Jump to Lagoon 39 Catamarans For Sale

The Lagoon 39 marked the next generation for Lagoon catamarans. With a significant change to the rig and sail plan moving aft, the Lagoon 39 features a tall high aspect ration rig with full battened square top mainsail and self tacking headsail. Marry this to the all-new Code 0 sail with big overlap and ability to drive up to 65+/- degrees and you have one fantastic performing modern cruising cat.

The Lagoon 39 is an evolution in design with the stylish “visor” look, all black wrap around windows, and a look of forward motion even sitting at the dock. Hull features vertical beveled bows, a beveled deck off the hull and a chine on each of the outboard aft hulls. The patented gull wing underbody makes for less deck slap and a movement of water away from the craft. The 39 is the predecessor to the Lagoon 40 model. Both models share the same dimensions with only subtle changes. Both boats share the same rig design and living spaces.

lagoon catamaran 39

The precise moment I came to realize that the new Lagoon 39 was a special entry-level cruising catamaran occurred last February on a windy, 20-knot morning in a significant Atlantic Ocean seaway off the coast of Florida. As we clawed upwind in short, 4- to 6-foot waves in the pumping easterly, I made my way forward to check out the view from the windward bow-pulpit seat. And what I saw was a revelation, especially considering that my perch was aboard a sub-40-foot vessel.

The fine entries of the twin bows sliced through the chop efficiently and with noticeable buoyancy. There was no slamming on the bridgedeck whatsoever. Most surprisingly, as I was prepared for a good dousing, was that with the exception of an odd splash of droplets, I remained completely dry.

Making my way aft, I soon discovered that not only was the ride impressive but so too were the numbers. Hard on the wind, which fluctuated between 18 and 22 knots, and under the self-tacking jib and the square-topped main with a single reef in, we registered 6.1 to 6.4 knots. Cracked off to a close reach, the speedo shot above 7 knots, and eventually settled at 7.5 as we leveled away to a beam reach. As we fell off even more, with the wind on the aft quarter, the speed climbed to 8 knots. What’s more, with all the changes in heading and sail trim, the motion remained fairly smooth and appropriately balanced. It occurred to me that this was something I could get used to.

lagoon catamaran 39

Down below, the innovative layout also received favorable marks. I’ve long admired cats that reserved the entire starboard hull for an owners suite with a dedicated stateroom that can be closed off for privacy from the central saloon via a sliding door and that includes a king-size double berth aft, a midship desk/vanity, and a large en suite head and separate shower stall forward.

On the Lagoon 39, the builders took this very good, well-executed idea and doubled down on it: The port hull and stateroom is the mirror image of the starboard cabin. At face value, it doesn’t seem revolutionary, but it speaks to the way many owners actually use their boats, and it’s a smart, cool use of space. (And, of course, more traditional three- and four-cabin accommodation plans are also available.)

Yet thoughtful design and efficient systems and features are themes carried out over the entire Lagoon 39, from the top of the double-spreader fractional rig—which is located farther aft than usual, to maximize power and minimize pitching—to the tips of the twin mini-keels that promote stability and lateral resistance.

In between are all sorts of nifty items, including a generous cockpit, a raised helm station, centralized sail controls, and a very nice main saloon, which includes a fine, forward-facing navigation station, a well-laid-out galley, and a generous dining table around which to socialize.

How Lagoon managed all this in less than 40 feet may not be a miracle, but it’s close.

based on experience. I will get L39 in September, and would be interested in hearing comments and from others. Mine will be #90, so there should be already a lot of first-hand experience.

Or does the silence indicate that it is a perfect ?

39. I've been looking over catamaran's the last week or so. I think the 2 master premiere version is a perfect layout for a singleton, or a retired couple.

One concern I have is the exposure of the position, and the height above the , unlike the totally unaffordable which has a protected . The is a good baseline for ocean spec IMHO.

EDIT: Id like In-mast which also isn't available in the .

came out in 2009 the thread exploded with new owners chatting up options and customizations. The Lagoon 39? Nary a peep from new owners.

I don't think it's because the Lagoon 39 is undesirable. I run past a new one on my running several times a week and marvel at its beauty. The only thing I don't get about the boat is where it fits in Lagoon's lineup. It's waterline is longer than the 400 but only has a slightly larger beam than the 380. Also, when you it out with common options it is about the same as the 400S2. So, I'm thinking it may be an either/or decision between the 39 and the 400S2.

