What is the QHYC?  QHYC is a private not for profit organization.  There are no paid officers and QHYC is run 100% by volunteers.  It is a social club encouraging recreational boating, promoting boating safety, and sharing of experiences on and around the water.  We operate on a fiscal year Apr 1 through March 31.

What are the officer and volunteer positions?

Commodore-  Preside all meetings of the board, host Annual Meeting, lead all activities and events, liaise with outside organizations, establish and manage budget, authorize communications to members, review and approve all memberships. Position rotates out.

Vice Commodore-   Exercise powers of the Commodore in his absence, assist the Commodore, host specific events and activities assigned by the Commodore, and perform other duties assigned by the Board or Commodore.  Position anticipated rotating to Commodore

Secretary – Maintain and have custody of all corporate records except financial records, record meeting records, authenticate records of the Corporation, prepare mailings and notices to members, maintain the website, and perform other duties prescribed by the board or Commodore. Position anticipated rotating to Vice Commodore.

Treasurer – Care of all funds, financial records, collections, and deposits, provide the board with quarterly updates against budget, event revenue vs expenses.  Position may stay multiple years.

The bridge also appoints a number of volunteer positions:

Fleet Captain – Organize Event Hospitality especially at away from QH events.  Leads member volunteers event set up and take down.  Ensure Beverage requirements including inventory, ice.  Solicit member help as needed.

Social Media Coordinator – Administers our FaceBook and Instagram accounts.

Web Coordinator – Administers the QHYC’s web site, including the SailQH site.

First Mates Coordinator – we have a very active First Mates (ladies) group.

Sailing Coordinator – runs the Sail Queens Harbour youth and adult programs.

What are QHYC membership Requirements? 

Full Yacht Club members/Voting members .

QHYC is a private Yacht Club membership. Your family eligibility is based upon being a Queen’s Harbour Resident, Leasing a Boat Slip at the QH Marina, or by Membership at the Queen’s Harbour Yacht and Country (QHY&CC). With over 200 members, we’re sure you will create lasting memories.

Youth Sailing Membership is open to all area youth.

Do I need to own a boat?  No.  You do not need to be a boat owner.  We have over 100 families in QHYC.  Approximately 60% own boats.  QHYC is a social club with plenty of action for everyone.  Membership includes access to our fleet of Bauer and Optimist sailboats.

Do I need to attend meetings?  We host an annual Business Meeting once per year to vote in the new slate of officers.  Votes can be submitted by proxy.  We need a 25% membership attendance/proxy to validate.

Where can I find a member roster?  Member rosters are updated twice annually and distributed to all members in good standing.  If you are a member in good standing you can email [email protected] and request a copy at any time.  The membership roster is for use of QHYC members only.  Please do not distribute.

Is QHYC associated with the POA or Country Club?  No.  QHYC is a separate and unique organization.  That said, a significant majority of our members are also POA members (i.e. property owners of QH).  66% of QHYC members have also joined the country club

Can I bring friends to events?  Yes.  We encourage guests.  Member’s guests that fit within QHYC eligibility requirements (e.g. are residents of Queens Harbour or members of the Country Club) are welcome for their first two events.  To attend a third event, they will have to join our club.  Member’s guests that do not fit within QHYC eligibility requirements can visit as invited (e.g. out of town family and friends).

What is a trip Captain?  Trip Captain is a volunteer assigned by the board to host a travelling event. A Trip Captain might coordinate travel information, tides, accommodations, meals, and excursions.  The Trip Captain works closely with the Fleet Captain.  Trip Captain volunteers should notify a Board member.

How are annual dues allocated?  The annual dues are used to subsidize the many events, including food, beverages and live entertainment as well as fees associated with liability insurance, and web presence.

Queen Mary channels Audrey Hepburn in tailored skirt and most enormous hat

King frederik and his wife were spotted on the final day of their summer tour  .

Queen Mary went out with a bang on Thursday as she rounded off her summer tour with King Frederik in style.

The Australian-born Danish royal, 52, was seen arriving in Vejle where she exuded vintage glamour in a look Audrey Hepburn would have been proud of.

Mary wore a navy cropped jacket from Prada with a printed blouse from Proenza Schouler. The chiffon number was teamed with the most gorgeous 1950s-style A-line skirt with a tapered waistline from Baum und Pferdgarten.

The jacquard skirt was teamed with classic accessories to round off her chic look. King Frederik's wife wore the 'Ascent 85 Pink Leather Pumps' from Gianvito Rossi and carried the 'Small Whitney Bag' from Max Mara - two staple pieces from this summer tour.

