer display. For watch collectors, its exceptional design and limited availability make it an extremely sought-after item. With the Rainbow Daytona, Mahomes has really upped his watch line and captured the spirit of exclusivity and elegance.

6. Two-tone Rolex Daytona

Since becoming the starting quarterback for the Chiefs and collecting awards as an exceptional player, Mahomes has been spotted sporting stunning timepieces, many of which are from the renowned Rolex brand. 16523, the two-tone Rolex Daytona, was a noteworthy early sighting. This model is distinguished from previous versions, including the two-tone Daytona Ref. 116503, by its solid gold subdial rings as opposed to their line-style counterparts. It is believed to be the Zenith Daytona. Even though the black dial, two-tone Rolex Daytona Ref. 16523 has been discontinued, it can still get up to $21,000 on the secondary market due to its strong demand.

7. Rolex Day-Date Platinum 228396

In addition to his amazing watch, Mahomes looked stunning in a baby blue suit when he arrived at State Farm Stadium in Arizona ahead of the big game. He was wearing the legendary Rolex Day-Date Ref. 228396TBR-0030, a platinum masterpiece featuring a stunning baby blue dial and a diamond-set bezel. It is called a “price on request” piece since Rolex does not formally disclose the selling price of this model. At present, it is being sold for approximately $150,000 on the secondary market. Mahomes’ enormous $503 million contract is a clear indication of the luxury he has earned.

8. Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra

Patrick Mahomes possesses an exceptional assortment of Rolex watches in addition to a stunning Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Co-Axial Chronometer GMT 43mm. This exceptional watch strikes the perfect mix of sportiness and refinement. The Aqua Terra is a well-constructed timepiece featuring a sleek blue dial reminiscent of the ocean’s depths and a stainless steel housing.

The GMT feature makes it simple for Mahomes to keep track of various time zones, which makes it a perfect partner for his nomadic existence. The accuracy and dependability of the Co-Axial Chronometer movement are guaranteed. With its flexible design and superb performance, the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m Co-Axial Chronometer GMT 43mm is a tribute to Mahomes’ remarkable taste and appreciation for horological knowledge.

9. Cartier Santos

At the Met Gala, Patrick Mahomes, who is well-known for his passion for Rolex watches, stunned onlookers by donning a skeletonized replica of Cartier’s fabled Santos watch. One of Cartier’s most well-known designs, the Santos, skillfully blends sophistication and modernity. Its exposed movement and odd square form provide for a captivating visual experience. Accompanied by his spouse Brittany Matthews, Mahomes showcased his impeccable taste by choosing this unique and striking rendition of the Santos. This audacious choice demonstrates his resolve to adopt novel styles and push the boundaries of fashion—even when it comes to high-end watches.

Patrick Mahomes’ impressive watch collection not only reflects his discerning taste but also embodies the artistry and precision of luxury Swiss craftsmanship. With iconic pieces from Rolex, Omega, and Cartier, each watch tells a story of innovation and timeless style. Mahomes’ collection is a testament to his appreciation for excellence in horology.

The world is slowly returning to normal following the Covid-19 pandemic, with many events slated for last year now making a highly anticipated return this summer. One such event that many are buzzing about this week is the 2020 UEFA European Championship, which was originally scheduled to take place June 12th – July 12th of last year and will instead make its triumphant return June 11th – July 11th of 2021. Despite being delayed a full year due to the pandemic, the soccer tournament will keep the name UEFA Euro 2020.

The tournament will take place in 11 cities associated with the UEFA (Union of European Football Association), including Munich, Amsterdam, Saint Petersburg, London, and Rome (just to name a few). And while attendance will be limited in accordance with social distancing requirements, fans will still be allowed to attend. Some of the biggest names in soccer will be among those participating in the tournament and if you’re at all familiar with the sport, you might also know that they boast some seriously awe-inspiring watch collections. To celebrate the return of UEFA Euro 2020, let’s take a closer look at what Rolex watches those soccer stars are sporting on their wrists.

