The present day Kadey-Krogen trawler yachts come from a 40-year heritage. With more then 600 yachts built today, allow me to open the door to their world of innovative gems. The company principals —Tucker West of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, followed by Larry Polster from Annapolis, Maryland along with Tom Button right here in Stuart, Florida hold these beauties close to their hearts all being life-long boaters and experts in their fields. From 1991 on, the Krogan has been built at a private shipyard in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Starting with her latest launches and working our way back to the beginning, we first come to an impressive line-up of what the company has to offer at present. In the Raised Pilothouse category, you’ll have a KROGEN 44' AE, or the Krogen 48' AE, Krogen 52’, Krogen 58' EB, and finally the KROGEN 70’. In the Expedition class, you’ll be impressed by the Krogen 55’ and, finally, in the Open style, the Krogen 50' will fit the bill here.

In 2018 Krogen released their 50’ Open, which was a exciting shift from any previous Kadey-Krogen models. She holds onto their tried-and-true hull displacement hull form and traditional exterior lines, but she turns down a slightly different road with, what is a new style for Krogen —an open and continually flowing main deck layout. Cruising will be a pleasure in this lovely addition to the line-up and most welcome in any waters, where fun is to be had!

A few years prior, in 2016 Krogen’s 58' EB (Extended Bridge), drew attention as she was quite successful in obtaining new owner’s for these true blue water yachts! Offering lots of outdoor space, you’ll be sure to enjoy eating many meals in this area and inviting 7 additional friends to fit comfortably at her table with ample room for caviar, lobster tails and a big pitcher of Bloody Mary’s!

It was in 2012 that a 44’ AE (Advanced Ergonomics) model hit the high seas with it’s transoceanic hull. Boasting of 25% greater fuel efficiency than other trawlers with a comfortable layout for either cruising or even living aboard, this design broke all the molds in technology and design.

Krogen’s 48' AE (Advanced Ergonomics) was built a year before the 44 footer and took it’s customer’s suggestions seriously to create the 48 AE to provide a user-friendly boat with advanced styling.

As we keep, reversing in time, we stop in 2010 to see the Krogen 52’ popping out. This lovely addition, offered it’s owners a raised pilothouse and ample living areas. She was constructed with entirely new tooling to give it a fresh look.

2008 was an exciting year as the Krogen 55' Expedition had it’s first showing to all and what accolades it received as she provided 25% more interior room than her peers of the same size/type. A true twin-engine expedition capable to take you across serious waters in various ports, this 55 was known for it’s gorgeous looks too.

The Krogen 44 footer, was set apart from the others and birthed in 2004. She stood tall and showed how capable she could be with her state-of-the-art technology.

In 2000, Krogen’s 58 footer was all the rage in her size range. A comfortable and stately model, she was known by all as being quite cable in any type of seas! So well known that 20 were build from 2000-2013!

The 90’s were a busy time, as well, for this company, and in1997, a 39 foot Krogan was released as the ideal coastal cruiser. Many grabbed their favorite couple and their partner and set out to enjoy exotic ocean trips and reported back to Krogan with applause and the desire for another boat or turned their friends onto joining them in boater’s paradise! From 1997—2014 they built 50 of these voyage makers and were spotted in many ports!

1995 was the year of the Krogen 48' North Sea and was the pick of all experienced mariners. She was most capable of trans-Atlantic crossings and was an ideal liveaboard. This model allowed Krogan to pump out 49 from 1995—2010.

The Krogen Whaleback 48’ was built in 1993 and offered many cruise alternatives, and was a comfortable live aboard with lots of storage. The Whaleback was another favorite. 30 were built from 1992—2005.

Back to the year 1988, and Krogen built a 54’ bluewater vessel. For the serious boater it proved Krogen was quite capable on even the rough seas and was known worldwide. She shone with her stunning pilothouse and was a winner in the comfort category as well. 8 of these ocean loves were built during the years of 1987—1991.

As we continue to go back in time, and prove that Krogan has stood the test of time in more ways then one, let’s flip the calendar to 1984 where you would have seen the Krogen Manatee 36’. This coastal cruiser offered more accommodations and amenities than other trawlers in her size range and, at present, continues to do the same! There were an impressive 99 of these popular models built from 1984—1991.

When you lived in the year 1981, as a boater, you were quite familiar with the Krogen Cutter 38’. At this time, this sailboat was designed to handle the shallow Caribbean waters and the blue water areas too! They were busy with this sweetie, with 85 being built from 1984—1991.

And at long last, if we step into 1977, you will truly be awestruck to learn that their Krogen 42’ broke the records with 206 being produced from 1976-1998!! This legend began the story that has led us to today where Kadey-Krogan yachts hold their own in innovative designs, superb cruising and top-notch quality.

The highlight of Krogen Cruisers membership is the opportunity to attend our annual Fall Chesapeake Rendezvous in Solomons, Maryland. The Rendezvous is 4 days of expert presentations, roundtable discussions and good times with friends. Plus the "Krogen Krawl" gives you the opportunity to view many Krogens!