The star of the show was her enormous navy blue hat which elevated the outfit to the next level. To cater for this, she wore her hair down - styled in bouncy waves.

Later in the day, Mary made a few adjustments to her look to adapt to the stormy weather. She swapped out her designer heels for designer flats - the 'Rope And White Canvas Cap Toe Ballet Flats from Prada, to be exact. She also slipped a Harris Wharf trench coat on for extra warmth and protection from the rain.

During the visit, the royal couple visited Kong Gaurs Gård, a daycare centre, before stopping off at one of Vejle's most successful companies, Welcon A/S, which manufactures steel components and turn-key solutions.

As has been the routine on the summer tour, the royals hosted an evening reception where the queen changed into an elegant dress.

For day four, Mary debuted the 'Claudia Twisted-Neck Floral Midi Dress' from Saloni. The white garment featured a beautiful floral design with long sleeves and a tapered waist. 

The royal wore her loose curls in a side part with a section of hair twisted behind one ear to frame her face effortlessly. 

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden may have inspired her Danish counterpart as she wore the exact dress when on the Royal Yacht Dannebrog during Mary and Frederik's two-day official state visit to Sweden in May.

Translated into English, the royal pair penned: "Thank you Bornholm and mrø, Assens and Vejle for making our first summer trip one we will never forget.

Everywhere we have been welcomed in the most festive way from roadside, windows and balconies, on harbour fronts, town squares and town halls. 

"Our country has a lot to offer and we have enjoyed experiencing culture and nature, communities and professional skills on our own," they continued.

Government of Canada investment supports tourism and local businesses

Atlantic Canada’s small towns and rural areas are vibrant places bustling with economic, social and cultural activity. The Government of Canada is investing to help communities in the Lunenburg area thrive, building long-term prosperity.

Improving visitor experiences, and business opportunities  Today, the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for ACOA, announced total contributions of nearly $2.2 million for three community organizations, a municipality and a local food producer in Nova Scotia’s South Shore.

The funding will help the Lunenburg Yacht Club (LYC), the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society, the Town of Mahone Bay, South Shore Opportunities Incorporated and Terra Beata Farms to host sporting and cultural events, upgrade tourism infrastructure, purchase new automated equipment and deliver programming to support entrepreneurs and growing businesses, thus increasing visitation to the Lunenburg area and setting the stage for growth.

Quick facts

In the tenth year of its Sail Able program, Lunenburg Yacht Club will host this year's Mobility Cup for the first time. Previously hosted in Nova Scotia by Halifax and North Sydney Clubs, The Mobility Cup is an annual sailing regatta for differently abled sailors, attracting athletes this year from across Canada and the U.S. as far away as California and Hawaii. All participants compete in the Martin 16, a specially modified keel boat designed in Canada for sailors living with disabilities.

The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society , incorporated in 1986, produces the annual Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival and stages 20 to 25 concerts a year, as well as a film series and other events. Five years ago, it purchased by the Lunenburg Opera House , which was built in 1908 by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF). Over the years it was used for vaudeville, as a cinema, and a recording studio, but has fallen into disrepair and is in need of upgrades and modernization. 

Mahone Bay is a small coastal community about a one-hour drive from Halifax. It offers a rich mix of heritage, culture and natural beauty and is famed for three churches casting their reflection on the water. The Town comprises 3.12 square kilometers and has a population of 1,016 residents (2021 Census).

South Shore Opportunities Incorporated is one of 41 Community Business Development Corporations (CBDCs) delivering the national Community Futures (CF) program in rural Atlantic Canada. Each CBDC plays an important role in strengthening the ability of rural communities to diversify their economic base to foster long-term prosperity and sustainability.

Founded in 1998 by David and Evelyn Ernst, Terra Beata has a 12-acre cranberry farm on Heckmans Island which produces juice, dried fruit and cooked products sold at grocery stores across Canada. It also has a 50-acre farm in Aylesford, and a 12 acre farm in Tremont, NS.

In 2018, Terra Beata opened a facility in Sackville, NB to receive, clean and freeze fresh cranberries from its farms plus about 15 other farms in Atlantic Canada, for a total of over 5 million pounds of fruit per year. Frozen berries packed in Sackville travel to industrial customers around the world.

The funding announced today is provided through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund , Community Futures program and Regional Economic Growth through Innovation program.
