History of Nelson

Established initially as a family business in the 1960s, Nelson has etched its name in the annals of boat building industry in the United Kingdom. The company was started in the Isle of Wight, an island notorious for the choppy waters of The Solent and the English Channel. The founder, Peter Nelson, who was originally an engineer, decided to venture into the boat building industry with safety and performance in mind. His expertise, coupled with that of Naval Architect, Arthur Mursell, led to the production of the first-ever Nelson boat, a sturdy sea boat designed for the local fishermen who frequently contended with unforgiving sea conditions.

Over the years, the Nelson brand has remained a stalwart of trust and quality for boat enthusiasts across the globe. The company has overseen a continuous evolution of designs and models, ensuring their boats always meet the needs and tastes of customers. Nelson's reputation has also attracted the commercial and military markets. Their boats are home to many Maritime Agencies, Police Forces, and Harbor Authorities across Europe.

DALE 28 DESIGN OVERVIEW

The new DALE 28 was conceived to meet the needs of both new as well as long standing DALE clients who wanted to downsize whilst retaining the sea keeping and quality to which they were accustomed. A large socialising space in the wheelhouse and cockpit area as well as a cabin for two plus occasional berths for a further two were top of their list.

Putting everything that is special about a DALE into 28 feet was a challenge that we just couldn’t resist.

After achieving the hull design to give the sea-keeping and ease of handling expected of a DALE, our next aim was to use the architecture to create a boat with spacious accommodation for two, the comfort of full standing headroom, a large wheelhouse and cockpit for total enjoyment of cruising, living on board and socialising. We build each boat bespoke for you and just like any other DALE, there is a sense of discreet luxury and attention to detail. The Nelson inspired timeless styling tells others that this is a boat with solidity that is unsurpassed. Already confident that this gem of boat is set to be a winner she guarantees to open up endless possibilities of cruising and exploring. What a joy to helm….light and responsive providing confidence and reassurance in your absolute control. The smooth ride and effortless performance will keep you and your guests happy whilst eating up mile after mile and as your horizons extend and so will too will your memories of new places visited both near and far. Easy to handle but with true sea going credentials, her ability to fulfil the aspirations of even the most experienced was undoubted, demonstrated brilliantly during her sea trials in four metre seas off the Pembrokeshire Coast and our first 28 owners who set off from Pembrokeshire to the Scillies and didn’t return for seven weeks!!

A day cruiser for six or an overnighter for either two or four, she is sure to appeal to those who seek something special. Classically-styled with graceful lines, this genuinely stunning craft offers exceptional performance with more than a sprinkling of creature comforts. Every possible need has been taken into consideration to ensure that the accommodation on board is sufficiently spacious and comfortable. Side decks are wide and reassuring and the cockpit sole flows seamlessly into the wheelhouse for the ultimate experience in indoor-outdoor living. At her first showing at Southampton 2018, customers stepping aboard commented on the spaciousness, the generous accommodation not to mention the ‘gorgeous heads.’

The story continues with further refinements and beautiful interior fit out in solid oak. Clever innovation in interior design makes life on board even more comfortable and flexible. The forward cabin is a true master cabin with twin berths, easily converted to a double berth with a combined seating area, plus an abundance of craftsman built stowage lockers and an incorporated back rest to transform the cabin into a daytime lounge. In addition, adapted from the DALE Classic 45, the wheelhouse helm seat slides forward electrically (optional) at the push of a button for when in port creating a more spacious seating area which converts into an extra double berth.

Bonded flush wheelhouse side and front windows (optional) with their style taken from our new Dale 40 gives a sleek and more modern finish to complement the classic style. With the similarity in hull shape to the DALE 23 but with softer sections and then add six tons of boat, this is a serious craft to be considered by those looking for a fun cruising boat with the DALE credentials.