History of Krogen Cruisers

Founded as an informal organization, members share a common interest in cruising and love for their Krogen vessels. Although we are not affiliated with Kadey-Krogen Yachts, we enjoy a strong relationship with them to enhance the Krogen ownership experience.

The group started in the summer of 1989 at the initiation of Grant and Astaar Breining. I Annapolis harbor aboard their Krogen 42, Carinya, they noticed a handful of other Krogen boats in the harbor. One evening they decided to meet these fellow Krogen 42 owners and invite them to a gathering. The seven owners and their boats constituted the origin of the Krogen Cruisers and began the tradition of the Krogen Rendezvous.

In those early days the focus was strictly social, the organization was informal,  and membership grew by word of mouth. From the start the Cruisers had much to share and along with the annual rendezvous, they started a newsletter. Much as we do today they enjoyed both the informal camaraderie of other owners along with the valuable sharing of experience.

As interest in the group increased, the membership expanded beyond boaters in the Chesapeake and broadened to include Krogen vessels of every size and design. Although the majority of our members today reside coast to coast in North America we have owners in Europe, South America and the Far East. “At Home on Any Sea” you can expect to find one of about 250 members of the Krogen Cruiser fleet just about anywhere you travel. Thanks to our group of Founders, you will easily recognize a fellow member of the Krogen Cruisers by our colorful burgee displaying a Krogen 42 cruising in front of the setting sun.

In 2008, the group was formally organized as a tax exempts obtained 501(C)(7) corporation, created Bylaws , and elected a Board of Directors . Our traditions have grown along with our membership. While the Chesapeake Rendezvous has been going strong for over 30 years, similar get togethers take place on the West Coast of Florida, the Pacific Northwest and in New England. Even when winter dry-docks some of us, the original “Hard Aground” parties have made way for the traditions of the Krogen Super Bowl parties and the weekly Krogen breakfast in Stuart, FL and The Keys. We now have Harbor Hosts in many ports, members with local knowledge to assist cruisers. To be sure, you are never far from a Krogen gathering and often a simple word-of-mouth or email invitation creates a spontaneous rendezvous.

Krogen history began in 1976 when marine engineer Arthur Kadey approached naval architect James Krogen to design a 42-foot displacement trawler yacht for his personal use.

Kadey had the boat built in Taiwan, and by 1978 the two had teamed up to form Kadey-Krogen Yachts with the idea of building and marketing the boat in the US. The Krogen 42 Trawler became a landmark design, remaining in production until 1998, some 203 boats later.

During the 1980s Krogen introduced several new models, the most notable being the popular Manatee 36.

In 2006, company ownership was acquired by John Gear, Larry Polster, and Tom Button. Kadey-Krogen yachta are built at Asia Harbor Yacht Builders in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Kadey-Krogen is headquartered in Stuart, FL,, with regional offices in Annapolis and Seattle. The company markets its boats through select regional offices.

The Summit 62 Combines Speed and Comfort in a Performance Yacht

There’s always more to a new yacht model than just a leap up in size, and the Summit 62 MY is no exception. This yacht could wisely be considered an exponential take on the Summit 54 MY, with more than just deck space sized up to fill out the hull measuring 68 feet 7 inches LOA with an 18-foot 2-inch beam.

Michael Peters designed a performance planing hull that will offer the kind of volume an experienced owner-operator seeks, and the design team envisioned a creative way to work all of Summit’s established principles into a singular layout, including a generous aft deck that connects seamlessly with the galley through large sliding glass doors.

The expansive glass stretches forward along both sides and connects with the windshield at the helm, bathing the entire space in natural light and surrounding family and friends with the best available views.

The flybridge creates a whole new angle on cruising with a high vantage point and ample seating beneath a robust hardtop. A large tender stows on chocks athwartships, opening up explorations when on the hook or a mooring.

Likewise the foredeck has a spacious sunpad with an available foldaway Bimini. Wide walkable side decks make it easy to move fore and aft.

Belowdecks, a three-stateroom layout lets everyone spread out, with private heads for each space, including separate showers. The staterooms all will be finished to the comfort level one has come to expect from Kadey-Krogen, with plenty of stowage, thoughtful touches in the owner’s suite, like a desk or dressing table, and a settee to help make any cruise into a true getaway.

Design and Engineering of the Summit 62

Many people don’t think of a planing hull in a cruising yacht of this size and volume, but it is the most efficient way to go faster. Design firm Michael Peters Yacht Design takes care to design the hull with attention to weight and balance. When a design works properly, the hull is on the surface of the water, less of the hull actually touches the water, so there’s less friction to overcome with horsepower and fuel burn.

Our buyers expect smart use of interior space with plenty of stowage, a fine interior finish, and robust construction in a yacht equipped to cruise.

 From the fine entry to the wineglass transom, Kadey-Krogen’s Pure Full Displacement hull design uses full end-to-end symmetry to provide a softer ride with less pounding, better tracking in a following sea, and a safer and more comfortable ride.