Rolex Yacht-Master

Our list kicks off with arguably one of the most impressive watch collections in soccer. With a reported net worth of $500 million, it comes as no surprise that Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo has a remarkable watch collection. He’s been known to indulge in more extravagant watches, such as the Franck Muller 7008 T INV C INV R set with hundreds of diamonds and rubies that some speculate will set you back anywhere between $1.5 – $2 million. His watch box is also home to an iced-out Jacob & Co. Grand Baguette Diamond watch ref. 330.800.30.BD.BD.1BD decorated with 761 diamonds that is worth around $1 million.

However, Ronaldo’s collection isn’t entirely out of reach for most collectors. While he does boast a rather opulent diamond-encrusted GMT-Master II “Ice” ref. 116769TBR dubbed the most expensive Rolex and a sapphire and ruby GMT-Master II ref. 116758SARU, the soccer star also owns numerous Rolex wristwatches that will appeal to the everyday watch enthusiast. Among the most notable are the yellow gold Yacht-Master II ref. 116688, white gold and platinum Yacht-Master II ref. 116689, yellow gold Sky-Dweller ref. 326938, and the Cosmograph Daytona in both stainless steel (ref. 116520) and 18k yellow gold (ref. 116528).

Rolex Submariner 116618LB – Sergio Ramos, Spain

Rolex Submariner

Spanish soccer star and Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is one of the top players in the world. While it has since been confirmed that he will be leaving the team on June 30th and will be left off Spain’s roster for Euro 2020 following an injury-plagued season, his luxury watch collection is still worth highlighting, with brands such as Patek Philippe, IWC, Bulgari, and Rolex taking up space in his impressive timepiece collection.

Ramos was recently spotted wearing a White Rolesor Datejust II ref. 116334 with a black dial. The watch has since been discontinued (along with all Datejust II models) but can still be found on the pre-owned market for around $10k. Sergio Ramos’ Rolex collection also includes the coveted Everose Yacht-Master 126655 on an Oysterflex bracelet that retails for $27,300 and a handsome yellow gold Submariner 116618LB with a blue dial and bezel, which is available on the secondary market for around $40k.

Rolex Sky-Dweller 326938 – David Alaba, Austria

Rolex Sky-Dweller

David Alaba currently plays for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the Austria national team. He will join the Austria squad as the team vies the championship title during UEFA Euro 2020. His most recent contract earned him over $14 million/year for the next five years, giving the star soccer player more than enough cash to spend on some seriously enviable luxury watches.

One particular timepiece that caught our eye is Alaba’s yellow gold Rolex Sky-Dweller ref. 326938, which retails for an impressive $46,650. The solid gold watch is just as impressive as Alaba’s soccer career, boasting a 42mm case and matching bracelet in 18k yellow gold and Rolex’s most complex movement yet – the Caliber 9001, which offers both an annual calendar complication and GMT functionality.

Rolex Submariner 116610LV – Karim Benzema, France

Benzema is worth around $70 million and has an impressive luxury watch collection to match, including a number of models from Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and (naturally) Rolex.

Even the most experienced watch collectors will be impressed by his impressive Rolex lineup, which includes the cult favorite white gold Submariner with a blue dial and ceramic bezel – aka the “Smurf” (reference 116619). My wrist is 7.5" and it sits on there like a dream. The OF is so soft and supple it feels like a velvet glove on the wrist. Those little wings underneath allowing the skin to breathe has a very positive effect on the way the watch wears. The case is what I think is a perfect size; really couldn't find a fault in it. The smooth bezel action is a nice change from the common clicks from subs and other divers. It feels like a cross between the sub and gmt bezel rotation if you're curious. In my perfect situation it would have a full gold bracelet and one can dream.

I thought about consolidating part of my collection to acquire it soon except I have so many great watches that I do not want to part with them. Part of me thinks I'd wear this the majority of the time so why keep the others in that case anyway? I suppose I still need to figure it out. If my number comes up at the AD I'll pick it up and figure out what to do after that. For now I will take my time and let it unfold the way it will.