39 (nice outside) and Maverick 400 (nice but odd) but can't beat the of the Lagoon.

One small word of , set aside even more cash to outfit the boat once you've actually taken possession. Boat is decent out of the box but additional , , , spares, etc. add up. One example, we added additional lines & to allow auto-tacking the so you can hove-to from the helm.

From what I've heard the smaller Lagoons had quality issues in the past but for whatever reason those days appear to be over.

Good luck!

Do you know of Lagoon 39 owner's sites we can benefit from?
25-05-2014, 02:58

I had been looking for a for a few years, had test and charters, considered used L400 and L440, but abandoned them due to the problem of .

And then L39 came: It felt immediately right, the size is good for two people, we were to it just at the first sight. We had a test sail that confirmed what others have said: It is an incredibly rigid boat.

The process becomes easier after realising that buying a Lagoon is like buying a car: You talk to the dealer and buy the boat from him. The factory offers some options that they know will , but all other customisation is the reponsibility of the buyer, and has to take place after the . This is OK for me, I only hope that Lagoon gives proper incentives to their dealers to take care of the buyers, also after the . Even if the buyer is in another country or continent, when the unavoidable guarantee issues will come up.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I have realised that the final bill will go up, I also plan to add several things after the delivery (solar , , ...).

I am a bit concerned about the self-tacking in heavier conditions, and have been thinking of adding rails to the rooftop to give the opportunity for conventional jib handling. This would also allow heaving-to. I did not understand how you arranged heaving-to from the helm, with blocks and lines to the stoppers?

(I would also be interested in using these rails for the of a strom jib, if it could be rigged somehow?)

Best Luau in California!

It is the best Luau I have attended in California. It made me feel as if I were actually in Hawaii. The dancers were highly skilled, professional, and beautiful, their whole program was outstanding. The food was abundant. They had a good variety of salads, entrees, and desserts. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole luau, the cost is well worth an evening of good food and great entertainment. I would love to return again next year.

Highly Recommend Private Luau Experience

I coordinated with the Catamaran to host a private luau and buffet for my company. We got a lot of positive feedback about the event from our guests at the end of the night - many of them were hoping we could do it again next year! I would highly recommend the Catamaran's sunset luau for large, private gatherings.

Audience Participation at the Luau!

The musicians were great, and the dancers' costumes were fantastic. The fire dancer was amazing. A very enjoyable evening of food and entertainment. One complimentary Mai Tai and Lei upon entry. The luau experience was worth it. Other folks at our table were returning because they really enjoyed their experience last year. The luau also has audience participation, which is great for young and old.

This property is beautiful

My granddaughter and I enjoyed the waterfall, fish, ducks, and parrots. The pool and hot tub were nice and open at night when we wanted to relax. We did the VIP luau and really enjoyed it. The food was amazing, the real flower leis were gorgeous, and the show was entertaining. We were also treated to a Mai Tai drink in a souvenir cup and a non-alcohol drink in a pineapple cup for my granddaughter. We made some special memories together.

Assemble your students at the seating area near the gazebo. It is best to have the students sit down and go over the entire field experience, so they can anticipate what they will be doing.   It would be useful to describe the entire Stivers Lagoon Nature area.   Use the materials provided in the Stivers Lagoon section to provide a summary for your group.

From the seating area go directly to the raised beds and discuss the different plants that may be present.   Remember that not all plants will be there, depending on the time of the year.     Before you start the trip go over the difference between poison oak and the other vines.   You may want to use the worksheet, “Vines of Stivers Lagoon.”

Walk up to the gazebo and face Paseo Padre Parkway.   Point out to students that the Hayward fault runs near Paseo Padre and cuts under Lake Elizabeth.   The fault has allowed water to percolate upward to create a depression full of water.

Turn toward the marsh and explain that this area has been untouched.   It is one of the few areas of Fremont that reflects the area as it was when the Ohlone Indians roamed the area.

Discuss with students that marshlands are very productive as a food source and important to local inhabitants.   Marshlands also help clean water as it flows through this area.   Preservation of areas like this are not only a historical glimpse, but a valuable part of the entire ecosystem.

  2. Boat Review: Lagoon 39

It looks like a Lagoon. It's built like a Lagoon. But this 39-footer is a new breed of catamaran. Specifically, although naval architects Marc Van Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot Prévost of VPLP Design have kept the signature vertical windows and overall appearance of previous Lagoon models, they made significant changes to the rig and hulls to improve sailing performance.
